[Music] today we're back in Gaston Alabama but it's a little bit different today I have Parker with me and we're gonna to her a little bit of the downtown and show him around a little bit we were driving down the road I was actually looking for a Wells Fargo here locally and I happen to pass this area that looks really cool it reminded me of the Americana United States this downtown area I found some interesting friends that had liked this area too for example how about Rick from The Walking Dead what do you know Clint Eastwood but not this Clint Eastwood there's also another interesting picture of George Washington here how about this George in his what really caught my eye as I was driving down the road is right here behind me it's the Ritz theater this theater opened its doors July 4th 1928 but it didn't used to always be here on that location it used to sit right here the fine is the same that was on the old building sitting on that wall their [Music] grocery store and you can still see remnants of the grocery store here behind me that was the grocery store when they decided to move the rib from this location next to it to there they expanded the Ritz saw its final play performed here on February 20th the 1965 and after that a new owner purchased it and had it for many years they tried to do several plays but it wasn't successful in 2008 has received a major renovation updating the electrical adding seating adding air conditioning and heating to the inside of it and now it is owned by the city of Gaston and they open it and they run plays here each one they have a different performance [Music] it's all been here since the forties they left it the same you can see the lighting underneath the marquee inside of it here you can see that they have posters from other plays that they've performed here hopefully they keep the Ritz theater up and it never falls into disarray again it's a neat place and it's a place of Gadson and americana history [Music] directly across the street from the Ritz theater is this brick wall actually a high school at one time chemists and some high school the 1929 it was tore down in 2006 you can see here they provided pictures this is what the school looked like in 1929 it was renovated and this is what it looked like in 1958 and in 1981 after another renovation this is what it looks like in 2006 they closed this doors forever and the school was tore down but they didn't get rid of the memory in the 77 years of history that the school had on the city of Gaston [Music] walking down the street here's an old appliance store obviously it's not in service anymore but pretty cool and I do notice that it appears all these places are here but the majority of them are closed down you can tell that some of these shops have been closed for a long time for example [Music] I imagine a jukebox in there and people coming to get sundaes those type things and I'm sure during their heyday this was a boom in part of town but now not so much now most of these buildings are just sitting there's history inside of them just sitting there I know you're probably curious to know why I'm backing GATS then well I will explain a little we came here to gets then before all the funerals happened and everybody died last week I'll put it the first episodes right here of our dancin trip and during that time we enjoyed it here and as you all know my wife is a travel nurse so after we got back home and everything happened my wife was contacted about a possible job opportunity hearing get stand and we evaluated the pay and all the other situations pay travel etc we evaluated all of it and she chose to take the job so we will be coming back and forth against then over the next few weeks or a day or two at a time and we'll get to explore more of the area here right now we've stopped at a playground you can see Parker there in the background playing he wanted to play for a few minutes and then we got to go back to the hotel it's getting close to time for my wife to have to get up and go to work [Music] this contraption here behind me is pretty neat I've never seen one of these before at a playground [Music] saved you as much fun as that was and all we get to get out of here soon we have to get back to the hotel because it's almost time for my wife to get ready to go to work but it was because of your generous PayPal donation and patreon donation that while we're here we'll be able to go out travel around and see everything that there is to see around here vlog it and allow you to see it as well [Music] and I just want to say if you didn't know yes I do embrace crowdfunding and at the end of each video you will see a link to a PayPal and a patreon both of which are being utilized both which have gracious donators from everyone out there and I wouldn't be able to travel around and pay entry to the places that charge and drive hours out of the way from wherever I'm at to go see all this stuff or maintain this equipment if it wasn't for you generous patrons like I said at the end of every video you can find those links yeah you wish to support this channel as well that rids place was pretty cool but I've dropped a me off at work for the night and I have to get up and go pick her up pretty early in the morning so I'm gonna go ahead and end this video now I do want to thank you all for watching I'll see you tomorrow have a good night [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
