A school theft investigation quickly turns into something far more serious as officers examine allegations involving stolen credit card information, attempted online purchases, and a juvenile already facing prior theft-related consequences. >> 614 here. >> What's going on? >> Hi. >> Hi. >> This one is Officer Quickley. >> What's going on? >> Um she had stolen my wallet today from my purse at school. >> Okay. >> Um so I don't know This is I'm the assistant principal. >> Okay. >> This is the nurse. I'm um That is the suspect. So I don't know if we write a report. Like I mean she Mom did >> Well, why don't we go in here and have a chat so we're not out here with everybody else? Come on in here. >> So she has um a history now at school of stealing. I've dealt with it mainly in school. Um as much as I possibly can, I'm definitely not an advocate of bringing my students to police department, but like she I've taken her locker at school. She can't dress out in the locker room. She doesn't have a hallway locker. I take her book bag as soon as she comes, and now she's going into um offices, and she stole the nurse's uh wallet today and was trying to make purchases and get into her it looked like ATM account on mine at school. So we definitely need to make a report because she has an extensive history of stealing. >> Even my cards. Previously, my friends' cards. >> Yeah. >> Cards or cards? >> Cards. Credit cards. >> Okay. >> Yes. And ordering all kinds of things. >> I mean, I got the fraud alert. >> Every house she's went to, even in my family, I had to pay money back from things she's has ordered off of their credit cards. I'm still in overtime, but this issue is out of hand. Like with school, it's just it's to the point I'm like, "Yep. Let's make a report." >> Okay. So, are you actually out anything or the fraud alerts all caught it all? >> The the fraud alert caught it all. >> Okay. >> So. >> Uh >> [clears throat] >> how do you find out about the theft? >> Well, she had a uh she had she got the fraud alert and then um I had my tech director run a report and it's all, you know, like on her search history and all of that and they were able to pinpoint the time. So, she got the fraud alert about 1:06. She was in class trying to make the purchases about 12:58. And so, we were able to run a report today, this evening, and look at all of the her search history and all the things that she was attempting to do and it's all um it ties with the story that I got. >> And the stores that gave you the fraud alert on your credit card? >> She's been The principal called me >> Uh-huh. >> at home and I looked I asked her about it first. She denied it, of course. And then I looked and I found it in her backpack. I found her wallet. >> You found her wallet in her backpack? >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. All right. So, you didn't have a clue where it went. >> No. >> So, just the fraud alerts and then so, because you knew you had it at school, you started You had the tech guy start running it to see figuring it was probably still >> Well, she has to dress out in the nurse's office. >> What makes this investigation significant is that officers are no longer relying on suspicion alone. School records, fraud alerts, and the recovery of the victim's wallet reportedly begin aligning into a timeline that investigators can independently verify, transforming the incident from an accusation into a documented criminal complaint. >> This for PE because I took her locker away because we're trying to cut back on her unsupervised time. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> And so then, she had access to your >> Yeah. >> purse in the office cuz she was changing out there. >> Yeah. Yeah. And I I try not to I try to be in my office when she change out, but today I was not. >> Okay. >> So. >> Okay. So, pretty much had a good idea where it went at the time. >> Um we thought that she may have taken it. >> So, that's why you wrote the report. >> report. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> And then, talked to mom and when mom went home, checked her bag and >> Yes. >> voilà. >> Mhm. Okay. >> All righty. So. All right. Well, let me get everybody's information here. Do you have your ID with you? >> I do. >> Do you have yours? >> I don't. >> All right. Yes. Do you have yours, ma'am? >> Yes. >> What's your current address on there? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> She's all She's actually on probation now from after juvenile court and so and so court day which is next month from one of that's my family member where she bought a bunch of stuff and they got to the point I I got tired of paying back. I'm like, "Okay." Well, I did pay back but I I turned her over and she spent 24 hours in juvenile. And she's on probation until court. >> From that >> Yes. And then that's >> [clears throat] >> Well, it looks like I just shot that one in the foot. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, uh what's a good phone number for you? And what's your first name? for anything? >> No. >> Okay. Just don't touch that one either. Middle initial? And this is your name I just wrote down. >> Who died? What's cooking? >> Oh. >> Yeah. What was cooking? >> And what's a good phone number for you, Mom? >> Yes. >> All right. Got that. All right. What's your first name? All right. All right. So, what kind of wallet was it? >> I mean, it's here. >> That's fine. >> Okay. This is a red >> Red wallet? >> Yeah. >> What brand is it? >> Um Anne Klein. >> Anne Klein? >> Yeah. >> Is it A N N or A N N E? Klein K L E I N? >> K L E I N. >> All right. All right. What was the value on the wallet? >> Um probably $50. >> Okay. All right. Are you missing anything out of the wallet? >> No. >> Okay. And what credit cards were attempted to be used? >> The Bank of America. >> Bank of America debit card? >> Yeah. No, it's not debit card. It's credit card. >> Oh, okay. Um Was it Visa MasterCard? MasterCard? All right. Bank of America MasterCard, what was the last four? All right. Have you canceled that or do you plan to? >> No, it's already been canceled. >> Been canceled. All right. Any other credit cards that were attempted to be used? >> Yeah. >> No. Okay. All right. And how many times was it attempted? >> There were at two places. At walmart.com and momoslime. >> What was the other one? >> momoslime >> M O M O slime? >> Mhm. I have that I have that text message with you. >> Okay. And do you have the printouts from the reports at school? >> give them to you. >> Okay. >> Mhm. Yeah, I'll um Officer Barry, he's our safety guy here. I'll give them to him and he'll print them over to you. >> Okay. That's fine. >> Would that be okay? >> Yeah, that's fine. >> Okay. >> So, um All righty here. So, what we'll do is um I'll get a video statement from you here in a second and we'll go through all that. And then we'll start the process with her. And then uh so, um we'll send it over to the state's attorney's office tonight and then we will forward it to the state's attorney's office since you're already on probation. Um and I mean, the theft is one thing, but then, you know, the attempted online uh unlawful use of credit card I mean, those are felonies. Trying to use somebody's credit card. So. >> she was looking up, she was it was like ATM withdrawals and how to hack into a card and it was I mean, so she was you know, it wasn't just an innocent I'm going to buy some stuff from Walmart. It was pretty extensive. >> Trying to figure out how to break the card so she could buy the stuff from Walmart. >> The purchase is $233.00 $233.00 or some cents at Walmart. But it was automatically declined. I think it was a fraud alert. >> Okay. All right. Um give me just a second and then I'll uh come snag you for that and then um and then yeah, you can get those to me to or have him get those to me tomorrow. Uh cuz this is >> I was going to see if uh they can forward them to you tonight cuz I'd like to have those for you. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah, if they can, I'll give you my card and we'll just email them to me. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Cuz I'm guessing they're either word or PDF documents. So, write my address down there. So, all right, give me a minute. I'll be right back. >> [clears throat] >> What began as a report of a missing wallet at a school ultimately developed into a much broader investigation involving alleged theft, unauthorized access to financial information, and attempted online transactions. According to the statements gathered on scene, school staff had already been managing a pattern of reported theft-related behavior and had implemented restrictions designed to limit unsupervised access. Despite those efforts, the investigation centered on claims that a staff member's wallet was taken and that attempts were made to use credit card information for online purchases. Throughout the encounter, officers followed a structured investigative process. Rather than immediately relying on accusations, they collected statements from the reporting parties, established a timeline, confirmed how the fraud alerts were discovered, and documented how the wallet was reportedly recovered. The officer also sought supporting evidence, including school technology records and reports that could help verify the alleged activity. A key factor in the case was the discussion of prior legal involvement. Officers learned that the juvenile was reportedly already on probation related to previous theft allegations. While that history alone does not determine guilt in a new case, it significantly affected how the current allegations would be handled and reviewed by prosecutors. The officer also explained the distinction between simple theft and alleged unlawful use of financial information. Investigators appeared particularly concerned about claims that searches were conducted regarding card access and financial account activity, which potentially elevated the seriousness of the situation beyond a routine property crime investigation. Ultimately, the officers did not make a final legal determination at the scene. Their role was to gather evidence, document statements, preserve facts, and forward the case through the proper judicial process for review. Cases involving juveniles often raise difficult questions about accountability, rehabilitation, and long-term consequences, making careful documentation especially important.
