down. Who are you? >> Hey, adrenaline junkies. Welcome to Police Chase. Today, we're kicking off a brand new series. When people messed with the wrong cops, where every dumb move instantly triggers justice mode. All right, let's dive in. Hey, get down. >> On May 18th at around 7:45 p.m. in Houston, Texas, USA, officers responded to a tense family disturbance on Lara Road. Police said Devon Nawuchi had allegedly threatened family members with a firearm before leaving in a black Chevrolet Tahoe. What began as a domestic call was about to become far more dangerous. >> Here, get go inside. Go inside. >> While officers were investigating, Nawuchi returned in the Tahoe, saw police, and drove away. Officers soon located him on Chie's Drive, where authorities said he struck Officer Selenus's patrol vehicle before driving into a nearby yard. In seconds, the situation had completely changed. Hey, Charles 63. Police said Nawuchi exited with a firearm and used it toward Officer Selenus. When officer Donahue arrived, the threat continued despite repeated commands to put the weapon down. With little time to react, the officers use their duty weapons to bring the danger under control. A tense moment where every decision mattered. >> HEY, GET DOWN. Get down. CASE FIRE. SHE FIRE. SHE FIRE. >> Once the scene was secured, officers immediately provided medical assistance until paramedics arrived. Officer Selenus was treated for minor injuries and later released. The encounter leaves a simple lesson. One reckless choice can turn an already tense situation into a serious danger within seconds. >> I got the >> I got the hand >> everywhere all over. >> Stop. Stop. Stop. >> No. I don't know. Check the car. Check the car. >> Move. All right. Who are you? >> On June 3rd, 2022, at around 11:00 a.m. in Neapville, Illinois, USA, a veteran police officer was conducting a routine traffic stop on Bond Street near McDow Road. For nearly 12 minutes, everything appeared normal until an unrelated vehicle suddenly pulled up beside the scene. Yeah, there's a >> All right, you can take a picture and send it to me. >> Police said 28-year-old Edward San suddenly stepped out holding a hatchet and quickly moved toward the officer. There was almost no warning and barely enough time to process what was happening. In an instant, an ordinary traffic stop became [music] a serious threat. Where are you, dude? Who are you? B, I just been attacked. I just shot Shots fired. Shots fired. >> With only seconds to react, the 22-year police veteran used his duty [music] weapon to stop the approaching threat. The entire confrontation unfolded incredibly fast. A reminder that sometimes officers must make critical decisions before they even have time to fully understand why the danger began. Who are you, dude? Who are you? B, I just been attacked. I just shot Shots fired. Shots fired. >> I got >> Oh my god. >> Oh my god. >> Roll over onto your stomach. Roll over onto your stomach now. Roll over on. >> The situation was quickly brought under control and emergency medical assistance was provided. Neither the officer nor nearby bystanders were physically injured. What began as a routine stop ended as a powerful reminder. One unexpected action can change an ordinary moment in just seconds. >> Are you where you are? You good? >> Yeah, I'm good, dude. I backed up to >> Oh my god. >> Who's this guy? This is a kid on a stop. Hey, this kid's on a stop. Yeah, dude. Let's have him sit here for it. fired. >> In Los Angeles, California, USA, officers were monitoring 43-year-old Xi Vendel, who was wanted in connection with a serious case and a fugitive warrant when officers attempted a traffic stop near Alvarado Avenue and Temple Street. Police said he refused to stop. >> 91. The driver is reaching down into the front passenger compartment. Northtown Ramire passing temple of the vehicle. >> The pursuit quickly escalated when Vendel collided with another vehicle, leaving his car disabled. Police said he then got out carrying a firearm, took control of another vehicle, and continued fleeing, only to collide with another car near Third Street and Union Avenue. In just minutes, one attempt to escape had created danger across several streets. >> Keep fired. Keep fire in. After the second collision, police said Vendel emerged still holding the firearm, leading officers to respond with their duty weapons. He then ran into a gated residential complex where another tense confrontation followed. Despite the pressure, officers eventually surrounded him and brought the situation under control. Get on the floor. >> Get on the floor. >> Van Diva was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for an injury related to the earlier collision. Officers also recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun while no officers or bystanders were reported injured. After two collisions and a tense pursuit, the outcome leaves a clear reminder. Running from one problem can quickly create many more. Yeah. >> On June 14th in Hardwick, Vermont, USA, state troopers arrived to take 24-year-old Brandon Tolman into custody over allegations connected to an earlier burglary and assault case. But what should have been a controlled arrest soon became a tense family confrontation. As troopers handled the arrest, Brandon's mother, Amy Tolman, allegedly tried to interfere. Then his father, 52-year-old Wayne Tolman, made an even more unexpected move. Police said he climbed into an excavator and began moving the massive machine toward the officers. Suddenly, the danger was coming from several tons of heavy equipment. What happened to me? >> Dash cam footage captured the excavator's bucket swinging dangerously close as troopers moved quickly to avoid it while maintaining control of the scene. Despite the pressure, the officers held their positions and eventually brought the confrontation under control without further escalation. to all available units. I've got 343 and 254 in a 1010 at 170. >> All three family members were taken into custody. According to the case information, Wayne potentially faced up to 11 years if convicted, while Brandon potentially faced a much longer sentence. One attempt to interfere with an arrest had only made the consequences more serious. A powerful reminder that acting on emotion can turn one difficult moment into an even bigger problem on Glen Bridge. >> On March 12th, 2024 in St. Charles County, Missouri, USA. A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper spotted a white Chrysler 200 traveling at 102 mph on eastbound I7 near Fifth Street. When the trooper activated his emergency lights, the driver, identified as Rudolph Churchman, allegedly accelerated instead of stopping. Moments later, the Chrysler struck a Volkswagen Atlas and then a Freightlininer tanker, turning the attempted traffic stop into a multi-vehicle crash. Churchman then left his car and ran toward the bridge barrier, but his escape route was about to disappear. on Blanch Ridge. >> Hey, don't jump. >> Reaching the barrier, Churchman realized there was a drop of more than 50 ft on the other side. With nowhere safe to continue, he faced the troopers commands and finally complied. At around 3:37 p.m., officers brought the situation under control and took him into custody. Sometimes a reckless escape ends simply because there is nowhere left to run. Wait down cuz you were speed buddy. That's all I wanted to talk to you was about some speed. >> Lay down to get on me. >> That's right. >> Can I call right now? >> Not right now. >> Why you get on me like that? >> Because you WAS SPEEDING BIG DOG. >> YOU AIN'T SUPPOSED TO BE DOING 100 too right now. Hey, get your feet in there, big dog. >> Yeah. WHY I DO THAT, MAN? [screaming] THAT'S MY GIRLFRIEND CAR. >> I know, big dog. WE BOTH GOT WORKING ON ONE. >> Churchman was later taken for a medical evaluation before being booked into the St. Charles County Department of Corrections. Authorities submitted several serious charges related to fleeing the collisions and resisting the stop. What began with excessive speed had become a much bigger legal problem. A reminder that one decision on the road can change everything in seconds. >> You taking me to the the real jail? >> Yeah, man. You taking me to the real jail, bro? I work at the At around 3:30 a.m. in Dade City, Florida, USA, Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Pasco County deputies were investigating a serious hit and run on US 3001 involving a 49-year-old woman. While officers were still working at the scene, another vehicle suddenly approached, turning an already difficult night into an even more unpredictable situation. This is a pickup truck going through our city and looks like authorities said 23-year-old Andrew through Thomas Crumman [music] driving a silver Chevrolet pickup approached at speed and ignored officers commands before continuing through the investigation area and fleeing. In seconds, officers went from investigating one dangerous incident to dealing with another. >> [music] >> to my side. Sorry. We're still on 16. eastbound. >> Florida Highway Patrol pursued the pickup as Crumman continued away from the scene with other motorists potentially at risk. Troopers needed to end the pursuit quickly. They eventually used a pit maneuver, bringing the Chevrolet to a stop and taking crewmen into custody. 41 1020. Crewman later faced multiple serious allegations, including DUI, fleeing to elude, aggravated assault on law enforcement, and false imprisonment. Reports also indicated this was his eighth arrest in Pasco County in less than 4 years. One decision to keep driving had created an entirely new crisis, a reminder that ignoring a lawful stop can make an already serious situation much worse. I don't know. I don't know. >> Me right here. Okay. On February 6th, 2024, in Sebring, Florida, USA, a patrol deputy spotted a white Dodge on Sparta Road near Cal Ranch Road. According to the report, when the deputy turned around, the driver, later identified as Jaquan Salvales Hall, immediately accelerated away. What began as a simple observation quickly became a dangerous pursuit. With emergency lights and sirens activated, officers followed as the Dodge reportedly reached speeds above 130 mph on State Road 66, crossed double yellow lines, and passed other vehicles dangerously. At that speed, even one small mistake could put everyone on the road at risk. >> Westbound speeds 40 mph. He's barely able to control it. Vehicle's almost a After losing control near Skipper Road, Hall's vehicle came face to face with two patrol units. Authorities said he then accelerated and struck one of the patrol vehicles, injuring a deputy. Officers continued working to stop the Dodge, eventually making vehicle contact that left it unable to continue. The chase had finally reached its turning point. >> 33 traffic, WE GOT TO STOP. >> HANDS UP. HANDS [screaming] UP, [ __ ] HANDS UP ON THE GROUND. I WILL KILL YOU. >> Who the [ __ ] is the door? >> And there's at least three. At least three. Hall exited the vehicle and was taken into custody after officers secured the scene. According to the report, he faced allegations related to fleeing, reckless driving, striking a patrol vehicle, and driving without a valid license. After a pursuit exceeding 130 mph, the lesson was hard to miss. Trying to escape only turned one problem into several more. On August 9th, 2024, at around 3:21 p.m. on US19 near Republic Drive, Florida, USA, FHP Trooper B, Purdue noticed a silver Volkswagen speeding, following other vehicles too closely and weaving through traffic. What looked like reckless driving was about to become something far more serious. 7131 198. The Volkswagen suddenly breakd hard, creating a large cloud of dust behind it. When Trooper Purdue activated his emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly accelerated away instead. In seconds, a traffic violation had turned into a pursuit. Go ahead. >> As the Volkswagen continued through traffic, every sudden move increased the risk to everyone nearby. Trooper Purdue stayed behind the vehicle, trying to bring the situation under control before another driver became involved. At moments like this, one wrong move can change everything. HANDS UP. [screaming] HANDS UP. HANDS UP. LOCK YOUR HANDS RIGHT NOW. HANDS UP. GO. HANDS UP. HANDS UP RIGHT NOW. HANDS UP. TURN THE WINDOW DOWN. TURN THE WINDOW DOWN. Pit on the FRONT DOOR POINT. HEY, TURN THE CAR OFF. TURN THE CAR OFF NOW. HANDS UP. HANDS UP. What began with speeding and unsafe lane changes became far more serious when the driver allegedly chose not to stop. The dash cam footage leaves a simple reminder. A traffic stop can be handled in minutes, but trying to escape can create consequences that last much longer. >> You guys check myself, >> huh? check myself. >> On July 6th, 2026 at 7:23 p.m. in Houston, Texas, USA, an offduty Houston police officer spotted 30-year-old Jamarcus Wel Spates inside a vehicle reported stolen from Fort Ben County and linked to an assault investigation. Surrender to your safety. If you're new, let it bite you. Give commands. >> Put your hands up. >> Hold right there. Put your hands up. >> On duty officers arrived and ordered Spates to exit, but he remained inside the vehicle for nearly 30 minutes. The tension continued to build as officers waited for his next move. >> Show me your hand. >> Hand up. >> Show me your hand. >> Fire will move up soon. >> Show your hand. Show me your hands. >> Just open the door. Show your hands. >> Show your hands. Show your hands. Open the door. SHOW YOUR HANDS. >> At 7:53 p.m., officers approached the vehicle. Police said Spates pushed open the driver's door and extended his arm in what appeared to be a shooting position. Eight officers and one sergeant then discharged their duty weapons. >> Show me YOUR HAND. JUST OPEN DOORS ON YOUR HANDS. Officers used a drone before removing space and providing medical aid. He was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover. No officers were injured. Spates later faced a felony charge for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle with bond set at $35,000. Go ahead. A passenger surrendered safely while investigators recovered the rifle in a high-capacity magazine. Neither officer was injured and both were placed on administrative leave while the investigation continued. Shots fired. [music] >> Nope. On June 7th, 2023, at 12:27 p.m. in Rantel, Illinois, USA, officer Renee Whistle spotted a vehicle that had previously fled from police. First for following a commercial vehicle dangerously close, then for blowing through a 45 mph zone at over 70. Something about this driver was not right. When Schumate activated lights and sirens, the Tesla re-entered the interstate and accelerated hard. Troopers Cash and Corporal Ibara joined the pursuit. Schumatate attempted multiple tactical vehicle interventions but could not stop the vehicle and his patrol unit was disabled after a tire blew out during one of the attempts pulling him out of the chase entirely. We'll be driving through somebody's field. Oh no. We're eastbound through the field now. Going north through another cornfield. Now we're westbound through people's backyards. >> Reuben cut through civilian backyards before stopping behind a residence on Robinwood Road and surrendering. He showed his hands but refused to get out, saying he feared for his life, then rolled up his window and locked the doors. The trooper used an expandable baton to break the driver window, reached in and attempted to pull Edwards through the opening before Edwards jerked free. A deputy then unlocked the door from inside, and Edwards was physically removed from the vehicle. >> Open the [ __ ] door. I own this. Get the [ __ ] out of the car now. >> I own this. >> Edwards resisted arrest on the ground. Trooper Plyer deployed seven taser cartridges across multiple attempts before the final probe struck Edwards in the lower abdomen, causing full neuromuscular incapacitation. His body locked up midstep and he fell backward, hitting the back of his head on the asphalt and sustaining a laceration approximately 1 and a/4 in long. He was placed into custody without any further force. Edwards sustained abrasions to his back and arms and a laceration to the back of his head from the fall. The driver window and the front bumper of Trooper Plyers's patrol unit were damaged in the incident. Edwards had told officers he feared for his life. Yet, he had driven directly toward a trooper's vehicle, locked himself inside, and fought through seven taser deployments before it was over.
