i am erin mejia and i'm a sergeant with the milwaukee police department on april 27th we were dispatched to a shooting at 12th and locust i do recall hearing the dispatch assignments it came over originally as a subject who was calling saying that everyone was dead in his house we started getting ready to go to the call when it was upgraded and at that point the caller had called and said that he had killed everybody and then he told us that he was feeling very anxious and he was going to kill his grandchild as well a chaotic and emotional scene on milwaukee's north side as loved ones and neighbors learn of a tragic shooting five people including at least one teenager were killed you always hope that it's not real that the call that you're getting is maybe someone who is just imagining things it's it's scary to think that when you when you get to a scene like that like what these people are saying could actually be true understand this is a very tragic event our prayers are out to the family when you're done at a scene like that you can get emotional at that point because you realize that well you're going home to your family but now somebody else doesn't have a family anymore so it becomes very real at that point i don't think there's any good way to bring any type of relief to the family of such a tragedy the only thing i can say is need to take your time to heal the victims of that incident matter to us as well they matter to the community their lives mattered and it does affect those of us who even didn't know them but it makes an impact and their lives are important and i hope that out of all of this that they can focus on the memory of the good times and try not to focus so much on you know the actor and what he did [Music] you
