Oh, hey. I hear you know Alexis. Yeah. >> This is Marshall Curtis Jones. In a matter of days, this man will no longer be alive. they don't yet know how to interpret. >> Now look, look. >> What? >> He's making notes. Does >> that look like blood in here? >> What these officers find doesn't even look like evidence at first. And that's exactly what makes it terrifying. >> So, do you where's He's obviously not here. So, do you know where Marshall is? >> I do not know. >> UGLY PITY. ABOUT THE ANSWER. SEARCH ONE. >> I don't want to leave you thinking that we are justing >> I know. Oh god, no. >> No. >> And I'm like, bro, what the is this? Like, are you are you a idiot? >> Good morning. How you doing? I'm Detective Horn with the police department. Uh, I'm going to I'm going to get some info from you guys and I'm going to start looking for Alexis. So, we [snorts] are we now have two detectives assigned to it. So, we're we're just needing to look. I want to see where she sleeps. Is that okay? >> She got a room. >> We have a boat. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, sure. >> Alexis Gabe was last seen on January 26, 2022. This was still during a period when quarantine restrictions were just starting to fade away from daily life, but people weren't exactly disappearing on a whim, especially not when their entire household was sick. In fact, even Alexis's family was infected, which made her absence deeply unusual. Did >> she ever uh make any like sort of statements? >> No. >> Okay. This was a heavy period for almost everyone. Isolation, uncertainty, and anxiety had become routine. So, investigators naturally needed to understand Alexis's mental state. >> And she was last seen on the 26th, right? >> Yeah. Wednesday. Is that Wednesday? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Wednesday. >> And what time did she leave here? Well, they uh they went to um around 3 something because they went to PCR too because I got my uh uh result positive. So I asked her to drive uh her brother and her to get a PCR again. Okay. >> Because we both my husband and I both positive. So after that [music] >> and she left >> and then she left in her car. Yeah. With her car. And then Ria, the friend, she said uh she uh um Skype uh video Skype with the >> around 6:40. >> Okay. >> In the park station in the parking lot in her car, >> the child around 4 uh 4 I know 6:40. >> Okay. >> And then she's saying that she's going to my son, my older son, to pick up her package. And then when I asked my son, I said, "Did you uh >> Where does he live?" in Bretwood. >> Okay. >> And I said, "Did you meet your sister?" I said, "No, cuz I told her I already left at the bus office." So, I called my And then the following day, yesterday morning, I found out my son because he's supposed to drop off my son to school. >> Mhm. >> Because we can't drive. And then uh my my final at 8:14 I wake up and check. And then my son said, "Uh yeah, I text, she's not replying." ate is a big sister. So I I text her. I said, "Where are you?" And she's not replying. And then when I tried to call her, her phone is off. >> Her phone was off, which according to everyone who knew her, basically never happened. In the disappearance cases of young people, when the phone goes dark, something else usually has too. >> She Does she work? >> Uhoh. >> She works from home. >> Yes. >> What does she do? Of course. Uh first uh she said she's doing a you know a designing um cabinet. >> Uhhuh. >> And then after that she said uh she enrolled for a insurance company. >> Okay. >> Health insurance. And then now the latest at that the latest I know is the she's doing online selling you know makeup. >> Okay. Someone is sending her this the product and then she pack in individual boxes. >> Okay. >> But I never see any uh house in here. >> Is she uh generally pretty happy? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> She's always out every >> She's always out. >> Do you know where she goes a lot of the time? >> With her friend uh E and Ria. She's with us uh yesterday, too. And I found another medicine um Yeah. You got that? >> Yeah. Find out this here. >> Thank you. >> Xanax. Okay. >> She have any mental health issues? Xanax is generally an anti-depressant. >> Yeah, I know. That's uh that's why she said um that's why she's looking out for the doctor. She's seeing the doctor. >> Okay. and starting uh when they have a accident with her boyfriend car accident and she's uh always uh go out for she said we have a chiropractor uh appointment and the latest is the MRI and the MRI test is right there >> where >> uh it's right there the CD something >> this guy >> okay >> yeah that's the CD for MRI she was in >> Is she uh injured in any way? >> Well, she said she's u she's uh complaining about her back. >> Okay. >> Her back. >> Um has she checked into a hospital? Do we know? >> No, the only the last time is the accident. The car accident. >> Do you guys know uh who's her boyfriend? >> Well, the one that we don't is Marshall. >> Marshall >> Jones. Yeah. >> Family can tell you who someone was. boyfriends tell you who they were with, what they were doing, and what they weren't telling anyone else. So, naturally, one set of officers head straight to Marshall Curtis Jones. Small pause here. If you like these videos, hitting subscribe would mean a lot. We're incredibly close to 1 million and your support helps more than you know. >> How y'all doing? >> Hey, you know, is Marshall home? >> No. Yes. >> Yeah. >> Okay. How y'all doing today? >> Good. We're going to be playing. >> Okay. >> These are friends. >> Y'all be safe. Be careful now. Okay. >> Hold on. All right. Hey, brother. >> Marshall. >> Yes. >> Hi. Officer County. You got a minute? Can I talk to you a minute? >> Um, yeah. Let me just go turn the alarm on. I'll be right back. Hey, it's fine. >> Hey, I hear you know Alexis. >> Yeah, I was going to say Gabe. >> Gab, I'm sorry. Gabe. >> Gabe. Yeah. No. Um, her mom told me that she didn't come home. >> So, yeah, cuz I spoke to her brother and friends and they're concerned. >> Oh, I'm concerned, too. >> When was the last time you spoke to her, Sar? >> Um, you know what? I can >> I'm the same way. Yeah. Um, so show you my call log. Uh, I talked to her throughout the day. Yesterday, I want to say 6:38 is when she told me that she was outside. Um, she >> here. >> Yeah. >> I let her in. We hung out for a couple hours. She left around 9:00. Marshall tells police they hung out just one day before Alexis vanished. Her family believed it had been nearly 3 weeks. So whether it was intentional or not, Marshall has placed himself much closer to Alexis's last known moments than anyone else. >> Um do do we know when the last time they've seen each other is? >> Um when we uh when we have a PCR test. That was uh when is that? Um that was after uh new year. >> Okay. >> We all uh >> beginning of January. >> Yeah. We all uh we all cuz we are all um um uh my uh my my my son's girlfriend got positive. So we all go to the um water park to uh to get a PCR test. So Marshall's with us to that time. And I didn't know that they already broke up, but uh he went with us >> to take the PCR test. >> All right. Um >> so that's the time I panic. And then I call Marshall because I know she's always with Marshall cuz I thought they were still together. >> And I called Marshall and she said, "Yeah, she left at 9 p.m. in the house." >> Left his house. >> No. Yeah. At this point, no one is accusing Marshall of anything, but it's becoming obvious that a lot of answers seem to live in his direction. >> You say she left at 9 >> around 9. I'm not going to tell you that. >> Got you. Is >> Thank you. >> Hey, do you know what she was wearing last night or >> um >> Do you remember what she was wearing? >> Off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you. >> Did she say where she was going? >> Um yeah, I can show you text messages. She said that uh >> the more you can give me the better, man. I >> Yeah, I was about to say I remember her saying this is from today. It's not delivering. I've been trying to call her. Um I was like, "Are you still coming over? You must still be sleeping." She's like, "I can only come by for a bit today." I was like, "Okay." Um cuz she was doing some other stuff for her job that she was doing some running around for. Okay. >> And then I remember her telling me that she had to go meet with her brother, which is another reason why she had to leave early. Okay. >> So I was like, "Okay, man. Okay. Any idea what she may be? >> You know, brother, I'm keeping it buckled with you. >> I honestly thought she went to go smoke with her friend Ria when she left here. >> Ria. >> Ria. Maria. Ria. >> Oh, Maria. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Um I thought she went to go smoke with her cuz usually she won't tell me, you know, what she's doing till she's already doing it. >> Mhm. Um, so I thought she went there and but then when I kept on call by like 11:00 and I wasn't getting anything. >> Okay. >> Do you know anybody else you may hang with? >> Um, >> Ria >> I know. I met Morgan. >> I say maybe Morgan >> female. I don't know her. >> Eileen or Elizabeth, whatever her name is. Yeah. >> I met her brother. >> Right. Um, other than that I don't I don't know. Did she did she seem out of sorts when she came over yesterday? Was she her normal self? Whatever that may be. >> Yeah, I mean she came in, we hugged, we kissed, we >> she watched me uh, you know, do my little heist on GTA, you know, Pokemon my game and whatnot. I mean, we had sex, we watched Family Guy. >> She was fine. >> When she left, did you did you see her did you see her leave? >> Um, yeah. And I say, "Yeah, because I mean I opened the garage door, she left, so I mean >> Okay. Oh, so she through the garage door. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> No. And you'd have no idea where she may be. >> I have no idea where she could be. I was texting her mom trying to figure out if she got in contact with him. >> Yeah, cuz no one's uh seem to be able to get a hold of her or know where she's at. In the last hours before her disappearance, she was in contact with two people, Maria and Marshall. Alexis spent over 27 minutes with Maria. 10 minutes after Maria left, she facetimed Alexis to pick out an outfit. Everything seemed normal so far. And then she left to meet Marshall. >> So >> 6:40 to 9:00. So he says that she left at 9:00. >> His house. >> Yeah. in his house at night because when I call her I said this woman I said yeah she left last night and I said what time I said 9:00 I tried to call her to to find out she's got home she's uh she's not answering the phone and I thought she just passed out she's sleeping and then when we check the calling log we don't see any call from him around after 9:00 the last time the lag in a call log that we we found is 8:30 something. >> You have access to her phone remotely. >> No. Uh just the you know the history. >> Okay. >> On the on the because we are have a family plan so we can see the >> So the last call was to him at 9:00. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And she's saying that she left and now we're back home. The text is going through because it's already blue. >> Uhhuh. >> But every time we we call her it's off. It's automatically going to the answering machine. >> Okay. So, she went through her text but didn't answer her phone >> and then her phone is she ever talked about, you know, going somewhere else, living somewhere else, running away? >> She always come home. She always come home late but she is coming home. Every time if I if uh if I text her, you know, um multi multiply text, >> she will reply. She's not going to, you know, and then she never turn off her cell phone. Never. >> Okay. >> When a highly social person vanishes without warning, investigators have to stop assuming coincidence. Something was very wrong. >> Do you have a card? I want you. >> There you go, sir. >> Thank you. >> Uh if you hear from her, >> obviously, I'll let you know. >> Yeah, cuz she got folks worried. She's got folks worried. Um, do you know anybody new coming to her life? Like any new friends or she has the same old same old group of friends or >> Not that I know of. Same old group of friends that she's known since. >> How long you two been you guys you dating? >> Yeah. >> How long y'all been together? >> Like three going on four years. >> Okay. All right. Okay. >> And that's why again I was trying to call him like, "Hey, I don't know what's going on. Her mom called me earlier and I was like, no, I haven't seen her, you know, and I keep trying to call Okay. >> And I showed you my call log as my >> You ain't got to strap down on the house like a slave or nothing. >> No, I know. No, I know you have to ask because serious situation and I appreciate you trying to make light of it, but no, >> I do not. >> All right. All right. Thank you for your time, Marshall. If you do hear from her, bro, >> I will not hesitate. Drop some. >> I will not hesitate. >> Thanks, sir. All right. >> The officer leaves without answers. What? No one realizes yet, though, is that the answer they're looking for isn't far away at all. It's waiting just a few blocks from Alexis's home. Alexis's father was desperate to find her and took matters into his own hands. He sent out a group text to family, friends, and neighbors, asking everyone to help search for her. Soon, a message came in from Alexis's cousin. Her car had been found just 5 minutes from home. The vehicle is immediately towed and secured as evidence at the Oakley Police Department storage facility. Finding Alexis's car shifts the investigation back toward the people who knew her movements. And Marshall is suddenly impossible to ignore. >> Hey. Um, >> I'm detective minister. Are you Alexis's uh >> boyfriend? >> Boyfriend. Okay. What's your name? >> Marshall. >> Marshall. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, we're still looking for her. Have you heard from her at all or >> I have not. I've been trying to call her. I've been texting. My text messages aren't getting delivered. My >> phone calls are going straight to voicemail. >> Gotcha. Okay. I guess did you speak to the officer what yesterday or >> Yesterday? >> Okay. And I haven't talked to him yet, but what what did you uh >> um >> what happened exactly? So, I guess you talked to her Wednesday or something or >> Yeah. Um if you give me a second, I go get my phone. I can show you when she called me and >> Okay. Yeah, sure. >> Just give me one second. Yeah, >> the weather that day was cool, noticeably so, which is why officers take note when Marshall appears unusually sweaty. Some family members later say he is just oily skin. The weather is cool, but Marshall apparently isn't. Yeah. >> On Wednesday. >> Wednesday. >> What car did? She has the uh uh Infinity. Infinity. I think the Z37 something like that. >> Okay. remember where she parked it. >> Um, you'll park over there. >> All right. Um, see, so yeah, basically at this point, like I think this is the last place that we know that she was at, >> right? And >> so we're just obviously that's why we're kind of keying in on this area, you know? >> I understand. And like I was telling her mom like, "Hey, I saw her. This is the last time." >> Yeah. you know, and I just I'm worried, right? >> You know, and it's she's missing and that just means that she's missing. It doesn't necessarily mean something happened to her. So, I'm really trying not to let my mind wander. >> Her friends have I'm not going to say they've been putting me under scrutiny, but they make they're making me feel like I did something and I didn't. >> Yeah. Anytime boyfriend, right? And and that's what I'm saying. You know, everybody handles stress different, you know, and so I just >> we just want to rule everything out. Anything weird to happen here. So, you know what I mean? Then we can move on to, hey, >> let's go look another area and see where she's at. You know, >> I understand. >> At this stage, Marshall is being looked at for one simple reason. He was the last person known to see Alexis. Being the last person to see someone before they vanish isn't a crime, but it does come with questions. However, there was an insanely solid reason to suspect him. >> Okay. >> And we just find out yesterday that they split uh uh last month. >> Okay. >> The friend said November, but uh the other boyfriend said it's December. >> Yeah. And they said that they end up not really good. That's why we report to the police right away because uh the friend said um Marshall threading uh Alexis if they going to broke up uh he's going to kill himself or going to kill Alexis. >> Oh, okay. >> That means if something really did happen, that house is going to hold the answers. >> You are you cool if we go inside and look around real quick? >> Um it's not my house. It's my stepdad's. So, I mean, >> yeah, I mean, I could call him really fast and see. >> Yeah, that's fine. Go ahead. >> And would you say that this is normal behavior for her or is this out of control? >> Um, what do you what do you mean? >> Has she ever >> like where you can't get a hold of her for a couple days and her family can't find her? >> Not days. There are times though where she'll she just won't answer the phone. Um, so I mean for example when she there's been times where she's been with Ria Maria and you know they've gotten drunk at Sony and they fell asleep in the parking lot and she didn't answer my calls for hours or go to a Larry June concert and they'll pass out in the parking lot you know or parking garage or something like that. Okay. >> You know, so that's why again when she didn't answer, I wasn't necessarily too worried cuz I was like, >> "Okay, that's she into any sort of illegal drugs or anything that worried about like her health." >> Um, other than her smoking weed? I mean, >> she a heavy drinker, a big partyier. >> Uh, she'll drink >> to the point where she she'll fall asleep in a car and not answer phone calls. >> Exactly. >> Is it more of like a recreational thing or like every night kind of thing or? >> Uh, it's like a everyday kind of thing. Okay. >> Hey, Dad. Um, Alexis went missing >> and the police just want to go through the house really fast just to make sure that everything's fine. Is that okay? >> Alexis went missing and hope they just want to walk through the house really fast just to make sure that nothing. Um, he said that one of you will go in, but you would like the other one to stay out here. >> No problem. >> Sure. >> So, I don't know which one of you would like to. >> Whichever whichever you prefer, man. It's really not a big deal either one of us. >> I was about to say honestly, you guys could roam. I don't care. I'm not. You got a flashlight or anything? >> I don't. Yeah, me neither. >> The officer checked the house and found nothing. And for the first time in this investigation, they encountered an uncomfortable possibility that maybe Marshall wasn't right focus after all. And then something strange happens. After days of silence, Alexis's social media suddenly becomes active, but she wasn't operating it. A man named Daniel reaches out, claiming his gang kidnapped Alexis. It's definitely dramatic, sudden, and totally unexpected. This update immediately set off alarm bells. The story escalated fast from gangs, kidnapping, threats to human trafficking, even the person operating Alexis's account begins demanding ransom, threatening to kill her if money isn't paid. Police start to trace the IP address, but in the meantime, Alexis's family and friends theorize everything they possibly can. They hoped it was just a dark prank played by Alexis. Or maybe it was Marshall. Even if it is Marshall and he did something to her, at least he would be caught. At least there would be some closure. But the IP address was somewhere in Europe. It wasn't a kidnapper. Instead, it was an internet scammer looking for a payout. This is the internet in a nutshell. The internet doesn't create evil, but it gives it better Wi-Fi. With the scam exposed and no real leads left, the investigation circles back to where it started. Without answers and without alternatives, officers bring Marshall in for questioning. >> Hold on. Yeah, we just we just want to uh clarify a few things so we can try and track her down real quick. You know what I mean? >> I understand. >> Uh but you don't want to talk to us right now? >> No, like I said, I'm on my lunch. I have to get back. >> Where do you work? >> Uh Idax. >> Idex. Okay. So, just put your name there. Where's that at? >> Uh which car do you have there? >> Uh the SUV. So, if you wanted to go look around for sure. >> Oh, the That's your car. Yeah. >> Okay. >> This you have it with you right now? That's why I said if you want to go look around. Okay. For sure. >> Cool. Thanks, man. >> Marshall hands over his phone without resistance. On the surface, this looks like transparency, but investigators know better than to confuse cooperation with innocence. >> And you said it would take about an hour. >> Yeah, it's downloading as we speak. >> Oh, you already started it. >> All right. Cool. Appreciate that, man. Any other places you think we should check for her? >> As I told the other officer, I thought once she left my house, she was going to hang out with Ria. >> Ria, um, not too far from her apartment. I don't know the exact street. >> In Oakley. >> In Oakley. >> You know her last name? >> Ria doesn't conquer. >> Ria. >> Yes. >> No, she stays in. >> I'm sorry. I didn't mean to just go in my pocket like that. I didn't want you to Do you know what you all have back here? >> Um, yeah. Blankets and whatnot. Uh, wait, do you actually have to search it or can you just look around? Cuz this isn't It's my dad's car. And >> well, you know, I mean, I kind of just want to lift the gate so I can see inside, you know? >> Um, that's cool. >> Again, it's not my car. It's my dad's. And you have my phone. So, I >> I can I can open the >> It's up to you. >> I can No, you're the one that said go check it out. So, that's why we're out here. >> Yeah. >> I thought you were just going to look around. into your >> I'll open the gate for you though so that way you can look inside. >> It's easy to offer transparency when you assume no one will accept it. The moment officers actually move toward the car, Marshall starts pulling back. >> We went to the drive-in, so tried to get Roomie some water. I mean, you can look in the bag. That's our chili cheese steak. >> Um, any of this hurts? >> Uh, no. cuz we would like to collect a DNA sample from her, right? So, we have a reference on file. So, was she back here? >> Uh, yeah. Like, I don't >> So, is any of this like would >> none of this is her? Uh, I don't I don't know. >> Uh, would you mind if we like took a blanket to test it or? >> Um, I would because Yeah. >> Unfortunately, because Yeah. isn't a legal argument or an explanation. Um, and does she normally sit up in the front seat? >> Um, yeah. Okay. >> Have a photo. >> We're not You don't want us to look under the blankets or what? >> Huh? >> You would like to look under the blankets? I don't want you to think I have a dead body or anything here. >> Cuz you were being all >> Yeah. >> Okay. This is your your stepdad or your real dad? >> My stepdad. >> Gotcha. All right. Cool. Marshall is kind of hinting that he's being careful because of his race. And while bias and policing is a real issue, investigators also have to deal with facts. And at this stage, the facts are what keep Marshall in the spotlight. >> So, yeah. So, about an hour. Uh, yes, it's going right now. Okay. >> You want to hang on here or are you going to get back to work? >> All right. >> All right. We'll see you in a little bit. This strange back and forth is enough for officers to pivot. So, they turn to cameras. And then they find something interesting. Marshall has already been asking neighbors about how much their cameras can see long before police got involved. As police pull more footage, a pattern begins to form, which was centered around Marshall, Alexis, and their cars. With the timeline tightening and the footage stacking up, investigators make a decision. They're going into the house. >> Oakley PD search warrant. Open up. Oakley PD search warrant. You hear movement. Uh again, >> Oakley PD search warrant open up. tool got the door. Multiple officers try to force entry, but the house refuses to give up on its secrets just yet. OCPD, >> come out with your HEADS UP. BRING US UP. >> Check the left. Check the left. I got a door on the right. Check that door. >> Left. Clear. >> UGLY PITY. COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP. SEARCH. Once inside, officers search every room, every corner. Nothing is overlooked because at this point, whatever happened couldn't have just vanished. There must be some traces inside. >> Okay. I got the garage over here. Opened over here. >> Right here. Yeah. >> Yeah. Right in here. I got a big whiff. >> Yep. >> Backyard. >> Yep. My name is Dr. David. The owner of this house just called me. >> Okay. Okay. What's relation to the house? >> What's my relationship? >> Yes, sir. >> Nothing. He just called me and woke me. I just got out of diialysis and said before he broke in his house. So when I come over here, so I'm here. >> Yeah. We're serving search war. >> Oh, okay. >> I get him on the phone. Y'all talk to him. >> Why did the homeowner call you just to come check on the house? Yeah, he alarm went off. >> No, he just called me and said uh police broke into his house. So, will I come over here and check on his house? So, you know, I'm here. >> Hey, Les. Uh, you want to talk to him? I got one of the officers here and you got a whole bunch of them here, man. Whoever. Okay, there you go. >> Hey, Lesie. >> Yes. Hey, is Detective Minister Oakley please? >> Okay. >> I just We're serving a search warrant at your house right now. >> Yeah. Doesn't look like it was on camera. You guys serving us. You got like kicked in my door and going through my house. >> Yeah. Yeah, we're serving a search warrant here. Are you in the area or >> No, I'm I'm coming from San Francisco now to come back home because I just been alerted by ADT. Why are you guys disconnecting all my cameras and stuff? >> Oh, we're serving a search warrant right now. You guys disconnected my cameras though. Why' you need to do that? >> Okay. I'm not sure how that happened, but uh we should be done in a couple hours and then uh >> Are you going to come home or >> I'm coming home, man? >> Okay. All right. Do you know where where your stepson is? >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Do you know where Marshall is? You know where Marshall is? >> Marshall's with his attorney going and what they do from there. I don't know. >> Okay. >> More likely they attorney is going to probably bring him down to the station at that point. >> You guys going through my house and stuff. What you guys are doing right now is not cool, man. This is not cool. >> Okay. Well, we're serving a search warrant. So, we'll uh if you're going to come down here, we'll we'll talk to you when you get here. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. I'll be there in a minute. >> All right. The officers have broken into the house and Marshall's stepfather, Leslie Clark, is clearly irritated. This is his house after all. No one likes their door kicked in. But annoyance doesn't stop a search warrant. And it definitely doesn't stop what's coming next. Because if officers were even considering cadaavver dogs, that means they were already thinking about outcomes no one wants to think about. So, first what I do is just let her go and investigate and then I'll detail her. >> Okay. >> Take that alarm. >> Yes. >> [music] >> What would indicate an alert? >> She went down. >> Okay. >> I should have said alarm. >> This looks more like his room. >> Yeah, I believe that's his. >> I don't even know where the poor guy sleeps. >> I know. Are we supposed to do the barrage or no? >> Um, I think so. Yeah. >> The stakes are now high enough that they bring in another cadaavver dog and then it happens. >> We'll keep that as a question mark. You saw her go up the wall here. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. So, it's just checking odor. As I said, you've worked cannon. So, we didn't get final. And that was the kind of thing where it's like I had some weird odor, >> but it's not all of her behaviors, which was more what we had there. And of course, you and I both know there could be you could have vacuumed up a tissue that had a bloody nose and that could be okay. Good girl. 20. >> The dog shows interests in the laundry room, but no body is found, which almost makes it worse because now the question is where did it go? After that, it was the officer's turn to check the house. >> It looks undisturbed. >> Are we agreeing? Um, must been opened before. >> I don't know. It's >> right here, dude. >> Yeah. This points straight out to the garage. So, that's the thing is like we got to check the crawl space. >> Anybody check inside that SUV or take a peek inside? >> I didn't see anything. It's locked. >> Okay, >> Scott, I'm going to have this door closed for a second. >> Get the flashlight. H. Does that look like blood in here? >> Yeah. >> Let me see. >> Blood air. Look it. >> Possibly. It also can be mowled as a front loader. >> If you ever wonder how obvious cleanup attempts are to investigators, this is it. Just near the laundry room, the officers could smell something that they later described as the smell of death concentrated in one area, and the smell was fighting through something stronger. Bleach. A lot of it. Outside, officers find six empty bottles of laundry detergent. Six. And here's the part that lands like a punch. The last trash pickup was January 26th, 2022, the exact day Alexis disappeared. So, whatever needed this intense cleaning happened after Alexis had been missing already. In the kitchen, they find a commercialized mop bucket. And interestingly, it wasn't there during the first search warrant. At this point, whatever the house has been hiding is about to lose the argument. Did he get all these cards >> or did neighbors give him these people's cards? >> I don't know. >> Neighbors probably. >> Look, look, look. >> Alarm >> notes. >> Yeah, it's probably cuz you got a attorney. >> No. Look, look, look. >> What? >> Staying with attorney. Alarm front door. >> He's making notes. Yeah, >> he's making notes of significant dates sometimes. >> And he's got all the guys that went around the neighborhood's cards. [music] >> 131 staying with attorney >> Steam. >> Then they find Marshall's notes, which is interesting because most innocent people don't document things like this. And most guilty people don't expect those notes to be found. Now they need Marshall. The cameras lead them to his mother's house. And that becomes the next chapter. >> Ugly police search war come to the door. Oakley police search warrant. Come to the door. Thank you. Fine. >> All right, ma'am. >> I had a testic daughter that sleep upstairs. I >> understand. Is she okay up there? >> She's okay. >> Anybody else inside? >> No. >> Anybody else in the house, ma'am? Any dogs or persons? >> No. To open my side um gate, we have to go through the garage cuz I can't open it from the outside. >> Okay. >> Okay. Marshall is long gone by this time. On February 2nd, 2022, he boarded a flight and disappeared. But these officers have to assume the worst case scenario that if he ambushes them or shows up, it won't end politely. That ambush will come, just not today. >> Antioch and Oakley Police Department. Anybody else inside Drive? Come to the front door now with your hands up. All right, we have stairway front all the way left and open area to the right. I'll block left and you guys right. >> Come on. >> Two open doors front and one open door to the right. You block right. We go straight. >> Yep. Two. bathroom. Someone take that small bathroom, please. >> Part of the uh search warrant is to grab your DNA. Okay. >> Okay. >> All it is is just a swab. You ever done like 23 and me or anything like that? >> Then what? I'm sorry. >> Like 23 and me or ancestry.com or whatever the DNA thing. >> No, but I' I've seen it on. >> It's the portion right here. Okay. You're going to get a copy of this. >> You wrote it. I've written nine of them. You've written nine books. >> You've written nine books. >> And uh >> how could you guys not know this? We You guys have known about me now for 3 months. I'm I'm actually offended that you haven't Googled me yet. >> I didn't know you were lying. really chatty. >> She's pretty chatty. I would I would talk about evening her straight. What do you know about? >> Yeah, it's true. Like if she's talking about this and if she says no. Marshall's mother is unusually chatty, cheerful even. But before they can form theories about it, they find something unexpected. >> That's the flyer that they probably left. >> See that? >> That's the flyer they probably left with. You may just have to ask her. >> I wanted to talk to you for a minute. >> Can she go back upstairs and go to bed? >> Are we good with her room? >> We'll just double check and then she can go back up. >> Are you Can we go out? Can you want to go outside? So, we're obviously here for a reason and there's a couple of reasons. Um, and let's go ahead and knock that out so we can get um her phone back. >> Uh, we're here for Marshall's mom. So, uh, we know it's here, but we don't want to tear your house apart too much and ruin a bunch of crap. Um, so if you could direct us to it so we don't have to like mess anything up. Like where where's the phone? >> It's upstairs in my closet in the green Hawaiian shirt if you guys need it. Now I have a question. What do you guys need it for? You guys combed it. >> Yeah, that was a consensual download on the 26th that Detective Corner did. We're only here for uh well, Marshall, but he's not here. >> Uh who he's on the warrant for DNA. Uh as well as you and then the uh and then the phone. And then we're going to look around in your garage a little bit, too. Um hopefully we're not too long. But uh so the cell phone thing, uh they went and did the the download. Um but some of the files got screwed up. So we don't like have everything. Um, so we need that and plus we know that he's had the phone after that. So that's the evidence that we're looking for. >> Um, that's kind of like the simple version of what happened without getting super technical. >> Um, >> and things like that happen when you download something >> all the time. >> All the time. >> Normally if we have it for a search warrant, we don't give it back. Like we take the phone, we we do our our nerd stuff to it and then uh and then we hold on to it. That way if we need to do it again, we do it again. >> Marshall is missing for now. But before disappearing completely, he stopped by his sister's place. And like many people who think they're being careful, he left behind more than he realized. >> You You would understand how somebody would feel if their child disappeared. >> Can I Can I be honest with you? >> Yeah. My heart has been breaking for that family. >> My heart has been breaking. I I know Alexis. >> Not know her, no, >> but I've met her. She is a very sweet girl. So, no, as as a mama, that has been my biggest thing with my family as a mother of a child of my own. I could not imagine this. and whatever you guys need and this process I'm willing to do because as a mother I would not want to live through something like this. >> Well, I mean the the easiest thing for us is like you know to be honest we we don't want you getting mixed up in something that you had no part of. Right. But obviously you're a witness to to this situation like you know history, you know like what Marshall has done after um she's gone missing. Um and just be honest with us because we don't want to be the ones that have to come here and arrest you for something that you know you have no part of. Right. Mhm. >> So, just start at the beginning from how you found out what what happened with Alexis to to tid today basically. >> Um, I will go pre >> Yeah. Go as far back as you are. >> Okay. Number one, I'm going to be honest with you. My brother's always been a little if he's always been an and he will tell you that he's an I'm the older sister in between my brother and my mom. They have always been to me out of out my entire life. This is the reason why I live. I don't want to being bothered. I have a boyfriend. I have a fiance that's an officer in the Navy. He's busted his ass for the last 18 years. I don't I don't um what you will see in my phone who took I'm sorry. >> It's somewhere. >> Okay. >> We have it. >> Okay. Um what you'll see on my phone is Thursday. Um he did contact me. Um he called me and asked me if I knew where to purchase a black light. Um I told him no. He asked me if I could look it up for him. And this is normal protocol for him. like he's not he is not a self-starting individual who can connect dots on his own and do his own I was like okay fine it whatever. My mother is the same way. Um I looked it up for him and I said the only place I can find one is on Amazon. Um between us both I'm the only one who has Amazon Prime. I have purchased things for him in the past on Amazon watches jewelry or whatever. So I honestly I swear to God I didn't think anything of it. So he asked me if I could have it sent to my house. I did. Didn't think anything of it. I thought that's a awful long way to travel for black life. He told me that he was going to Vegas and um he wanted to check out, you know, one of those little hotel shows where you can turn it on and see all the fluid and all the everywhere. I told him I was a bold for doing some like that cuz I wouldn't be able to look around the room and see all that everywhere and put my sleep but whatever it's your world. Um he came um to pick it up and he went to my mom's I think when he got here he was off. Um I don't think crazy. I see things. I feel things. And I knew that something was wrong. Didn't know what, but I knew that there was something wrong. Um, so he was supposed to go back to mom's for cuz mom was having a karaoke party. Um, but it took him hell long to get there, which is why I that which is when I think he wrote that. I think he came here, drove there, and wrote the directions because from how it looks, it's not something that you would find on Google Maps. Like, it's very precise. No, I didn't drive up there. No, I don't know what's up there exactly. I have my suspicions. >> The sister, Ariana, mentions something that looks like direction notes that Marshall left behind for someone trying to disappear. Marshall was oddly considerate. So, do you where's He's obviously not here. So, do you know where Marshall is? >> Canada. I do not know. >> Okay. >> I do not know. I've intentionally told him, "Do not tell me where you are. It's just this situation. I don't want to know." >> So, you're distancing yourself. >> Oh, God. No, not at all. >> Okay. >> Not at all. I just know this this is this isn't who we are. I mean, >> and we don't believe that. >> Yeah. Like, you better not. >> We We just >> You guys are just doing your job, >> right? We have to We have to try our best to get answers, right? So, >> it's I'm definitely not distancing my my son. I'm not >> Okay, >> that's that's not the reason. This just isn't who we are. um didn't get back there until really really late and mom called me and was like, "Hey, I need Marshall to come and stay at your house." And um it's like 2:00 in the morning and I'm like, "Okay, I guess." And [clears throat] in the past, you know, I've always told him, "If you need to change scenery, whatever, if you just need to pass your ass, it's fine." And so he gets here and he's still off but worse. And um I couldn't I couldn't sleep. I couldn't sleep. He was supposed to go back home Saturday. He was supposed to go back home Sunday. And finally I was like look it look I had company that was supposed to come over here this weekend. and I friends that were uh PCSing Delaware and her daughter and my son are really close and I said, "Listen, they're coming here tomorrow. You got to do it. You got to go." And um he did tell me that he had his gun with him. Um he had it in his backpack right there. I'm a gun owner. Whatever. I get it. But I have a 9-year-old here and I keep locked up. don't have your out here for the world to get to. I.e. my son. While he was here, that's when I saw the first flyer for Alexis and saying that she was missing. I saw it on Facebook. I'm still um in the groups out in Discovery Bay, Brettwood stuff. And I'm like, "Bro, what the is this?" and just and that's when I started putting the pieces together what could be and I said listen um I said you had me buy you like are you are you idiot I said my fiance everything he has is tied to house I have a kid are youing idiot it. I don't have any regrets. I said, "Get your tomorrow. You got to be gone. I I want nothing to do with this." In the process of me looking for my AirPods, I um was flipping up couch cushions and And as you saw, I have decorative pillows. I always put decorative pillows here. And his gun was underneath my um decorative pillows. And um I I lost sent my son back to my room. I lost and I probably should have said things that I shouldn't have said. I told I told him I said listen I made it abundantly clear I have one rule for you just like I had one rule for your mom when she came here. You guys don't like to follow other people's rules in their houses. My son gets hurt and implicated in any of this bullit that you may or may not have done. That's >> at this point there's no alternative explodation left standing. It's abundantly clear he's guilty. >> And you know what we're here investigating, right? Uh what what do you know? >> I know that the two of them had a solid relationship. I mean, for Valentine's Day, um, he wanted to get her an edible arrangement, but couldn't afford it. >> And so, he went and got the chocolate, all of the stuff, and me, him, and his older sister were at my old house years ago, >> and we built her an edible arrangement. >> I like that. >> I mean, that's the kind of guy he is. He's I've told him he was younger. When you're dating, you want to make sure that you are so good to her that she's going to be comparing every other guy she meets to you. That's how good you want to treat her. >> That's it's a good outlook to have. >> I mean, you know, if you want a good quality girl, you got to treat her like a jewel. >> Yeah, that's true. And you know, then you raise the bar for her and then she expects you to do better so you do better and then she does better and then the two of you can the two of you can grow. >> So, but yeah, that that's the kind of guy he is in relationships as I taught him >> good. So they always say single moms raise their boys to be the kind of men they wish they had married. >> Okay. >> And that that was my goal with with Marshall. >> Makes sense. >> So they've been dating for a couple of years. >> Um what about like her disappearance? Do you know anything about that? >> I don't know anything about it. I wish I did. >> I really wish I did. At the end of the night, end of the day, somebody 's baby is still missing. And if it >> I'd want you guys to do the exact same things you're doing, >> right? So imagine how they're feeling. You know, >> it's crazy. >> And she was sweet. She was always so so so >> on the surface, Marshall's family seems caring, mature, and cooperative. But beneath that calm exterior, there's restraint. Which makes sense because no family would want to believe that there's a killer amongst them. And if they don't believe it, they'd never intentionally reveal something sensitive. At first, my attitude is, I mean, as a black person, no offense to you guys, I get it. I get it. But also, as someone who's studying to be an attorney, come the on. if you had nothing to do with this, go talk to these people and be done. And I don't know if one it was I don't think it was one of you guys that came to my door. And was it you? Okay. Um and I had called up to Oakley to let you know it's it was in no position of me being defiant, me being obstinate. It was me just trying to observe. >> I didn't take it that way. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And we understand you're a family member and it takes you time to digest what's going on and >> and then ultimately that your human side comes in and you say >> somebody's child is missing like devastating like we have kids, right? Devastating. I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't know where one of my kids was. >> I mean the panic when you lose your kid in a grocery store. >> Yeah. So, no, I I get it. And ultimately, my thing is just find her. I'm I did not see it in person. I saw it when I every night when I was trying to go to sleep. >> So, you think he went to Vegas? >> No. No. No. I in my >> we know he disappeared off the map right for us. >> So we're not sure where he's at right now. >> Okay. Can I grab grab that piece of paper right there? >> This one? >> No, no, no. Lime one. Don't pay attention to the shirt quotes on the back. I think you guys would actually find them funny. It's never a war crime the first time. Anyway, [snorts] [laughter] >> I was a Marine. I get it. >> Um, you know, do going out to Russia and doing things that will probably be on the next Geneva conference. Anyways, um, I believe this is the number that was going to bring this up there to you guys, too. I believe this is the number that he's using. If you guys want to take it, that's fine. I do want to make since my attorney is not here, I really want to make it abundantly clear. I am not willing to testify to anything. >> Yeah, we're not asking you to. >> Okay. >> The sister at least is as transparent and forthcoming as she can be. >> You're your mom and Marshall are close, right? >> Yes. And >> but my mom isn't I hope my mom is not an idiot and actually knows where he is. Okay. I pray that my mom is not an idiot. However, my mother does not listen to me. Yeah. >> And I think you can see I'm probably the more rational amongst us all. >> Yeah. >> Which is really unfortunate. >> Do you think that she's helped him out in any way? >> Will she get in trouble? >> I hope not. I mean, I hope in the end of all this she'll be as cooperative as you are because ultimately your brother made the choice that he made. Yes. Right. >> You guys didn't make that choice for him. No, that number is on her account. >> Marshall's mother knew something. Maybe not everything, but enough. >> Has Marshall told you anything about the night that she went missing or anything? >> Nothing more than he's told you guys. >> Cuz I mean, obviously we're still looking. >> She's still out there somewhere and things don't look good. Uh >> still top priority. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. There's >> Have you guys thought about maybe she was human traffked? >> Have you guys found that angle? >> I've heard that some people posting stuff on on the internet and stuff, but a lot of people are not they don't have a good grasp on how human trafficking works, >> right? >> You can't just snatch up a 24 year old 170lb female. It doesn't work like that. It's more grooming, manipulation, getting into people's mind. And Tyler does a lot of a lot of sex strand stuff. >> Um, I've helped. I do. >> You want to sit down, baby? >> I'm okay. >> Thanks. >> I have I feel like I might not be able to get back up. >> I know. Is it the knees? >> Uh, it's everything. >> Oh, it's in Iraq twice. >> Oh my gosh. God bless you for making it back. >> Yeah. Thank God. Right. >> Yeah. and and in in one piece. >> Yeah. >> So, when when he came back at 2 o'clock in the morning, were you awake when he came back? >> I had to let him in. >> Did Did you notice like was he muddy? Did you notice anything on his clothes? >> Okay. So, it didn't look like maybe he had dug a hole somewhere that you noticed. >> And how was he acting when he came? >> He was off. >> Off. >> He was off. It was not It It was him, but it wasn't. It was him, but it wasn't. And I know that him and Alexis had gotten into some spiritual stuff. I'm inclined to believe that it was they he bit off a little bit more than he could do. Um, >> like Christianity or like >> Yeah, like um dark spirits, demons, and stuff. I usually uh I usually save my house every Sunday. He told me not to cuz his friends were here, >> but he was alone. >> When you say it was off, how I mean, what do you mean by that? How would you describe it? >> I mean, his eyes were wild. Bloodshot red. >> Any alcohol in his breath? Like he'd been drinking? >> No. >> Tired? Maybe. >> Tired? Maybe. I I've been tired as for the last month. If you really want to know, >> Marshall and Alexis were on again, off again, and now there was a new variable. Alexis had a new boyfriend, D'Angelo Hudson. Suddenly, everything starts making sense and Marshall's motive gets highlighted. >> What was their relationship like between Alexis and Marshall? >> So, in the beginning, cuz I think they were there for like together for like three years. um very he was very loving, very doing on her, which was different cuz my brother's an and I've heard him be and to his previous girlfriends. Um I've even talked to some of his previous girlfriends and I'm like look like this kid at the time I was dating somebody who worked for UPS. I was like this kiding lives in his parents' house. My boyfriend has his own home and has been working for UPS for 13 years and he doesn't talk to me like this. So, you need you probably need to make some different choices. Um, it did become this was after I left, but it did and I mean well even while I was you know was around more she would clean for him, she would cook for him. I gotten in her cuz she used my cast iron skillet to make him eggs and left my cast iron skillet in the sink with water in it. >> Oh no. >> That's a mortal sin right there. >> That is a sin. >> Um told her I was going to kick her. Anyways, um it got toxic over the last year, year and a half. And what I mean by toxic is that makeup and or that breaking up and he's like upset and sad and soggy about it and then out of nowhere and how I find out that they're back together is my dad is like less he was like I just saw a car at my house like they're what? Um I do know right before Christmas supposedly they had broken up again. Um cuz they broken up I think early October, late September. Um and um and it was before I went to Mexico because my dad came to fix my toilets before I went to Mexico. Um, and he was like, "Herit was at my house last night. I don't I don't I don't understand what her brother's going through." So, um, but it was a lot of that. It was a lot of that. I will say he was a lot more torn up about them breaking up than about her being missing. I will say that [clears throat] irrefutably. >> Is that normal for him to kind of lack emotion like that? He's an [laughter] >> Not like a sociopath. >> I honestly would believe looking back on it, my brother does have sociopath and narcissistic tendencies about himself. If it doesn't matter to him, it should it shouldn't matter to anybody. >> Okay. But she mattered to him. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> She mattered to him deeply. He didn't want to live without her. and worse, he didn't believe she had the right to live without him. Yeah, it's hard to it's hard to look that family in the face and tell them, "Hey, look, we we don't really have anything to tell you." But it's uh we just go off any little lead that we can get, right? And we're wondering Marshall's behavior because he was the last person that was with her. >> He himself confirmed it, >> right? So, we're we're thinking, why have you not been in contact with us? Why the lawyer? Why all this stuff? We want him to be able to tell us just level with us like like humans, right? So, >> well, you you guys know why the the lawyer I mean, he's a black man in America. Come on. >> I don't I don't I don't subscribe to that. No, I I don't I don't think that that's the case, right? Like, >> I understand >> if it was anybody. >> I understand that you guys don't, but in my community, >> I get the perception. I get it. >> I understand. But it's I mean I'm not I don't want to get into a whole argument or discussion. >> It wouldn't be an argument. It would be a discussion. I I >> appreciate that. I like it. >> Um but it honestly in this case it really doesn't have anything to do with it. >> We're literally following the evidence. It's not >> Yeah. >> And these guys talked to him no problem. >> Officer County talked to him. >> Yeah. I mean he was fine with us so that's >> Yeah. Who knows? >> But surely You can see it from the other side. >> I sure can see it from the other side. >> But we'll table that. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, I mean, in the coming days after she was reported to us, what kind of contact did you have with him >> with Marshall? >> Yeah. >> A regular contact. I talked to him maybe every other day or so. >> Talk to him on the phone or see him in person. That kind of >> talked to him on the phone. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Um >> and he seemed he was fine. He didn't seem off at all to you or anything. >> Was he defensive after, you know, he talked to us? Because he was like, "Why are they wanting my phone? Why are they wanting all this from me?" >> So, he wasn't like >> he wasn't popping off like, "Why are they?" No. >> Okay. >> No. No. >> I mean, and is that something that you guys have talked about? Like, why are the police looking after at us and everything? And >> well, I mean it, you know, suffice it to say why you guys are are looking into us cuz again, he was the last person. >> Logic would dictate that's where we start, right? So that's the >> So I mean it's reasonable, >> right? >> It's reasonable. >> Okay. >> There's an instinct to be extra cautious, extra careful because of their race and they don't want to believe bias is shaping the investigation. But caution can quickly turn into denial. >> As someone who hears and sees things, I do believe that he is being afflicted by them because I could hear them myself. I am not crazy. I promise you. I promise you. Um, but yeah, the the issue is he's weak and he doesn't have the grounding that he needs to do for him to do what he needs to do. It's difficult to say whether Marshall was dealing with a diagnosible psychological condition. But at this point, that question barely matters because the evidence is piling up fast. And whatever this story leads to, it's not heading anywhere good. >> I mean, I'm just going to be straight up with you. Do you think you have Marshall had anything to do with this? >> Good. No. No. No. No. Even if there's evidence that would suggest that he has something to do with it, >> you guys would have to prove it beyond a reason. Obviously, >> but sitting here right now, I mean, I know it's easy for the mom to say that, but I have not seen Marshall get angry and upset to the point of punching walls or anything like that because again, he's been taught to walk away before it gets heated. Walk away. And that's all in alignment with, you know, like I said, how I've how I've raised him. No, you walk away before the argument gets heated. So it doesn't go too far. >> Absolutely. Not even the perception that it's going too far. >> That part. >> Yeah. >> Don't Don't even raise your voice. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I get it. >> Yeah. I don't want to leave you thinking that we are, for the lack of a better term, justing. >> I No. Oh, god. No. No. >> There's not at all. >> There's a reason. Um I mean, I can only leave you with that. I can't I can't like >> But that's even saying too much. >> You tell me. I I don't want I don't want you to like >> to just like I just said I mean we've we've done we've been both agencies here and the DA's office has we've all been working on this for 3 months now. We've looked every which way. Um and and here we are again. So um I appreciate you speaking with us. I appreciate you cooperating being pleasant. Um >> we don't we don't get that a lot >> to be funky. >> Yeah. I mean and being being upfront is just really appreciated. And just as the pieces are settling into place, Marshall's sister offers a quiet preview of a plan that was already in motion. >> Was that the last time you saw him was when he left? When he left like what you said Sunday? >> Monday morning. >> Have you talked to him at all since? Do you know where he went? >> I honestly don't. Um Well, I actually I lied. I did talk to him since um on the day that Les's house got raided. Um my mom's boyfriend I I was freaking out. Um one of the people who's helping with the efforts, like one of the community members uh posted pictures of Les's house with the address exposed all over Facebook. So I'm like going through reporting all of these photos of my dad's address. Um and um my brother did say forgot a crucial part. My brother did say that he's not willing to go in like under no uncertain terms. He He will eat his gun first. Not willing to do it. He will eat his gun or have you guys kill him. He's not He's not willing. I think, my personal opinion, he was planning for this to have been over by now. He was planning to already be gone. And >> by and by you saying that, you mean killing himself? >> When the murder charge was filed in May 2022, Marshall Jones had already fled California, but investigators located him in Kent, Washington. On June 1st, 2022, a fugitive task force attempted to arrest him. >> Go underrest. Do it now. >> Police door open the door. Do it now. >> According to authorities, Jones charged at officers with a knife and was fatally shot by law enforcement. With Marshall dead, there seemed to be no hope left to ever locate Alexis. But more than 9 months after Alexis disappeared, her partial remains were found in rural Amadore County on November 3rd, 2022, wrapped in large trash bags along with duct tape. Authorities believe that her remains were disposed of somewhere in the Sierra Nevada foothills near the location described in the notes written by Marshall himself. Marshall was already dead, but Alexis's family believed his mother was involved, too. In January 2025, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office announced that there was insufficient evidence to charge Jones's mother as an accessory after the fact. At least 70% of Alexis Gab's remains have been recovered, but parts of her body and the full sequence of events remain a mystery. The statute of limitations for an accessory charge has expired as of early 2025, meaning the case is largely closed legally, though the family continues to seek answers and advocacy.
