explain to me how you show the mercy I was I was like think about shooting him but I didn't want to do it so yeah I was gonna walk down down the hallway and did you end up shooting him yeah because he gave me nicer look and they were about to run this video shows the Parkland shooter Nicholas Cruz being questioned by a psychiatrist on February 14 2018 19 year old Nicholas Cruz opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida killing 17 people Cruz was a former student who meticulously planned the attack beforehand once he entered the building and began firing he either pulled a fire alarm or went off from the smoke from his gun this caused confusion because there had already been a fire drill that day students were unable to seek shelter at hard Corners areas of a classroom that people could safely hide at if a gunman peered through the window or a door because many of the classrooms in building 12 lacked one and furniture otherwise obstructed potential safe places as the shooting unfolded a code red was still not called due to confusion among School Employees over who had the authority to do so about 2 21 PM a staff member eventually activated a lockdown after discovering the body of one of the students and hearing continued gunfire afterwards Crews managed to blend in with the fleeing students and escaped on foot eluding the police for an hour before he was caught describe to me what if someone knew nothing about guns how would you explain to them about an AR-15 is an AR-15 is a long rifle and it's used as a sporting rifle uh it shoots in semi-automatic uh fire and then there's a fully automatic fire a fully automatic fire is only meant for the military uh no legal person is allowed to get unless they have a firearms license or something like that all right and so again what's the difference between you know for a complete novice between a semi-automatic and a full automatic uh fully automatic continuous fire okay we have uh semi-automatic is single fire so every time you pull the trigger you only pull once okay so does that mean you have to pull for each time you fire it or is it do it on it on its own so like that well and fully automatically just hold on to that phone cost until the rounds are completely empty okay okay all filled so before you do that I'm just going to check your reading okay a little bit do you like reading yeah okay and so uh I want to ask you to read out a few things up out loud and I just want to make sure you can read all these questions okay all right so I'm just checking out your reading so let's see I don't know if you like uh African animals or anything like that but this is something I like it this is a book on let's see if I can find one that might be interesting to you anything really you like do you like reading or do you like animals or what's I like animals okay let's do this one I just want to have you read out a little bit for me here we go yeah uh you might need your glasses because you need to take off my mask or anything no okay so just start I kind of here read the first couple of paragraphs for me I got it indeed when it comes to the question of which land animal is fasted the cheetah wins Paws down it relies on its record setting speed to chase down prey unlike other cast of cheetah usually hunts during the day cat does its best to get within 150 feet of this potential of prey Which is less than half the length of American football field and then quickly rubs up to a Sprint if the cheetah succeeds in bringing down this target it clamps his Jaws down on the animal store cutting it off it's Air Supply before digging in the cat usually moves its meal to an area by a tree yeah I just want to make sure uh that if I gave you this question here you could read all the questions I'm confident you can so I think 10th partially attended you're right okay so you went there and how big how many people were in your class sorry crows is animated as he answers questions about guns clearly a subject he is passionate about Dr Charles Scott tests cruises reading comprehension to make sure he will be able to understand and answer the questions he will be asked before we continue with the case I wanted to let you know that right now is the best time to get anything from my merch shop in preparation for the holidays whether it's a gift for a loved one a friend or just for yourself because you deserve it strangerlabel.com has everything that you're looking for we've got hoodies t-shirts beanies socks and even mugs plus almost every item in the shop was designed by me so head on to strangerlabel.com and use the code strange holidays to get 15 off your entire order and don't forget you can leave me a short message once you check out I'll be reading your messages at the holiday dinner table so expectations are high and with that said let's get back into the case pretty people at a time 30 per class and the future in charge you see in the morning uh so we have different names for Mooring sessions than jrdc uh the morning session I was in first year was really short there was not that many kids so we had a chance to speak get to know one another build up our confidence with each other okay so was your JROTC was that your first class of the day yeah and that's when you went and I just want to make sure I got the years right because you left their uh roughly when you were you hadn't quite finished the 11th grade is that right yeah I think so yeah and then I was doing a really long class in the JROTC so let's talk about that who was your teacher uh John demaro okay and I've never been in a sergeant John tomorrow uh in a JROTC class so tell me what happens in the JROTC class jrtc is represent it's uh the short-term definition of drtc is Junior officer training corpse okay I supposed to make you ready for to go in the military because that's what I wanted I wanted to seek a military career in uh in the K-9 unit if not canine unit done Army Ranger school so I was trying to learn everything I can about the military uh-huh so first step was to go into GRTC uh take a class on Marksmanship because I wanted to experience that just to get an idea of what it's like and uh I learned a lot okay tell me what you learned about markmanship I learned how to shoot it down I learned how to uh zero in a rifle what is zero gonna rifle mean I don't know what that means it means to shoot that Center or shoot on impact or you want to shoot your target like see that bottle yeah if you wanted to shoot the top of that it's supposed to zero in so you keep shooting it until you're able to okay what type of training gun or whatever did they yeah we didn't do any anything that you see on TV no no uh what we did was so we sat on a platform like a little like green thing and then we set up a rifle so we found it was like close things are on our arms and we had some sort of uh air um pellet gun which I think function on co2 uh gas so we had cylinders in it so uh we pull back the thing and then you're supposed to put anything that was supposed to go and then you look and it's supposed to hit the target about 10 meters so we set up these like targets 10 meters and there's Chrome and yelling and then standing okay three different three different positions you have to learn great this is yeah and that particular uh how did they how did they determine if you were a good or not you have to shoot a Target at 10 meters the size of a diamond recorder okay it actually decreased in size over years I don't know if it's I heard it's Penny now okay so uh overall how did you do as a mark in that class or in that JROTC were you yeah I was in the top one I was probably the fourth two no the third or fourth one from being talking with class okay the females are a lot better at shooting than men and that's because they're just about shares okay even the Marines did their own study on that is true performance okay and so uh anything else you learned in that class uh learned leadership skills I learned uh give me some examples some leadership skills uh whenever someone's in need you're supposed to go up to them and make sure they're all right uh some of the word to challenge him and fight you're supposed to walk away from it uh if you're marching and someone falls down you're supposed to help them up and if someone's having issues with some sort of class you're supposed to help them out okay I'll just stick up for one of the last one okay so tell me about that you mentioned that earlier this morning so in order to go into military and get a good job in the military you have to score a high on the ASVAB first Yes Papa said crazy test tell me about some of the questions and what it was like best you remember uh here okay let me take out this piece of paper I've never taken them it's crazy tough so give me some examples I didn't even do it [Music] try and come up with a question I could foreign the most disturbing thing so far is the fact that Cruz sounds like any other teenager talking about his plans for the future there's nothing in his body language or voice that would tell anyone he had committed such a horrific Act foreign really tough questions let me see what you wrote here uh those are just a small examples it gets really really complicated and tough so what is a H2O molecule what's this right here well it's H2 what is the eight what is a H2O molecule of water of Water and what would your answer be to something like that uh hydrogen and what was the other one helium I believe okay and then what does it say uh who was Josephine during the French Revolution and what's the answer to that uh it was in Napoleon's ex-wife and the and then this last one oh what's the square root of 256 and what's the answer to that I don't know okay made up but would these be questions uh are these exact questions from that test or just similar to what those are simple questions I I can't put in like okay it gets really complicated so did you ever take any kind of psychology or psychology oh yeah I did take psychology I actually score pretty well okay and I pass a test too okay and that was at the Dave Thomas campus oh CRC oclc yeah and so oh yes I actually passed any okay what kind of things do they teach in the psychology class well they didn't teach anything it was just basically they were we were just doing things on computer yeah what sound what kind of topics on the computer were there um people with mental health uh past tests such as the one where they practice this test on prisoners and guards so basically what happened was there was this test back in I think the 80s or 60s and they had like a bunch of uh a bunch of inmates become security guards and security guards becoming inmates and it didn't turn out well actually uh the security guards turn against inmates and treat them horribly which came up with a theory that if you put someone in a situation and under certain circumstances they'll abuse that power yeah it's a famous study actually yeah and um any uh time where someone might have thought you were carbon like a swash stick on a table or something like that my friends told me to do that and they did it as well and they did that for attention and anything that I approved swastika or said nasty remarks about the race or gender quality or anything like that it was all for attention okay in that magazine I'm sure you know about it I was like I had a magazine that's a swastika on it for my AR no I didn't write that at all where'd that come from Jameson Todd home asked me if he wanted to uh crosswalk on it and so I said sure okay so he didn't think any of it so he drew this plastic on the magazine we were just chilling out he said it's cool if I cross cross client Madness sure and was that magazine used on the day of the offense yeah okay was it left there like at the ground at the scene I only saw you okay and then I hadn't and then someone told me I had a swastika on my on my my boot I did do that but that was for attention okay where'd you put this plastic on the boot uh probably a month before half a month before okay and what kind of attention can you get from having a spa sticker on you uh negative or positive uh it can be you can get away because the swastika was used Native American as a PC in both and then when the Germans uh so I guess they took it up themselves and they made it to a symbolic symbol which was really stupid because it was a Native American piece but when you would put on your shoe for attention what was what which which of those two was it most likely to kind of connect to or represent mostly peace okay and any other uh counseling that you can remember you talked about Jared yeah there there's like a woman that want to begin to chest there's and she also wanted me to try to punch pillows saved out a couple relieve any stress right uh there was also and did you end up playing chess no yeah are you uh can you play yes it was in my interest I I didn't even play it right I've only learned that I was playing wrong throughout my years okay Cruz is desperate for attention and does not care whether it is positive or negative he makes these statements almost dismissively showing that he does not care about the possible impact of his actions his tone of voice is the same as his subsequent answers about Chess and can you play chess now not very good at it uh what are uh tell me what you remember about some of the different names of the chess pieces what are some of the names oh we got the Rook we got the king the queen uh the knights oh the other one uh I forgot um Bishop okay and the pawns okay that sounds like all of them and uh and they can they do they move in different ways yeah they move in different ways okay nightgos diet like you know like L form okay the King goes pretty much anywhere going one spot at a time the queen can go anywhere on the chessboard I think the bishop goes sideways and then the Rooks just go up or left and right okay I think that's about it uh do they allow you to play chess in here at all yeah and who do you get to play chess with uh my uh my sight doctor okay and uh are you able to uh how do you do terrible terrible I think he's cheating someone how do you mean huh I always just says his Queen he always resists what does that mean I don't play chess so so the queen is probably the most powerful piece on board so you use that a lot and he always gets me with it okay and then we play Uno and I usually crack up jokes all of them it's pretty fun okay and which doctor is this what's his name Dr k how do you spell last name uh okay you said yeah I call him Dr K I don't I can't pronounce his full name okay is he a treatment doctor here yeah and so you shared with me that you had this thought about shooting up the school uh for a very long time uh when did it first we talked about this earlier this morning but when the idea first popped in your mind or you first think about it 14 13. age 13 or 14. and what was it at age 13 to 14 again that this thought about came up was it when you were reading the books yeah reading books yeah and uh did it ever go away or did it kind of come and go I'll come and go uh pop up in my mind one time and I just disappeared for the next but seemed to make it come and what seemed to make it good when I saw a lot of my videos on YouTube okay what kind of violent videos did you see more videos hearing more videos and did that make it more go up and we'll go down okay and then I watched documentaries okay what kind of documentaries uh kind of my Massacre documentary I think was 42 hours or something uh there's another one same thing above a vegetan tech with Virginia Tech and there was one on Elliot Rogers do you remember if you ever kind of searched out on the internet waste to to do a school shooting yet I did my own research yeah tell me what research you did I looked up on Wikipedia I studied Mass murderers and how they did it like a plan and what they got and what they used and what did you learn from that kind of study I learned that the Columbine shooters they had three guns that they used they use high point 9995 regular a double barrel shotgun cut down pistol grip uh there's another shotgun and then use the tech nine I learned that from there I learned the Virginia Tech shooter he had a typical vest and he had two pistols a clock nines I think I can't remember I don't remember what brand he went to the gun range and he cited him in okay and I learned about Aurora Borealis A guy uses Smith West mp15 score too and how I know he used it he doesn't even say on Wikipedia But it actually shows the brand on on police documents okay and so you could figure it you figured that out what he used yeah and when you said Aurora Borealis uh movie theater shooting in Colorado yeah yeah all right and were there any lessons you learned I mean those are sort of the facts that they did did you learn anything from Reading those facts oh yeah they washed your Corners uh they kept the distance away from people and they went in fast as possible okay and the police didn't do anything and what did all that mean to you as far as what you're thinking about my thinking is if I do go on school campus the police are not going to do anything and I have a small opportunity to shoot people for maybe uh 20 minutes so I'm talking about with all of the documentaries and news coverage available on mass shootings Crews had a wealth of information at his fingertips to help him in his planning so many details were given that it actually enabled him to cause more Devastation that would have been possible otherwise the days leading up to the school shooting you took your time I already had the magazines I had all the ammunition it was just there so it was already there it was already there I just didn't have anything to do with it so nothing special you had to go out and buy a couple days before huh okay you already had it or yeah it's just the ammunition that you didn't have so okay and so one thing is you got you had this vest and you put the ammo in what else did you do um I put the gun and uh in one of the safety bags gun bags yeah tell me what a safety bag looks like it kind of looks like that right there okay see that red one yeah yeah where'd you put the gun in the safety bag the night prior right after I practice a little bit decided in yeah and where'd you go to practice again you told me yeah like trying to Imagine The Recoil yeah that's right that was at this needs house another place outside who could do that yeah and you you said you figuring out the recall yeah recall uh frequent coil okay and so the night before the gun went into the the bag and did anything else go into that bag that there was like a gun bag what else that's it that's it just the gun and whatever was on again and what was on the gun um a grip technical group what's that it's like I can draw it okay and then give me a pen again I'm going to show you yeah just tell me about what a technical break is so I had a rail system on it so kind different and you can put a tactical grip on it it's just a grip so you basically screw it into the gun what's the point of having a favorite study okay and then same thing with the iPod five kind of look like that a little bit all right but do you you didn't use a bipod did you that was already on yeah okay and so I think yeah yeah that's about it that was all good oh and um what was it the sling okay so what's the you can't be that bad was the Tactical grip already on the gun or did you put it on the night before or I was already on there for a while for a while and the sling was on the road yeah so I just recently put on the back odd okay and so when you had this the bipod was actually on the gun when you put it into the gum bag yeah okay and so that's the night before about what time of night are we talking about uh well early morning really yeah it might have it might have even I didn't get any sleep okay so this is on February the 14th early morning eight or nine eight or nine in the morning no eight or nine all of us no it was five five thirty five thirty and I signed it in at around 12 o'clock in the night the night before like on the 13th right midnight tell me what sight it in means again sighting in yes siding in what does that mean get the bull On Target uh where you want to shoot at okay but I have to look at the rear front side and put the laser on top how long does it take to do that can I try sure just don't try to understand yeah I'm trying to make you understand yeah so there's like this this is a front sight this is what it looks like on the air so this is a rear sight circle thing and this is a front sight okay and you want to put the laser just a little bit right above it that's your point of aim and so this is what it kind of looks like when you're shooting a Target I like that okay how does that laser how does the site how does that help you in your shooting uh so when it in when it's in the gun it's stabilized okay so wherever uh however the right that goes is a funny thing because that's where the bullet is going to come out okay out of the gun and that's how you say it again all right it doesn't give it does it help in any way with the shooting uh yeah so right after you take it out I put a balloon and I actually fire see if it actually shoots on at where you just sight in to Target what the red Davos and there you go okay all right all right so that was deciding how long does it take you to do the siding the night before you told me earlier yeah I think it was about like 30 30 minutes about 30 minutes 30 minutes to an hour okay the night before you're out you got the Sneads uh uh you're in the their backyard for 30 minutes to an hour with the AR-15 you come back what are you even wearing the night before do you remember what you were wearing the night before my junior if you see a polo shirt and uh khaki pants yeah why are you wearing your jrtc polo shirt to disguise myself if I do go in okay Cruz answers the questions almost eagerly and it confirms his earlier claims that he is motivated by attention if I had all that beer on her I would have called cops and holding that and then you're wearing khakis yeah and we were in the same thing the night before you were in the day off or did you change clothes or change clothes I was wearing before The Daily Show I was wearing a sweater um my camouflage shirt uh my beanie this is the night before yeah like I told you I used to cover myself yeah I did yeah so when did you put on the jrtc polo shirt um probably around 12 o'clock in the night after I decided my rifle okay and again you put on that shirt because uh to disguise myself so I don't draw attention Okay is is it I mean you hadn't been there in a year or so but is that kind of the the same shirt they have for the most part you think almost every kid in jrc had that shirt okay where'd you sit in the car the back seat okay and I told her dad I had a I was at uh musical instruments I was in the orchestra okay and how come you did that uh to so I can uh get away with uh particularly getting my guns in the car and going to the school and what did she say to that uh she said okay once you get to school uh what's your next step walk through the gates hopefully there's no security guards which I was wrong so what I haven't been to that school so are there lots of Gates or how do you get it how do you get to it uh three eight okay and so where'd they drop you off it's hungry front gate and so your is your backpack like sometimes you can wear a backpack like slump on your shoulders that was in front I think I was working in the front okay yes yeah and then what were you doing with the uh the gun safe bag I was walking okay and you're south of Hamburg Road okay you're walking with it you have the backpack kind of on one side and then what happened I went through the gates oh there was a guy watching you yeah was it that was it that I saw him radio and I said oh [ __ ] so I guess ran into the building and I told a kid to get out of here I don't remember what I exactly said though I said something was the guy that you know that you know you saw radio Wang and you said oh [ __ ] I'm screwed was it like remember we were talking about some other security guy was that that same guy not a totally different one totally different and so what did you think when you saw him talking on the radio what do you think that was about I thought he was gonna I think he called Scott Peterson okay and what would that mean if he did oh it's cause piercings it's coming okay what would that mean for your your plan that day uh to uh shoot um so how did you get to McDonald's I walked there's a long ways yeah from the Walmart that's how long do you think so from the school to Walmart is about 100 yards and then how far is it an angle left down the road probably another 600 yards 600 yards for the McDonald's and did you get anything to eat at the McDonald's I thought about it and do you know if you got anything are you hungry especially probably went enough huh uh and uh what happened at the McDonald's I talked to this kid told me his uh sister was at stomach still okay and did you have any conversation about like did he ask you who are you or to ask you anything about it I asked him if I could have him lift I needed to go to work or something like that and he said he couldn't do it he had a soccer game with his sister a sad story as his sister died in the building okay do you notice for her his first name now uh you've taught me some different examples of things you've done to uh uh animals different animals when was the very first time you can remember ever doing something that people might look at and say that's not very kind to an animal with a rock and how old were you uh three okay and how come you did what do you remember about doing that something me my brother did we went around killing losers okay sometimes I set him on fire okay the lizards when you start uh scanning Elizabeth alive uh I just tip him to the to the little like table and I took a knife and I just okay I will be the first time you did that do you think fourth okay and then uh what about setting them on fire how would you do that take a lighter how would they react earnestly are they running so do they make any movement or sound or anything they start curling up okay just fall over so that's a three uh four okay tell me what happened next what Dr Scott asks Cruz if there were any incidents during his childhood where he harmed animals this type of abuse is often found in those with anti-social disorders and often escalates into violence against people to the next kind of progression I got um bird eggs bird eggs what'd you do with bird eggs I took them out of the nest and I threw them against the wall how come because I was born I wouldn't let me out of the house okay what did you think was gonna happen to the egg if you did that oh crack okay and how old are you with that uh seven okay and and then what else what happened next see um I set uh spiders on fire okay how old are you with that oh those banana spiders you know those people ones are those really big yeah okay I said I'm on fire with sunflower with a spray pan what kind of books are you reading now I have a book of maps I'm trying to figure out what's happening in Ukraine they're attacking on four sides they're Russians yeah and so it sounds like you're able to get some news while you're in here terrible news yeah and so you have a map and you're and you even sort of heard on the news about you're getting close to the capital of Ukraine yeah tell me what you've learned on the news about what's happening well so far I heard that uh Putin uh order a missile strike near the capitol okay can I kill 10 people okay anything else you've learned I learned that uh to un and uh all the other countries are afraid that they push cut Putin and back corny my release nuclear weapons okay and from what you've learned about your history and uh you know this map vote I actually know a lot about him actually uh Hayden Judo he had trouble in school this is Putin we're talking about yeah he actually told the defense cast that he couldn't go into the KTV they had they had to find him he couldn't find them like he had to go through this whole process in order to go there yeah how did you how did you learn all this uh they had a book on a book cardigan oh okay another book right here yeah his his father served in World War II uh before that he had a grandfather starting in World War One um all right Godfather I don't know I can't remember um his mother uh lived in St Petersburg Russia uh when the war came his father almost got captured he managed to escape and make it back to the borderline with Russia but Solomon ordered him to go back to the front line so that's what he did he got injured and then he worked on the farm for the rest of his life until he gave his mother gave birth to him uh he has two daughters he got married and I think it's 1969. this is Putin we're talking about yeah he had a he had a tough life okay yeah his first wife thought I did well he wanted to get married at a young age but he didn't uh he kind of regretted but tries not to think about it he didn't really talk about as much his relationship but he had a hard life when the USR was was falling he was in East Germany he was behind paperwork back work as a KGB agent uh he was pretty much getting information from uh back from the states in Russia USR but no one was really following any floors by the time uh to follow the department of walls happening actually the uh where he was working they actually uh all the mobs from East Germany went into the building tried to figure out who was KGB or not okay and he managed to escape he managed to get some guards and he went back to Russia or uh he worked his way up to becoming president of depression okay and from your reading and knowledge how do you think things are going to turn out I'm hoping maybe he does the right decision and calls for a ceasefire and that he apologized to the Ukrainian government and offers him assistance in rebuilding the country that's probably his best option okay what from what you read about and what do you think of likely of this felt like that option I think he'll figure something out okay um that's just me and my personal opinion he might cause for a ceasefire okay I hope so that's why I'm probably maybe within a year or so I don't think it's going to capture him by the end of the week I don't want to steal too much because I don't want to get a restaurant but want a blacklist so usually what I stole was candy food magazines movies video games video game controllers okay uh did you ever take any of those things before you were age 15. oh I tried to okay what tell me what anything you took before or stole shoplifted before 15 release what kind of movies would you still anything on the market anything I founded Cruz is able to absorb and retain information quickly and seems to fixate on certain subjects his history of stealing unnecessary items could be another one of his bids for attention or it could be another symptom of mental illness where the person engages in Risky behaviors thank you interesting like predator apparently like was that the old days when they got like DVDs and stuff I didn't even I don't know if they had that so much anymore not anymore now you can just go on the internet would you expect some DVDs what age did you start doing that uh 12 13. okay and um install uh what was that box of donuts once I'll breathe in 15. okay have you ever uh broken into anybody's home or soccer did what's that is that good yeah how about you uh or car even Yeah I broke into cars just kept change count change trying to have any weapons or anything there okay and uh were you less than 15 when you broke into the cars a little bit while they're 16. okay uh shoot stuff in the backyard in fact that's what you did was that related to yeah how so uh for entertainment right but but it helped me understand that this is against the law that was the thrill of knowing I was against all what was the thrill of doing it no just shooting a gun in the backyard just against the law what is it yeah and what was wrong about that okay and then um we were describing to me yesterday that at some point you decided uh did you leave the gun there no I went out of I went out I I think I tossed it down on the ground on the third floor or something I think I stopped on the first and then I kicked and I went up when I went to the side and tell me again uh how come you stopped at that moment uh I couldn't find anyone to kill a couple how come I didn't know if kids were in the classroom or not or I didn't know I just didn't I didn't want to do it anymore and I didn't think anyone else was just going okay yesterday you were to school yeah I told you I had like trapnel and everything I wonder what I was shooting at yeah I was gonna ask a ask about the the window uh could you could you see I think you told me yeah I could see it yeah I could see a football field and I could see it off to the side a little bit could you see any kids at all or not yeah there was like for three to four hundred yards that's 4 800 yards I can't remember who guarded and did the window ever crack at all yeah there's like holes in it okay and I don't know how big an AR-15 is what I tip is it really is to pull it inside it's not not so much the barrel the barrel doesn't have anything to do with this but it's the bullet so however big bullets because that hole is going to be the same okay and did you ever try to fire through the Bullet Hole or what happened I tried it didn't work I tried smashing my gun into the into the window try to break it then hard and why were you trying to smash the the gun in the window uh let's try to try to shoot out the crowd okay that didn't work okay on the other side and I was walking and then I saw two girls without them okay and then I Was Fear wing and that butterfly is terrible okay yeah I think her his name was Pierre Wong or something I can't remember yeah yeah and so uh the first person I shot reminded me what that was like and what and how you were able to how you did that I thought they would scream that's more like they passed out okay just well I just came out of pouring out of their head okay it was really nice and sad to see and um again uh I think I asked you this yesterday but uh I think I showed Mercy to the three girls I promise you I was gonna walk away but it started to uh show nasty faces and then explain to me how probably expressions of Terror Crews may have the inability to read the emotions of others or it might be another symptom of mental illness paranoia Crews may also be trying to justify his actions to himself by choosing to believe a scenario in which they deserved it Nicholas Cruz was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder and 17 counts of attempted murder on October 20th 2021 Cruz pleaded guilty to all charges and apologized for his crime the trial was delayed several times in part due to covet restrictions on October 13 2022 a jury unanimously agreed that Cruz was eligible for the death penalty but deadlocked on whether it should be imposed resulting in a recommendation to sentence him to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole nine jurors were in favor of the death penalty but Florida law requires that it be a unanimous decision in accordance with recommendation Nicholas Cruz was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole if you enjoyed this
