As it turns out, the entire situation is actually about a dog that has traumatized this neighborhood within a few hours. Where is it at, sir? I need you to communicate with me. You're not communicating and I need you to do that. Where's the dog? He's inside that door right over here. Okay, let's lock this so it can't get out. Inside where? That that brown door right there. >> He's inside of there? >> He's in there, yes, sir. >> Where is Where is the other Where is the other person? He's out front. My uh my neighbor said they couldn't didn't have time to take care of the dog and and so we said, "Well, we'll walk it back here and see if we can find the owners." And I was back here to talk with my neigh my tenant for a minute and he attacked him and then attacked us. Okay, so it's a stray dog? Yes, ma'am. You're good. He's He can drive. We can take care of it. He needs to be checked for uh for rabies. Okay. How bad is the other Oh, victim? Is she already gone? There's no one else in that area that would possibly let that dog out, correct? >> No. Okay. So it's a stray dog. When did it start? We don't know. Just today. Just a about an hour or two ago, my neighbor found it and was walking it around and she said, "Oh, I can't take it to my house cuz of the cats." And I said, "Well, we'll walk around see if we can't cuz it let us on a leash but then it went to >> go to the hospital get looked at? And it attacked him and me and my wife. Since the mysterious attacker has not been seen in this neighborhood before, this officer is figuring out the dog's identity. But it is a surprise that will break out later and shock them. Real quick, if this is the kind of content you like, feel free to subscribe. We cover a lot of cases just like this one. Now back to the story. So how did the attack start? Were y'all like feeding it or >> No, we were doing nothing. We were doing nothing. It's like As soon as it saw him, it attacked. >> They're going to what? And then it attacked us. I don't know. It's up to the hospital. They might look at it. >> your wife first, correct? Or did it attack him first? Him first and then we tried we we pulled him off of him and then turned around and on her. So the dog attacked him first then you and your wife tried to intervene and then it attacked you too? Mhm. Yeah. Okay. And he was the one that was trapped inside that climbed out the window, correct? Okay. And that was after the attack, correct? >> Yes. Okay. All right, Asbell, I got a rescue unit on the way. Did you want to go to the hospital? No? You don't want to, buddy? No. Like he said, your infection's going to be your major worry. Yeah. Yeah, you Definitely need some antibiotics. Yeah, you need to you need to go to the to the All right. And and that's it? Okay. Oh, man, you need Julie's legs are both tore up. Oh god damn. I'm the one y'all called on this morning. Up until this point, it appeared the dog had attacked only three victims. However, new developments suggested those might have been just the confirmed or successful attacks and the threat may not have been limited to this area. Get in the truck, please. We got this, okay? Is it your dog? No, it's not my dog but the dog chased me and my wife this morning tried to attack her on the front porch, tried to attack me in my truck. I had to pull my gun. My neighbor come across next door from me. >> y'all stay at? Right across the street right up I live on Lloyd Ford on my my address is on my >> What time was that? 2 hours ago. All right, Mr. Asbell, here's your ride. I'm not familiar with that call, so actually Okay, yeah, I think I You got my number, buddy. I'm not going to get >> with the gun. Off Lloyd's Drive, right? Okay. Yeah, so what happened when officer got there? After the German Shepherd seen it, the German Shepherd tried to attack me this morning. Well, whose dog is it? Do y'all know? I have no dog. Oh, y'all don't know. Okay. As more details emerged, the situation became more serious. The dog that attempted to attack a couple was identified as a pit bull along with the reported German Shepherd. If two different dogs were showing aggression, the situation is even graver than it first looked. This could potentially be a case of rabies. and on the front porch, I couldn't even get off the porch. I had to pick up a chair and trying to get anything to get the dog away from me. You don't want to get And I couldn't get it back in the house cuz he had the keys to the house clipped on his side. Around what time was that this morning? He said 2 hours ago? >> was around noon. Okay, that would be about 2 and 1/2 hours I don't know. So can you do me a favor get on the phone so we have three victims. The dog is locked in this uh trailer back here. Okay. Uh one victim's injuries are pretty bad. Um she's already been transported. Can you get on the phone with NCIC? Hotel 12, we're 77. Um yes, and get them to come out here to get this dog. Can we just use the emergency hotline for animals? Well, NCIC will be able to get them on the phone faster than that. The officers are scrambling to get things under control all while keeping an eye on the dangerous dog locked inside the shed. They think they've got a handle on the situation but a shocking turn of events is about to hit them much before animal control does. Do you have your ID? on my property and threatened me with a .357 this morning? >> Okay, so that's going to be a different situation. We'll get that officer What officer was it that was wanted? Was it a blonde female? >> the Home Depot. Dan called me to let me know that we were headed back this way that the law he's he heard this morning about him threatening with the gun. Okay. Let me You need to let me handle this. Okay, do you have your ID? Somebody needs to do Do you have your ID, ma'am, cuz the dog chased you, too, right? Okay, sir, hold on one second for me, okay? Are you going to the hospital? I'm going to, yes. I'm going to drive down. >> You're going to drive. Okay, so >> not I'm I'm bad but I'm not that bad that I can't drive. So let me just write this down real quick, okay? I'm going to have animal control come. Is it locked or >> No, it's not locked. It's not locked. So, if we just open the door, it's going to come out. Is that a shed or is that like a full-on house? >> him in the neck. So, hopefully You stabbed the dog? I had to to make him let go. >> No, that's No, that's totally fine. >> let go. He had her and and she's like, "Grab a knife. Grab a knife." And I freaking reached over and I stabbed the knife. >> is it still alive? I have no idea. Okay. But see, every time this happens Thank you. y'all come out Is there somebody else inside the house? Uh they're not anymore. He crawled out the window, but the dog is locked inside and one of the victims stabbed it in the neck. Okay. See, Dan, every time this goes on, they come out to the house and they say, "Well, you do what you need to do to protect yourself from the dog." They never do nothing with the dogs. Sorry. I I I don't know. I wasn't there, but I'm going to I'm going to help you. Just give me one moment, okay? So, the where the area of the dog is, is it a house or is it a shed? >> of a a shed apartment. Okay. But, how big is it? Like, if we go in there, is it going to be hiding or is it going to be able to see it? >> It's uh it's uh Is it like the size of this trailer? >> or it's uh 10 by 12 with a 10 by 10 little room addition on. So, it's L-shaped. >> just like a a shed. Okay. >> the one door doesn't open at all. The brown door I showed you will open. It's not locked. >> Okay. All right. >> And the last I heard, the dog was in there moving around. Okay. But, I don't know now. I don't know if he bled to death. I don't you know, cuz I What kind of dog is this? It's a German Shepherd. It's a stray. Suddenly, the officer hears the beginning of the story and it sounds nothing less than the 1983 horror of Cujo. With every second in, it looks less likely that the dog is in a healthy state even before the defensive stabbing. Stray? Yeah. How did it get in? Uh He was my neighbor got him on a leash and he was being friendly. And I was walking around to to try and find a home for the home the owner. And I stopped down here to tell my my tenant that hey, uh you know, I'll be back in a little bit. I'm trying to find a home for this dog. And as soon as I never even got to say anything to him. As soon as I opened the door, he jumped in. The dog? The dog. And then my wife heard us screaming and hollering as I He bit me. Huh? Does he have a collar? Choker on, yeah. That that was that was on the dog before >> Yeah. Before, yeah. Uh-huh. Okay. Somebody owns the dog. But, we don't know who. Yeah, we don't know. So, y'all let Y'all let it in the >> She had walked it around for 2 hours, she said. And nobody knew the dog. That's why I I you know, I didn't know he was turn violent. So, y'all y'all basically let it in. Yeah. You guys let the dog in with you guys, correct? Inside the trailer? >> No. No. No. No. No. How did y'all walk it in there? Uh He jumped in the my my tenant who was in the He opened his door and the dog just leaped on him. Oh, I got you. >> And it was inside. So, I jumped inside and jumped on the dog. I was trying to pry its mouth open. >> Sir, here's y'all's IDs cuz I'm going to put y'all down as complainants on this call since y'all were involved with the dog earlier. I'm going to send the officer that responded to you earlier. I'm going to send him back out to your address. Absolutely. Send him to my house. I want to press charges. Okay. And I want the guy next door to me for coming here and popping and threatening with a 357 this morning. >> Did you see it? Was the gun He said he had it on him. He did not pull it. I had mine in my hand because the dog was trying to attack me getting in my truck. Okay. And then his dog, the pitbull, always tries to attack me, my wife and my daughter who just left here. Mhm. Because our driveway is right on the side of it. Right. And they come out last week two or three times to attack people walking their dogs on our way. So, I'll have that officer come back and make contact with you guys. You're going to be home now, right? So, I'm going to call him on the phone. Okay. But, I mean, you have to be there for them to write a report, okay? So, Yeah, you want a report. >> I want a I want something done. Right. So, for it to be investigated There are only two officers at the scene. While the female officer updates her senior about the entire situation, they do not see the reason for him to be at the site. One of the victims stabbed it in the neck. To his knowledge, the dog is still alive, but it did attack three victims. One of them climbed out the window. So, two have been transported and the other one's able to drive himself. Can you call him on the phone? Hey. Hey. Hey. Don't go back You guys aren't going back in there, right? Uh really? Okay. Yeah. It's It tore this one lady up pretty bad. So, that would that would make sense. Oh my gosh. Okay. So, I don't know. The victim just said that he stabbed it in the neck. It was on a leash. Some lady was walking around with it. And uh it seemed pretty calm and she was like, "I can't keep it because I have cats." And they were like, "Okay, well, you know, basically he can hang out here." And then all of a sudden one of the uh They let this guy live in a shed in behind their trailer and he opened the door and the dog went in and attacked him. And then they tried to break it up and it attacked the the husband and wife. And he stabbed it. That's what that's what this victim is saying. Okay. Who are you? Shane Garnett's here now. Okay. As the description of the dog takes round, some people show up who believe that the dog might be theirs. God, it went berserk. I've never seen a dog go like that. It's a German Shepherd, too. Whose dog is it? >> Do you want me to We we don't know. As of right now, it's a stray. There you go, sir. Um in case the hospital needs that for insurance purposes. Okay, either way, I'm sorry. You can take this to the hospital. It has the case number in case the hospital needs it for insurance purposes, okay? Do you guys have any other questions? So, what's going to happen with the dog? We're going to take care of it. As soon as I get done handling you guys, I'm going to go take care of that situation. >> the dog that was running with it, though? The pitbull that No, there is no pitbull back there. As what? Okay, listen. So, these are going to be two separate incidents. That's why I'm going to send an officer down to your house to take care of that incident that occurred earlier cuz that's going to be separate from this. I got to handle this situation. Okay? So, an officer will go to your house and write that report. I'm going to handle this. We're going to get that dog out of here, okay? Okay? Thank you. I gave him a case card, but give him an extra one for Mr. Uh Mr. Bevel. Okay. Are you calling your friend? Am I? Yeah. The question is how are we going to find out if that dog has rabies? We're not worried about that, babe. Animal control takes care of all that. So, they're at the hospital. They're going to start the series of rabies vaccines. It's a series over a few days. Yeah. Yeah, but they'll also test the dog. They'll test the dog, but then they'll start you guys on a series of rabies vaccines. And then um Yeah. So, It's It's just precautionary. Yeah. Okay. Uh I'm not all right, but I'll be all right. Oh, man. Even though the officer says they will find out to whom the dog belongs, she might already have a whim about it a few minutes ago while talking to her senior official. Um once I once you guys Yeah, you're good to go. Um could you grab him a case card for me? And then um you can give them their DLs back. You wrote down his, right? Cuz I'm going to send the officer back to your house. >> his dog? Huh? No, sir. I don't believe so. Um And then here's your wife's. Actually, I don't think I wrote them down. K9 officers called me and they believe this is their dog, but it was stabbed in the neck by the victim and it's trapped inside of a shed right now. But, there are K9 officers on the way. But, I just thought I should notify you since this is going to be a JSO K9 possibly. There is a a 720 call sign logged on the call. I'm not sure who that is. But, it looks like K9's pulling up now. So, I just wanted to notify you in case you wanted to respond or notify whoever we need to notify. It's going to be a new one. I was like, "This may be something LT wants to know." So, The officer is going to have to wait to see what really hides inside until backup arrives along with a canine team. Which is still moments away thanks to poor civic traffic sense. God damn it. God damn get out of the way. GET OUT OF THE WAY. He's in a shed. What? We don't know. Have you heard anyone or anything like that? Yeah, he he bit three people. So, what are you guys doing here? Who called y'all for the drone? I don't think like he's in a shed. Who's y'all's supervisor? Huh? Who's y'all's sergeant? I'm on the phone with him right now. Who's 720? Do you know? Yeah, 720. I'm not sure who that is, but they're logged on the call. Where are these Where are these people at there? They're at the hospital. So, uh two at the hospital right now and they were taken by rescue. The third victim is driving to the hospital right now. Um so, I don't know if you want to notify LT. Um I would definitely. Yeah, I'll just Is your LT It's strongly It's strongly believed that it is because the canine handler said that his dog got out, which is right in the area of this dog and they're describing it as a German Shepherd. But, they're they're 10-97 out a whole bunch of them. Okay, bye. Hey. Yeah, so it's in the shed back No, they did. He So, this the gentleman lives inside the shed. He opened the door. The dog ran in and attacked him. The husband and wife tried to break it up and he attacked the husband and wife and they stabbed it in the neck. Okay. Yeah, y'all just Where Oh, this is one of the victims. We got it, sir. Yeah, y'all just stay back there for If you guys would just stay back that way or inside your vehicles, I don't want you guys to get bit, okay? Yeah, I'll show you exactly where it's at. Y'all just hang out here. We don't want y'all getting So, you go through here. That brown door right there. Right. It's in there. I'm going to go back to the other side. Huh? They didn't describe it. They just said it was a a German Shepherd. What did he say about the knife? Yeah, they said they stabbed it with a knife in the neck. They He didn't say. Um and he said he doesn't know if it's alive or not, but he believes it is. When I got here, I did hear a barking. I'm just trying to get all of them to leave because they're making a big big deal. What color was he, sir? Okay. I I believe it's a Yeah. He's not 10-97, but a lot of canine officers are. Huh? Oh, I don't know his call sign. I I don't know his call sign. Yeah. Yeah, but their sergeant is here. Um At this point, the situation is beginning to resemble a case of negligence and more concerningly, it appears to involve the very department responsible for investigating it. Oh my god. We haven't cleared anything. We never cleared anything. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, anyone inside here? Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, anyone inside here? I got a locked door right here. All right, I'm going to call Vicky and ask people at the hospital just to make sure. What you got? >> me to break this locked door open and make sure there's no Nah, I mean Nah, it doesn't look like anything. >> [applause] >> Okay. Sergeant James is here. So, they're they're going to try to get the dog out now. Uh we'll we'll work it out once we get out there. I don't have a sleeve. That'll work. You ready, my toy? This is the moment. They're finally ready to come face to face with what's behind the door, which is a dog that has already shown violent behavior and may be ready to attack again. Hey. Hey, good boys. Good boys. Let me see that. Good boys. What are you doing? Put that over there. Good boys, good boys. Where's your car? Good boys, good boys. Good boy. Want to put him in one of these patrol cars or Despite the stabbing, surprisingly, the canine is not only well and alive, but it is pretty cooperative now that it is back with the people it is familiar with. He's alive and he's pretty friendly. Oh, yeah, that's Oh, shoot. You need a two-man? Two-man? Uh dispatch two-man. Hey, did you call animal control? You can cancel them. What's up, Shane? Just Let him know his dog Let him know he's good. I don't know. Do you have um Where's your med kit? Flops. Flops. Where's your med kit? Uh my truck. He's bleeding. I I want to get this muzzle on him before I start [ __ ] with anything. You want me to unlock your truck? I just want to get some pressure on his neck. Flops. Flops, what >> we're not going to be able to do anything with him I just want to hold pressure. If we're I know, but if he starts going crazy, we're not going to be able to hold any pressure. I don't think he's going to go crazy. Loose, bud. He I mean, he's stressed out. Let's just leave him. He's happy with that in his mouth. All right. He's He's stressed out. >> by with a towel or anything? Yeah, I got mine. Yeah, we got him. We got him in the back of the car. We're going to transport to the hospital. He's good. He's He's running around. He's good. I mean, he's bleeding a lot, but Are we ready to go? Yeah. Come on, Flops. Yep. Come on, Flops. Flops. All right, bud. Come on, Flops. Flops, bubba. Mike, let's just roll. Come on. Is he good? Yeah, let's roll. I got all those. Flops. If you can get that muzzle on him, get it on him. Okay, thanks. Good? Yeah, let's All right. Flops. Hey, Flops. Good Flops, Flops. >> [sighs] >> The situation looks resolved, but officially, it has taken a complicated turn. No senior officer was present. The incoming unit assumed control of the dog. The primary officer had limited authority in the decision. Before any further action could be taken, the dog was removed from the scene. This left the primary officer uncertain about the next steps. At the same time, a larger issue remained, which was accountability. The victims in the neighborhood would need answers and so would the official report. I got Yeah, I I don't even know what to do. Hello. Hey Blainford, they are trans- they are driving the dog to the hospital right now cuz it was stabbed. Um >> Okay. What? Oh, I don't even know what to do at this point, honestly. All right, I'll go ahead and get the LT. Um He's on the way. And I'll I'll I'll head that way. I'll I haven't spoke to him yet. He said he was going to get What did you say? You're on the way? He said No, he said yeah, I'm on I'll be on my way. He said he was going to um get back with me. Um yeah, I I I definitely think we need LT here cuz we have some really mad neighbors. Yeah. Once he get a hold of get back to me, I'll fully inform And then uh whatever officer responded to the Lloyd's Drive call earlier, it was in reference to this dog and they are they are very agitated and want a police report um because I guess their neighbor had also threatened them with a firearm. And for whatever reason, I don't know what happened but the the uh complainant is here on this call. And he wants the officer to come back and write a report. So I don't know who that was. But I was like, I'm dealing with this right now so it's going to be a minute before I can determine who that was and I'll send them to come back. Soon the officers begin preparing an official report that is a culmination of the neighborhood disputes regarding the dog and the injuries. The tricky part for the police is putting together the official report but while doing that, something even more difficult is just around the corner. It's all right. Um So obviously we were writing a a big report. We had made a lot of notifications to figure out what happened here today and just trying to get to the bottom of what >> Yeah, yeah. the dog was acting friendly and then just went berserk. Yeah. You know. Um I don't know Was your wife okay? Have you called her? Not okay. She was >> Where did she get bit? Uh on both legs and there's about a gap between her ankle and the meat up above it and it's almost right to the bone. Mm. Mm. On both legs. >> Oh gosh. Okay. >> So she's got >> So you're going to the hospital now? >> Yeah. Okay. Does she have your information? Yeah. Okay. Well, somebody's going to be up in the hospital to come talk to you guys some more once y'all get the injuries taken care of and then we'll we'll take over from there and yeah. This man is moments away from almost accidentally learning the shocking truth about the dog that left his wife's legs torn. Is the dog see if he's chipped and that or What's that? >> They going to check the dog see if he's chipped to see if he has a owner or Oh, he's a police canine dog. He's one of our dogs. >> What? I don't know how in the hell did he get loose. The guy in the back of the neighborhood. Mhm. Oh, it's his dog. He's a canine. Oh [ __ ] >> Oh my god, dude. Oh my god. Why did Oh man. Sorry, I thought y'all knew that all right. I would have told you that from the get-go. No, they [ __ ] got a car. They normally send a damn truck out put him in it. So his dog got loose. His dog got loose. And bit somebody. Dan, you got to call me an attorney right now. That's [ __ ] [ __ ] They ain't got no Hey man, um I about shot it this morning on my front porch, literally. And it brought me and my truck >> Wow, dude. You let the dog loose that long. You weren't looking for it. He Well, we were in the in route over here when he found out it was it got out. So yeah. >> They weren't even going to tell you about it. That's not true. Don't don't Don't tell me that. I I just found I I thought you already knew, man. Don't Don't do me like that. I've been on I like why would I not tell him? It's no secret. >> I I'm here. I know. I'm I'm just my wife. All right, we'll we'll we'll follow you down to a memorial, okay? And when we get y'all settled in, we'll we'll we'll keep going. In the end, despite some awkward moments, the police completed the official report documenting the incident and covering all necessary actions. The canine was confirmed to be fully vaccinated including against rabies and all victims received hospital care. With that, the situation was more or less brought under control and finally brought to a close. Thanks again for watching.
