[Music] hundreds of Deputy sheriffs and civilian support staff at the pellis County Sheriff's Office perform their assigned Public Safety and public service tasks every day but there is another special division with a conventional mission in an unusual setting it can range from doing EKGs for a spontaneous chest pain to giving somebody their simple daily medication special things happen in medical um people people get healed in medical people can get their problems fixed in medical um the stuff that happens in medical doesn't happen anywhere else in the jail at the Sheriff's inmate healthc Care Division doctors nurses nursing assistants Pharmacists and many other healthc care related providers practice their profession in the pelis county jail inmates are are their patients the interaction with the staff and the inmates is is uh patient care they're not you know treating them as inmates they're here to treat them as patients and that's how they address them they're here for this their medical issues and that's how they treat them well yeah it's good it's like when people say thank you and they mean it and you know they're in a bad situation and they're grateful it's very rewarding the inmate Healthcare division is located on the 53 acre jail complex in central penella County near the Criminal Justice Center the facility was opened in 2007 and houses those inmates requiring all manner of medical and psychological attention think of it as a doctor's office emergency room Public Health Center and walk-in clinic combined I uh have done it all I've worked in uh home health care to hospitals to geriatrics and I finally settled here because I feel like I have more of an impact on the community um got kind of burnt out in the hospital setting and decided to take a jump into the Sheriff's Office and I love it I had a chance to compare with the different hospitals I worked before with the sheriff and U we we don't have to worry about uniforms I Get Better Health Care here deputies are always there to provide security and this is better for me medical staff members work closely with detention deputies during medication pass and other occasions of inmate contact and there's some deputies always within Arms Reach of me or that I can get for help if I need it it's actually like I told people I feel safer than if I was in a hospital or a nursing home or anywhere else the 468 bed inmate healthc Care Facility itself is equipped to provide state-of-the-art care in dentistry kidney dialysis and a variety of other treatments that can be delivered on on site instead of transporting inmates to care providers outside the jail the the the care that they have to give people who hav't sought care in years a lot of these people come here and haven't been to the doctor so they encounter a lot of medical issues from the small to the major and the jail really saves a lot of people lives when it comes to the care that they provide inmate healthc care is a tremendous opportunity for medical practitioners to experience a high energy work environment and team oriented Medical practice medical staff members are employees of the pellis County Sheriff's Office and are eligible for all the benefits enjoyed by other sworn and support staff members the program is nationally accredited and has received High marks from expert inspection teams is is second to none it's Second To None there's a there's a nurse here all the time um 24 hours a day 7 days a week whenever whenever we need a nurse to come down here they're readily available there's a doctor readily available there's there's a nurse practitioner ready available everyone's right here everything's right here for them I've told my kids I'll probably retire here I like what I do and there's so many positions available to nurses out there you should work where you like and I like it here hello I'm Sheriff Bob gualter over 60% of the inmates in the penel county jail are awaiting trial we are charged with their care and custody until their case is resolved more and more of them have serious Medical conditions which require the expert attention of our dedicated medical staff members regardless of why they are in our custody we must make sure their health is monitored and maintained practicing medicine in the jail is a Humane and challenging calling and it is one more reason why we are leading the way for a safer pellis learn more about the pelis county sheriff's office by visiting our website and following us on social media [Music]
