had some great work last night on the South Side as you know there was a lightning strike that they injured two women last night one of whom is remains in critical condition at the uh at the hospital now the other woman was also unconscious upon the arrival of the officers and I want to recognize District Two officers Fernando roas and David weski um upon their arrival they found these two women on the ground unconscious and one of the women was not breathing they literally cleared the blood out of her mouth administered CPR and chest compressions and got her breathing and her heart going again uh this individual woman is expected to survive right now once again we commend the fire department for their rapid response and their ability to transport her to the hospital and stabilize her inside their medic unit uh but without the quick thinking of these two officers and their willingness to apply life-saving measures uh we might well have two people in in in critical condition so I'm going to present them to you right now and by all means U ask him some questions about the events last nightone have you ever seen anything like this in your job no no not not in the eight years I've been on this job I have never seen anyone uh struck by lightning what did I mean how bad well I do not believe they took a direct strike uh believe that uh the lightning bolt probably struck the sidewalk or the street right near where they were walking um they're both laying face ground on or face down on the ground when um when we first got there um and they obviously needed medical attention uh as soon as possible we just tried to do what we could officer Roos you guys were right I'm guessing the weather was still going on while you guys were trying to administer CPR was that a factor at all on what you were doing uh it was yeah it was put ring uh was coming down pretty good uh talking about arrival uh one of the victims was uh unconscious uh not breathing uh pulse uh related that information to my partner uh we reposition the body and uh uh started doing chest compressions for about uh 45 seconds to a minute until MFD arrived [Music]
