a Pinellas County deputy does not consider himself a hero but after saving a man's life others might disagree newsChannel 8's Mary McGuire shows us the life-or-death situation that he faced this week it was a combination of quick thinking and training that helped deputy Matthew Davidson save a man's life at this 7-eleven in Clearwater oh thank heaven for deputy Davidson as I approached him he was able to mumble to me that he was choking on a piece of chicken while out on patrol Monday night Davidson stopped to write a report in the parking lot of this 7-eleven in Clearwater when a store clerk burst out of its front doors gasping for air from there his actions became instinct you know when all else fails you resort resort back to your training and I think that's what happened i just you know it happened so quick but this selfless act doesn't come as a surprise for those who work alongside him each and every day he does enjoy his job and he comes here and works hard that's a good example for these people as charismatic about the work that he does and the people at here in working in law enforcement has a greater meeting for this three-year veteran of the sheriff's office who tells us he was just doing his job I didn't want to be the guy that just sits behind a desk and pushes paperwork I wanted to go out there make a difference in the community if you can make a difference in one person's life or possibly saved her life no matter how much trust we go through it's absolutely worth it deputy Davidson has been with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office since 2012 reporting in Clearwater I marry me News Channel 8 News Channel a reached out to rusty green the store clerk who was saved we did not hear a response back yet Davidson tells us he was very grateful at the time
