resource officers all vital to providing efficient and professional Public Safety Services to the citizens of pellis County I'm very proud to to be a penel County Sheriff's deputy the opportunities that it provides is just unbelievable you know I spent 11 years on SWAT and training and now I'm in the canine unit so doing things that I just love to do and enjoy the best way to really compare it is just looking at Patrol is that the backbone and it's a spring board for other avenues you can actually be in another unit and never actually know what's going on in Patrol it's just so many things to I get involved in there's a lot of potential here there's a lot of different areas in law enforcement you can go into you can expand your career expand yourself as a person pelis county is the most densely populated county for its size in the State of Florida and the sheriff's office is responsible for all of the unincorporated area and 133 cities under contract with the agency for law enforcement Services add to that over 200 Mi of Coastline and several preservation areas and you have a better picture of the wide ranging law enforcement challenges and opportunities with the Sheriff's Office you can go on and on and on with the different entities that's why I say every 3 to four years nine out of 10 you can find another something else to motivate you it's never a boring place to be there's always something different um there's always an opportunity and a place to go to if you're looking for just something a new challenge that you want to do there's always places that you can go and further your career and training and experience I came here specifically to work with the sheriff's office because of the reputation and the good thing about it is the freedom that you have to move around like getting this kind of unit and just the good people that work here each day is different so one day I can be the SRO one day I can be a psychologist one day I can be a a doctor so um many different uh facors and roles that I play here as an SRO especially in the Middle School level deputies customarily begin their law enforcement career by attending a Law Enforcement Academy for 17 weeks and then once on board with the sheriff's office they undergo another 14-week field training phase before receiving a patrol assignment deputies with previous law enforcement experience with other agencies are usually eligible to undergo go an abbreviated field training period starting out in Patrol the equipment in Patrol is phenomenal the weapon systems that we have the equipment we have in our vehicles uh is top rated it's top-notch stuff and as a trainer with the agency when I was in the training section I just got to see firsthand how important training is to the sheriff and the resources that he dedicated to the training unit was were phenomenal phenomenal Patrol operations is where everybody starts but the training never stops it is required and ongoing and in-house with the sheriff's Training Division the training is outstanding our training section definitely you know is the best around and they they keep us you know on our toes and and we are very well prepared out here to deal with just about anything variety stability opportunity and a team spirit and it is a Brotherhood and it is a family um that we all take care of each other and look out for each other and I always say we're brothers and sisters in green and white and um it doesn't matter what color you are what denomination you may be or what your ethnic background may be knowing that you have that common Bond of a a brothership sistership there's a sense of teamwork that extends Beyond Patrol into the whole agency and I think that the policies and the good leadership that we have is what drives that because the morale is so high it's one of these fantasy jobs and I thank God for for getting it and I don't take for granted th those those times when you can actually go to somebody's house get involved in somebody's life uh even just push the car off the side of the road for him that you know that you were doing the right thing and uh and it gives you a feeling inside that um that no paycheck is going to fill if you're interested in being staffed well you're interested in being equipped well trained well being able to go out and do your job and be supported this is
