foreign represented by John Busby for their generous donation of ten thousand dollars to equip our 87 bicycles with enhanced safety packages of red and blue lights you may recall last week we had the unpleasant duty of our of reporting on the most recent situation where a drunk driver hit one of our officers and at that time we had officer Paul helmaniac with us who described what he had done with his own money with his own bicycle well we found that you can get a similar package industrial strength so to speak and it is that package that the Miller compressing has so graciously decided to purchase I also want to take an opportunity to thank all them and Donovan who founded operation impact it's a great place in which donations can be put and I am a reliably assured that operation impact is going to volunteer to replace the three bicycles that have gotten squished recently so we're certainly grateful for that um I think we're also lucky to have officers like our bicycle officers it is the form of Patrol that our felons hate the most it is stealthy it is quiet it is quick it's on streets it's in alleys and it's on sidewalks and our officers on bicycles have become a critical part not just of policing and keeping safe entertainment districts but an essential part of fighting crime fear and disorder in our most challenged neighborhoods so we're very proud of the work of our officers we've doubled the number of officers on bicycles in these last few years and they've really done a commendable job of keeping our neighborhoods safe and making a large number of high quality arrests these lights will certainly not only make them more visible to the public but keep them safer as well and we're extremely grateful to Miller compressing and to operation impact for recognizing that fact and providing this equipment I'm going to ask up although Donovan to say a few words as well as John Busby from Miller compressing Alderman Donovan thank you thank you chief when John called me last evening and said Bob I want to help on this effort to get the lights for the uh the bicycles I said well that's great John you've been a big help all these years and he said how much is it going to cost I said well the only figure I've heard is 10 000 bucks the snap of a finger he said you got it it's yours that's the kind of company that's the kind of guy that John Busby is Miller compressing is a great corporate citizen for Milwaukee they have been a big contributor over the years for operation impact they believe they know they get it that the only way we can address crime fear and disorder in Milwaukee is through Partnerships like this everyone working together so I can't say enough about John and this effort that's going to keep our officers safe and our neighborhoods even safer so with that uh John come on up here here's the man of the hour John Busby absolutely well thank you Chief and thank you Bob when I call Bob last night I never expected that it would result in this we're a pretty low Prof profile company but um you should have seen what we have brought forward if it was twenty thousand yeah uh but one thing that we stand for is safety of all of our employees and so this fits very well into what we stand for as a company and secondly we have over a hundred plus acres of property and operations throughout Milwaukee we probably demand and get more services and protection from the police department than most businesses and this is a small token of our way to say thank you thank you all right well thank you uh we're fortunate to have a large number of officers with us today as they're all undergoing training at the lakefront so it's another Testament to the kind of people in your Police Department that notwithstanding that four officers have been hit by drunk drivers in the last three weeks we've still got a large number of people volunteering for this assignment to keep our neighbors safe foreign
