and then he opens the door and then he has a rock on his hand and he hit me upside my head with The Rock and he slams the door this video shows the interview of a man claiming that his involvement in a stabbing stemmed from self-defense early in 2016 Renton police were called in to investigate a stabbing at an apartment complex drugs were suspected to be involved and one of the men jacar Wright claimed that the stabbing occurred in self-defense against two assailants and so I was high and I was tired yeah I smoked with them know was I grabbed the knife and I I got stabbed right here and that's when I uh stabbed them after with the same knife yeah I mean if I'm to look at this case objectively you got plenty of reason to be pissed off okay see that's what I think the most likely is they throw you out of there and you get pissed off nope and they opened the door and you saw a rock through there and I'm not trying to open a trap door for you because the truth is is what I'm interested in exactly regardless of what everybody says different people have different versions thank you sir everybody had to record each statement definitely water right yeah right now you get off the bathroom inside you have to write a few times to an attorney anything you say Canada court of law you have about to talk to an attorney before answering any questions you have the right to have an attorney present during the questions if you cannot afford an attorney one will be appointed for you without cost before doing questioning if you so desire do you understand that sir yes sir having Apartment number four what do you know about that unit who lives there uh Katrina if that's the same room I'm not sure that's the middle one isn't that yeah okay right has been read as rights and seems to have no concern about speaking with the police either he has nothing to hide or he believes he can lie well enough to be released foreign [Music] there was like two other people but they they left and went next door to Adam's apartment and uh she went to treatment I guess yeah yeah yeah okay and um who are those two people do you know their name no okay I don't even know their name okay and what else was in number four uh there was like two other people the guys are girls [Music] and they know their names no I don't know their names like Sam or so my understanding is you stayed in that unit is that true right right for how long did you hang out I had just came uh when she was going to treatment I had came like uh like two days before she went to treatment or whatever you know what month that was um I think it's last month I did yeah like last Long December or earlier than that it was like a little bit earlier like at the end of November it was yeah so you went into number four and started living there or staying there overnight into November right right she gives me the keys before she goes to rehab she gets me me only the keys okay excuse me right because I she knew I guess she uh knew she had to pay her rent or whatever and that's why I had my own little money and stuff and so I gave her some money and stuff you know for whatever and then until I was in there and I had the keys and that was basically like my spot okay okay so you people moved in and were staying there uh back and forth from like next week right right but I wasn't allowing that so it was only like um I I it was only like Sam um and uh Sam and Cole and um her boyfriend or whatever and then it was just us and so like uh before the incident happened who or he had moved all this stuff to Adam's apartment so he was gone for like five days okay so I'm thinking that he left and then just moved over there there's no incomes banging on the door whatever I don't yeah are you talking the same day of the incident are you telling me now about the days each year okay yes so that day tell me what happened in order up to the incident okay so that's December 31st 2015 that's New Year's Eve okay does that sound familiar yeah okay so you were living in four at that time right right what's the first thing that happened that started this whole mess um well I wasn't really tripping about him banging on the door I still let them in and he said he had his stuff there and I said and the fam I guess he liked Sam or whatever and Sam he goes out the back window for some reason I don't know what it was all about Sam she goes out the window or whatever and then I tell him because he likes the girl and I don't know if he thinks I'm trying to get with her or what but I don't even like that girl okay so she hops up a little though he's banging on the door like hey man what do you thinking on the door for her well oh my stuff's in there but my stuff and I need to get my stuff okay we'll get you stuff there okay and then did he do that uh no he didn't okay I laid on the bed I said man I'm tired man all right go ahead that was coming down so I I lay down on the big Edge yeah man go to sleep he kicks the bed this is my mattress this is my mattress hey man because that's my buddy you know it's my body's all right man couldn't talk about me right right right I mean it's tripping man this is my man it's just just chill now but it's cool you know I'm laughing trying to you know like man you know I didn't think he was serious and so I wasn't even going to go to sleep I'm just like man bro for real it was just I know whatever so I guess I give my little uh two bags on my phone and then I'm leaving that I'm leaving out the door about what time do you think oh that was an evening that was and actually I was about like 11ish in the afternoon in the morning like kind of and so yeah I come to find out he was Dope Sick okay or whatever and I had a little bit of black and I said what do you think man I just asked him are you sick or something that was the whole reason why he was mad he was like uh yeah and I said okay I'll smoke with you and then you know that goes over to um one of my neighbors Apartments I took all my number one no no okay so you took your bags right and left I just left you didn't know it was my spot I just left yeah for you to leave and not come back did they kick you out did they come back in okay not right then you just left on your own accord Wright gives a detailed description of events but also admits that he was doing hard drugs at the time even if he isn't deliberately lying this can affect the accuracy of his story I guess that wasn't enough for him or whatever and so I just chilled at my neighbor's house for a while okay and stuff and then I try to come back I'm banging on the door downstairs and then um you know if I didn't answer nobody else and then he comes out the front door back to the front door opens the door and I'm trying to hold us yeah call opens the door and he's like oh oh yeah that that's when he tried to poke me and was like oh you can't get back in here we don't want you here okay and then um he slams the door in my face but what time does that be like like a little bit after a little bit uh could I chill for a minute and then I came back we're like an hour later or something hours later so maybe one ish or something yeah yeah so Transit doing myself and I try to come back again a couple hours after that and then he he opens the door he keeps opening the door the front not the door to the number four but you're talking the front door I got the keys to the upstairs door so I didn't even have a chance to even lock my door the door and then and then he opens the door and then he has a rock on his hand he hit me upside my head with The Rock and then slams the door why won't they let you in I know it was like a takeover thing because he likes this girl that stays up there and she does heroin right and so he's like a sucker for the girls so that's right no that's not even Samantha that's a different girl so I guess he's trying to bring me out of the apartment for me not to come in here so they can have that apartment for themselves okay that's that's what I'm telling you that that's what you think that that's that's what I'm thinking okay go ahead that's what I'm thinking so the rock thing happens and when I leave and it's night time or whatever try to get in the front door she opened the door I thought I said you don't stay here I'm not going to let you in here you have to skateboard in his hand and stuff I'm like man whatever and so I try to go through the back door and nobody's answering the door or whatever so I was just I was just waiting there waiting waiting for somebody to just come open the door if somebody just left out and then they hurry up and close the door and stuff so I'm like damn and then so if somebody left out the back yeah and I went to that back door well the back door well the one by the the uh the one by the stairs was closed the new clothes when he came out of that I was already in their like they look inside how'd you get on the inside because I don't know the back back I guess somebody that was all the way the back back doors and you got in there I had my bags in my hand and I was just sitting there um I was sitting there waiting for somebody to open the door whatever how long is this after the rock hit you on the head instance there's a couple hours later a couple hours later a couple hours later and then we'll just sitting in there or whatever and then I'm just listening upstairs or whatever and I guess um you can hear them probably just people talking and stuff and so I I heard somebody say open the door and let somebody in okay but I guess because one of my friends I don't want to say uh nobody's names or whatever they told him to go open the door or whatever but they knew I was down there because I was banging on the door and everybody knows that I was down there yeah so I guess until cool to come down there where Cole comes down there with some other dude I think his name is Xavier they come down there and we say hey I thought I told you not to come come over here uh you don't stay here no more you don't stay here no more and then I'm just like man I stay here man and then I try to I try to go in and walk up the stairs and then they grabbed me and was like cussing with me so I'm trying to go up the stairs I'm like man you know what I'm saying and then [ __ ] and then it was just like a little blackout and then all I know was I grabbed the knife and then I I got stabbed right here and then after that it was like a blur I I just like you know I a scenario that Wright gives the detective makes it sound like Wright was acting in self-defense if there is any accuracy to his story it is at least within the realm of possibility I blacked out this it was hustling with me and it would punch me and then I think I'm I believe it was cool wasn't one of them to one of them if you try to stab me and and thank God man I didn't get stabbed in like the face or anything and I I grabbed the knife and then that's when I got cut actually I that's when I uh stab them after yeah yeah because I grabbed it and I just it was just hella fast like that and so it was saying I'm so like and I'm right-handed yeah yeah that's it oh right here so we grabbed which one of them had the knives thinking it was probably cool because uh he had one of those kitchen knives that was in my apartment unbelieving it was school after night it was a it was like a blackout after that I do believe it was called what happened right so you're not sure or you don't remember because you're blacked out I remember because I got punched after that until I blacked out and I I believe it was cool when that happened right I believe because the other dude punched me okay you grabbed the knife with your left hand yeah I I grabbed the knife and pulled it out of their hands yeah I I pulled them for some reason I I grabbed it and then that's when I cut my [ __ ] yeah and you pulled it out right and as I grabbed it I cut my own [ __ ] and then that's when I did so you switched it to your life right right and then you stabbed who right uh I guess uh it was cool yeah where did you get him at the uh where'd you started now because everything was like a blur after that I was so scared and stuff and then they they punched me and they bullied me and then I see him at night and then I just got hella scared I was I was just scared man and I was just me by myself that night and then when my brother was out outside because he didn't even want to come in after he seen that he was scared himself you mean at the same time no no at the same time uh as that happened he was outside uh the door you know the back door he was just like right there whatever because I was banging on the door so I'm like bro just please stay with me bro just please stay with me you can say they might try to yeah Dante I'm like bro please bear with me yeah did Dante see this thing no he didn't he didn't see it he was outside the outside door or whatever because I was hanging on the door for Helen he was just like man I'm just gonna leave or whatever so he went outside the door and and I'm pretty sure he was outside the door because he was waiting for me how can you remember all this stuff but yeah it's a blur and a blackout during this whole tussle fight thing uh you know what I mean I mean you remember stuff pretty well but didn't you black out and you don't know I know I because I was scared man I was scared and I was trying to get in my house and I was just scared man but yeah he also told me that you heard somebody right tell them to come downstairs and open the back door right right right and they were aware you were down there it almost sounds like a setup like go down open that door and they don't know you're waiting there right did Chris know when we were down there I I text him on on this little phone that I was using I I text but I don't want to see what he opened it he was opening the door for somebody else or whatever I guess he was open the door for somebody else but yeah it was a setup uh because he he knew that he wasn't openly ignore he knew that he uh they wasn't opening the door for me so why would you send this dude down that just attacked just hit me upside the head with a rock and did all this why would you send him down here and then another dude with him to go open the door to let me in that was like they kind of set me up in a way like she did not let me know I got the keys I thought they were opening the door for Auntie Kim right right that's who they thought they were right is unclear about some of the details but says that he had been knocked out during a portion of the events it isn't clear how he could understand what was going on if that was the case so there is some discrepancy that will need to be sorted out I I you know because I was already banging on the door so I know somebody somebody told somebody that I was down there maybe I was down there that's why they came down there with him in the other Jews right that's why they came down they're like you know you know what this knife look like I'm not super familiar with okay so I'm just curious to describe a knife I think it's a depressed describe how long the blade works oh I'm sure have you seen that in Katrina's apartment before yeah yeah have you used it before like like for cooking and stuff like that um I don't really I don't put could you say you recognize that as being one of her kitchen yeah yeah that word she normally keep it uh over there by day inside the truth when you came upstairs so so you you bypassed they're downstairs Cole's telling you I didn't even get in the apartment period but but you you said if I got this clear that the last time when when when you got there in college fell on your head man you don't live here anymore and then you said you you walked past them and then and then they started grabbing you and hitting you that's I I barely made it up two stairs okay so you didn't accept it yeah I didn't even get in with the cold it came to the door there did you was he holding a knife I I I think so I I do I do believe he was holding the light but it must have been in this party wasn't he screaming at you when you grabbed it from him or what was he doing with the knife when you grabbed it from him when I grabbed it from him uh I guess he put it out of his pocket he pulled him out of his pocket yes sir I mean what do you remember him doing I mean because it was like a blur like that because he could have gave you or punched you right exactly that was after the knife thing was this did he punch you before or after you grabbed the knife do four before he punched me before the knife thing so he punches you and then you see the knife yeah and then I see the night that that's when uh Cole reported that I didn't even see him pull it out so he must report it out quick and so when he wouldn't go try to stab me I grabbed it but you said before you you didn't know if you tried to stab you no except no I said I I think I I feel like I feel him trying to stare at me and that's when I grab the night that's all that that's what I remember he tried to stand up I don't know how long after you grab it did you get punched he punched me before the nice day so after I get punched then Carl was trying to stab me and then that's when I grab the knife and you pull it out of the scan yes I pulled it out of here that's where I cut my hand from you you remember putting it from your left hand into your right hand right it was just it was just fast what did you do right after that as soon as I grabbed it I I stabbed because they attacked me they would punch me and then they both were just like tussling with me like this and then it's cold like this and then I seen the thing and then I grabbed it and so like and then I cut myself and then everything was just like a blur after that so when you grow I was just like you're able to actually physically pull it out of his hand even though you have a blade I grabbed a blade and you're able to take it out [Music] right and that's when I grabbed it I don't know it was it was quick I guess he's he wasn't that strong and everything was moving fast or whatever but I I I got that knife because I was so scared I was just like man there's two dudes and it's just me and I'm like oh man oh yeah so like you grabbed the knife and then you grab it and you say you kind of remember that but things were getting kind of blurry do you remember what Xavier was doing uh I don't think he did anything after that uh I don't know if you remember hey everybody everybody uh left I think what did you do afterwards I just I want I I stayed for a second and then I walked off where was calling you well I don't know I don't know where he went after that yeah I don't know I'm not sure I don't know anything after that I what happened I don't know what they did where they live yeah where'd you go um foreign I just walked off I I just walked off I left I walked off and then I seen one of my friends and so I didn't even know where I was going where did I go The Knife Fight does not add up it was two against one and if they were targeting right then why didn't they stab him while he was unconscious yeah one of them little spots over there and then okay so today we located your 417 Williams South Unit S 203 yeah is that where you've been staying since this incident uh just just for two days okay so how much drugs did you use that day you smoked some crystal meth what else did you like that all day I hadn't slept for very much I didn't even sleep that whole black I suppose black too so with coal with him so you're you're very high on math but then you also did some some heroin right so doesn't that kind of caught caught me down or or what what yeah I was already out of school were you doing are you doing math after you smoke the heroin was was coal that didn't no I did the net before so I was already up how how much heroin I was tired um about how much did I smoke with him because yeah after he kicks the bed you guys go to that other unit oh I I just smoke like a little dying with them it wasn't me a lot it wasn't even enough for him because he still had an attitude and he was still mad and stuff so when when this whole thing happened you feel like Debbie did you feel like you were still kind of did you feel high did you feel like you were doped up whatever when you go no I'm supposed to be taking medication because I get you know I get the money every month those the 197 so much for uh bipolar and all that stuff and sleep and all that because I get 197 every month and I haven't been taking my medications yes sir if you're off your medication for bipolar and you've been smoking crystal methane you've been smoking heroin how are you sure you're remembering all this stuff as it truly occurred or are you remember how you think it may have occurred you know I and I know exactly I I know exactly I I only blacked out after that app if I was just like whoa what the [ __ ] are you serious I don't understand okay I I didn't feel anything coming downstairs because the stairs they're already downstairs when we open the door the stairs are back there but here's why I'm having a problem with your story is they think they're coming to unlock the door for somebody completely different not you but they already knew I was down trust me they knew I was down there already because I was already I was banging on the phone why would they bring a nice down there if they're thinking they're opening the door for somebody else you probably already had a knife in his pocket right in front of me let me tell you what everybody there is telling me okay is that you had the knife that you took it out of that apartment and had it and you were down there and when they came down you stabbed them why didn't you wait there for the police to tell them your side of this story then instead of leave and not ever be heard from because because honestly I was scared and I knew that I had stabbed them and I knew that I was going to get in trouble even though that that I even know that they attacked me I just moved because I I felt like man I was the only black dude and I'm I'm just I was I was scared I was like damn they're gonna just blame it all on me one thing this dude was keeping me out of my apartment all day he's hit me outside the head with a rock they bullied me and all this but the their names are you know that's what everybody said why would you just why would you just stay there I don't know I was nervous I never been in that situation before like that further on that was the same same thought here so so Katrina left the place secured to you right right and so so it's your place do you feel like you got some type of responsibility right right I didn't hear the keys yeah so hear me out on this if people are overtaking your place that you're taking you know taking care of for Katrina right did you already get hit with a rock why why aren't you contacting either a management police somebody else to go hey I need to reclaim this please instead of taking it out on your own you know why because I felt right because she was already she was getting me evicted so if I would have put everybody in the business and then they would have locked down an apartment I'm homeless I don't have nowhere to stay so that's why they want to feel nobody so that's what I was trying to just get in I was just trying to get in my apartment I don't even know it was going to go down like that and it was going to attack me and the detective points out the discrepancies to write and suggests that his drug use and his being off his medication may have influenced how he recalls the event Wright denies this and says that things occurred exactly how you'd said when asked why he didn't contact the building manager or the police Wright says it was because he was afraid he would end up homeless an unmentioned Factor would be that if you are using crystal meth and heroin the last people that you call will be the the building supervisor and the police are you serious we're friends what was all this come well I'm just I'm just lost I smoked the stuff with you right and you're still doing this what the heck is going on why which makes me sound to me though like if that was me I'd be pissed off I was kind of pissed off but I wasn't pissed off like that yeah I'm just like we didn't go over there to you know anybody back or do anything like that no no it wasn't like I was just trying to get in every time that I went I would be like hey man are you playing or man I'm not playing I have both of my bags are in my head I take my bag everywhere so both of my bags was in my head yeah as I was knocking on the door that's what you said I was like man did you see that rocket them earlier that day no I didn't throw anything up you know but I couldn't hear you but if I'm being told you through that field when they opened the door no and who's then the only person that opened the door and hit me with a rock was cold nobody else was there no nobody else that's the front door yeah the line about that yeah okay because it was only cold that opened that door yep so your feeling is they came down and you didn't leave for whatever reason even though there's two guys coming down you tried to just rush by them soon one of them brought a knife out and you took that knife away from him via the blade right swish it to your right hand and then stabbed in self-defense and quitting down yes sir that's right where did that nice end up in him and just went like that and I didn't see no blood or nothing and I didn't even know that I wasn't even that I even cut myself from grabbing tonight and so I left and I was like oh [ __ ] I'm bleeding you know I'm trying to figure out if I can in a situation like that if I can physically grab a knife blade and pull it out of the guy's hand that's trying to stab me that's a tough one I mean I mean every every single time you do something I mean you you're not always strong you know what I'm saying you might be nervous yourself and be not on your best you know when you're freaking out you see it not come out you grab it yeah you just grab back and run why are you just just Boogie out of there because because I was just so nervous I'm just like man [ __ ] man they just trying to they was just trying to get in it it was just trying to attack me don't have a knife tell me how he pulled it out again I don't remember seeing him pull it out so coming over here I I just I just hit a knife yeah like that and then that's when I grabbed it yeah and I guess they probably poked me right here at first and then when I grabbed it like this I guess that's how I got this this damn uh score right here 's what I think the most likely is they throw you out of there and you get pissed off when they opened the door and you saw a rock through there okay and then you come back later and try to get through and you'll have a little tussle and they hit you in the head with a rock which I agree that probably happened right you get pissed off and you go lay it in the back and you have somebody text tell them you text up there and say have them fools come down there and open this door and they come down and open that door and you're laying there with a knife and you stab Colt and then you run you know because that makes sense to me no yeah there's no textures but nobody waiting earlier apparently there was text no I I know the people up there no no no they knew you were down there that was that was my buddy that I text and I heard him up there and I was just like hey bro you're not gonna let me in and that's Chris yeah yeah that's that's my that's my buddy I don't really want to put him in nothing I was just like hey bro everybody please don't let me in so he knew I was down there because he was up in the house he knew I was down there that's why he felt cool down there and oh boy that's what I'm thinking about that's my buddy he's not gonna send them down there to hurt you right is becoming more agitated he senses that the police are not convinced this is made evident when the detective points out that it was Wright's friend that sent the two men to his apartment so the chances of there being ill intent on their side are low because he told them they were open the door for Auntie Kim because I'm not expecting you then but you're laying there right I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure if he told them he probably told them that I was to open the door for me because he knew that early I couldn't get in because I kept telling him uh Texas man that makes zero sense okay well I got to take where is it where's the best my brother I said hey man let me in please man can you just come down and let me in I wasn't waiting there to do anything but get in there that's why I had my bags with me why would I carry a knife don't even make that only make sense I got two bags in my all I was trying to do was get in he's the one upstairs with all the damn kitchen knives and [ __ ] he was [ __ ] attack me it's crazy [Music] and that's on Jesus Christ you know that that's crazy and I think uh that the wounds probably wouldn't stop him you know you stop being so hard your hand probably slipped off that knife and cut yourself the right hand so that's I don't even know that makes sense no it doesn't Okay because I'm right-handed you assaulted me earlier that day when you hit me with a ride yeah okay pretty good uh high resolution picture so so uh okay he's gonna we got a detective he's gonna come in here with uh with the new camera so what do you tell so what Dante was there that's what you're telling me he's just in the back yes he didn't see the incident though at all however I don't know if you open the door and seen it I I do believe he opened the door and he seen it well she's going to tell us that happened that night uh [ __ ] that they wouldn't let me in that they wouldn't let me in there and they attacked me [Music] because he's going to know whether you had that knife beforehand and I was there he's going to know I texted him and said hey come on down and open the door you know we're just so you so empty Kim was coming in you just happened to be down there but you texted your friend and said come let me in yes you didn't text him and say send someone else down here no I did it you texted your friend doesn't let me in the back yes what did he respond he never even responded that's why I was triviality yeah like hey what that's what I'm thinking of my head are you going against me you're my friend you know I've been trying to get in all day right is still unable to explain why two men were sent down just to let him in but he refuses to admit that there is a possibility that his perspective was Wright's story can be proved one way or another distron Parker Bell fired a 40 caliber pistol into the floor sending the room which included several civilians into a panic as people duck for cover do you have anything any other questions well I don't know a lot about the case but yeah I agree with detective Morris here I mean if I'm to look at this case objectively you got plenty of reason to be right I don't understand I would be good stuff as well people don't belong in that place she entrusted you and only you with this place right you've got the key you're the one that decides to be there who can't be there right and now I'll send a call because he's got something for some girls or whatever whatever you think is the problem but you don't have a place to stay now right okay it would there's you know the transit center there's a dessert shop donut shop thing no it's the park and ride because that's where you park your cars and then you hop on the bus that's behind McDonald's across the street from the Department right you know when you when you first come in on the front of it it's it's right there do you know where Bankers Towing is I know you know where all these places are because you've been in Renton for many years so as well Sunset that I don't know where the towing thing is okay so the street that is just when you walk North when you walk North you know which
