[Music] it was it was interesting being the first thing I'll uh put it that way the guys didn't really know what to do with me you know we carried a lot of equipment and all and the guys were helping me with carry my equipment they were open the doors for me when i was around they were watching their language chivalry was not dead back then they wanted to make sure that you were okay and as a female that's what their they were bred to do is to protect I I'd never experienced any discrimination that i know of just more i guess you could say protectiveness well I knew that the mail deputies that I worked where they were they were kind but I knew they were apprehensive about does she have my back when when she's my backup and stuff like that it didn't feel distrust but it was always I always felt to myself but I had to prove that I could do the same job everybody else could do there were you know talk that they had to give me the job because I was a female that there were better applicants than me so I had to really and the first six months really proved myself and I knew what I was doing [Music] you walk in somewhere with a white shirt and a gun and you're a woman people tended to take notice and we used to go into bar fights and people would just stop fighting because they'd never seen it lady cop before i went to a domestic call on the woman answered the door she goes oh great they sent a woman and I excuse me I you asked for a deputy you needed a male and she goes no there's just a woman beater back there and I said okay we'll take care of it you know so fortunately in those situations always had supervisors who back me up and say you know you want to cop this is the cop deal with it or don't call time kind of less than that skepticism after a while [Music] you
