[Music] my name is Ryan Buckley on the captain of patrol operations my name is nicholas bt i am a sergeant into operation assigned to the SRO unit which oversees the explora coast i catch myself reminiscing a lot about when i was an explorer not much has changed with the post and what their activities are they're still shooting they're still doing the competitions they're still riding still going to the jail still soon with a communication center but having been explorer in the past it just it brings that advantage actually sitting in their shoes we meet weekly and during those weekly meetings are essentially training for these competitions so at the meetings we'll do traffic stops or domestic investigation what you do in the scenarios of what you see on the street that's not like watching it on TV that's why you get hooked when you do a ride-along because you're up close and personal even though you're not going to get involved in the dangerous part per se but you're there that's that was a big influence on where there was like no doubt this is what I want to do I've got to get this job and you learn the intricacies of the agency now are you really learning the criminal law and all the things of the deputy no no but you are leaps and bounds ahead of the completely green recruit in today's Explorer posts the greatest difference is the involvement with agency members we now have three or four firearm instructors that are arranged every Sunday with the Explorers we have sometimes four or five deputies at our weekly meetings in addition to just what you're doing internally though there's a command structure to the Explorers as well so some kids work their way up probably don't realize it then actually learning leadership skills so you kind of grew up and it kept you out of trouble too because the more if you do in the Explorers the more you get hooked on what they do the more you don't want to jeopardize that that kind of bold is how you're gonna be for the rest of your life I think most important that we've still looking for law enforcement are people with high morals and ethics and if you're living life appropriately treating people fairly that's what we're looking for and that was kind of ingrained in me as an explorer and that's how I live my life first as explorers and now as deputies it is our pleasure to serve you thank you for taking the time to connect with us appear from the stars you
