Going to start my day off today with a little workout. Today I'm in downtown Montgomery and uh we're going to check out and see what's going on. Why is my camera so shaky today with the major interstate there is the Wright brothers airplane the very first airplane built. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. [Music] In an earlier video I did about Hank Williams. Um, I made mention that Montgomery supposedly has the largest air university in the country and that was founded by the Wright brothers who brought this plane. They built it. They learned how to fly it and then they taught others how to fly it. This clip that I'm about to show is actually just a little vignette of a video that they show new recruits when they're coming to Air University. And it actually shows the Wright brothers plane. Meanwhile, [Music] Welcome to Maxwell Gunter Air Force Base. From the first US Civilian Flying School established by the Wright brothers in 1910 to the establishment of Air University in 1946, Maxwell Gunner Air Force Base today remains a major subordinate of Air [Music] Man, I sure wish we could fly that for real with the river in the background. This building right over here is where we're going to make our way down to. It's the amphitheater. Seems like a long ways away, but I'm not actually going to walk down there. I'm going to drive. I'm in a different area now. What's that? It's the Daily Planet. Oh, no. It's just the Montgomery Advertiser, but it sure looks like the Daily Planet. Where's Superman when you need him? The Montgomery Riverwalk is famous for the steam paddle boat that you can ride the Harriet. It's actually the Harriet 2 now. And right next to it are these train tracks. Trains are up and down it all day. So to get down there, they've erected this, the Riverwalk, to make it look like, well, for starters, you got a steam train that's 3D. And these pillars are designed to look like the steamboats, the Harriets smoke stacks. Pretty neat indeed. Since I was a little kid, I've always admired the globe on that building and thought of it as the Daily Planets globe. Spins around and even in one of the movies it falls off and Christopher Ree grabs it to save the day. Things first, when you come downtown, you have to feed the meter. It's six minutes for a nickel, 12 minutes for a dime. And there's a limit of 2 hours. Well, I'm going to put all my change in, I guess, and I have an hour and 48 minutes. A staple of downtown Montgomery is Riverwalk Stadium, where our minor league ball team plays at, the Montgomery Biscuits. And where they came up with the name Biscuits, I have no clue. And the site of their ball field used to be a Confederate military prison. Just in case you were wondering, that's what the biscuit logo looks like. Just a biscuit with hands and feet, eyes, and a piece of butter in its mouth. Has a tongue. They tried to keep some of the original aspects of this city from a long time ago. So, they put these sidewalks in but left all this cobblestone from the past. They also left this old school painting at the top of this building, Teague Hardware Company warehouse. It's not Teague Hardware anymore. It is now the Railard Brewing Company, the unofficial beer of Montgomery baseball, but they left it there to keep remembrance of uh bygone era. And this is what it looks like. Of course, I can't get inside because it's uh early in the day on a Wednesday and there is no ball games going on this early in the day. Maybe there'll be something going on later tonight, but that's what it looks like. When they built this ball field, all of this exterior was here and it was buildings. They tore down the insides, gutted it out to make the ball field and the bleachers and beer stands, food stands, etc. on the inside and left all the old out here as a remembrance of the past. This section is what they call the alley downtown with some of the we'll say more expensive, but some of the better restaurants of the city. All down that alley is just restaurants. I've never been to New York, but I would like to think that this downtown area kind of resembles New York City where it's a lot of old buildings, old facades on the outside and smaller alleys in between just a few of the buildings. Well, except of course to our newer buildings, but I guess they could still have new buildings in New York, too. And to get down to the amphitheater, you have to walk down this long corridor into the tunnel and out the other side to the river. The flashing lights down here make it seem kind of crazy. I don't know if you can see them flashing too well in the video. And when you get to the edge of the tunnel, you go through these two iron gates. back out into the world. And there sits the iconic Harriet river boat. It's the first thing you see in 1961. The river there that you see the boat on here rose all the way up to that level. Got to be at least 20 or 30 feet higher. than what it is now on that day. And there sits the area 2 with her paddle wheel and of course it's upgraded now. You can see the the big air conditioner units which it wouldn't have had long ago. There she is and all of her glory. And there are the steam stacks that I talked about on that sign earlier. And we've just about made it to the amphitheater. In fact, well, you can't really see it from here. I'll have to get around the corner here to show you where we stood before when we zoomed in on the amphitheater. And it's shrouded with trees. But if you see the corner of that building on top of that hill there, right next to it, right in there is the Wright brothers airplane where we were [Music] I feel like a rock star up here. [Music] And of course, you get a beautiful shot off the back of the stage with the river behind us. [Music] I was trying to get a time lapse of the train going by, but then it just stopped and you can hear it clanking around in the background. It's just going this way and it'll stop and go this way and stop and go that way. So, I'll have to settle with what little bit of time lapse I have, I guess. [Music] Now I'm at the splash pad. Believe it or not, right there where the star is in front of us, water sprays up out of the ground for kids or even adults to come and just have fun. Let's see if it works. Apparently the splash pad isn't working right now. Epic fail. I would like to fly the Phantom into the ball field, but I don't know if they would appreciate that too [Music] much. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] It's time to go back through the tunnel. I am about to walk underneath this train. I hope nothing gives way. [Music] and I officially made it back with 18 minutes to spare. Check out that mural, man. That's awesome. later that same evening. I'm at my daughter's softball practice right now. And look at these clouds. It's amazing. [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Hey, Heat. [Music] I hope you enjoyed my video. Please hit the like button and subscribe.
