Are you guys hiring too? >> Hiring? >> Yeah. >> Nobody's hiring. >> Nobody's hiring for cops. >> I want to be a cop. >> No, I've seen you before. >> Mhm. >> I've seen you before. >> I've seen you before, too. Spread your feet. Place the car. >> Using the back side of my hand. >> What's that? >> Using the back side of my hand. Oh god. >> You have any weapons on you? >> No. No. Face the car. >> I'm sorry. I didn't know. He has I was just >> Don't look at him. Look right here. Right here. >> I'm sorry. >> Anything in your shoe? >> No. You can take it off if you need to. >> Go ahead. Slide it off. >> Excuse me. >> Slide it off. All right. So, what happened? I guess I heard a door open. So, I wake up. I wasn't too sure if I was still dreaming or anything. You know, I'm half asleep. It's 3:00 in the morning. I look over. I guess I see, you know, figure >> in your room >> just right there. Okay. So, >> I was sleeping right there. So I just kind of looked up and you know I figured who it was but I was still half asleep so I thought maybe I was dreaming or something and she walked up and tapped me on the face and yeah I was a little confused and looking around just waking up and before I realized it or said anything I know she was already at the door to his room >> and yeah just heard a whole bunch of commotion. Did she say anything? >> Is she your mom? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Biological mom. >> Mhm. Okay. Did she say anything? >> Uh, wake up maybe and then said something while she was walking out of the room. >> What? She You know what she said? >> Couldn't make it out. >> Okay. >> When deputies entered the home, they found the victim actively restraining the suspect on the floor. A knife was located nearby and multiple individuals, including children inside the home, were present during the incident. >> Yeah, that's about it. >> What do you think her >> room? I don't know. >> I walked in the room and then she's pinned down with a knife in her hand. >> Okay. I mean, you say pinned down, you mean like right here? >> No, in the room. >> In the room. So, she had moved from in there to out here. >> Uh, no. He moved her. >> Okay. All right. Let me get your side of the story. >> Yeah. Um, dude, man, I woke up. She's at the foot of my bed in here, you know, and she's sleeping in the bed and uh my seven-year-old boy's in the bed right next to me. And then at first, she just, oh, what's up with you guys? And next thing you know, bam, I see the knife come out. And I just, you know, reacted and I grabbed the hand with the knife and put her on the ground, was yelling. And then he come in there and I'm like, "Hey, dude, get the knife from her. get the knife from her. >> Mhm. >> You know, and then the kids, you know, are kind of crying, so I drag her out here, pinned her on the ground, and waited for you guys to come. >> Okay. >> So, >> and how was she holding the knife? >> Um, upside down like she's going to stab me with it. >> Okay. Do you think that she was going to? >> Uh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's Yeah. But, and luckily, I reacted the way, you know what I mean? And, >> you know, cuz at first I thought I was dreaming, you And I'm thinking like who oh what are you doing in my house and then bam the knife and I was like oh [ __ ] she got a knife and then I reacted >> which I don't I don't got no cuts I don't think you know I'm not bleeding anywhere I was looking just that I think that's from you know the floor or something but >> and you're okay too? >> Yes sir. >> You're okay? >> 7-year-old's okay? >> Yeah. They're they're in the room like you can see um and I I'm pretty sure I thought my door was locked but got both the boys there sleeping and she come right to the foot of the bed, man. And you know, luckily I >> I'm not sure if it was locked or if it wasn't. >> I'm usually good at locking it. As you see, it's not like the best door. It can be jimmied open. >> And unfortunately, I guess my camera is not on right now, but I do usually have a camera at 247 going on. Okay. Is there a way to get in with it locked? >> No. >> Yeah. I mean, we >> you could jimmy it with a knife fairly easy, unfortunately. >> You said this camera here is not working. >> No, it it's not. I guess it's not charged at the moment. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Later, the victim's account is chilling. He says he woke up to find his ex-wife standing at the foot of his bed holding a knife while their children slept nearby. He managed to stop her and take the weapon, but the danger wasn't over. As deputies begin their investigation, one question remains. How did she get inside? >> All right. So, what happened tonight? >> I wanted to see my boys. >> Okay. >> Mhm. I wanted to see my boys. I haven't seen them in a while. >> Okay. Let's start with the dream cuz I was the one that you spoke with on the phone. >> Yeah. >> Do you What happened with the dream? >> I keep having nightmares. >> Okay. Where were you when you had the dream? >> My apartment. >> Where's your apartment at? >> Norman Beach. >> Norman Beach. Okay. And >> he threatened me once when I was married to him. >> Mhm. that if I ever left him, he was going to go on a suicide rampage. >> Okay. >> Kill us all. Was going to kill us all. >> Okay. >> Get himself. >> Okay. So, let's talk about tonight. >> Okay. >> So, after we got off the phone, what did you do? >> I kicked over a motorcycle that was parked next to me. >> You did what? kicked over a motorcycle that was parked next to me. >> Okay. >> At San Marco because it was just in my way and I was so pissed. And I talked to some black guy across the street cuz I wanted to buy a gun off of him. >> Mhm. >> But he said he didn't have one. >> Mhm. >> So I was like, >> "What would you have done if you got the gun?" >> I would have blew his brains out. >> Okay. >> And not thought twice about it. >> Okay. And then I probably would have shot the girl if she came at me, but if not, I wouldn't have done anything to her. >> Okay. >> So, the uh the black guy didn't sell you the gun. So, what happened next? >> I got in my van. >> Mhm. >> I have time to buy a gun cuz I got all this other crap running through my head. I can't believe my kids. I don't know where my 5-year-old's at. >> Mhm. >> I don't know where my seven-year-old's at. I can't sleep. I haven't slept in four or five days. >> I can't eat. I barely drink. >> Everyone asks me if I'm on drugs. I'm not. >> Okay. >> At least not that I'm aware of. >> Okay. >> I'm a pharmacy tech. >> So, you left Orman and you drove here. What happened? >> So, I came here because I wanted to give my son his birthday gifts. I bought him all kinds of stuff at the mall. >> Mhm. >> Because I was intending to go and eat lunch with them at school, but they wouldn't let me. >> Mhm. >> So, I left because they don't have a mother. He's got sole custody. And in the system at school, they're I don't exist. >> Uh-huh. >> So, I left the school. I was talking to my boys. I wanted to get a hold of them. I've been texting his family, me, I mean, everybody to try to get a hold of my kids and nothing. Nothing. I'm the crazy one. >> Okay. So, what happened when you got here? >> I was like, "Oh, Ricky, are you okay?" Cuz he was sleeping. >> So, you left your car, >> right? >> And >> I went to check on the boys. >> Okay. Was the door unlocked? >> Yes, it was. >> Okay. While the suspect claims the front door was open, the father insists it was locked. That's when something doesn't add up. The knife didn't come from outside. It came from inside the home. She says she just wanted to see her children. But moments later, she tells deputies something that changes everything. >> Yes. Oh god, my hair. It was the door was unlocked. Like he sleeps with the door unlocked. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. And then he tackled me like he's >> No, the front door was unlocked. >> Yeah, the front door. Why? Okay. >> Unlocked. Okay. >> Like he was expecting me to come in. >> Okay. So, once he walked in, what did you do? >> Nothing. I He knew I was going to come in. I know him. He knows me. He's not stupid. He knew it. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, then I grabbed the knife because one time we got into a fight when he bracked me and he claimed that I wanted to kill him when I grabbed the kitchen knife before. >> Okay. >> And I told the cop, "Oh, I was just cutting up pizza." >> Okay. So, the knife came from their kitchen. >> Correct. >> Okay. I came with no weapons. Like I said, I I was going to because my intentions were to blow his head out, you know what I mean? But I some struck a luck. I didn't have a gun that day. You know what I mean? And I had cash on me, too. So, >> all right. So, once you got the knife, what did you do? >> I walked into the room to see what he was doing. He's just laying there. Just laying there. >> No, you shouldn't be here. like all that stupid [ __ ] >> Mhm. >> I was like, "What do you mean I shouldn't be here? I'm here to see my kids." You know, I was seeing You're not on your meds. That's what he tells me. The What do you mean I'm not on my meds? You know what I mean? Why the should I be on my meds? >> Okay. >> Like what? What? You're on drugs? >> So then what happened? >> Nothing. I grabbed the knife and I was going to But he attacked me. >> Okay. >> Threw me on the ground like he was a cop. put my hand behind my back like he was a cop. He's act he's acting like a cop. >> Okay. >> Like a full-blown cop. >> So you're upset you're upset that he stopped you. >> Correct. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Stopped you from what? >> Getting my kids. >> Huh? >> Taking my kids home. >> Okay. Was your was your plan to kill them? >> Seeing my kids. And it was your plan to kill him with a knife? >> No. >> What were you going to do with the knife? >> I don't know. Honestly, I blacked out. >> Honestly, I don't know. >> Okay. >> All right. >> I mean, I grabbed the knife and I was just like, like I said, I remembered like a flashback, you know what I mean? Like when we when we used to argue, I was like, "Oh, this is like it seems it seems like home sweet home." You know what I mean? like I'm going to grab the knife and act like I'm going to go get bay cracked again cuz I knew like I was already like, you know what I mean? I've been through so many rounds. I was like, "Oh, it's the same old [ __ ] I'm getting bay cracked. He's going to throw me on the ground. I'm crazy. Oh my god, I'm running around with a knife." It's so >> Mhm. >> You know what I mean? It's like I said, I was going to scare him, but I already thought of that at light because I didn't have a gun before I got into the driveway. You know what I mean? I was like, I'm just going to scare him. I don't have a gun. >> Okay. >> No. Like I mean what how do I know he doesn't have a gun? How did I know he didn't have one or his girlfriend didn't have one? You get what I'm saying? Like >> wow. You sleep with your door open. You don't have a gun next to you? >> Who the are you? Chuck Norris. You know what I mean? Like damn. >> All right. Well, hold tight for me. Okay. >> Yeah. According to the Flaggler County Sheriff's Office, deputies identified and arrested Melinda at the scene after she unlawfully entered the residence and attempted to stab her ex-husband while he was asleep.
