What are some of the things that have been implemented to make our school safer? >> Let let me kind of describe it this way is the first thing that everybody wants that you can never have is prevention. It's going to happen again. It's a hard thing to say, but it's going to happen again. The question is when and where. So, what you want to do is have the right resources in place to stop the aggression, to stop the shooting as quick as it starts. You have to stop an armed person with an armed person. So, one of the things that Florida did is to make sure that there's an armed person on every school campus. The other thing that you want to make sure is is that you have as many speed bumps in place as possible again to try and mitigate the harm. Um, as Stoman Douglas as an example, they had huge campus, 14 buildings, 45 acres, 2500 kids, is that they had the whole campus was fenced, but they had gates, but the gates were left open. So, if you're gonna have a fence and you're gonna have gates, but they're open. And then the guy that was sitting there that watched the shooter get out of the car and walk through the gates carrying the rifle bag and he knew it was a rifle bag. He had no communication device. So, you have to identify the threat, communicate the threat, and then be able to react to it. So, I can see it all day long, but if I can't communicate it, then nobody can react to it. But if I have a communication device and I've identified it, I can identify it. I can communicate it. But if I don't know what to do, you don't know. I can tell you, hey Ashley, we got an active shooter here. And you're like, and and at Stolman Douglas, there had not been one active shooter drill on that campus in the entire year before the shooting in February of 2018, 19 years after Coline. That school district had no active shooter response policy. How? Every school district has to have an active asalent response policy. Every school district has to have um physical sight security. We have what we call the FSSAT which is the Florida safe school assessment tool. It's a huge document. All the schools are assessed. You have to have locked classroom doors. You have to have locked hallways. You have to have safe areas in the classrooms. You have to have communication devices. You have to have so there's really a plethora of things. But at its core, where we began was putting those things in place that are going to mitigate the harm. So that was the physical site security and then it kind of evolved uh into the last thing that we did uh was to make sure we got it right which is the threat management which is the prevention because prevention is the goal but it's the hardest thing to accomplish and prevention is not always going to stop it. So again you can't do it. So, you want to make sure you you focus on some of the other hard things before you get there.
