Drop the knife, dude. I'm going to shoot you. >> CROSSIRE. >> HEY, adrenaline junkies. Welcome to Police Chase. Today, we're kicking off a brand new series. When people messed with the wrong cops, where every dumb move instantly triggers justice mode. All right, let's dive in. >> How old are you? So, this is the camera. God damn. What the? >> Drop the knife, dude. I'm going to shoot you. >> On July 5th, 2026, shortly before 12:00 p.m. in Denver, Colorado, USA, officers responded once again to a residence near East 51st Avenue in Washington Street after receiving another 911 call about 26-year-old Wilson Gara Bravo. Hey, >> go back. Don't leave your car. Drop right there. Hey. Hey. Drop that knife. Drop that knife. >> Neighbors said Bravo had repeatedly returned to the property over several days, knocking on doors, looking through [music] windows, and making the current residents feel increasingly uneasy. Officers had already warned him not to come back. Yet, the calls kept coming. Sometimes ignoring a simple warning can set a much bigger chain of events into motion. >> Drop the knife, >> dude. I'm going to shoot you. >> Drop the knife. >> Drop it. >> When officers located Bravo, they noticed he was holding a large kitchen knife. As they tried to speak with him, he walked away and suddenly ran, leading officers on a foot pursuit. Investigators said that after disappearing briefly behind a building, Bravo unexpectedly moved toward a pursuing officer while still holding the knife. Officers repeatedly shouted, "Drop the knife and warned him to stop." But the tense confrontation continued until an officer discharged his firearm to stop the immediate threat. Take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. Officers immediately secured the scene, recovered a 10-in kitchen knife, and provided first aid until [music] paramedics arrived. Bravo was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and was later accused of attempted homicide related to the confrontation. The officer involved was placed on administrative assignment while multiple agencies reviewed every detail of the incident. Cases like this are a reminder that a single choice made in seconds can leave lasting consequences for everyone involved. Oh, crossfire. Crossire cross. [applause] On April 30th, 2025 at around 4:30 p.m. in Manteka, California, USA, police officers were dispatched to an In-N-Out Burger on Yusede Avenue after reports of a disturbance in the drive-thru. Witnesses said a white van driven by 69year-old Charles McGonagal, too, had intentionally struck another vehicle and was attempting to force it out of the line. >> And he just left. I can tell you the direction of which he's going in, too. >> He went, let's see, he just went around our store. He didn't leave. He didn't go towards chains or nothing. >> Uhhuh. >> Uh I I just seen a box appears, but I didn't see if he had any open. Um Oh, now he's swerving out. He just took our drive-thru sign. >> Okay. He just took off and he hit the drive-through sign. He's dragging it. >> And yes, he's leaving with the drive-through sign. Uh just give a sign in front of your Okay, perfect. You can let the manle now. >> Moments after the first officer arrived, the situation became far more dangerous. According to investigators, the van suddenly accelerated toward the patrol vehicle, striking it before hitting it again. Faced with an immediate threat, the officer discharged his firearm and quickly called for emergency assistance. >> Sir, put your car. Put your carpet. Stop. Stop. shot. >> Even so, he continued speaking calmly with McGonagal, encouraging him to cooperate and offering medical help because it was still unclear whether he had been injured. Sometimes the hardest part of police work is trying to calm a situation that is already spinning out of control. >> Is he reaching for anything? >> Charles. >> Okay. Have we >> You mind answering a couple questions for me? Huh? >> No, don't back up. >> Hey, we need to pin the vehicle. Watch out. >> He's mobile. You need to pin him in. >> Okay, I'm going to >> For more than 20 minutes, officers and detectives continued their efforts to peacefully resolve the incident while nearby businesses were evacuated for safety. Just when it seemed the situation might improve, investigators said McGonagal accelerated once again, using the van to strike another patrol vehicle twice. With the danger continuing, several officers discharged their firearms to bring the incident to an end. Cross fire. Once the scene was secure, officers immediately rendered medical aid before paramedics transported McGonagal to a nearby trauma center. The incident remains a reminder that vehicles can become extremely dangerous when used recklessly. Investigators later reviewed the actions of everyone involved as part of the standard investigative process while the case continued through the legal system. >> Yeah, it's completely clear. God damn. >> What the? >> On June 14th, 2025, just after 2:30 a.m. in Monks Corner, South Carolina, USA, deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office were conducting a late night traffic stop near the intersection of South Live Oak Drive in Wildwood Lane after detaining a driver suspected of driving under the influence. What seemed like a routine stop was about to change in an instant. >> Give me a hand. Put me a handcuff for what? >> Take me to jail. I'll be out tomorrow. Doesn't matter. It doesn't There's no resistance. I didn't resist. You pulled me out my car just now. You just pulled me out my car. >> You were asking to get out of here. You just pulled me out my car. >> What do you want me to do? [applause] >> God damn. >> What the >> Sit down. Sit down. >> Oh my god. >> While the deputies were standing only a few steps away from their patrol vehicle, another driver approached the area. According to investigators, that driver was also believed to be impaired and failed to avoid the parked patrol vehicle, causing a sudden collision. In a split second, an already challenging situation became even more dangerous. It was a reminder that roadside stops remain one of the most unpredictable duties in law enforcement. >> Oh my god. >> Doors locked. Yeah, ma'am. >> Ma'am 143. You got one responding 95. >> She's not wearing a seat belt. Help me get her off. >> Okay. >> Is she? Yes, she is. Can you help >> here? Back up. Back up. >> Oh, she got it. >> We got it. >> All right. Emergency responders quickly secured the scene and assisted everyone involved while the South Carolina Highway Patrol launched an investigation. Authorities later identified the driver as 32-year-old Lauren Michelle Skinner. As evidence was gathered, investigators filed multiple charges related to driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and transporting an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. >> Just like [snorts] so. >> Hey. >> Hey. What's your name? >> Lauren Skinn Skinner. >> One more time. >> Lauren Skinner. Okay. Do you know what year it is? >> It is. >> How much do you get on there? >> 2025. >> 2025. >> Okay. >> Do you know who the president is? >> Skinner was later released on bond totaling $14527.50 as the legal process moved forward. Although the incident lasted only moments, its impact served as a powerful reminder that one irresponsible decision behind the wheel can place officers, drivers, and innocent road users at serious risk. Respecting traffic laws is not only about avoiding penalties. It is about protecting every life on the road. >> Don't smile at me, especially whenever you out here drinking and driving. You about took us out and killed every one of us. On May 23rd, 2025, at around 300 p.m. in Houston, Texas, USA, Houston police officers responded to reports of a trespasser at a business plaza. Security staff told officers that a 64 yearear-old man reportedly carrying a baseball bat had refused to leave the property and had earlier struck a security guard during the confrontation. Come here. Houston, stop. >> Officers soon located the man nearby and attempted to speak with him. Instead of cooperating, investigators said he repeatedly swung the baseball bat toward the officers and ignored clear verbal commands given in both English and Spanish, hoping to resolve the situation without further harm. Officers deployed their conducted energy devices several times, but the attempts had little effect. Sometimes, even repeated opportunities to deescalate are not enough when emotions take control. >> Drop the bat. DROP THE BAT. >> DON'T REACH IN YOUR POCKET. DON'T REACH IN YOUR POCKET. YOU DON'T have >> Take your time. Take your time. Take your time. Get in. Take your time. Drop the bat. >> Drop the bat. Drop the bat. >> Hold on. Get in. I got to get in. Hold on. >> Okay. Drop the bat, sir. Sir, drop the bat. Drop the bat. Sir, sir. Drop the back. DROP THE BACK. >> DROP IT. WAIT. Get away. >> DROP THE BACK. SIR, drop the sir. SIR, DROP IT. DROP IT. >> Shots fired. Shots fired. According to investigators, the man then picked up a large concrete rock while continuing to hold the bat and moved aggressively toward the officers. As they repeatedly ordered him to stop and drop the objects, the immediate danger continued to grow. Faced with what they believed was an imminent threat, one officer discharged his duty weapon to bring the confrontation under control. >> Over location, word hammer, please. My radio's not working. Yeah, I'm okay. >> After the scene was secured, officers immediately requested medical personnel to respond. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later worked to confirm the man's identity. While the Houston Police Department opened a standard investigation to review every aspect of the incident, the case serves as another reminder that refusing lawful commands and escalating a confrontation can quickly lead to life-changing consequences for everyone involved. >> How old are you? >> As an age, how old are you? On March 12th, 2026 in Orlando, Florida, USA, body camera footage captured an encounter between Orlando police officers and a group of young adults gathered in a public parking lot. Officers approached after noticing what appeared to be alcohol being consumed in an area where city ordinances prohibited it. What began as a routine conversation soon took an unexpected turn. >> How old are you? >> As in age, how old are you? >> Why are you so aggressive yelling at me? >> I literally just asked you three times. How's my old >> Where's your ID? >> Huh? >> As officers asked basic questions about age and identification, an 18-year-old woman repeatedly responded with, "Huh?" The repeated misunderstandings gradually increased the tension. Officers explained that they needed clear answers to complete their investigation. While the young woman later said she was feeling overwhelmed and believed she might be experiencing a panic attack. In stressful situations, emotions can sometimes make even simple conversations much more difficult. >> What? >> Yeah. What, bro? >> What, bro? >> We literally >> I said what? >> How about you learn to listen when we ask you things >> four times and you keep saying, "Huh?" >> So now, now you get to Now you potentially get to go to jail. >> Hey, 25 ft. >> 25 ft back, dude. After the woman eventually presented her identification and confirmed that she was 18 years old, officers explained that consuming alcohol in a public parking lot was an offense under Orlando city ordinance. They also stated that the interaction had become more confrontational because they believed she was not cooperating with lawful questions. The discussion ended with officers informing the group that enforcement action would be taken. >> You want my ID? >> Thank you. >> All that would have taken the first time. >> I said, "Huh?" Cuz I didn't hear you. He was pretty clear about it. >> But you put I'm sorry. >> No, I'm so sorry. Like >> he did four times. >> But she said >> I do. >> And I'm not driving. Literally just >> We asked you how old you were twice. >> I didn't hear you. I said, "Huh?" >> Well, I was just asking how your spring break is going. Is this a camera? Oh, >> you know. Hell yeah. I don't know. Um, >> I just talk a lot when I'm like I'm really anxious. >> We find your age, right? Which we would have found out anyway. Yeah. 18, >> right? 18. >> Oh, >> he has providing you with alcohol cuz you can't buy it or whatever store provided to you if you bought it is going to have an issue. >> Yeah. >> Hey, cars are here. >> The group was later processed according to standard procedures and transported [music] from the scene. Throughout the encounter, officers repeatedly reminded everyone to comply with lawful instructions and to remain at a safe distance while they handled the situation. The incident highlights an important lesson. Staying calm, communicating clearly, and cooperating during lawful interactions can often help prevent a routine encounter from becoming far more stressful than it needs to be. >> On the other side, >> yeah, stand on that side. She's going to stand on that side. Never. >> Turn your wrists here. >> You're not going to have a seizure. >> I'm going to have a seizure. >> Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. >> All right. Thank you. >> Your baby. On August 20th, 2023, at approximately 11:42 p.m. in Lraange, Georgia, USA, a police officer spotted a silver Ford Mustang speeding through a residential area shortly after deputies had lost sight of a vehicle involved in an earlier pursuit. What first appeared to be a routine traffic stop quickly became a dangerous chase through city streets. Silver Mustang. Nile Street silver Mustang. [screaming] >> After activating the patrol car's emergency lights, the officer attempted to stop the Mustang. Instead, the driver accelerated away, ignored multiple stop signs, and reached speeds of more than 65 mph in a 30 mph zone. Every intersection increased the danger, not only for the officers, but also for nearby residents and other drivers who had no idea what was unfolding around them. Hit going again. Do it again. Do it again. To prevent the pursuit from becoming even more dangerous, the officer carried out a pit maneuver. Despite losing control twice, the Mustang continued moving and showed no sign of stopping. Fearing the driver might enter another residential area, the officer made a final tactical intervention that successfully disabled the vehicle. The driver later identified as Kofi Dowel, then ran from the car, but was quickly caught after a deputy deployed a taser. After being taken into custody, officers reported detecting the odor of alcohol and Dowel later stated that he had consumed a significant amount of beer. He agreed to a state administered blood test before being medically evaluated and transported to the Trope County Jail. The incident serves as a reminder that choosing to flee from law enforcement often turns a traffic stop into a far more serious situation, putting countless people at unnecessary risk. On May 13th, 2025, while patrolling Interstate 430 near mile marker 4 in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, a state trooper noticed a black Acura making an improper lane change and following another vehicle too closely. What appeared to be a routine traffic stop quickly turned into a high-speed pursuit. Have a good feel. The trooper activated the patrol car's emergency lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop. Instead, the Acura accelerated to speeds of nearly 86 mph as it moved on to Interstate 30. The pursuit lasted only about half a mile, yet every second increased the risk to nearby motorists. Sometimes a single decision to keep driving can make a situation far more serious than it ever needed to be. To prevent the pursuit from continuing, the trooper carried out a tactical vehicle intervention, bringing the Acura safely to a stop. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a Glock handgun, additional magazines, and a backpack containing several bags of suspected marijuana along with a digital scale and empty plastic bags commonly associated with distribution. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. 407 going to be out with him. >> Investigators later filed multiple charges, including fleeing, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, unlawful firearm possession, driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance, improper lane change, and following too closely. While being processed at the jail, the driver reportedly admitted that he had no intention of stopping because he was just going home. The case serves as another reminder that ignoring a lawful traffic stop can quickly lead to far more serious legal consequences than the original violation. On February 1st, 2025, at approximately 9:16 p.m. near the intersection of North Stateline Avenue and West 13th Street in Texirana, Texas, USA, an Arkansas State Trooper left a routine traffic stop after learning that Ashdown police officers were pursuing a red Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on US Highway 71. Within minutes, the trooper joined what would become a multi- agency pursuit. As the pursuit crossed into Texas, the suspect entered Interstate 30 before continuing onto Interstate 369, reaching speeds of nearly 100 mph. Supervisors repeatedly instructed the trooper to look for a safe opportunity to perform a tactical vehicle intervention while minimizing the risk to other drivers. Every mile increased the pressure as officers worked to balance public safety with the need to end the pursuit. At around 9:27 p.m. near the Westlon Drive overpass, the trooper found a safe opportunity to carry out the maneuver. The pickup lost control, entered the median, struck a cable barrier, and came to a stop. The driver immediately got out, and attempted to flee on foot across the interstate. Officers from Arkansas State Police, Texas DPS, Ashdown Police, and the Bowie County Sheriff's Office worked together, pursuing him across an embankment and through a drainage ditch before safely taking him into custody. The driver was later identified as John Clark, who was found to have a suspended Texas driver's license. Investigators also learned that the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado had been reported stolen shortly after the pursuit began. Clark was taken into custody to face multiple charges in both Texas and Arkansas, including evading law enforcement and property related offenses. The case is another reminder that a decision to flee can quickly transform a traffic stop into a complex incident involving multiple agencies, greater public risk, and far more serious legal consequences. TOTALLY. >> At 1:57 a.m. in Superior, Wisconsin, USA, security cameras captured a Dodge Challenger sliding into a snowbank behind Superior Middle School. After leaving the crashed vehicle, the driver returned to a nearby apartment complex, took a white utility van, and drove to a local care facility. There, a distressed woman told staff she had been assaulted, prompting an immediate 911 call. Officers quickly identified the suspect as 28-year-old Dylan Wallace and began searching for the van. Before they could safely stop him, Wallace returned home, retrieved several rifles, and drove away again. The situation was becoming more dangerous with every passing minute. >> Don't think it looks like Boyfriend 95 for turn 37 here. TOT. >> When an officer attempted to stop the van, the encounter escalated almost instantly. Gunfire erupted, leaving one officer seriously injured. Although her protective equipment and damaged radio helped prevent an even worse outcome. >> Give me the air. It's on 37. [music] >> Get the power now. 30 minutes. >> He's He's driving. He's driving uh east on 37. >> Wallace then drove directly into Superior Middle School and disappeared inside the building. Officers immediately established a secure perimeter, evacuated surrounding areas, and waited for tactical teams while carefully monitoring every possible exit. anything. Eventually, Wallace walked out of the school with his hands raised and surrendered without further confrontation. Their patience, discipline, and teamwork helped bring the dangerous standoff to a safe conclusion. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Investigators later filed multiple felony charges, including attempted homicide, domestic abuse, firearm related offenses, and criminal damage to property. Court records show Wallace pleaded not guilty as the case proceeded through the legal system. Meanwhile, the injured officer received medical treatment and was expected to make a full recovery. Looking back, this case reminds us that one moment of losing emotional control can place countless lives at risk. It also highlights the courage and professionalism of first responders who continue protecting their communities even in the face of extraordinary danger. barricade yourself, get in the room, shoot out a couple lights, shoot several times in the in the school, and you [music] pass out or do whatever you do at in the room, and then you come to and you realize I my life on July 12th, 202 23 on Interstate 40 in Arkansas, USA. A St. Francis County deputy was pursuing two gray Tesla vehicles traveling eastbound at dangerously high speeds. A state trooper ahead attempted to set up spike strips near the 274 mile marker, but had to abandon the plan due to heavy traffic and the rapid approach of the suspects. >> Right there, right there. Right lane 1030, sir. I got you. >> Using rear radar, the trooper clocked the lead Tesla at 92 mph in a 65 zone. The second Tesla abruptly exited at mile marker 275 while the first continued accelerating and weaving recklessly between lanes at tripledigit speeds. Ahead, traffic had come to a stop in two lanes and the suspect shot past everyone through the only open lane on the right. Looks like they >> Yeah, somebody's bike over. >> Oh, traffic. Hit it. Go again. Go again. All right. Yeah. >> The suspect ran over spike strips placed by West Memphis Police Department officers near the Ingram Street overpass. The trooper attempted two tactical vehicle intervention maneuvers before finally spinning the Tesla into the concrete wall near mile marker 282. The suspect then rammed the trooper's patrol unit, bending the left rear wheel and forcing it into the guard rail before trooper Hes performed a second intervention that brought the vehicle to a final stop. He hit 24 car. >> Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident. A search of the vehicle uncovered a small amount of marijuana and digital scales. The driver, Williams, was charged with reckless driving, fleeing, aggravated assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and no liability insurance. The passenger, Taylor, was charged with possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The Tesla had been rented through the Turo app by the driver's cousin, and the trooper patrol unit sustained significant damage from the Ram. Borrowing a car to celebrate a birthday ended with consequences no one at the start of that trip could have imagined. On February 25th, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 40 near Alexander, Arkansas, USA, local Alexander Police Department officers attempted to stop a motorcycle that had no license plate. The rider refused to pull over and the pursuit quickly escalated, prompting the Arkansas State Police to intercept and assist before Alexander officers took back the lead. We're still left. As the pursuit continued at high speed, the motorcycle weaved through traffic with no sign of stopping. Officers coordinated their positions while waiting for the right moment to act. The riders showed no intention of giving up, pushing the chase further down the interstate and putting other motorists at serious risk. My goat. An Alexander Police Department officer executed a tactical vehicle intervention, making contact with the motorcycle and pushing it into the concrete divider. The rider was thrown from the bike and taken into custody at the scene. In a dramatic twist, the motorcycle continued rolling down the interstate on its own before colliding into the back of the Alexander Police Department patrol car. >> GET ON THE [screaming] GROUND. HEY, GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND NOW. >> Get on the ground. >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> Get on the ground. Yes, sir. >> Get on the ground. The rider was taken into custody and the patrol car sustained rear-end damage from the drifting motorcycle. After being apprehended, the rider complained about the damage to his motorcycle while officers discussed the logistics of the stop around him. Running from a simple license plate violation only added more problems to what was already a bad situation. This is here branch Alexander guy kind of working to the On May 24th, 2023 in Lounes County, Georgia, USA, a sheriff's deputy was managing the scene of a traffic crash along Highway 84 when an oncoming car came speeding down the lane without slowing down. >> 250 250 rollover. The car struck the back of a tow truck parked on the roadside, launching it into the air before landing back upright. Without hesitation, a deputy rushed toward the wreck to help the driver trapped inside. >> Second EMS immediate roll previous 1050. >> A deputy was struck by debris from the impact and taken to hospital, though her injuries were not serious. The driver, a 21-year-old woman from Tallahass, Florida, survived with serious injuries and was recovering in stable condition. The tow truck sustained heavy damage from the collision. Even at a scene meant to keep people safe, danger can arrive without a single second of warning. the master road. >> On May 24th, 2023 on Interstate 75 southbound in Cobb County, Georgia, USA, police officers located a stolen pickup truck driven by a suspect wanted for an attempted armed robbery. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to pull over and sped away, triggering a pursuit through increasingly congested traffic. 75. All right. Heavy traffic on the right shoulder, 80 mph. As vehicles filled the interstate, the suspect swerved onto the shoulder and attempted to escape using an exit ramp. An officer used his patrol vehicle to strike the truck, bringing the pursuit to an abrupt end. Officers quickly surrounded the vehicle with their weapons drawn as the suspect tossed a handgun onto the ground. >> Get on the [screaming] ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Hey, put that thing down. Put it down. Put it down. Put it down. PUT IT DOWN. PUT THE KNIFE DOWN. [screaming] Put it down. Put the knife down. Put the knife down. Put it down. Put him down. Put him down. >> Despite dropping the firearm, the suspect held a knife to his own throat, and refused to comply for several tense moments. Eventually, he discarded the knife, lay down on the pavement, and surrendered peacefully. As officers moved in to handcuff him, the emotional suspect could be heard crying and saying, "I just wanted to get away. Keep your hands on the chair and step out. >> Step out of the car. Put your hands out to your side and do not move. >> Put your hands out to the side just like an airplane. Look down at the ground and do not move. >> Moving. [screaming] >> Do not move. Do not move. Do not move. >> No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident, and the suspect was taken into custody without further resistance. Sometimes the harder someone tries to escape the consequences of their actions, the more clearly they realize that surrender is the only road left to take. >> Stay there. Those machetes, >> man. Why y'all do that to me, man? I was just wanting to get away, man. >> I just wanted to get away. In Los Angeles, California, USA, officers from the LAPD spotted a Tesla driving recklessly along Figueroa Street near 61st Street. What seemed like a routine traffic stop would soon turn into an incident no one expected. 33. Uh, I don't have the plate. Susan 2 northbound on paper 61. We have a white Tesla. >> When officers activated their emergency lights, the driver refused to stop and accelerated away, leading police on a brief pursuit. Although officers ended the chase because of the vehicle's high speed, they continued monitoring the area. Moments later, the Tesla appeared to collide with a cyclist before speeding away again. Officers immediately stopped to check on the cyclist who chose to leave the scene on their own. It was a reminder that chaos often unfolds faster than anyone can react. >> What else? The vehicle is drafting traveling first down to the air. We hear a pet. >> A short time later, another patrol unit spotted the same Tesla speeding along Slen Avenue. Officers turned around and followed only to see the vehicle collide with a MercedesBenz at the intersection of Slen Avenue and Danker Avenue. >> 45. We're going to be code six on that white Tesla. We're going to be on. >> The driver abandoned the Tesla and attempted to flee on foot, but officers quickly caught up and took him into custody without further confrontation. be on banker suspect. Go ahead. South on banker. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Tomai Dampier and was arrested on allegations of felony evading resulting in severe consequences under California law. Emergency responders also arrived to assist everyone affected by the collision while specialized support teams help those involved. This case serves as a powerful reminder that choosing to flee from law enforcement can trigger consequences far beyond a simple traffic stop, affecting many innocent lives along the way. >> Oh my god. on July 12th at approximately 8:19 a.m. in and reckless decisions can leave lasting consequences for families, communities, and even the person responsible. On July 27th, 2022, at a Lowe's store in Los Cusus, New Mexico, USA, what appeared to be an ordinary shopping day took an unexpected turn. Security cameras captured two masked men leaving the store with unpaid merchandise while an off-duty US Border Patrol agent happened to witness everything. No one could have predicted that the situation would soon escalate into a high-risisk police operation. As store employees tried to stop the suspects, one of them allegedly displayed a firearm, forcing everyone to keep their distance. Instead of confronting them, the off-duty agent calmly followed from a safe distance, photographed the suspect's vehicle, and immediately called 911. Within minutes, responding officers located the maroon Chevrolet Tahoe and began a pursuit through city streets. Sometimes staying calm under pressure can make all the difference. [groaning] >> South 962 central 44. He's on the wrong side of traffic in front of Kes. Copy. Runway traffic in front of K. >> Now he's by uh the parking lot of Red Lobster. >> Hit the vehicle as soon as it turns it next turn. The pursuit ended in a crowded parking lot where officers surrounded the vehicle and repeatedly ordered the occupants to surrender. During the tense confrontation, shots were fired and the driver was quickly subdued while the passenger was safely taken into custody. Officers immediately shifted their attention from the arrest to providing emergency aid and securing the area for everyone nearby. In moments like these, every decision must be made within seconds. Balancing public safety with the need to resolve the situation as safely as possible. >> Head up. Heads up. >> Head up. Heads up. [screaming] Get out of the window. >> GET OUT OF THE WINDOW. GET OUT OF THE CAR. >> GET OUT OF THE WINDOW NOW. >> GET OUT OF THE WINDOW. >> HANDS UP. >> GET OUT. >> Investigators later identified the suspects as Joshua Lopez and Miles Luciano. Court records show Luciano pleaded guilty to a federal robbery related offense and received a prison sentence. Lopez was later captured after a separate manhunt and also received a lengthy federal sentence for multiple offenses connected to the case. Looking back, one impulsive decision inside a retail store led to a chain of events involving federal investigators, local officers, and lasting legal consequences. The case stands as a reminder that attempting to escape responsibility often creates far greater consequences than facing the law in the first place. >> To me, >> let's go. We got >> I got cover, >> you guys. Vehicle's clear. >> Hey, my arm's broken. >> My left arm is broken. It's broken. Ow. Ow. It's broken. >> Oh, he's turning. 1050. 1050. Start fire. On September 19th, 2024, in Independence, Missouri, USA, officers with the Independence Police Department attempted to stop a white Kia Rio. What started as a routine effort to contact the driver quickly evolved into a dangerous pursuit that would stretch across multiple areas of the city. >> On Canterbury coming up 39th, you're blackmail. >> There's going to be a black male driver and we're going to go westbound on 39th and he's cutting through CVS. After the driver refused to stop, officers initiated a pursuit. However, when the vehicle disappeared from sight, the chase was temporarily called off and additional units began searching the surrounding area. A short time later, officers McCoy and Staff located the Kia and the pursuit resumed. As the vehicle continued to evade police, officers looked for a safe way to bring the situation under control. You're >> good. All right, he's westbound. He's sparking pretty good. You're good to do your thing. Speed's a 50. Still number one lane through 34th. All right. He just lost a whole chunk of the vehicle at 34th Street. He's in oncoming. However, there's no traffic. He's having a hard time controlling it. Oh, >> no. We're all right. We're all right. >> Oh, he's turning. 1050. 1050, start fire. >> Heavy 1050. >> Spike strips were eventually deployed in an effort to stop the fleeing vehicle. Despite the damage, the driver continued moving forward until the Kia struck a median. Moments later, the vehicle caught fire and rolled onto its side, bringing the dramatic pursuit to a sudden end. What had begun as a traffic related incident had escalated into a dangerous situation in just a matter of minutes. >> You're going to get Okay. Okay. My hands up. My hands is up. Sir, >> are you >> No, sir. Just sir, they made me do it, sir. I can take THE >> SIR, SIR. My hands is down, sir. My hands are down. >> Put your hands behind your back, >> sir. MOVE [screaming] YOUR BACK. >> I'M SORRY, SIR. >> Emergency crews responded to the scene as officers secured the area and continued their investigation.
