you were picked up tonight for traveling to see a minor okay but first I have to get information from you so when we lied you at the jail don't know who you are and who they need to contact in case of an emergency and that type of thing this video contains the interrogation of a suspect who is surprisingly firm about not waiving their rights in 2007 middle-aged Richard watwood used Yahoo Messenger to initiate contact with what he thought was a 13 year old girl unlike many predators Whitewood didn't spend much time easing into forbidden territory instead he began sending highly inappropriate pictures and pressuring her to meet with him he left no room for doubt as to his intentions because he traveled across state lines with a box of condoms and a stock of Viagra [Music] you don't have any clips you're having weapons and drugs on you or anything no any medical uh problems that we need to know about or anything okay okay foreign when I cut this pan right here the band off of it just put your hand on your head for us all right [Music] [Music] do the same thing with this hand just stick put it on your head all right foreign thank you all right now I answered I bet they do they zip you up tight huh we didn't resist them did you oh all right I got some paperwork to take care of with you here first I gotta know what your name is Wanna Give me your information your name Richard Whitewood am I being arrested yes sir you are under arrest how do you spell your last name b-a-t-w-o-o-d foreign you understand why you're here okay you were picked up tonight for traveling to see a minor we'd like to talk to you about what's happened here but that's completely up to you you know every story has two sides and I'd like to hear yours uh but we'll have to go over some paperwork here and let you make that decision Reid approaches what would in a manner designed to make him comfortable with waving his rights and continuing to speak it is important to get him to incriminate himself as much as possible but some suspects shut down quickly if they are pressed too hard too quickly this video shows a deputy trying to lie about driving while under the influence and pretending he didn't realize he had struck an electric box and two trees on September 19 2019 Deputy Glenn borrow it calls Sergeant prioda on his personals okay but first I have to get information from you so when we lied you at the jail don't know who you are and who they need to contact in case of an emergency and that type of thing you understand yeah okay now what kind of car did you drive 2000 uh that Taurus out there I think it's 2001 Ford Taurus it's 2001. yeah I think so now as a part of our investigation we like to take a look in the vehicle I can do that with your consent or we'll have to do it by other means I'd prefer to have your consent I don't have anything to hide in there okay so you agree consent to search of the vehicle are you gonna get a search warrant to look in there well I can I I would prefer to have your consent but you know in our investigation you look in there ain't nothing in there look what color is it gray is it four-door [Music] are you the owner it's in uh my stepfather's name that I'm making payments on so it's in his name and I make payments on it okay so you own it yeah essentially you said it's your father or your stepfather but it's what you drove here tonight yeah okay [Applause] goodbye rich or Richard or it don't matter Bill Mark Mark Whitewood I'm not familiar with that name is that Tennessee or Kentucky Kentucky thank you is this your driver's license Tennessee yeah yeah I got my wallet uh did you have it on you it was on me yeah they've got they've got it off here in that wallet I need to I want to lose my money I get a couple hundred dollars in there right well though put it in a bag and seal it up for you um is this address good here what's your address Kentucky what's that zip okay what would is hesitant to speak and it may take some time for him to relax he hasn't asked for a lawyer yet but it seems like he might be considering that option foreign your vehicle and that's described right there 2004 2001 Ford Taurus gray four-door yeah the one you drove up here tonight okay if you agree to that I need your signature there and if you can print your name and address below it foreign you'll be present whenever we search the vehicle but we'll wait and finish up here before we do any of that okay now you need to use the restroom or anything before we get started I don't yeah I need to yeah okay take care of the restroom foreign yes I very relieved very much now I got a recorder here I'm gonna turn it on so that everything I say to you is documented and everything you say to me is documented so that nobody can misinterpret um I'll turn it on and I'll say where we are the day at the time and then I'll have you state your name and the address and identifying information okay you good so far are you resting me you're already under arrest sir ain't nobody Read Me My Rights well I'm gonna do that on tape okay I'm not asking you for anything that I can't that you haven't already given me actually so that you can be lodged so are you on board I guess I just want you to know what's happening yeah I know what's happening okay this is Agent Catherine Reed with Kentucky Bureau of Investigation the dates October 19 2007 the time is approximately 804 p.m Central Time we're at Bowling Green Police Department in Bowling Green Kentucky currently with Mr Richard Whitewood Mr Whitewood if you could please State your full name and your address Richard wifewood and could you give me your Social Security number please date of birth um I'm gonna go over some stuff with you real quick like I said earlier I'm agent Catherine Reed this is John to Disney John the dinski he's uh with Kentucky Bureau of Investigation as well um I'm gonna go over your rights with you can read them to you what would had not realized that he was already under arrest now that he is being read is right you can see he is listening intently so he can figure out exactly how much he will need to cooperate without making things worse for himself or you can read them yourself whatever makes you feel comfortable which would you prefer I don't care okay [Applause] and if you have any questions you can ask me okay you don't need to sign that yeah if you can sign there that's just stating that you've read your rights and that you understand them [Music] and we'll put the time on there [Music] now down here at the bottom this is a waiver it says that you've read your rights and that you understand them and that you will wave those freely and voluntarily without threat or promise by me I don't want to weigh my rights okay um well I won't be able to talk to you if it's out your understanding of that and like it says anything you say can be used again I don't have anything to say y'all okay well uh I'll get your citation written up and we'll get you ready to get you lodged probably go ahead and do the search for your vehicle since you provide provided consent for that yeah I'll see you about getting out of jail well you have to deal with the jail on that all I do is get you there and then they deal with that end of it but I'd say you won't be getting out this weekend all right you most likely be arraigned on Monday what about my car out there your car will be uh impounded yeah you got anything else for me no okay [Applause] well you hang tight for a few minutes and uh we'll be right back okay well let's try this stuff let's see now hang on to your driver's license she's doing some paperwork getting your transport ready until that reset citation on the narrative because she's the case officer on this side so I'm gonna be in jail all weekend well I don't know I don't know what your Bond's gonna be or or what you know what I mean I don't know if there's no bond in everybody or if they're going to set a bond um I just can't tell you I don't work for the jail so and I'm a guest in this County I don't normally work this company so just Warren County yeah but uh we don't have anything to do with sitting bonds every County sits their Bonds on what they think it should be what's up for all these cameras and all this stuff what's up with the cameras yeah well you met the guy at the house right that's Chris Hanson Dateline the state line show so that's what's up with them I mean those they aren't policemen wow it's that camera over well it is but it's not a video camera it's actually a mugshot camera so now that is up there I think those two are and like I said I'm a guest here this isn't my Police Department so if both of them work or one of them works I'm not sure either one of them work but I do know that's a mugshot camera because we got one just like that what's that that's a mic oh we know that because we have one like that too but it isn't like they're trying to hide it from you no but I ain't been head where are you from Frankfurt Frankfurt our office is in our main offices in Frankfort we work out of the Attorney General's office and then Kentucky Bureau Bank investigation yeah we worked for the Attorney General and then I just I've lived and pray for Vermont once I moved here anyways from up North Tennessee is the same thing don't they TBI and TBI said Attorney General's office too or I have no idea I know they go to TBI a different agent is coming to speak to what would what would remains reluctant and is very aware of the camera watching his every move one good thing is you you don't afford a transport anyway so what's that to jail yeah apparently the jail like I said I'm a guest here but apparently they told me the Jail's right next door so they oh so it's walking everywhere yeah it's a matter of getting that citation done and all your stuff booked in your car over here taken care of or something so I'm not going to impound my car well I this is what I believe happens is they take it because they can't leave it out on the street but I think that your owner can come get it or you can get it as soon as you get out I mean it's not I don't have to pay you might have to pay for a tow but I don't think you have to pay for like to get your car back you know what I mean oh okay or they don't it's not confiscated for life or something just yeah they didn't grow it over here I thought you know oh they did yeah they drove it over here well you probably ain't gonna pay for it yeah I don't have much money so I didn't think you're ever gonna stop pissing in there well I had drank a big old cup of water I know the feeling man I I drink when I was a night shift I used to drink a gallon of tea every night yeah I give up the caffeine just I drink water and stuff now shoot I need it man I can't even wake up most mornings anymore getting old I hear you all right you get used to not drinking it you don't miss it you don't need it I think I'm I think I'm just gonna do I get headaches if I don't drink me too but I got off of it I don't miss it none now you don't get the headaches no more do you no I feel fine water's the way to go though if you gotta drink something it means we'll be water yeah yeah it's good for you foreign say muscle is what 90 or 75 percent water 75 water 25 amino acids and proteins so you figure if you lift it looks like you might do some lifting water's a thing to have yeah that's good for him you do any training or anything personal training or anything I'll just try to stay in shape believe it or not I had open heart surgery four months ago really yeah what was the problem vodka just had quadruple bypass I'm back in the gym yeah yeah I got a big scar right here they cut me open down here on my leg now did you have a heart attack that did that or no I just had Angie on or angina but I had a heart attack when I was 28. yeah I got a strong family history of 28 man I couldn't imagine that I had a heart attack at 28. did you know it or drive yourself to the hospital and all my father come got me I sit around the house no I didn't know no I didn't think I didn't think if I was too young for something like that which is what were your symptoms you just felt sick or very bad pain right in here see my dad well my granddad died when his happened he thought he had indigestion and then my dad on his he thought he had ingestion oh so you got in your family yeah but my dad it wasn't a year to the day that my grandfather died he sits around for three days thinking he has indigestion I was like hey I said that's what killed me and I killed about 15 of my heart too yeah yeah you can't wait on something like that you got it in your family you better the agent has gotten what would to open up on unrelated topics if all goes well what would will let his guard down enough to talk about his arrest and the events leading up to it be careful because if I feel a little bit of pain man I'm gonna better take care of yourself man walk and eat right chicken cholesterol and stuff it'll get you I try and run three four times a week but yeah some kind of Health thing y'all have to get the PT thing yeah we did when I was praying for police how's our Wellness coordinator as a matter of fact I'm certified personal trainer through Cooper Institute you ever heard of that down in Dallas wow Dr Kenneth Cooper he's the guy who first started the big aerobics craze and all that stuff he wrote a book called aerobics but back in the 70s in fact he was on a short list to be Surgeon General but he would head because Court bush from Texas he knows him you know and he couldn't give up his I mean he's a millionaire down there in Dallas with his Fitness schools but of course I'm married to a dietitian so that doesn't oh yeah didn't hurt my qualifications for getting a job so a nod I go up and down oh man I watch what I eat for a while and and I go nuts and uh which is probably the worst thing you can do but yeah man I just love food too much that's really the only reason I work out is so I can eat whatever I want I go from shin splints to you know bad knees and then back to fasciitis I rather lift and run any day of the week but I don't like cardio either but I I gotta do it now keeps the weight off and keeps your heart healthy so you got to yeah I gotta do it I have to now I didn't do it before I was just lifting and uh after your bypass though do you feel yourself feel better I do now it's about four months and after you know I feel a lot better now I know before the heart attack my dad said that like he would get winded going up the stairs and stuff yeah and after they put a standing clear the blockage and everything it felt good he said man I feel good but he's walking three times a week too fast yeah he's dropped 40 pounds too which is probably a good thing yeah I dropped 20. 20. yeah you don't look like 20 pounds would have been that much difference on you I am a little bit more weight on me what kind are they giving you restrictions on your cardio or can you do about as much as you want let's try to keep my heart rate between uh 120 and 140. that's what for my age you know I guess that's where it's supposed to be and I was due by two miles a day you know 30 minutes and I walk about 30 minutes two miles 15 minutes that's about what you're supposed to do for for the fitness level what they're talking about yeah just trying to work my heart I'm doing weight training y'all trying to do that it's a lot more fun than running yeah yeah it is my problem is every time I run or lift and I mean it's a it's a cycle I go try to beat the last time out every Monday for me it's just day every Monday I try and beat the Monday before Oh yeah and eventually you play a tow I gotta change my whole workout because I can't stay in the plateau and stay in one place you know I mean so same thing with Ron and I'll I'll go run and if I did eight minute mile today I want to do a 759 mile tomorrow you know and I can't I can't push myself like that anymore I just try to get in there and do best I can you know can't go in there balls the walls on the lifting or anything just try to do what I can I don't say I get wired up chest now so I can't go in there I ain't even tried bench press I've been using machines and stuff but I'm you know don't hurt any now yeah so that machines sometimes make your form better you know there's a lot more ways to cheat on friends on that bench press that's real hard on your shoulders been there yeah I hurt myself my shoulders in there doing it elbows and good old cortisone shot that worked pretty good for you they worked for my shoulder and my elbow just kind of eased up on everything and is that painful when it went in no no it didn't hurt see that's the biggest thing scares me about them is I've got a friend who's personal trainer she's told me before all right the Orthopedics guy he put He put something in there first and dead in it and then he put in the cortisone but what would has become quite animated but so far the agent is choosing to stay away from the main issue Whitewood invoked his rights so it can be tricky to change that while still keeping to the legalities that are in place the dots are putting right in there and it didn't hurt I've always heard that's painful well it didn't hurt me that's what I heard too I've had people tell me the cortisone shot's worse than the paneer no it'll help you carry your tendonitis tendons get real brittle you know like if they get inflamed and they can break and then they'll have to go in and saw them back you know and then you you messed up forever so them shots kind of soften them up your tendons they told to do I think it you know keep gets them from being inflamed so much I never knew what it did I knew everybody talked about especially like pro athletes and stuff they give them cortisone shots pictures especially you know in the rotator cuff and shoulder and stuff yeah well how long is he going to take I don't know what are they doing they're going through my car now they decide said something about me standing there with them yeah what what they're doing now is she's right in your citation and getting you ready for transport and the way this is working is they'll send somebody over from the jail to come over and escort you and stuff like that so I know it might be a matter to coordinating with that I'm gonna be in here all weekend she's saying like Monday morning where I can't you know I can't say one way or the other you get somebody come come bail you out or I I don't want to sit in there all weekend I don't know I there could be no bonding year they could be giving you a bail I don't know I can't answer it most times in my experience honestly they'd probably give you a bail so probably be ten thousand two thousand with somebody signed for it or something yeah they could well most of them are going to be full cash out of soon full cash so somebody have come up at money yeah and pay them that to secure it you'll come back yeah didn't say that I'd come back I couldn't sign for it or something I thought that people signed for it well not if it's full cash usually what happens is you get arraigned and You're On full cast of your rain and then they can set up like you're talking about like a property bond or something like that then they can do that but usually that comes after arraignment I do know that but do they have Bail Bonds in Tennessee yeah they got them all over the place over there yeah they don't have them here so that's what yeah they use now they sign for it that's right yeah and I see you might get somebody put up the money in Tennessee like that a bail bondsman where they sign for it and send the money here you know what I mean yeah they don't have them here no they're uh they're actually legal now they got them in Tennessee yeah well they it made them illegal here they started what's called pre-trial which is an officer they're called officers or just regular people of the Court and they come in and determine your bond now I don't know because we have them in Pennsylvania bail bondsman I couldn't believe they don't have them here but for some reason they didn't want them no more what time's it getting to be Chick-fil-A 835 we're in Central Central gas the time change up no time don't change here same growing tired of the weight what would changes the subject he isn't pleased to learn that he most likely will not be able to post the bail due to the local law he would have to pay a minimum of ten thousand dollars in cash hardly an amount that he would have on him and it is very doubtful that anyone he knows would be willing to pay on his behalf intensity well it depends on which side you're on yeah it's the same [Music] Asheville central time yeah yeah until you go down towards Chattanooga then it changes go down that way and it'll change back forward or something high or something it's messed me up a couple times I got some hunting land down here and uh I've gotten here like planning on getting here at six in the morning and ended up here at five in the morning and stuff just because I because I forget about the time whereas you're not playing it right up the road here just a little bit outside Warren County what are you what I mean you're from it's a different time zone yeah frankford's hunts eastern time and this is on Central oh okay it's messed me up a couple times man I got down sitting here I really can't believe I could have been dead [Music] oh you deer hunter you can say a deer hunt I only guess I got four that you can consider pretty good deer with four which ain't bad for hunting my whole life yeah it's harder well I don't know I just I did something when I was a kid but it's kind of hard to to get them that you really got some good places well my biggest one actually came from state game lands in Pennsylvania I got 11 corner with 24 inch spread well that's about as good as you can get there and what's weird is those are mountain deer those aren't Farm Deer so he he got that wages eating acorns and stuff like that they wouldn't eating corn it's a I've been I've been walking before three four miles up there in a day because I stock hunt and uh never seen another Hunter just it's just nice man it's out there's dirt roads well it's 10 miles of dirt road to get to our camp so it's it's pretty remote it's pretty sweet but he just happened to walk right into me one day and I sat down I was taking a break and set my gun down kind of laid over on a tree like that I looked at the man it's a back of a deer you know you saw it way off and couldn't see his head for nothing it was Buck only so I sat there a little while longer and then he come around a Bend where I could see just his head a big old rack on him are you in here telling him about hunting talk about deer hunting you honey no I thought it was when I was a kid my father was a big arm yeah my husband is I just kind of gave it up he likes to hunt deer he likes to hunt geese you name it and he wants to do it I need to get some more information from you here uh I need to get a home phone number you might have gave that to me earlier but if you can give it to me or of course that'd be easy okay what about an emergency phone number I don't want to give nobody's number out well I mean if something happens to you and they need to notify somebody that you're fine okay uh are you married no I'm divorced Big D huh yeah happens to the best of us relationships are hard what's your height five five flight 170. hair color blonde I don't know it's getting gray now brown bread whatever brown red and gray yeah okay we'll put Brown it looks mostly Brown anyway your eye color you got blue eyes my son's got blue eyes uh any alcohol or drugs huh you had any alcohol or drugs tonight no we need to be aware of no now do you have any medical issues that we need to make the jail away well so do you have any regular medication that you take agent Reed is returned and since it is clear that what wood isn't going to speak she begins the process of ending the interview you won't know everything I've got a prescription for well they might want to know that at the jail just so you know they can take care of you the best way they know how if they don't know then foreign other conditions besides open heart surgery four months ago no okay then you're awful young had to open heart surgery aren't you yeah been a heart attack when I was 28. 41. you've been through it yeah they do bypass quadruple bypass really you don't see this car it's here if you don't believe me I'm not saying I don't believe you my grandmother had open heart surgery but I mean she was in her sixth oh they said that's too young to be there man oh man yeah you have been through the ring now just out of curiosity before you had your first heart attack did you lift and stuff then no started all that I smoked when I was young and drank and stuff kind of party when I was you started all that after and then I quit when I was about my mid-20s 23 so you know and then when I was a little bit older I had heart trouble so so do you take uh any type of anxiety medication or anything like that high blood pressure no so yeah now this was the stuff that they uh took off of you I just wanted to see we've got it in evidence nobody's gonna have it it'll be sealed up and put away okay okay [Music] um I'm gonna go see if I can't round up the transport guys you uh need anything before I head out to find them I need some water if I could need some water yeah okay see if I can't find this tomorrow anything else you need to go home there buddy I can't do that for you you know that gotta transport you over to the jail and then you'll be able to take care of your business yeah after that now John tell you about how it's all gonna work got any questions for me I don't know I just want to know how long I'm gonna be over here when can I get it that handcuff bothering you yeah it'd be nice if you take them off I ain't gonna go nowhere well I can't take them off of you it's possible you know uh I'd like to but that's all right I'm fine so he he answered all your questions well he said he really didn't know I mean well you'll most likely be arraigned on Monday so I can't get bail or nothing or get out or Obama bonds he's saying he'd have a bond place they don't have Bail Bonds are in Kentucky now left so it'll be full cash Bond I mean you'll be able to talk to the judge about it on Monday so I gotta go in front of a judge oh yeah to have to have your bond changed you'll have to go before that's what I was telling you between the difference between full characters so if I don't pay a bomb when I go in there money I got to stay in jail too yeah yeah to win what wood is very focused on the fact that he's going to have to stay in jail over the weekend his main concern should be about the sentence he may have to carry out once this is all over distraught Parker Bell fired a 40 caliber pistol into the floor sending the room which included several civilians into a panic as people duck for cover so or you make the cash Bond or they reduce the bond and I mean that's something you can ask the judge to reduce the bond at your arraignment it arraignments like when I told you about the property bond when he could change it to property bond he could 10 percent it he could make it or he could one percent he could do any number of things just depending the pre-trial like I was telling you they get a a chart it shows like what makes you a Flight Risk what doesn't make your flight risk and then they they give it to the judge and he decides that we're in Bowling Green now we're in bullet Bowling Green I'm not gonna get a telephone call well they'll take care of that over at the jail once they get you booked in and everything you'll have an opportunity to use a phone there 'd be best to do with them too so you know what your bond is when you're going to tell somebody what your bond is okay so you good see if I can't round you up some water water would be fine yeah you're gonna say something I interrupted you I want to be fine I ain't got nothing to say really okay it's ready to get to go to get out of here okay let's see if we can't get you took care of [Applause] oh yeah give me that folder [Music] that gives me why they arrested me for anyway I didn't see exactly what she's charging me with but if I was a bad man I'd say it's unlawful transaction with a minor what does that mean going to meet another each person what kind of what is that all of that entail it's a felony so I mean it's it's pretty serious offense and I can't say for sure that because I didn't see what she wrote on the citation but that's what we have been charging with unless she knows something else she did or something but I I if I was a Batman I'd say that's a charge it's one of them two's moving did you figure that out I keep hearing a movie out hearing something I thought it was that thing there this thing yeah foreign unlike many suspects in this situation what wood doesn't change his mind about not speaking with the agents about his case most allow themselves to become emotional or try to talk their way out of trouble what would knows that there is nothing he can say to help save himself and he isn't going to risk making it worse guys working on third shifts here I have working all week I guess this isn't really my area where fraud normally so I was just pulling the nail perfect until three days ago and I work public corruption so um do uh I sit up until three days ago I worked for an hour public corruption so this isn't necessarily my area for that drugs so oh that's where most of my time has been spent so when I can't answer a bunch of questions for you guys because that ain't my area yeah that's all right joke 25. [Applause] over here what would may have avoided answering any questions but eventually they'll be forced to talk in court given the crime it is doubtful he'll be able to come up with an excuse good enough to avoid serving time Richard wattwood was later charged with crossing state boundaries to engage in illicit sexual activity Whitewood was never able to make bail and was eventually sentenced to 46 months in federal prison and seven years in a Kentucky state jail after being found guilty of both federal and state offenses he was released in 2019 and will continue to serve Five Years on probation as well as being permanently placed on the sex offender registry thank you for watching check out my patreon link in the description below and drop a like on this video also don't forget to leave a comment I'm always curious to read what you thought of the case
