okay good afternoon i'm officer robokowski the milwaukee police department like to thank you all for coming i'd also like to thank mayor tom barrett alderman willie wade and our representatives from the department of neighborhood services and public works along with the 37 street corridor bid representative the reason we're here today is this has been a combined effort of business groups and the neighbors in this area in regards to illegal dumping the citizens in this area they want to fight crime and they feel that this kind of stuff that you see behind us adds to the part of the crime it's not only a blight or nuisance it also is a safety factor if you had to have a chance to take a look at that pile there's rebar children play on there if they slip they can be impaled by that so we need to as a you as a community join together and stop this my name is maurice williams i'm with the 30th street corridor business improvement district 37. our organization works to economically revitalize an industrial area that goes from hampton to highland 35th to 27th we'd like to express our thanks to this community response that is addressing this issue the one thing for city of milwaukee residents we do have operate two of the biggest self-help centers in the state so residents have the opportunity to properly dispose of their items uh at no cost as long as it's just household debris we did just today actually begin charging a fifteen dollar per load cost for construction debris only but it's only fifteen dollars and you can just dispose of the stuff legally in the right way we're working in in cooperation with the police department and the department of neighborhood services and as well as the residents to identify when you see anybody trying to illegally dump on a lot if you get that information get it to the police department if it's in progress call their non-emergency number number at 933-4444 or if it's after the fact and it's just a pile that's there you can contact the city of milwaukee at 286 city and we will make sure to to get the stuff cleaned out
