tonight okay so at about 10:30 this evening uh deputies responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at 5198 64 Street North here in uh lman uh unincorporated St Petersburg area and the initial call uh involved a pretty violent uh struggle that was going on within the home when deputies arrived uh they observed John zamo Moa was a 49-year-old male uh in front of the home in a small pickup truck and he was in the process of ramming uh into the house he was rocking back and forth and there was a car that belonged to his wife Cammy Samoa who's a 47 I'm sorry 45-year-old female uh who he had been in the argument with and so John Zam was ramming into the house he was ramming Cammy zam's vehicle and all of this started uh this afternoon Cammy had been out at a event with some friends she arrived home uh John has a history unfortunately and sadly of some pretty serious mental health issues he had been uh drinking this afternoon he hadn't been drinking apparently for the last year but he started drinking this afternoon and the drinking couple with the mental health issues triggered off a series of events uh tonight within the home where uh he literally destroyed the home he took um some type of a baseball bat or other uh wooden type uh club and just started tearing up the house and uh he had left the house and gone out into the driveway and then when the deputies got there again he was ramming the house literally one of the pillars of the house was knocked off uh the car was pushed into the house and he was rocking back and forth as the deputies approached him he put the car in reverse and pulled out onto uh 64 Street and the deputies at that point uh thought that he might be trying to run them over so they made sure that they got out of the way uh the car was disabled and as the car became disabled there on 64 Street uh zamo got out of the truck and as he got out of the truck he had a knife in his hand and it was a bony type honey knife um and a knife that could cause some real serious injuries as he came toward the deputies they saw the knife in his hand they ordered him to drop the knife several times he refused and he made a statement to the deputies is that you're going to have to kill me um as they again uh tried to retreat tried to back up he kept coming toward them and as he was coming toward them uh when he got between 3 and 5 ft away is when the deputies fired uh several rounds striking zle on the chest and he was deceased there um again this is what we know at this point it's still early in the investigation is still ongoing uh but we're very fortunate the deputies are safe uh and that uh they were able to uh do what they did to protect themselves because he was clearly coming at them uh a good portion of this is captured on video that we've been able to review and that's what we we know at this point how many uh deputies were at the scene at the time the the shots rang out well there were three uh and the two who fired uh Deputy Jake guthier and Deputy John seery are the two who fired um and there was also a third uh Deputy here one of the lieutenants was there on the scene as well now you said that the uh the uh deceased suspect he had history right do you know what kind of history that is well apparently he's again mental health issues L bipolar um you know those types of things uh and and had a history of alcoholism and had uh not been drinking for a year but started drinking again this afternoon anything criminal that you might might know of he does have a criminal history uh we've been out here to the house in fact the two deputies involved in this deputy sigur and Deputy guthier were here just a few weeks ago where zamo was a victim uh in in an aggravated assault case uh we've had several calls out here to the house and he does have an extensive criminal history we're still in the process of putting all that together but I know he's been arrested several times and uh no injuries to the deputy or the female victim no no nothing no okay you good all right yep no problem
