I'm going to say that Chad's death was not an accident this video contains the interview of a woman accused of helping to kill her husband and setting the body on fire to cover up her crime in the early morning hours of December 31st 2019 Nikki Ensel and Earl Howard murdered Nikki's husband Chad Edsel and staged the crime scene to look like a suicide Chad was shot twice with a shotgun and bottles of alcohol were strategically left around the room to substantiate Nikki ensel's claim that her husband was an abusive alcoholic the two then left the body but returned later to set a fire in hopes of covering up any evidence on January 2nd 2020 Ensel called 9-1-1 claiming she couldn't get into her house and she thought there was a fire four days before the murder prosecutors noted that Nikki Ensel took out a redder's insurance policy worth twenty six thousand dollars she was also the sole beneficiary to Chad's six hundred thousand dollar life insurance policy something about which she inquired within days of her husband's Murder She and Howard were planning on running away together to start a new life but soon found themselves Prime suspects in the murder investigation [Music] that okay download right away and then he came home and he said everything has some drinks and then and they just would be very quiet did he just drink his drink straight very nice you said you'd be to suggest that he had a problem with alcohol about it thinking what was what was Chad like does it mean what's he had I mean what was he like was roller coaster roller coaster wasn't just with the November or for Thanksgiving they didn't end up going for Christmas not never yet sick and then the boys are sick and then we have other storms right and then they went up there with them um they right do everything because of all the time they just couldn't get up there this is Patrick Heather's birthday was the first so whatever it was Hadley's birthday was the first yeah so they were going with us and yeah everything else and also so Chad doing yeah foreign [Music] Howard is painted as something of a white knight coming to ensel's rescue at least in her mind in reality she has just described a man who may be willing to help the woman he loves to commit a crime [Music] we should always the best you don't want to see the rain again [Music] doing Tuesday was it working I just got you know anything I've been working with all my medical assistant give me some space give me some kind of thing I was supposed to get up and looking at the bodies and we had that awesome a storm no and so as I don't have to promote smile all day I said well I said my happy values just cause my rose and everything else so he said stay here do nothing and then do anything for New Year's at all or anything too yeah I just didn't know yeah okay and um then seriously happened went to work just like any other day this video very nice it was like running for like the minute I entered in the door and then if one ever came across my phone sorry answered that was it was cold from his work and he said I haven't been home for a few days I said I can't I can't get away I said I have a super busy day of class all day and who says you know you can't take people to your home right yeah and I said I'm sorry I can't get away I said if her contacts them and he goes well let me know what we find out and I said yes so I tried to call into a text I didn't hear anything back and I had to get ready for my ex-client and then he sent me a message saying that they had been out there and his truck was there and he's answered I just said you know I was utilized as I could but I just couldn't and then I had money at work and it starts at you know four because we have our innovating meetings you know and maybe and after that it was then okay he said it was the other cards it's something new I know because it smells funny out there yeah an interesting point about ensel's statement is the fact that Chad's workplace was immediately concerned when he did not show up that day this does not match the behavior of an alcoholic who is unreliable and shows that edsel's claims about his constant truckiness were probably false in the door [Music] they got you guys um yeah well like I said then you know we kind of talk from there um when you got there I mean you set yourself in the smoke because okay you see it again in the glass right there is [Music] like Smoky Bird yeah you just give up boys about [Music] yeah I think that was probably the fireman and autopsy would later reveal that Chad was dead before the fire started and had been killed by two shots from a shotgun they didn't know what they uh you know if he was alive yeah amazing [Music] it's gonna be okay [Music] okay my hearings are you still are you staying off family or anything I don't know where you're still at this the hotel still no doubt are you doing okay there for finances and stuff and everything like don't know if you just kidding or not sure anything but I don't know um we're able to do a lot with digital information you know we're able to um get information off the cell phones we're able to to track the location of the cell phones we're able to go back and pull surveillance video um even sometimes if someone has turned it off or if it doesn't work we can still recover that um you know we're able to basically go through that scene and find tiny little things that the naked Idol doesn't see me um you know we have a lot of new technology that we can do a lot of stuff with and I pulled no stops on this one as you asked me why when I wanted to find out for you so we can we can do all that and uh you know like I said we can track all those cell phones so do you know we can we can go back we can look at camera footage from the area of vehicles coming and going um I'm going to say that Chad's death was not an accident right based off of all of the information that I've gathered trans death was not an accident [Music] well and that's what I I wanted to talk to you and what I wanted you to hear it from me you know going into this um like I said we we have pulled so many resources on this and we have used so much technology on this we know how this happened and Mickey I think you know how to I know that's right um did not die in the fire okay thank you Chad was killed by a gun show he was killed by a firearm yeah we did an autopsy on the Chad and there was no soot in his lungs or in his throat and that tells us that Chad was dead before the fire started okay there was also what is a girl doing in North Dakota he's coming here dude he's got a couple project manager jobs that he's coming to Scout and all that so okay all right and Chad knows it all okay are they friends they're mad they've hung out they've you know said he's he came over and you know it's I guess I mean pretty much anybody that comes over at my fingers is Young to come over the order for me you pretty much already have free range from the house and have a bite to eat and order for me what do you mean in order for me I'm a catering business oh okay so all right um so Chad knows Earl they get along yeah okay and so then I understand you were staying at the Staybridge okay so who you were staying with Earl he was already had already had their room there and I told him I said I was upset Monday and I said you know I just spend some time the furnace is working so for everything I said I and I told you I said I can't keep doing don't open this working I don't want to be here I said it's been up pretty much since we've been living here the detectives press Ansel about her relationship with Howard and she still maintains it was platonic the fact that he just happened to be in town at the time of Chad's death is just a bit too hard to swallow you know I wouldn't be here I said you know I was drinking you know and at that point I said I just left I you know edited to work it works Monday you know I've seen them oh no it just helps with me we grab some stuff and that so so what a chat that can be going and staying in a hotel room with parole and he said something different than we went to go to Texas you know I went to meet when you said we said we went to Texas so who's we you and Chad are you in earlier yeah and that's them but I mean I went over to the cities and chop them at his Emirates you know um Earl and his daughter over there and you know for a weekend think of you going and staying in a hotel room with it all right Chad didn't think anything of that really I'm a married man myself he's married that would not fly with I don't know any guy that would fly with that and it's like no stay what would your thought if Chad had went and stayed with Earl's wife in a hotel room while you stayed home just be realistic here mine's Lisa we went to the cities and we hung out it was me I talked to Chad every night yeah you know and you know FaceTime that I mean because you have fun you know we hung out I got stuff from when we were there we you know I talked to the boys we did different things I mean so do you and Earl it's more than just a friendship I mean there's definitely a romantic relationship there right okay so if I told you that we had some some information from some of the apps on your phone that says differently what would you say to that anybody can say anything huh you know we can talk back and forth with me we have a side back in person said you know yeah I think he's you know super nice person he thinks that you know I'm super beautiful and you know you know I don't hang out with I'm not being in the drinking scene I'm not beginning to all that you know so when you delivery you know we hang out we you know sit and talk you know we do the same I do I you know somebody you know I like it I can tell I love them I mean I think it's together I love when he comes to town we we hang out we you know we do this we do that and you know you go hang out you spend time together you do whatever and you know it's different things you know things that you know Chad won't do with me you know so so I mean so is it a romantic relationship I guess that's what I'm asking no okay okay nope I I do I I love to change I I don't doubt that at all and part of the reason I'm in here is like I had said I I saw the crime scene we have all the evidence to kind of know what happened here and a crime scene like that and what happened in the chat can have been done by someone that could be constructed as a monster or it could be someone that if they had a reason for that but it would need to be explained otherwise it's going to look like it was done by someone who was a monster and that's [Music] that it it was a fairly harsher with Ensel than the detective has been they have letter Coast through the interview long enough and now it is time to shake her up I'm not with the camera system it didn't actually lie too hot why you look for your meds or anything okay and what did you guys do for an hour and 40 minutes because you didn't look for your meds and it didn't take you an hour and 40 minutes to empty your dishwasher load your dishwasher and push go through the garage [Music] we're in the house and user drinking whatever it's not bad did what no oh okay and I put it I just taped stuff into the 1200 into that trash can you know and close your dishwasher that went into the pantry they're gone for some stuff in the pantry it's up in the quarters and my mermaids and I said I'm I'm leading him about we left again when you left my Chad man [Music] and you're going to stay in the hotel with Earl right well no I'm not I'm not Ansel makes a reversal to her story and says that Chad was upset that she was leaving which is understandable since his wife was staying in a hotel room with another man this is hardly a situation where he would sit and make small talk for almost two hours with a man who was staying with his wife saying that didn't mean that way I cannot imagine if Chad was sitting there drinking you show up at home with Earl and then you're gonna hang out there for an hour and 40 minutes and then go and leave and go back to a hotel with Earl the chance probably quite passed right so what happened when we were when you guys were there something happened yes [Music] [Applause] yeah did some what else happened there there was it I went upstairs the game with the garage door opener because it was open and then we left did you maybe go out to the vehicle and they all stayed inside for couldn't find them and then at 6 32 you go out there and just run in and grab me you know where they're at maybe I have them in the bathroom we'll check the bathroom so for an hour and 40 minutes you stay so I enjoyed that one doors in that then where'd you go right to the hotel I need my packs I have high blood pressure yeah and if I don't have my patches on probably even sit there so I went to work so would you enchant or not doing chat what did you and Earl do from the time you got back to the hotel in the first time after being out there at your house or not the first time I suppose it would be the second time when you guys are out there for about an hour and 40 minutes and then you went back to the hotel what'd you guys do I do we don't need to dry my bags my legs are more baskets looking through the different stuff and back to my prayers that would be in here I gotta find this stuff so then tell me why before you guys went out there that time to get your meds why did you feel the need to go and try to tamper with the camera system I don't you logged on at 12 43 A.M and we're attempting to put the camera in like a privacy mode which has been work and then you showed up out there 15 minutes later anybody can log into my cameras I have my stuff I don't they don't just have to be aware I mean but it wasn't just anyone it was you know I've opened my cameras before and it's been open and I've not knowing it's been open before I uh here's the other thing if I go anywhere near if I go near my home with my my wife and all that my geofence goes off right so but so why were you in there trying to switch the camera mode I was like I said if I imagine we know it was you if I was in it I had a hand on the button and I'm not paying attention I don't go in and de-ground with the system a lot I know I went into it the other day and tried to update my geofence from where we lived to where we're living now and it wouldn't work it kept defaulting back to other stuff and 52 go and change myself before because when I go over to school or take two days from school it'd be exciting you know I said I gotta change it we don't even live there you know so I went in and when I changed geofence stuff it's flashes off the camera mode I have changed the offense Paramore changes that I do know because I've done it before Ansel tries to come up with a convoluted story about how anyone can access her cameras that she has met with a high degree of skepticism [Music] right okay yeah and like I said then um all right so let's just recap a little bit so you guys went out there about 1 8 1 10 am or let's go back so first you go on the cameras you try to put in your privacy home but it doesn't work then you show up yeah okay then you show up at 1 10 and you're there for an hour and 40 minutes you leave around three o'clock um 256 to be exact right 632 usual back on a thousand I don't know 6 38 you and I'll leave activity throughout the day then at about 10 55 that evening then you guys are back out of the house again or was Earl back out at the house without you all right so it was Earl at the house without you without you possible [Music] went out there by himself what would Earl had went back out to that house by himself and why would Earl have one backup to that house by himself without telling you he asks if Howard could have gone alone and she said it's possible I so where were you at hi there I'm sorry I've been sure you're at that late because the night before you didn't even go to bed besides them working do migraines usually pretty much tax up and right you would have been working that day and then you were up all night you were running around at 2 30 in the morning yet and then you went back to the hotel for a couple hours and then you were back out again so I don't know I wouldn't bring it back over at the house so Earl was back on so what was Earl doing all right so we'll establish then that you ordered out there so what was Earl doing back on at the house I don't know so everyone was back out so why was it all back out at the house come on he would have told you we're always not going to even go out to your house and not mention it to you so what did they don't tell you why did Earl tell you okay so he did tell you okay so why didn't you go with him [Music] okay and then what happened okay you guys left then she will Innocent but I sat there and lied the whole time what would you think again you're not answering my questions what would you think but what would you think I don't know what you would think I would think that you know more than you're telling us I don't know and I'm getting to the point where I'm struggling and not think that maybe you're the one who did it I don't know don't know what happened because I can about imagine how a drunk guy likes to fight and hit someone when they're drunk is gonna handle his wife walking in with another guy that she's then gonna go stay at the hotel with I can about imagine how that's gonna go and that's about how it went didn't it I mean I'm sure that did not go well at all did it we argued about the furnace I don't know and I'm sure Chad was just ecstatic about the idea of you going and staying in a hotel with another guy wasn't he um I didn't want to be there and then he was talking about now I mean you know when you were there okay so what I think happened is that something happened and I'm not going to give you know something happened at that time and whether you stepped out in the garage stayed out in the kitchen something happened in that house that led to Chad dying do I think you were probably standing there no I don't know but I think I think that you were you were there you were on that property at the time when it happened I don't know at all The Specialist pushes harder saying that he knows that Ensel knows what happened even if she didn't kill Chad herself she knows how he died I don't know at all what happened what if I told you that the second time when you went out there with Earl in the morning and you guys were in the house that we believe that Chad was probably already deceased at that time and that the third time when you said well then there's this is still up for debate because you've changed your story a few times when you and Earl were out there that next evening 10 55 or whatever Chad was also deceased at that time I don't know what happened so I think you have a little explaining to do as to we believe you were in that house twice after Chad was deceased no that's not true or I don't know what happened okay that's not what I asked you so are you telling me that's not true is that true so Chad was alive the last two times when I went in that morning okay I think okay here let me ask you a question please why would I go back to somebody's room or why would I wake somebody that's always in a follow mode that I'm trying to get out and get away from why would you go out there at one in the morning when he's been drinking and stay there for an hour and 40 minutes things just like you needed the patches at 6 30. yes I believe that it's so good not disputing them that's that's one part of this whole your whole statement that you made to me that I actually don't think you're lying on we left and left it was mad and then you guys go back out there that night then no we went out without myself okay and back out in the morning right she got no morning never in her argument that morning then well whatever time that was okay yep so you went out there you got some stuff while Chad was broken right right then you went back out there in the early morning hours like ten after one and again we were looking at it and you had been out you had been on the camera system switching it to privacy mode which is in for some reason did not work I I don't know why it didn't work it didn't work and then you guys show up out there you're there friend an hour and 40 minutes right I know you've said that yeah then you come back three hours later I get that I know that okay you said to me that you were there for an hour and 40 minutes and couldn't figure out where those patches were but then you can go out at 6 30 in the morning when you have no sleep at all if somebody's starting with 10 minutes they weren't there okay they weren't there I mean but this house also isn't that big that in an hour and 40 minutes if you needed these patches so badly you would have looked for them in all these rooms you don't look farming you stop and you just start arguing with somebody and that's all you're going to do is argue with them lose it okay so if I'm married to you and we're in an argument and you're trying to look for something and you're gonna start arguing with somebody are you going to keep looking for something are you going to stop and focus and argue with them well if I need some medication that's the sole purpose that I'm there and I'm going to get violently ill if I don't I'm probably gonna put some priority on that medication if that's the whole purpose of me being in there opening the kitchen drawer color and I'm arguing at the same time and ruffling through the stuff I'm trying to look for the stuff and I'm opening this up and I am arguing with them okay brownie I'm just you know when you stop you actually argue to face and they're done left left Ansel tries to explain why it took so long to find her patches there's no way that her version of events is in any way plausible staying here for Chris isn't work I'm done left um oh my look one more time in the bathroom foreign and then you guys went back out there again that night at 11 o'clock okay so what what did you grab when you were in there then at 11 o'clock at night when you were getting in the backpack okay that was it okay and do you notice anything unusual about the house or anything like that no or yes and no okay and where did you grab the backpack from he's in the garage okay okay you just sets it in the garage okay and where was Chad um you just went in the garage that's it and where did our own goal early in the house though um [Music] from where why was the Earl grabbing boots okay and then what do you guys do there you were there for almost 10 minutes so to go in there for 10 minutes to grab a backpack and pair of boots right in the closet right there doesn't take tender okay so where do you get the boots from oh no that's fine again both okay and where were they all at which closet okay that doesn't take 10 minutes you could grab five pairs of boots and a backpack and it wouldn't have taken 10 minutes and what else did Earl do in that house then you like that okay and what else because there's more that happened in the house then because that timeline doesn't match up yeah who looks in the backpack that's all I thought wrapping paper at all like in the garage or in the house [Music] and that's it wasn't blue okay and we grabbed the wrapping paper probably okay but you grabbed the backpack okay honey we were I thought we were honest with me I thought about something we were doing here I mean I've trusted you this whole time I'll be right back um why why were you so dishonest with me about I trusted you in Tennessee what my brain is I know but I asked you those things I asked you that you weren't honest with me why [Music] that's not help let God know what happened because like you said he you're not a monster right right and this whole situation can maybe be explained but you've got to be honest you know and like I said we keep going around this this and you keep lying about it that that doesn't how does that look how do we how do you think we look at you at that when you keep lying about this and we know that Chad was was killed can you you've got to tell us an explanation for it what happened I understand I don't Nikki I I think you know enough tell me what happened that night I think you know enough to tell me what happened during that hour and 40 minutes but then what something more happened that night Nikki that's not true we know that off the information that we've gathered we have all kinds of things like I arguing you aren't blowing the dishwasher you that might have happened but something else happened I don't know maybe something else happened and that we know it and I want to know from your point of view well your explanation because when we've when we have everything in there and together that paints its own picture that's how it's going to come out and when that happens I can't change that path right once something is said and once it gets out that's what everybody's going to think happened but now is your channels telling your words what happened and I can explain to the world what happened and it may like I said it the more you buy it the more it makes you look like this monster about what happened that night but I need to hear from you I need to hear from you what tell me what went to be honest with me because I need to know your side of the story your your what happened that night because like I said once it's out and how it looks can't be changed but if I can hear from you what happened that night it's more explainable it's explainable it's under it can even be sometimes understandable what would push someone to that limit but I know more happened at that point I know this intimate relationship with someone the story that Ensel is spinning is completely wild all of a sudden there's a lover and problems with gambling both things that should have come up immediately or at least when the detective asked if there was anyone who had a reason to harm Chad it's all complete fabrication and it is going to do nothing but damage her when she goes to trial yeah yeah happened given her track record it comes as no surprise that they don't believe this version either then what did it all say Earl said he's not alive and then what I might not realize I don't know for sure thank you what happened okay but what what did Earl say happen when the gun went off then what happened okay and what happened after that what a girl think why you had to go back to that house wait then you said that when he or that's right okay so here's my question for you regarding that so Chad's your husband right so Earl comes out and says that he's shot for that chat I got shot in the just sit in the car and wait I'm not gonna go check on Chad yet so it's now been five hours since he's been shot and you know I think at some point you would want to go check on him unless you already knew what his condition was why not or whatever you wasn't alive anymore how did it all know the second time and then whatever will do Nick what did Earl do you think yeah okay here yes 12 percent higher he said he tipped it over that it did tip over there thank you that's all after the fact though but he came back to start that fire Ansel is barely speaking and even the two detectives are straining to make out her words her story is as weak as her voice it is clear she is trying to minimize her own involvement who planned that part was that you or was that Earl you didn't plan to come and set the house on fire Earl did how is he going to set that house on fire think you've already told me just come Free Yourself we'll talk about that afterwards but I got to know what the full story is too right now you're still we're having to cut this up every second what did Earl come back to do with the propane tank for what reason he said he was scared okay okay I got that let's oops did he tell you anything else about the fire okay so did you guys come back to check did Earl want to come back to check if that house had burnt down when was that [Music] okay and what did he say when that house hadn't burnt down yet okay and when it wasn't burnt down what did he say I know what I would think what did he say [Music] s so he went into the house okay I'm going to happen so you okay so that happened you guys came back to the house Earl went in moved the propane tank so that I would start the house on fire and then you guys came back again and checked and the house still hadn't burned down you didn't go back with that time okay and the house still hadn't burned down okay did you say that you go back in why and they told me what did he tell you about the fight chapter 7 Union except okay okay what did girls say about how many times it went off thank you very much so why didn't you go back in and check on him [Music] with all you've been through will you kind of relieved that Chad was gone you speak Chinese [Music] that's all I wanted was the truth like I said I just wanted you to tell me what happened I'm craving away foreign so you were in the house arguing with Chad yes did you ever go back in that house now the Ensel is at least partially telling the truth the events are finally lining up with what the police already know happened still she has enough self-preservation to make Howard carry most of the guilt we went back in with him but we know that Earl went back twice at least twice right so what what did you guys do in the meantime so you get back to the hotel and Earl because Earl I've already told you that he shot Chad and Chad might not be alive um okay okay so when when Chad or when Earl shot Chad did he tip the propane heater over then or was it when he went back the next morning I was a little confused on that when you went back so the house was not starting to live on fire when he shot Chad that was only when you went back another night so what'd you guys do that night then so you get home and there's about a three four hour gap from when you get back to the hotel when you guys go back out there you you cry what else okay I don't know I don't know Nikki whose idea was it to call in Chad and on Tuesday morning right but it doesn't just happen though Chad's not gonna go to work on Tuesday I know but why would if Chad is dead and you know that why would you still call him that whose idea was that I'm scared my hair okay okay so you weren't trying to take time to figure anything out as a victim I'm scared what about then on the second when his co-workers are out at the house and they call you and say hey he didn't show for and you just basically tell him I'm busy at work right now I'll check on that later what was your going through your mind at that point because you knew exactly my chat wasn't that one thing why did you then did you talk with Earl when they started calling from work no because I've been crazy busy Nikki and then your husband just died in a really weird crazy circumstance about just snowballed out of control you can't tell me that you weren't thinking of that that had to be every second of your life from the time it happened okay what did you guys talk about [Music] something [Music] right right [Music] what did girls say to do what did you guys talk about what did you guys think to do this is that part where I'm trying to understand I don't know [Music] this is and everybody looking into anything about them forward and everything yeah yesterday [Music] is it is right every time you never called me back and I called so many times [Music] okay and that's why we're talking about okay we can get past that point okay that's that's your conscience telling you to do the right thing okay that's the mother and you of two children telling you you have to take care of them you have to come forward you have to tell them so tell me what those conversations were so I can understand and I can make sense of this and like you said if this is something that snowballed out of control like you said that that can make sense right but I can't I can't keep dragging these interview is brought to a close murder charges could not be pursued with either Ensel or Howard because ballistic Specialists couldn't conclusively determine who pulled the trigger Nikki Sue Ensel was bound guilty of conspiracy to commit murder conspiracy to commit arson and conspiracy to tamper with physical evidence she faces life in prison and is currently awaiting her sentencing hearing Earl
