today i am uh well i'm in austin georgia hostile georgia is home to six flags over georgia i've been here many many times before i'm a season pass holder and while i was in the atlanta area i was coming here anyways to check out and see what was going on but i figured there's a story here that i haven't really went into detail about so today's story takes place at six flags over georgia you know it's always a fun day coming to six flags but today i am telling the story of the death of asia lashawn ferguson not so much a good time people come to theme parks to have fun ride rides and roller coasters and the subject of today's video was no different that's what they were here for in the park but they had a little different experience than what most people have when they come to six flags or any other theme park across the world in a shocking turn of events six flags has their log chamber rewrite open and i haven't ridden it in years every time i come it's always closed so before we get started with this video i've gotta hop on the log flume ride real quick oh look at that man look at it [Music] just a little breathe i feel good yeah in june of 2008 a group of about 40 people from oakley springs missionary baptist church in springfield south carolina they took a church trip and came right here to six flags over georgia among that group of people there was a lot of teenagers but one in particular is the basis for the story today and i am talking about a young man he was 17 years old his name was asia lashon ferguson asia his friends and family described him as one of the nicest people you would ever meet and that he was real funny like he was destined to be a comedian when he grew up but he was thoughtful even his principal at kenan high school said that he was one of the most well-mannered students that he had in his entire school this church group with asia they get to the park and they go all out and they just start riding all the rides at some point throughout the day they come back into gotham city they wanted to ride batman the ride oh while they were on batman the ride at some point asia his hat flew off and it landed on the ground underneath the roller coaster there was really no way to get it so he just kind of had to abandon the hat there he asked some of the employees who worked up on the platform for the coaster if there was any way he could get it but there wasn't they said there's no way you can get down there they continued on with their day riding more rides they got on goliath they even got to play some games and they won some prizes they spent the remainder of their day in the park he just no longer had a hat as the day went on asia he actually kind of forgot about the hat they stood in lines and they chatted and they had a good time and they rode a lot of rides they had a blast [Music] as the day went on and it got later and the group knew that they had to start thinking about hitting home so it wasn't super duper late when they got back to south carolina they make sure they have the whole group together and they start heading towards the exit as they were leaving the park asha looks over to his right in the fencing area and he sees his hat laying there and apparently this hat meant a lot to him so asia made a decision that was the wrong one and it cost him his life now at six flags you see the parking lot is all out here and to get out to your car you physically have to walk directly past batman the ride and so asia and his friends they were walking out here you could as you can see here there's two fences one here and one here um asia was walking out to their car and he happens to walk past and notice his hat laying out there in fact there's one laying out there now probably about in the same spot so asia and one of his friends decided that it would be a great idea to not only hop this outer fence but hop the inner fence as well and to run in there to go get his hat slaying on the gravel underneath the rod as asia is running over towards his hat in an unfortunate look of timing the batman ride vehicle reaches the top of the chain lift and it starts his ride on the track [Music] so he runs over to get his hat and it's at that exact moment the train car is going through the loop and right when it gets to the bottom of the loop it strikes asia right in his head decapitating him severing his head from his body reverting back to my own ride footage from earlier it was right here where asia was struck in the head that's at the lowest point on the ride and that's exactly where his hat landed no one on the ride itself was hurt it was the actual machinery that struck asia and on that same note his friend who also jumped over the fence with him he was also not injured because he stayed back asia was the only one who ran up to that particular part of the ground to pick up his hat batman the ride was built in 1997 by a company called bnm and the ride takes you up to a max height of about 105 feet which is all the way up at the top of the chain lift and then as you come down and pick up speed it has a max speed of between 55 and 60 miles an hour and that's how fast it was going when it struck asia it's all that brute force of the middle machinery parts coming in at nearly 60 miles an hour striking him that's what severed asia's head from his body that's what decapitated him just the the metal car going so fast and hitting him head on asia's death at the hands of the the batman the ride roller coaster here it was 100 completely asia's fault even even without sides that say keep out for your own safety there's fences there for a reason and not just one there was two asia had to jump over both of these fences to get inside to try and retrieve a hat that was worth about what 10 15 20 bucks 30 at the most he lost his life over a 30 dollar hat and it it was 100 his fault there was nothing the ride people could do they didn't know he was out there there's a there's multiple fences uh it's implied when you see a fence that means keep out but that doesn't make it any easier on asia's family they still lost their 17 year old son brother nephew you name it he's still gone now they have given interviews since the accident saying that uh you know they're not holding six flags accountable for this this was asia's fault but it's still heartbreaking they're still devastated it's a horrible tragedy that was just simply an accident ultimately batman the ride shut down right after the accident happened they stayed closed the next day on sunday they were closed all day monday and then they opened back up tuesday meaning the ride was shut down for about two and a half days while they did all their investigating and cleaned up everything it was when six flags was given a press conference about this incident that they revealed the news that this actually wasn't the first time this happened back in 2002 a 58 year old groundskeeper who worked here for six flags over georgia his name was samuel guyton he stumbled out underneath the ride and was struck by a rider this time it was a girl who was sitting in the seat riding and as the ride came over his head her leg struck him in the head delivering a devastating blow to his skull and breaking this rider's leg as you can see here when you sit on batman the ride you're sitting in the ride vehicle and your legs and feet are like hanging down so this girl was riding the ride and she was going around when all of a sudden her leg struck milton in his head and her leg was shattered milton suffered a severe trauma to his head and he ultimately died from that blow to the head again it was just another accident but that's now two deaths at the hands of batman the right the rider with the broken leg she made a 100 recovery but it makes you wonder what's next for batman the ride who is its next victim that is going to do it for this video today here from austin georgia and six flags
