April 8, 2026, just after 9:40 a.m., Central Division LAPD officers are patrolling near Central Avenue in Town Avenue in downtown Los Angeles when they spot a newer model BMW wanted in connection with a felony crime. What starts as a routine observation quickly turns into something much more dangerous. Officers begin following the BMW. As soon as the driver realizes he's being told, he accelerates hard in an attempt to get away. Warning. The images and information you're about to see may be disturbing. Collector's being notified. Unit is containing southbound 5 passing. >> LAPD initiates a vehicle pursuit onto the southbound 5 freeway. You can hear officers calling out the black BMW, requesting additional units and trying to keep the situation under control as speed picks up. The pursuit is short but intense. 182 be in pursuit of a code 6 Charles vehicle. We're going to be continuing southbound on the five from Indiana. Black BMW two door Indiana following a black 43 unannounced number of occupants. usect. >> The suspect exits the freeway at the Olympic Boulevard offramp, makes a dangerous U-turn against traffic and heads back towards officers. Moments later, the BMW slams headon into a LAPD patrol vehicle. Slow down. Slow down. Coming around the corner. Slow down. Come around the corner. >> The crash brings the chase to a sudden violent stop. After the impact, the driver's door opens. Outsteps 30-year-old Jesus and Nursto Jamie. He gets out and positions himself behind his car. Officers immediately give loud verbal commands. Get your hands up. >> Put your hands up. >> I need a unit to shut down the county off of the south side. Instead, Jamie reaches into his waistband, pulls out a semi-automatic handgun, and points it directly at an officer. Officers react instantly with deadly force. Multiple shots are fired. Jaime is struck and then falls to the ground. Now, I will go ahead and show different perspectives from different officers body camps. >> Hey, let me see your hands. Don't move. >> Turn around. [ __ ] Put your ass up. Get behind. Shots fired. Option. 12. We are unable to see anything. He's going to be down behind the vehicle in the bushes. We got the airbags deployed. >> We need airship. Try to keep eyes on. We got no eyes on him. STAY ON THE [ __ ] GROUND. STAY ON THE [ __ ] GROUND. >> A passenger in the BMW complies with officer's commands and is removed from the vehicle and taken into custody without further incident. The passenger was later identified as Juan Guayeta. A short time after Guyetta was taken to custody, officers approached Jamie and took him into custody without further intent. clear. >> Turn around. Hang up. >> Give me Give me one of my After being taken into custody, Jaime was moved moved into an awaiting Los Angeles Country Fire Paramedics position nearby. Los Angeles Country Fire Department medics treated Jaime for the gunshot wound she sustained. However, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased. Investigators recovered the loaded 9mm semi-automatic lock pistol Jaime was armed with at the scene and booked in as evidence. Additionally, a loaded 357 Magnum Astro revolver was was recovered from inside the BMW and booked in as evidence. Two of the involved officers were transported to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released for injuries they sustained from the traffic collision with the BMW.
