you know just so you're aware um certain officers do certain things on on when they they're dispatched out to calls um I just like to ID everybody you know I don't know how these officers are going to and I'm I'm not going to show it to you because you haven't showed me here so Tuesday November 3rd at the New Mexico State ethic Commission in Albuquerque New Mexico the New Mexico State ethics commission is an independent state agency that promotes the Integrity of state government through the interpretation enforcement and Improvement of New Mexico's campaign Finance lobbying procurement and governmental conduct laws a bureaucracy created by New Mexico legislators around 2019 with the intent to hold corrupt government accountable sounds good right executive director Jeremy D Ferris Jeremy has an impressive looking resume including a law degree from Harvard Law School a doctorate and master's degree from the University of Oxford where he was a road scholar a Bachelor of Science from Georgia Institute of Technology and Jeremy is a member of the New Mexico Supreme Court's appellate rules committee but recent court documents accuse him of retaliating against citizens for free speech as it relates to Free Press and political discussion in the court documents he's accused of Hobs act violations in federal litigation the Hobs Act is federal law that prohibits robbery extortion and conspiracy to commit these crimes if they affect Interstate or foreign Commerce it was originally passed to fight racketeering and Labor Management disputes but it's now often used in cases involving public corruption the court documents claim that Jeremy Ferris used his authority as the Director of State ethics commission to threaten Mr aaka if he didn't give him $1,000 and lay down his first amendment rights on September 3rd 2024 I went to the state ethics Commission office to ask some questions about how they conduct their business and to file a complaint myself on Mr Jeremy rather than getting the information I needed and filing my complaint I was bullied by Walker Boyd the attorney for the ethics commission it's 215 down this way yeah okay ethics commission oh actually wanted me to do another 60 records requests so you can submit those via email at your we'll uh we'll be here a while folks this is this is our it's official business it is what it is so I don't we leave this office and it's gr business this gentleman uh doesn't have any real business here as you can see okay and let let me let me clarify you're getting what type of Records uh doing some open records requests we're doing an investigation into the Ethics Committee okay and so I'm uh I've got to do some open records requests to get some information I came in here to try to chat with somebody and kind of just get some information verbally this gentleman came out was rude nasty and that's his right you know he he can be rude and nasty and not answer my questions that is okay but that just makes it that every question I have has to be submitted in a separate IA request right and and that I mean I know it makes it a real pain in the butt it sure does um but I mean like like I said you know he's got the right to just be difficult and that's okay unfortunately it makes it so now I have to spend my entire afternoon feeling out ipper requests for questions he could have just answered and that's okay but that's where we're at right now so I'm just going to do my work the isue is that he doesn't get to use our offices to fill out his record request he can come here to submit the records request if he needs to drop off a request that's fine but what he wants to do is stay here all day and disrupt our work and he's been yelling and shouting at us and it's preventing our us from doing our work okay that's what time are you guys in the office till today we're here till 5: okay so this gentleman doesn't want to leave until 5:00 p.m uh and that's the ISS he's going to keep sitting there writing uh writing into his okay legal pad until until 5:00 P PM I guess at which point we'll have to ask him to leave and have someone him oh I won't I won't stay past closing no I would I am and I tried to be reasonable when I came in and that's you know yeah so this is our office and I've asked him to leave after he's finished conducting his business and he's he's not living so as you can see he's pretty rude he thinks it's his office it's our you know and again it's our office it's mine it's yours it's yours it's all the it's the 800 people watching it's our office right and so he couldn't you know again we are where we are I'm going to fill out my IA requests would would you be willing to put the notepad down and speak with him like you were planning on before instead of having to write it down sure because I mean that could kill x amount of minutes you're not willing to so see here's the issue um we're already getting you know we're getting a number of voicemails from folks he's read our phone number on Oh you mean this one 5058 827 7800 disrup our work try to stop I can actually show you my entire investigation when us to shut up this is this is an office that has been released from un by the state ethics commission is for the use of people the state ethics commission and for folks who have business with the state ethics commission I've invited this gentleman to leave his public records request with us and then conclude his business and leave he's refusing to do so by sitting in the chair and filming instead of completing his records request and leaving it with us if you would like when I am done here I will show you what my investigation is and what it's about and I I I can assure you it's very legitimate I don't it's not that I don't think it is it's just the fact that um I we weren't here before all the chaos had happened there was really no chaos it was just that he was told shh cuz he kept interrupting me and he's never been told by anyone anything he bosses people around he's not being used he's not used to being told sh sh when he keeps interrupting people right it's sh sh shut up see so he's not used to he's used to talking to other people like see he keeps interrupting and so that's kind of what happened before you got here is that I would let him talk like he just did and then every time I would try to speak he would be rude and nasty and so I you know I have a three-year-old that sometimes does that and so what do we do you know when you act like a three-year-old we have to shush them and so so anyways we are where we are it's it's not a big deal I know he wants to escalate something and make a big deal out of something but there's nothing sir I'm just trying to ask you to leave I'm asking you to finish your business and there he goes again interrupting you know and and so um I've been here he's been hiding in his office for the last 20 minutes while the security guard's been sitting here with me nothing's even been said you know he's trying to make a deal to try to make it so that he can was the security guard pres when the when I was shushing him and telling him to shut up yes I can go have a chat with him um how how long does a formal request take is it a paper or what's going on here is that he's he's deliberately taking time to finish his request so that he doesn't have to leave okay but you don't have a form or anything have a we and we have an email address that you can also submit requests would you like a form I'd rather do it in person and as per New Mexico state law I can do that and so I know that he can submit a request okay which you can't get a word in without this guy just jumping over the top you he can't use our office as his own personal office to write down his own requests during our whole our whole day and like I said we have to conduct we have to move to other business we have there are other employees here trying to get work done we can't get it done with him here yelling at us and and filming us and and trying to get back behind this desk well did that happen conduct his his quote unquote investigation throughout our office did that happen did I try to go past that desk I had to instruct the security guard to not let you did I try to go past that desk yes you did when when you enter the office that's why you record everything because people like you lie M and that's why everything has to be recorded that's why we walk in when we're just trying to do a simple thing with our government that's why we have to have a camera on cuz you lie about the most Petty ridicul and and the thing is I could go past there there's no sign that says I can't there's no sign that says it's a restricted area but I didn't ordered I try to you know there's a door this door is locked yeah I'll just guys I don't even need to say anything to anyone so I can okay um I know he wants to make it a thing but I can just shut up and sit here quietly cool yeah if if you need time to fill out your request um uh feel free to go ahead and fill out your request we're going to try and figure out kind of a medium so that everything can work out for everybody you would to fill up these requests well I'll just do the three how about that and and and then maybe uh you know we'll figure out what to do in the future um because I mean people need to be able to walk in here and conduct their business and it cannot arbitrarily be up to them that oh your business is to expose me for my crimes I'm calling the police get out right that's definitely um so I mean it's like really it's like if I were to come into your Police Department to file a complaint against him and oh that's what you're here for well then get out right it's really the same they know I'm it's just the UNM policy you know that that we have we're a little different than APD and State Police well you know when it comes to property policy it is a policy it is a policy policies aren't laws right they don't shop laws they don't but n the only caveat that comes along with that is with UNM policy um there also are UNM sanctions and the sanctions are separate of state law um so like if let's say if there was a violation of UNM policy then it could very well be that you may be susceptible to a UNM sanction like a campus white ban um which would have to go through the Dina students and everything else um but I think that we're pretty square right now I think that you know you gave me your your your name um so it's kind of a constitution free zone it's not a constitution free zone um it's just the UNM visitors policy that any person who uh upon request of an officer or uh official of the University while they're on campus on the UNM campus um they are theoretically required to provide that identification but just for being on campus and I'm on campus right now this is UNM campus and we have a state ethics board who is on campus where people should be able to walk in on a daily basis who have nothing to do with UNM right there's several government entities that occupy um you see the conflict there though it it's it's pretty confusing even to me it's pretty confusing I it's not confusing if we always stand on the Constitution though and realize that there are no con tion free zones it doesn't exist so yeah and you know that's why I think that we're on a pretty Square ground right now as it is um I I have your name you have my name and um this like I had mentioned earlier if you want to just work on those I think we're pretty good we can just go from there yeah sounds good to me if anybody wants state ID too I am I am willing to trade anybody State IDs um it'll be shown on the live stream too though just so you know you guys want to yeah go grab
