[Music] so the police academies that are run by colleges are done they follow they're very strict and they follow the curriculum set by FDLE every Police Academy has to have a minimum of 770 hours we're over 1100 hours so we've where we're adding in additional training and sticking it in in a manner that makes sense another aspect that truly just makes our Academy better is we do if we fully process all applicants they get the full background the psychological they do a polygraph um they do an interview they do everything that other academies don't require so you know there's that saying um you're only as strong as your weakest link we get rid of the weakest links before we even start so so the level of applicant that we we bring in and the level of recruit we bring in is so much higher we're able to do a lot more when we bring a new student or a recruit into are we hot we hire them into our agency that person is getting immersed not only in training to become a deputy sheriff they're getting immersed in our culture we not only do we train the foundation but we bring everything together so it's a lot more big picture of what you're going to eventually do as a career and not just say how you learn in high school here's math hear science here's history we take Math Science and History and we make it one big topic of this is how you go out and you protect and serve the public as a whole and we mix it all in together in a format that makes sense so it's not just here's how you shoot here's how you defend yourself physically um this is how you write a police report we take several aspects and we put them all together and then we make it scenario Based training so that all those different aspects get put into how we do things and how we do it as a culture of this is the Volusia Sheriff's Office and it seems to work [Music] foreign
