[Music] my name is willie murphy i'm an inspector of police milwaukee police department [Music] so i joined the milwaukee police department in december of 1996 and i joined because i felt like it was a calling on my life i felt like cops actually stood for it actually stands for constables on patrol but for me it was deeper than that i felt like it was my responsibility to change other people's situations and resonated in my heart and that's what i've been trying to do ever since i joined the milwaukee police department i am a product of the city born and raised here in the city of milwaukee the vast majority of my family still actually lives within the geographical boundaries of district number seven's police station um i went to milwaukee public schools graduated from milwaukee public schools and i am married i've been married for 24 years got three kids and again like i said everyone is here in the city [Music] i was a captain at district number seven for i got promoted in june of 2018 to captain and it was just one of the most awesome privileges and great responsibilities as well of my policing career having an opportunity to connect to the community a big thing that i always looked at and even in this position is you know focusing on crime reduction and then strong community partnerships and community engagement so that was just a beautiful opportunity and i really relished it and turned it over to new leadership and i am certain that they're going to do great as well [Music] i'm the inspector of police over the patrol bureau and the patrol bureau i like to say is the face of government here in the city when you make a phone call it's a 9-1-1 or a non-emergency number it's the police officers at the districts that are showing up at your door so i'm responsible for all seven of the uh the districts as well as the specialized patrol division in regards to what i want the community to take back in regards to all of the tension that's going on in the nation and the city is that at some point we've got to be able to come to the table and have recent minds and come up with whatever the reforms are going to look like and i'm eager to get to the table and have those conversations
