[Music] [Music] [Music] hello I'm Steven Timlin I'm a deputy in the flight unit at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office although being able to call the Florida sky my office has its perks there's a lot more to being a flight deputy than sightseeing each shift I'm assigned either the pilot or the tactical flight deputy position as a pilot I navigate the helicopter of course but I'm also responsible for inspecting the aircraft and reviewing its maintenance status before takeoff as a tactical flight deputy I ensure the state-of-the-art high-definition video camera is functioning correctly and I operate it during the flight while flying fast hovering suddenly and abruptly turning 270 degrees all while bumping around and trying to keep the camera properly focused that's no easy task the flight unit assist both Sheriff's Office and outside agency patrol units on the ground with several types of calls including missing persons wanted subjects stolen vehicles suspect tracking and more before I joined the Sheriff's Office three years ago I was a marine patrol officer with Treasure Island Police Department for seven years before that I served in the United States Air Force I grew up in Pinellas County and even after traveling the world with the Air Force I always knew I wanted to one day move back and raise my own family here I'm truly grateful to say that my beautiful wife Erik and I are taking the first steps towards that dream as we are expecting our first child a boy named Oliver in August it is my pleasure to serve you thank you for taking the time to connect with us here on meet the Stars [Music]
