hey everybody it's James Freeman as most of you know the governor of New Mexico recently outlawed the carry of firearms for Citizens but she made an exemption for law enforcement officers and I know most of you are thinking well of course she did James that's because Law Enforcement Officers use Firearms responsibly and never shoot or harm innocent people with them right well just a couple of months before the governor's order Albuquerque police were involved in a shooting where they were shooting at a man with a knife and hit two innocent bystanders one of which ended up in the hospital for at least a month so the Story begins when a Good Samaritan picks up a 25 year old by the name of Jeremiah salyards he goes to take him to a McDonald's drive-through to buy him dinner while they're in the drive-through salyards stabs the driver in the face and the neck and then jumps out of the car and runs off police later find the suspect they approach him they wait until he approaches to innocent bystanders and then they all start opening fire hitting both the suspect and the two innocent bystanders stop it the suspect was killed by police one of the innocent bystanders was only hit once was taken to the hospital and released either that night or the next day the other innocent bystander was hit multiple times suffered serious injuries and was in the hospital recovering for over a month the FBI defines a mass shooting as three or more people being shot and killed in a single incident it seems to me the Albuquerque police were trying hard to meet that standard of mass shooting I know it's a bit of a stretch though as I would call the shooting of the suspect Justified he already stabbed one person in the face in the neck and he was approaching two more innocent people I'd say that's a Justified shooting but there's still no excuse for shooting innocent bystanders if you or I ever discharge our firearm we are responsible for every single bullet that leaves that gun anyone and everyone who's had any kind of firearms training knows that you have to be not just aware of your target but everything behind and around your target if you don't have a clean shot you don't take it anyways after shooting a bunch of innocent people the Albuquerque Police approach and start handcuffing the innocent people that they shot let's walk up okay thank you it's not your fault man when Chief Medina was asked if his officers did anything wrong when they shot every single person in sight he said he doesn't know if Governor Grisham thinks it's appropriate to disarm every single person in New Mexico I think she ought to start with the Albuquerque Police Department but that would require the people to recognize that their Safety and Security is their own Duty now if you live in the Albuquerque area you already know that your minimum response time when you dial 9-1-1 is typically going to be about 20 minutes and that's going to be on a priority One Call most people in Albuquerque wait hours or even days to hear from police if they ever hear from them at all which makes it clear that your Safety and Security was always your responsibility but a lot of people have had a misplaced trust in police thinking that they could come and save you when things go wrong and I don't even mean to bash on cops here it's just that logically the police could only keep you safe if each and every one of us had our own police officers present with us 24 7 the way the president of the United States has Secret Service present with him to keep him safe it's an unfair and impossible burden that even police put on themselves trying to say that they will protect the people statistically they're present for less than two percent of crimes which means ninety eight percent of the time you are on your own and that ladies and gentlemen is the facts not the feel good false rhetoric
