in Newton Iowa police chief Rob burdes forcefully removed a citizen from a public meeting during his three minutes of public comment for criticizing the police but before showing you that it's important to give you the background to everything that's in play here for those who don't already know October is domestic violence Awareness Month October is domestic violence Awareness Month remember domestic violence can one and any please reach out to your local police department remember love shouldn't hurt statistically about 40 percent of police officers are reported to be domestic abusers and that's just based on the cases that are actually reported and documented keep in mind that when domestic violence is reported it's reported to the police and cops cover for cops another element to this background that's important is that for those who don't remember Newton Iowa police were just recently highlighted for their bad behavior when officer Winters arrested a 19 year old for DUI after the young man blew a 0.00 on the breathalyzer test during an independent investigation into the incident it was discovered that officer Winters the officer pictured here in a uniform two sizes too small the arresting officer was accused of domestic violence but that the details surrounding the incident reeked of a cover-up Winters was never actually charged or convicted of domestic violence as some reports said but there is a no contact order with his ex-girlfriend the order states that Winters is restrained from quote committing any further acts of abuse or threats of abuse against his ex-girlfriend the language in the order makes it appear that his ex-girlfriend alleges that he abused her but that in lieu of criminal charges officer Winter's buddies at the PD possibly bullied the victim into not pursuing criminal charges that could end Winter's career as long as he agreed to stop beating the [ __ ] out of her I'm not saying for sure that's what happened but it's certainly suspicious that the order clearly states that he previously abused his ex but that he wasn't criminally charged for it the mayor of Newton Iowa has consistently claimed that officer Winters did nothing wrong the night that he arrested a sober man and even shames the Young man for not licking the officer's boot harder he also consistently defended officer Winters the accused domestic abuser with a protection order on him from his ex the mayor has spoken out publicly multiple times in Winter's favor claiming that he has never been charged or convicted of domestic violence and the mayor is right there was clearly a police cover-up that protected Winters from prosecution how could he possibly be convicted when his fellow officers made sure that he was never even charged and the mayor shuts down anyone who tries to speak on the topic so now we come back to the city hall meeting October 3rd beginning of domestic violence awareness month during public comment at which time citizens have three minutes to speak on any topic that pertains to the city a man by the name of Noah Peterson began speaking criticizing the Newton Police Department for supporting domestic abuse he never mentions any officers by names though Mayor Michael Hansen immediately stops Peterson and orders him to stop criticizing government or he will be forcefully removed from the meeting by government Peterson refuses to relinquish his three minutes to criticize government and is subsequently arrested by Chief Rob burdes and charged with disorderly conduct ORS about the government yes and I have three amendments to give the government okay I'm not leaving until I'm a few minutes up the first one rights go ahead foreign the unconstitutional written policy actually even states that one can not criticize their government during public comment specifically it states that comments and or questions shall not include derogatory statements or comments about any individual the Oxford language dictionary defines derogatory as showing a critical or disrespectful attitude so quite literally being derogatory is defined as criticizing and Government is made up of real people doing real bad things therefore to criticize government is to criticize the individuals who make up government Newton Iowa's written policies quite literally say that you cannot criticize your government and on October 3rd Mayor Michael Hansen and chief Rob burdes made it perfectly clear that they will enforce these unconstitutional policies Peterson was charged with disorderly conduct for criticizing his government in a peaceful manner during his allotted time to speak here is the entirety of Peterson's speech that the mayor in Chief would not allow him to give I'm not publishing his comment here because I personally believe in everything that he said after all taxation is theft I'm publishing it because he had every right to make this comment in full at that public meeting and he never should have been silenced whether any of us agree or disagree with this comment in part or in full nobody has a right to use violence to stop him from making this comment we're seeing more and more people show up to public meetings both City Council meetings school board meetings and many others to express their views and ideas participating in the Democratic process as they're supposed to do right people showing up speaking their mind and actually participating in the process makes it more and more clear that government doesn't actually want you to participate they want you to sit down shut up and do what you're told the truth is we do not live in a republic where individual rights are protected and guaranteed by a constitution but the more people stand up and speak their mind the more clear it becomes that we don't live in a democracy either which is where the mob the majority gets to rule the minority we live in a system where there are a small handful of rulers and a lot of
