[Music] as we all know the signs of spring are all around us uh this weather is one particular example in fact on St Patrick's Day which Falls tomorrow and happens to coincide with the first round of the nc2a basketball tournament uh we tend to have very good weather in recent years a couple years ago it was in the 70s tomorrow they're expecting 60 we'll cross our fingers for a lack of rain but in addition to that what you see around you are things like the sunshine the MPD motorcycles out on the road today is their first day in fact you'll see more of them next week when all of the uh winter snow thaws out and doesn't freeze over anymore St Patrick as many of you know is one of the most recognized of patron saints in the country of Ireland and his his sainthood in Ireland has really turned into quite a secular holiday in many countries the United States is one of the main ones and as part of that there'll be lots of celebrations lots of festivities going on tomorrow tomorrow not only in the area we're at here downtown near North Water Street but also in other areas of the city and of the state tomorrow M marks actually the second uh year since enhanced penalties and laws have gone into effect in the state of Wisconsin regarding impaired driving I.E drunken driving so we hope that those laws have an effect on reducing the number of people who are getting behind a wheel after consuming an e excess amounts of alcohol last year two people died during vehic vehicular crashes as a result of drinking on St Patrick's Day fortunately neither one of those was in the city of Milwaukee but it did occur in they did occur in the state of Wisconsin our desire is for all of our citizens our visitors all those who recreate in our city to have a safe holiday we're going to help them with that in in the form of enhanced police enforcements in the way of safety belt usage enforcement and in the way of impaired driving enforcement drunken driving enforcement our proof of our luck will be hopefully zero deaths and zero drunken driving arrests to that end once again this year we're intensifying our efforts we'll have in a neighborhood of 25 additional Muki Police Department uh motorcycle unit officers on patrol beginning around 8:00 a.m. tomorrow and continuing through bar close the following day which is about 2:30 in the morning now not all of these officers are on overtime in fact most of them be on regular duty hours in enhancing the two things I spoke about earlier there will be some that'll be working on overtime on a grant related $50,000 uh Grant from the state of Wisconsin it's pretty much a yearly thing and we along with other surrounding jurisdictions apply it towards this specific enforcement on this particular day we're going to place special emphasis and when I say we I mean the Milwaukee Police Department on three areas of our city the area we're in now northwater Street up and down northwater street uh between St Paul and north of Juno West Blue Mount Avenue uh pretty much west of 50th Street in that area and then also on the two campus areas of WM and Marquette and the reason for that third one is because both of them are in the uh NCAA tournament and March Madness the fever of it all is in the air so we expect some rers to be uh partaking in both f festivities tomorrow now what we want to ask our public and our visitors to do is to make sure that when they are recreating down here in our city that they be aware if whether or not they're being over served and if they're designated as a driver they have to cut that out um use taxis use the Milwaukee County Transit System once again this year and I believe it's the 24th year in a row Miller Kors is offering free rides on St Patty's Day don't make me sing it and that'll begin at 6: at night and in addition to that we encourage everybody to use a friend or use a relative if indeed you are allow yourself to be over [Music] served
