hello i'm sergeant efrain cornejo as part of the milwaukee police department's continuous commitment to be transparent with our community we created community briefings to provide information to the public regarding officer-involved critical incidents community briefings are intended to provide relevant information which may include video footage audio recordings photographs and other evidence it is our priority to release this information and inform our community as soon as possible unless releasing the information will compromise the integrity of the investigation when watching this video keep in mind that this may still be an ongoing investigation for privacy purposes we have concealed audio and images of community members captured in this video the video you are about to see may contain officers using force explicit language and disturbing images viewer discretion is strongly advised hello my name is david feldmeier inspector with the milwaukee police department in this community briefing i will share with you information regarding circumstances surrounding the officer involved personal injury vehicle crash that happened on june 6 2022 at approximately 501 pm at the intersection of north titonia avenue and west capitol drive in district 5 on the city's north side on that day date and time officers conducted a traffic stop of a jeep cherokee in the 2400 block of west atkinson for speeding no visible registration plates and a broken tail light the vehicle was occupied by a single adult male the vehicle was later found to be stolen from illinois upon officers approaching the vehicle it fled from the stop at a high rate of speed officers initiated a pursuit the fleeing vehicle was able to get at least two blocks ahead of the pursuing squad the fleeing vehicle crashed into another vehicle in the 3800 block of north titonia avenue the driver was arrested a short time later the officers in the pursuing squad witnessed the crash from a distance and continued to respond as their squad entered the intersection of north titonia avenue and west capitol drive they collided with another vehicle the following video depicts the squad pursuit and crash 2452 on atkinson sure 5274 traffic two four five two and atkinson stops gonna be a black jeep cherokee one occupant the reason for this stop is gonna be excessive speed no plate and effective tail light seven threes with this [Applause] is capital an occupant of the vehicle struck by the squad was transported to an area hospital and treated for life-threatening injuries and was ultimately listed as stable an officer was treated for minor injuries the fleeing driver was charged by the milwaukee county district attorney's office with three counts of fleeing and eluding an officer causing bodily harm or property damage and three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety this investigation is ongoing and is being led by the milwaukee area investigative team with the city of waukesha police department as the lead agency at the conclusion of their investigation they will present their findings to the milwaukee county district attorney's office for review
