Donald Wayne Hartung has been convicted in the killing of his mother and two half-brothers. The state argued earlier today that Hartung killed them because he wanted the money in his mother's will. This video contains statements given by neighbors who live next door to where a triple murder had been committed. On July 31st, 2015, the Pensacola Sheriff's Office made a welfare checked at the home of Richard Smith, a 49 year old IT specialist for the Department of Homeland Security. His boss had reached out to officials. When Richard failed to come to work for three days, no one answered the door of the home Richard shared with his mother Von Seal, 77, who was widowed and retired, and his brother John Smith, 47, who worked at Walmart. The police contacted the next of Kin Donald Hartung to ask permission to enter the house after no one replied to their knocking. Inside authorities found Von Seal, Richard and John dead. Each body had been carefully covered in a pile of blankets and clothing. The bodies had been there for a few days and showed evidence of having been stabbed and beaten. At first Hartung had not been considered a suspect, but soon his story began to unravel. Thanks in part to the Chittenden. All right. So what's been going on? Okay. First thing there's some information here. There's some observations, and then we have a couple questions. Okay. The probate attorneys’ paralegal mentioned to me that she saw that there were some Homeland Security documents in the residence. And I told her that she should contact Homeland Security, and I gave her officer Palominos telephone. That's the only number I had. I do not know, that she didn't mention the nature of the documents, and I don't know if she contacted him or not. So I just thought I'd follow up on that. Okay. She also mentioned, and I'm sure you were aware of it, that Donald had gone up to see the creek Indian officials and had apparently been unruly and had been arrested. So you may want to check on that. Really? Yeah. Her name was Jessica. She's with the Bentley Fisher's office. But I'm sure you can contact the Creek officials there. But she relayed that to me about a week ago, I think it was. Yeah. I believe. But she is the one… [inaudible] that was recently. ...yeah. She's in charge of the cleaning and disposition of the property. Okay. If there's anything y'all need to take a third lookout, that third look at it on that residence you've got today and tomorrow and possibly Wednesday morning because the cleaning service is coming Wednesday to empty the place out. They’re going to be there for three days. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, we're done. What we doing. I didn't know. I just thought, okay. Let me ask you this. Why was the probate attorney's paralegal talking to y'all? Because I made it my business to talk to her. Paralegal should never have discussed this information with the Chittendens and the Chittendens should never have asked. Based on the way they speak, it seems as if this couple considers the neighborhood their territory and everything within it, their business. Okay. I was just curious as why they were talking to you, maybe if they're trying to figure out what you may know or something. I didn't know. No, very few no questions from that direction to my direction direct. I did not ask them anything. I was helpful to them. And I have been to everybody in the family, and there's an old saying, keep your enemies close. I mean, keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer. I want to keep tabs on what this guy's doing. I got a reason. Anyway, there's an issue about the keys that it, when they took the tape down that afternoon, Wanda and Buddy arrived pretty much immediately. I'm not sure if they had had contact with you all or not, it's not my information to know or not. Right. But, when they arrived, buddy went to the back door because they came over to us. We were sitting on the porch. They came over to us and engaged us some conversation and kind of walked us over there. While they were there. He went to the back door. I didn't want to go in the back yard of that house. And he went to the back door. They came around and said the fire department had used a credit card to open that door. I don't know how he would've known that, except from Donald. But, they then the next day when they came, they came early. They went to, they stopped near the gate. And he came over, I believe, I think he came over. We were on the porch. He came over and he asked me to look at the locks or something on the fence. And then because and I had told I think it was Buddy, I had told him, I said, look, I said, you know, for the duration of this thing, I'm going to run my tractor over that front lawn because I don't want that house to look [inaudible], I don't want it to look, you know, on Kim to something like nobody's there. For a number of reasons, we had all kinds of very peculiar cars stopping way deep into the middle of the night, getting out and walking around that property. So I figured the better it looks, the cleaner it looks, the better we are going to be. Okay. Well, I told him, I said, John, I'm going to run the tractor over. He said, well, he said, you know, I'm going to give you a key to the gate and you could do the back. I said, because we do have a snake issue out there. We got rattlesnakes out there. Well, he said, I'm going to Lowe's to get some locks. They went off to Lowe's, supposedly, I don't know where they went. Came back with no locks. Then they both went to the back door. They had a key to that house. Did you all give them keys to the house? No, there was the keys they got are the keys that were in the house. How'd they get them? How did they get in the house to get…? They jammed the door to get in, because we locked it when we left. And I told him, I said, you'll have to, I said, you'll have to jammed the door to get in there. The Chittendens are trying to take over the interview by turning around and asking the detective for more information that doesn't concern them. They may have knowledge that will help in the investigation, but that doesn't entitle them to learn anything that isn't known to the general public. All right. Because I had talked to him and I was like, hey, we're done. Y'all can go over there. What would you had to use to do that? Probably just a credit. The fire department used a credit card, so it shouldn't have been hard to get in. I didn't see this guy use a credit card. I don't know. I'm not sure. Anyway, but the keys were in the house, so they had access to the keys. Okay. Alright. Well then that's not an issue. They went in that house probably 10, 15 minutes and came out and said that Aunt Bonnie had over a million dollars and that there was $400,000 in just one account. I was wondering how the hell did they find that information so quick? Because if I had to do, there was some paperwork. It was laying around and they could find it pretty easy. Okay. Because that was, I was kind of surprised if I had to total up my assets, I couldn't do it that quick. I mean, I'd have to go to file cabinets and drawers and so on. Okay. So, you know, that's not a big deal. The day that the probate attorney first came Pine Forest locks came out there. When we came home, we had an appointment. We came home. He was sitting on our front lawn, walked on our front lawn, and I thought, what is this guy doing at my house? Okay. So I went over there and I said, can I help you? And he said I'm waiting for the probate attorney. Well, we got into a conversation. He was ex law enforcement and somehow we were talking and he said, I came out earlier around noon, he said, and there were three people around the automobiles. And I said, around the automobiles, around the house. He said, no, they were around the automobiles. They were only interested in the automobiles. He said, and I think he said it was a man and two women, but, you know, of course I didn't, you know, pursue it any further because that's, I don't know who they were. I didn't know if they were sheriff's people or you know. Okay. And nobody has been near those automobile. The only thing concern of the automobile is that those people from Texas, what was his name? Robert and Shirley? Robert and Shirley. The day of the hearing, which was Thursday, Tuesday. -Tuesday. -Tuesday. Yeah. Tuesday. Tuesday last week. Yeah. Because he came down here. Okay. They came directly to our house and they came up and started this dumping this information, conversation, whatever. What he said during that conversation that Donald was very, very interested in getting his hands on RT’s automobile, whatever that's worth. But that was him. And I kind of came out of the blue… Everything from him came out of the blue. I mean. We weren't really talking the automobiles or anything. We were asking them where they were from. And so we didn't know who the hell [crosstalk] we live out in Texas. [Inaudible] Fay [inaudible] and we knew Fay from before. But she said that he was very interested in getting his hands on RT's automobile. Okay. Now no one has been around those cars that we have observed at all. I mean, other than the locksmith saying and the news media guy open that one. That was it. No one has ever approached the automobiles. And which is kind of strange because the tan car, when I was cutting the grass, I think it was the first time my tractor developed a hydraulic leak and I stopped and got off and was looking at it. And then the light was such that I could see into the tan car and there was money in the back of that car. And I thought, why would, that's not a good thing because somebody sees that they're going to break into that car. So I told Jessica, I said, did y'all need… That's the probate's girl. Yeah. Y'all need to do something about that because the money's laying there. Somebody's going to pop their window and grab that money or something and y'all ought knew about it, you know? Nobody ever did anything. My knowledge is still there. Now we have been told by various people, family members, that Donald reported that the dog had transferred blood from the scene to his house. We don't know if that's true, that what they're saying is true or not. But here's what we know. When that dog came out of that house, ran around there was officers by the gate and so on, ran around like that and they pushed the gate too. And the dog attempted to get back in the house in the house, in the backyard, an officer picked up the dog -and I think must have given him to Donald. -He just handed him directly to Donald. To Donald. When he did, he handed the dog to Donald like that, Donald took the dog like this. The dog's tummy and paws were out. He came over to the car where we were standing because we were standing in the street at that time. And I looked at that dog very carefully because ex fire department, and I just thought, oh man, he's going to be have blood on him. I looked at that dog and I was surprised there was no blood on that dog. There was no blood around his muzzle. . There was no blood on his paws in the webs or the hair between his paws. I looked specifically for that. There was no blood on that dog. If there was any blood at all, it had to be long dried on his pads and pretty much the color of the pads. Because there was no collar on that dog. The dog was seedy because they had not been taking care of the dog. They used to keep him pristine, but after a while, they just didn't wash him very much. And he was seedy looking, but there was no blood on that dog. Now you tell… We figured that he was probably hungry and thirsty. So I asked permission to get him some water. Donald had put him in his car, but the windows were down like this. And I went in and I grabbed the dish I found was you know what CorningWare is? Was a white CorningWare dish. And I got it because it has straight sides. And I was feeding the dog in the window. Now he drank most of it I mean, giving him the water. But he'd drink some and then he'd run around the car and then he'd come back to, you know, to the window because it was awkward for him. He was up like this. In fact, at one time, he touched my hand trying to stay up on the window to get to the water. Anyway, there was water left in the bowl when he finally seemed to be finished. And I mean, I really would've noticed if there was blood, I mean [inaudible], it would've been repulsive. And he touched me. And when somebody was talking about dogs and dead bodies later on I thought, oh, and, but you know, there was no sign, nothing the dog had no blood on him. No. The Chittendens are fantastic witnesses. They take in every detail and somehow manage to extract information from anyone they encounter. As neighbors they're less desirable for the exact same reasons. Which is kind kill you because… Who told you that? Family? Which one do you remember who in the family told you the dog? Wanda was the first one that was saying… She was first. Oh. And there was blood all over the place. That's Wanda. I mean, I'm sure you've talked to her. But I talked to her this morning. Yeah. Probably every minute of every day. But that was, we thought, well, you know, we don't know if that's an issue or not because we don't want to know sensitive details. We never discussed with him. No. Right. They just, you know, hey, all you have to do is sit still. Oh yeah. And you going to find out more than you ever wanted to know about everything on the planet. Well, let alone now. Okay. During the visit with Fay, came over with the people from Texas. She said that after the search of Donald's residence that she, Wanda and Buddy were at the house and Donald stated to them regarding the search, if they're so good, why didn't they find these? And he produced a machete, a knife, and a baton. Okay. And she said that disturbed them mightily. They left as soon as possible. Right. And she told us the same thing. Okay. All right. Now this is the one that it's been disturbing me. Do you have incontrovertible proof of what time RT could have gotten home? By incontrovertible, I mean, do you have video of him checking out of his work timestamped, or a timestamped receipt or something that is incontrovertible. I do have that. Okay. That's good. Because, you know, I'm looking at that timeline. I'm thinking, man, because I saw him come home and I saw Donald arrive that day and I saw Donald leave that day. Now when he left, usually when he arrives he doesn't drive very fast. And he comes in and goes away. Is he Donald or RT. Yeah. But I saw him and the next thing, later on I saw RT. I saw him come home. I saw Donald leave, but I did not see him face on, off side, direct side. He was already past our post on our porch, which was kind of a three quarter backside view of him. The thing that I noticed when Donald came, because he did not have his dog with him. And he always had his dog with him. The dog always sat in the front passenger seat of the car, didn't have the dog with him. During the day, and I remembered what I was doing during the day. I was at, back in my back lean too. I had gotten a new tool chest and gotten some socket arrangers and I had a lot of sockets. I was arranging my sockets. I did see him come out very early on, come out and he smoked because that's what he did. He would come to that house on a Tuesday, stay inside about 20 minutes or so. Then he would come out and he would smoke and then he'd go back inside. He'd usually be playing with his dog too. Well, usually the first time he would come out and smoke and then like 20 or 30 minutes later he'd come out again and smoke. And then he would play with the dog, his dog. Now the white dog Bear was never out in the yard at the same time as Donald's dog. They kept him inside or something. I don't know. But anyway, Donald would fool with that dog. Well, I did see him come out and smoke that afternoon, early afternoon and that, and I was doing my soccer. I was having problems my foot, I have plantar faciitis and it got so bad that I said I can't do this anymore. That's concrete back then. So I stopped and got something to drink and sat on my porch and sat on the porch for the rest of the afternoon. And I think probably, you know, it was after RT came home. But I cannot tell you what time I wish I could… It's surprising that there is something that Chittendens haven't noticed since they've taken overly keen interest in everything going on around them. I wish I remembered what time Donald left, but I can't remember. Let me ask you this. Can you remember if Donald left after RT got home? It was after RT got home, I'm positive that it was after RT got home. But you just don't remember the time? I don't remember the time. It was not out of the ordinary. I mean, it was something that normally happened. So I didn't make a notation of time and didn't matter. You checked the sunset times yesterday. Oh yeah. Yeah. But he did not leave in the dark because he did not have his lights on. And sunset was at 7:46 PM. So yeah. Sunset. So it probably wouldn't have gotten dark till after eight o'clock. It was, yeah. Still was twilight, and it was a fairly clear day that day. It was hot as hell, but it was pretty clear. But he didn't have his headlights on so it wasn't dark enough, you know, to be iffy with lights. But I wish I could remember what time it was he left. Man, I just cannot do it man. Let me ask you this. How long do you think it was after RT got home that he left? I went inside. I don't remember what I was doing, but when I came back out, he was leaving and I don't know how long it was inside. I don't know. Do you think it was sometime or was it very soon after RT got home? Oh, it was probably sometime. Not I wouldn't say hours, but… But it wasn't like five minutes either. No, I don't think so. No. Because he would've had time to park and all that. I didn't hear Donald's car start. So I must have been in the kitchen or something and it was probably, we were probably starting to work on dinner or so I would imagine. But when I came back, you know, and I helped her a little bit, but my foot was hurting so bad. I said, I need to go sit down. So I came back out to the porch to sit down and that's when I saw him going out. Don't know how much time I was inside. I wish I did. I wish I did. You said without the dog and he probably not smoking. No, he wasn't smoking. Because you, you know, when people smoke, how they hang their hand out the car and they flip, he wasn't doing that and he was not speeding. He was the same speed he always goes. So, you know, but time I just wish I could man. And, but I can't think of any reference even, you know, that would've been accurate enough to give you some idea of what time. Did you get to the cigarettes on inside? Yeah. Okay. I'm sure y'all know what kind of cigarettes he smokes. No, when I ask it that way, cigarette residue in the house because he was a heavy smoker. I mean, he constantly was coming, you know, in and out, in and out to smoke outside. So obviously he wasn't allowed to smoke in the house. But if there was cigarette residue in that house, then he had a cigarette while he was waiting for RT. And now I'm sure you made a check of RT's telephone to see if he had gotten a telephone call prior to or as he was coming home or something. Because the way he parked his car and the fact that he went inside door if he did, and we were told, we were told that he had gone in the inside door and that he was dispatched in that room. That wasn't what he did. He did not do that. I mean, that's not the stuff that he did. The only time they opened that side door, that RT opened the side door was when he and John would bring soft drinks or something from John's work, I suppose, and put it in that room. That was not a door they used, they did not use that door. And for him to use the door had to be a reason. And you were just told that he did that. And you were just told that he used that door that day? Well, we were told that he was down in that room. Oh, okay. I got what you're saying. Okay. Which meant that he entered that door and that's where it happened. That that was very unusual behavior for him. And the fact that he did not square his car up. There was something that he was, maybe he had to pee, I don't know. But I saw him, I guess during the duration of the time that we lived there, it had to be hundreds and hundreds of times, if not a thousand, he would drive that car in, make that sweep back the car up and nose it directly at the house. That car is not nosed at the house. It has not been moved. But that car's not nosed at the house. Well, I looked out the wind, I kept thinking that something's wrong, that don't look right out there. What is wrong out there? I know what's wrong. You can see beside that car, never, never, he always backed that car up and nosed it in straight. So he was in a hurry, whatever that was. And whether it's a [inaudible] or not, that car was not parked the way it, the hundreds and hundreds of times that I witnessed him park in that car. That's my dressing room right there. Where you shouldn't... Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So anyway, and I'm sure that this doesn't mean anything during the visit with Wanda and the Texas people. No. Fay and the Texas. Yes. Well, Faye and the Texas people she showed me the death certificates. And who did? Wanda? Fay. Fay was there and Shirley. And Robert. I found that really unusual. I looked at the cause of death and the sheriff's transcript from the press. It was a blog. The detective shows patience as the Chittenden continue to act as if they're amateur sleuths. But this seems more like a fishing expedition for them rather than a witness statement. [Crosstalk] Well, no, I read the original, it was on the sheriff's website. It said that Von Seal had a blunt trauma. John had blunt trauma, RT had blunt trauma, each and every one. And that the neck’s had been slit each and every one. And that RT suffered a gunshot wound to the ear, which exited through his neck. The death certificates don't show that. And I don't know if that's important to you all or not, but it's just, just like uh oh, you know? Yeah. No, bearing on anything. I just wanted to double check because you know, when they bring papers in, I'm looking at them thinking this is official document, you know, I’ll better check and make sure that nobody has made a mistake here or something that could alter this course of this thing. It happens. I was in the fire department, believe me, people put down things on reports and then you'd have to go to court and you look at that and say, where did they come up with that one? Okay. Fay also said that RT's wallet was missing, just passing that along because that's something she said. I don't know, you know, doesn't matter. And they mentioned to us that RT had been a mortician. No, no. Donald. Donald had been a mortician. I can understand how he might be able to bear that and maybe sit there with those people waiting for RT to come home. I can understand that this guy. Okay. And not only that, his draw is off the track. Man, he is way off the track. I agree. Now this is our main concern. We have no way of knowing if the perpetrator knows whether we witnessed something that could convict him or not. We don't whine a lot, but it is concerning. And I don't think you have anything to worry about because whoever this is and this is just my way of thinking, if you would've witnessed something that wouldn't have convicted them or something, I think you would, that person would already be in jail. Well there's that. You see what I'm saying? There's that, but there is also his trolls off the track. Okay. And he may conclude things that not based reality or logic, but in case… Your name's not in any report anywhere or anything like that right now. But you know, when I do my case file, am I going to lie to you? It will be in there. Of course. Of course. Well we gave a sworn statement that morning. Right to one of the officers. So I mean, we understand and he was there pretty much when that happened. He was in the sheriff's car down there. So I'm sure he witnessed us. But myself, my wife Lam… Well, I mean we talked to all the neighbors out there. Certainly, certainly. I mean that's… There were four of us that morning we talked to him. With his mental state who knows. Now yet logically that should not be an issue. But I've been through a lot of strange events in my life and you know, you just don't know. No, you don't. You just don't know. All right. That being said, oh, we were also told by the probate attorney that Donald will inherit that house and the assets and so forth. Yeah. He probably will. And we don't know whether he will be our neighbor or not. And you know, that's a… Unless he goes to jail, he probably will be. Yeah. So, you know, this gives Halloween this year a kind of a different aspect, you know. But if something is imminent, we'll stand down. If it's not imminent, then we have to take the next steps in security for our lives and property, which involves now we've already upgraded of course the locks and the doors and all that stuff. But… The Chittendens are concerned for their safety, but the detective assures them that they're unlikely to be in any real danger. The next thing is a good guard dog. And that's a pretty pricey thing and it's a lot of issue. So let me ask you, and you answer me the best way you can and like I said, we are not here to get something sensitive information. We don't want it. And yeah, I think you will understand, we haven't asked you those kinds of questions. What would you do if your family were living in that house? I mean, y'all are both intelligent people. It's not hard to read between the lines of what's happened okay. With what you know and what you've observed. All I can tell you is I don't think there would be a reason for Donald to come after you or you, but who knows what the guy would do. Okay. That's enough said. But I would take precautions to protect you. How you would against anybody. Any other, any other threat. Any person. Okay. That's all I know to tell you. I mean... Logic would say that it would be stupid for him to do us because right now he's not in, well, he's sort of in trouble, but not really in trouble. Whereas if it continues… If he was to do something to you and draw more attention to himself. Right. But he's not, who knows logical. But if you do three, you do five. Yeah. What's one or two more? That’s right. That's one thing. Anyway. You know, so we'll, we'll do what we have to do. The question of imminence, is there anything imminent? I don't think so. Okay. Alright. Yeah, because we, you know, I mean one thing is those people in that neighborhood were scared to death. Because it's my understanding that the probate thing is still open. That the judge hasn't ruled on it yet. I don't know. I know they had a hearing last week, but I don't think a decision has final. No. That we understand that the, that that was strictly to determine whether the family members who had made an objection had any standing in the case. And apparently it was ruled that they did not. But that to our understanding, that’s all that really happened. And whatever is down the line, I don’t know. As a matter of fact, Jessica is at that residence right now. And we wanted to get back because she is pretty chatty and she does divulged a lot of stuff. But our neighbors are just really concerned and they’re all our age old, they’re frightened to death. My neighbor across the street hasn’t cut his lawn in four weeks or five weeks. He’s afraid to come outside. And he’s usually compulsive. Yeah, he’s compulsive. He does that twice a week. But we don’t want to, you know, any false hope to them or anything else. But, you know, would it be okay for me to tell them, look, they’ve got a handle on it. They know what they’re doing, you know, just standby, and we sit out, we sit out and we make a point now sitting out fairly late because a few of them have started walking when they see us, you know, they come over, and I know what that means, that they feel, because we are there, they’re safer. And, you know, I’m not that altruistic, but it’s a fairly tight neighborhood. I mean we… Everybody knows everybody. Well, not only that, but we have quite a few of us that once a quarter or once every two months we get together, have both dinner and so forth a bunch of us, you know, so it’s reasonably cohesive neighborhood. This son of a bitch has not only murdered those poor souls, he’s murdered this neighborhood because two of the person on the other side and a person down the block that put their houses up the sale and they weren’t going to do that. The young guy? The young guy. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. They’re running, they’re running and you have to know that they’re going to take a beating on the price because everybody in the world… What Chittenden is describing is common in neighborhoods where there has been a murder. People feel unsafe, panic and try to leave if possible. Knows what happened on Deerfield Drive. But they’re running and, you know, that’s pretty tough because that neighborhood is, I’m sure you all looked at it and said, okay, this is a stable neighborhood. It’s never been any problem here. You know, all of that. So we make it a point of being out there and trying to talk to the people and, you know, keep them under, somewhat under control as far as… I mean, we’re doing everything we can. Well and look, when we sent a letter to Sheriff Morgan and we stated how impressed we were and I’ve got, like I said, I got a lot of experience with incidents and law enforcement people and all of that. My last years in the fire department, I was assistant supervisor of communications 911, fire alarm system and all that. Spent a lot of time with the police departments and so forth and the demeanor and the professionalism I had opportunity to do interchange kind of programs all over the country with fire departments. And we’ve always met with the police and so forth in both those places, very impressive. I mean, we were really, everybody turned to, did their job. There wasn’t a lot of bullshit going on on that scene. I’ll tell you. We watched it, I watched it specifically. You know, there wasn’t all these big bull sessions and everybody just screwing off and all that, that didn’t happen. That was pretty intense. And we watched him carefully and we made a point of introducing ourselves to once like the night watch guys, we’d go talk to them because that’s a boring thing. And we’ve offered, we allowed him to use our restroom and so on. And we came away impressed. And, you know, because New Orleans police departments not necessarily the highest yard stick you want to measure or anything. We’re back at that time, especially, I can’t speak right now. But anyway, we were duly impressed and, we did write a letter saying, hey look, you know, these guys did the right job. They did their thing and you know, it’s commendable and we feel well served as taxpayers. That being said, you know, we still are thinking, Hmm, this what I want to do? Wake up tomorrow morning and see that asshole looking at me. Good God. And he’s, you know what? This guy’s a piece of work. I don’t know if y’all weren’t at the memorial service, were you? No. I was told about it. Yeah. From the Homeland Security guys. They were there. Oh, office of Palomino was there. He was in the back. Yeah. Did he tell you about this guy waiting in the Loreto Chapel until all of the eulogies were given? And he came out during the middle of the aviation chaplain’s prayer and walked up and down that aisle so everybody could see him. He had his little show going and then went over to the family when they were singing Amazing Grace. And when I saw him go, I said, you son of a bitch man. You got your dog and pony show in high gear. You know, and when he’s come to that house, he’s made a point of, and he’s blood stuff out. It’s like the probate people were talking, the attorney himself was there, Jessica was there and the locksmith was there, and we were kind of just talking about stuff. And in the middle of that he came and they said, I helped my dad build that addition on the workshop. Just out of the blue. And he was, you know, like, I love my dad so much. This is the same dad that he denied having as a father to my neighbors and so forth. You know, it’s like, all right, you know, keep up with that. That’s a good Broadway production you got going there. Well, there was that, I haven’t been here. You said when you came back. I haven’t been here since so-and-so. Oh yeah, yeah. It’s all a show. I mean, he’s, he’s trying to impress anybody he talks to and apparently he is driving the probate people absolutely batty. But you know, they say he calls every day. Yeah, I’m sure he does. And he Oh, that’s right. He told either the attorney or Jessica, there’s got to be more money. I don’t see where the money, where has all the money. And that’s from them. Some of the things Chittenden is revealing will have to be verified with other people to be of any use since he did not see or hear them himself. And without, out of the way, let’s get back to the case. Either she did or he did. I think it was Jessica said that that he was disturbed that there wasn’t more money or that they, you know, where’s all the money? And he thinks the house ought to be worth I think about 300,000. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He thinks that house you know, ought to be worth $300,000. Well he just made it worth about a hundred thousand maybe. He’s like… He did it to us too. Yeah. Thank you. Appreciate it. I ought to sue you for my loss in real estate. Yeah. Anyway. Is there anything that you could do or canine in the event that we do pursue a dog? Since we don’t have a dog, since we need really a watchdog, not a guard dog, it would just be nice to have a dog go in the house or something. But we don’t have this year or two old dog. And I mean… [Crosstalk]. Tell you what, well, I tell you who you could contact, you could contact Lieutenant Potts. Okay. He’s over our canine unit. And he might be able to give you some direction on where you might be able to obtain a dog or who you need to talk to. If a puppy’s not going to do as much good. Just tell him I told y’all to call him and he knows me. And he could probably help y’all with that. Yeah. That’s great. You know, I mean, because, and we’ve been… Yeah, his name is Lieutenant Potts and he’s over the K9 unit. Which I saw had gotten some kind of national award or something that that they had you know, for capability. So but you know, this is the way it is and this is part of life, you know. I would head to settle on dumb on Deerfield Drive. I mean, come on guys. You know. Is there anything else? That’s it. Okay. We you know other than to tell you how much we appreciate you taking your time to anytime talk to us and to some degree a lay out concerns. And you know, I don’t feel that it’s necessary for us to call you all the time and constantly be on, you know, y’all got enough to do. Well, you can call me whenever you need to. Well, if you need to talk to me about something, just call me. If I don’t get to talk to you, I’ll call you back. You know, I try to look at this stuff and look at it and think, okay, does this make sense? Or you know, is this just clock from the [inaudible] bullshit? Well, in this case, you never know one might help. Well, again, that’s it. And that’s why, I mean, that’s why. The only buddies specifically and I’m sure that that was at the, because he was all far, you know, giving me a key to locks, which never showed up. Incidentally, the locks that’s on that gate was in that residence hall of someplace there because it’s a little bitty lock. And that was not something he bought at Lowe’s or anything because it was old. It was old. I looked at it when I came to the gate to talk to him, I looked at that lock. I thought that thing is old. It’s a brass spot. I mean. Yeah. I don’t really we have a question though. You came out and took a picture of the plate on the air conditioner. I thought about that. I said, okay, it’s got to be important some kind of way or else he wouldn’t have come out and done that. But you know, when the probate attorney went back, I looked at that recognition and I thought, okay, this this radio serial number plate and all that and the Amrick sticker. And I think I was the one that that told, I think it was Lieutenant Gilmore or somebody that the only two people I knew had gone in that house were Rocky’s Pest Control and the air conditioning people who had redone that system and those contractors. But I didn’t know who the contractors were, they redid the thing. I don’t know, they didn’t have any signs or anything that I could see on that truck. But when I get thinking about, what in the hell is that, how can that air conditioner play a part? Don’t want to know that. But that one. I got that thought. Hmm. Okay. You need to stretch your little gray cells because… It’s interesting. Yeah, well it was, you know, it was just... Just one more thing, just raise your right hand for me. Y’all swear and affirm the statement y’all made here today are truth and nothing but the truth? Absolutely. Alright sir. Thank you. Alright, let’s go downstairs. Appreciate you for coming in. I appreciate it. Now that the Chittenden seem to have run out of any potentially helpful information, the interview is brought to a close. Once the police ignored the ritual, like aspects of the case and treated it as a red herring, they were able to focus on Hartung who, although he had been left out of his mother’s will stood to inherit her million dollar fortune if his brothers died. Investigators interviewed the Smith’s neighbors to check Hartung’s account about his comings and goings before the bodies were found. He said that he’d left the home before sundown. Neighbors recalled seeing his car there later than that and added that when he drove away, he kept his headlights off. One of the strongest pieces of evidence occurred when Hartung’s DNA was found on cigarette butts mixed in with paper towels covered in Von Seal’s blood. On October 27th, 2015, Donald Hartung was arrested on three counts of first degree murder. He was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences after the jury deliberated for only an hour. That’ll do it for today. If you like this video and want to support the channel, there’s a Patreon link in the description below where you can do just that. Thank you for watching. Stay safe.
