In June of 2023, officer Starns with the Jonesboro Police Department pulls over Christian allegedly for having a burned out brake light. Matthews and Freeman. I sped up the video to times 5 while officer Starns speaks with Christian for about a minute and a half. Starns later told other officers that he was asking Christian to search his vehicle and found it strange that Christian wouldn't allow him to. So he made Christian wait there while he called other officers to back him up. [Music] Nobody. So, this is a hydro traffic area. So, what I'm going to do is I'm just going to run dog vehicle and uh if it doesn't hit out here. Is there anything in your vehicle? I'm just going to walk I'm going to drop the wall. I get it, man. I get it, man. That's all I'm trying to prove, man. Trying to prove your exact statement. Okay. Is there anything on you? Come on. We search real quick. Okay. Yes. Yes. around. These are some slick condors. Where'd you get those shoes? It's like this never happened the negative on my previous I saw that spray. Yeah. What' you say you got for free? It's just a hot drug area. So you we do this almost every car stop. I know you have never met you. We're going to help you out here in a second. What' you say? Hot tops. What's your first name? Christian. Good to meet you. K9 unit arrives and walks the dog around the car. I found at least a half a dozen studies on the accuracy of drug sniffing dogs. One study from 2014 says they're accurate 87.7% of the time. Reason magazine did a story on a drug dog named Cella in Florida that hit on 100% of the vehicles that she sniffed, but only 53% of them had drugs in them. In 2011, NPR News reported that drug sniffing dogs were accurate somewhere between 27 and 44% of the time. What does that even mean? Because the average of 27 and 44 is 35.5. Criminal Legal News reports that dogs gave false alerts 71% of the time. Attorneys Brown, White, and Osborne found that dogs gave false alerts 40.5% of the time. These numbers are so all over the place that for me personally, the conclusion is it's a crapshoot. According to the handler, the dog does not hit on Christian's car. If the dog did, I'm sure that in court, Christian would call the dog to the stand to testify of what he smelled. You step back if you want to rule. Thank you. I appreciate your breakfast. probably because he's given a verbal warning for the tail light and a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. After being pulled over a few more times over the next year and a half to two years, he starts to claim that the Jonesboro Police Department is harassing him. And watching this dash cam footage alone and then finding out the reason for this traffic stop makes it hard for me to disagree. The dash cam footage starts as the cop is turning left behind Christian as he's delivering pizzas. But if you notice, there's another cop car on the inside left that turns into oncoming traffic lanes. Then he moves over and hits his brakes to pace Christian. To me, it looks like they've already targeted this vehicle and they're going to pull him over. Notice when he engages his turn signal cuz the cops claim the reason for the stop is not signaling within 100 ft of his turn. It looks like at least 200 ft to me, but what do I know? I can't even read and comprehend Texas Penal Code 3802 properly. But let's just say for the sake of argument that the cops are right. Christian only signaled 10 feet before his turn. For this alleged heinous crime, within 60 seconds, he's surrounded by three police officers. We pulling into Papa John's, Arkansas boy Adam Young 65 ton Bau 65T gold color Sportage. Yeah. What's up? So you say I can bond out tonight? Yeah. It's got a $10,000 bond on it. Pay 10% of that $1,000 plus the bondsman fee, which is like 150 usually, give or take. Looks like one uh one of the no contacts is against the city of Jonesboro. Saying what? Looks like one of your no contact orders you're going to have against you is against the city of Jonesboro. What is a no contact? It means you can't contact them or you get arrested for violating the no contact order. No contact. Yeah. What is that? It means you It means no contact. No contact with who? The city of Jonesboro. The city of Jonesboro. What does that even mean? I get maybe a police department, I guess. I'm not sure. How can you have a no contact with a police department, man? You can get it with any kind of individual business. You can be told not to no contact anybody. I've been told not to contact the Jonesboro Police Department. I said it could be. It says city of Jonesboro. Uh, it looks like dude named Bruce Wright. You know him? Say what? You know a guy named Bruce Wright? No, I do not know a guy named Bruce Wright. Who was that? Might be a police officer. I don't know. Steve McDaniel. Who? Steve McDaniel. Who are these people? People you're not going to be able to contact. Mike Hart, David Stout, Luke Lane, Michael Bush, Trevor Doper. Any of those ring a bell? They should. I've never contacted any of these people. Like I said, it's not ours, it's theirs. So, when you say a no contact, what do you mean like physical contact? Like calling, texting, showing up at their place of work, showing up at their house, messaging, emailing, stuff like that, having somebody else contact them for you. Department is is a is a is a government business. So, it's the individuals that work for the police department, it looks like, but I've never contacted them. Like I said, it's that's something between you and your lawyer is going to have to figure out. I can't pull up the incident report and look up everything, but underneath the harassment statue, it's got February 25th, 26th time frame.
