Thank you for coming. Uh, I want to start off with with something I think everybody needs to understand that we do not investigate based on what the media thinks, what the what social media thinks. When we do an investigation, it's for one reason and one reason alone, and that is to make sure that the victim gets justice. And if that investigation takes 12 hours or a year, when we get all the facts together, working closely with the state attorney's office, we're going to bring justice. Okay? So for all the arm tread quarterbacks and the keyboard commandos out there, we're going to do our job the way we sit see fit. Because at the end of the day, this investigation is about one thing. It's about making sure that Tammy Joe Baker gets justice. And if it takes 12 hours or a year, we're going to do what we need to do to make sure that family gets that justice. So now, yesterday we gave you preliminary information. Some of it was wasn't right, but it was firsthand information. We're going to get the information out there. Now, we have a little bit more detail on what's going on. So, we're going to put up to the best of our ability. This is the timeline. Anything outside of that timeline, I can't answer because I don't know. So, detectives, this is what they got. Between 9 and 9:30 a.m., our suspect reports to work at Boogie Down Beach Golf Cart and Bicycle Reynolds in the Shores. Between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m., she's sent home because of inclement weather. At 11:08, we know she arrives in Mets 2 lounge and she reportedly has based on the receipts that we have, she has two running coats and somebody buys her a shot. When she's questioned by detectives yesterday or our THI or traffic homicide investigators, she admits to having a vodka and Gatorade mixture where she emptied some of the Gatorade out and filled the bottle with vodka. And that's somewhere prior to the crash. 12:29, a report comes in. will play the the the uh the radio, the 911 calls describing how she was driving. Everything you see, mailbox, trash can, drove the wrong way against traffic, almost in a vehicle head on Peninsula Drive. 4 minutes, 3 minutes later, a second caller comes in to report that that vehicle was all over the road, Pennsylvania tag on it, and both describe it as a woman driving the vehicle. At 12:38, she kills our victim. What you're not going to see in here is that our victim, Tammy Joe Baker, enters that booth at 123805. At 12:40, she's dead. At 12:39, AMT's are on location providing or trying to save Tommy Joe's life. So, Andrew, >> 911. What's the address of your emergency? Yes, there's a black driver, drunk driver, black Chevy truck going down peninsula towards stun lotton at the time being >> with the Pennsylvania license plate >> almost hit several cars right >> man ran into a trash can making a Uturn in the middle of peninsula tried to pass two separate times driving down the wrong side of the road. >> Okay. Black Chevy truck. >> Yes. >> Pennsylvania. >> And it's a woman driving, a blondhaire woman driving. >> Okay. And which way currently is it going on p on peninsula? Is it going south or >> south? Southbound towards Dunlton. >> Okay. >> We're up at the school at the time being when it all happened. The elementary school. At that time she was going northbound. >> Then she made an illegal U-turn in the middle of the peninsula. >> Okay. >> And then when she made a U-turn, she was heading straight for us and we had stopped so she could we stay out of her way. >> Yeah. She almost hit us head on. >> Okay. >> All right. All right. What is your name and what's the phone number for you? >> Okay. All right. We'll put it out for our units to be on the lookout for it. Okay. >> All right. Thanks. Bye. >> You're welcome. Bye. >> 911. What is the address of your emergency? >> Um, actually, I'm calling to report a very drunk driver. >> All right. What street are they driving on? And what's the nearest intersection? They're on Peninsula and Daytona Beach Shores. Um, just north of Peninsula and Carter. >> Carter. Okay. Which direction are they traveling? >> Traveling south. It's a older model GMC with Pennsylvania tags. >> What color is the GMC? >> Uh, kind of a gray color. >> Okay. What are they doing? It's a a young blonde lady. Um, she was all over the road. Really, really, really bad. >> Okay. Okay. >> Did you see the license plate number from Pennsylvania? >> I got C605 something. I didn't get the whole thing. Um, >> Gotcha. Okay. All right. Just stay at a safe distance. Um, I did put in a call and we'll let the units in the area know what's going on so that they can um be on the lookout. Okay. Just stay at a station. So, okay. >> Okay. Thank you. I've never done this before. Like, that's how bad it was. >> Okay. Yeah. You've done you you've been helpful. You've done everything right. >> All right. Thank you. >> You're welcome. Have a good day. Bye-bye. I need an O2 tank right now. >> Where's Where's this driver? >> Hey, she needs O2. Where's Where's this driver? >> Driver is down there sitting on the beach. There's a car next to her. >> Woman smell of alcohol >> right there. That guard All right. Anyway, Hello. >> Yeah. Crazy. You have any medical conditions that we need to know about? >> All right. Time's going out, right? >> Ma'am, what's what's your last name? around. K R E L O >> E L L K A R R E L O L >> All right, here's what's going to happen right now. I'm going to put handcuffs on you. Okay. What? >> Well, she's going to put handcuffs on you. >> Are you serious? >> Yep. She's serious. >> Uhoh. I'm sorry. >> And then we'll put her into that car. >> I got a car right now. >> Yes. And we'll tell you we'll tell you what's going on in the middle. >> Yep. >> Nope. But we're going to explain what's going on here. Okay. >> So, as soon as that happens, we'll let you know. >> All right. Just a second. Seriously? >> Yep. >> Could you please not record this? >> That's okay. Let me second real quick. Hold on. Hold on. I'm just taking your bracelet off. >> All right. You're not going to try to wiggle your wrist out of that, are you? Cuz I'm going to make them tighter if you're going to be a problem for him. >> No. Okay. >> No. Just really wish this video. >> All right, go ahead and step in. >> So, before I get into her, here's where we're at right now. We are waiting to execute a search warrant to recover any and all evidence inside of the vehicle. We have been in contact with the state attorney's office since this has occurred. We are in the process of getting video from Mets's bar that shows her in there drinking. Once all of those things come together, we're going to go, State Attorney already knows we're going back and asking for a warrant for vehicular homicide and no bond. We asked for it last night and we were turned down. They wanted more information. We've gone out today and gotten more information to do that. She was Bakeracted because she had made statements about wanting to take her own life. As far as I can tell right now, she still is in Baker Act custody. She is 35 years old. She has no real criminal history. She has a risk protection order uh out on her from 200 25 uh basically where she's not allowed to possess firearms. Uh the address that she gives us is a state park, which is where she lives in a state park. And and and that's where we are at. I think the thing to take away is you're here and you're gone. 35 seconds after our victim enters the booth, she's dead. And our job is to build a case to make sure that Tammy Joe and her family get justice. And I am proud of every single traffic homicide investigator for working around the clock on this. And I'm also really proud of the lifeguards and the EMTs who were there to do their job as the best they can in in not in horrific uh uh situation. Just horrific. Nobody's going to survive that. And they did their best. So, what he's got, >> what did her blood alcohol content? >> We have no idea. No idea. God knows when we'll get it back. And that's when you investigate traffic homicides, there's a lot that's still going on. Blood alcohol is number one. The other thing is the condition of the vehicle. Was there a mechanical failure in that vehicle that the defense is going to say, well, the brakes didn't work or the accelerator was broke or whatever to try to mitigate this. That has to be done. Those two things alone take up take take time on top of everything else. turning 63 this month, right? >> She her birthday was June 16th. She would have turned uh 63 on June 16th. >> You obviously got calls 10 minutes before this happened. Did any deputies spot her before or >> Well, I I think the question would be that's city limits. Nobody spot her. Like somebody spotted her. If they would have spotted her and pulled her over, she would have been locked up for DUI and nobody would be alive. that you know there's a 5 minute or 7 minute window up there and you you probably shave off another 3 minutes by the time the call got dispatched. So you're looking at maybe 3 to 4 minutes after those calls had come in. >> What additional charger charges you looking at? >> Uh vehicular manage is what we're going with now and then obviously it would be enhanced if the tox comes back. it's going to come back because she also has prescribed medical marijuana and then she's prescribed a bunch of different medical marijuana, oral inhaler, uh you name it. There's all different kinds of medical marijuana in there, too. And then and people need to understand something on top of the alcohol. Just because you have a prescription for medical marijuana doesn't mean you're supposed to drive when you're using it. It's no different than Turkin Percoetses where it says do not drive or operate machinery. And if you're drinking vodka and Gatorade and you're drinking rum and cokes and you're drinking shots, somebody's going to have a a bad day and end up dead. >> I want to know for you personally, we all when you know yesterday you said 40 miles an hour, no slowing down, continuing through, but to see that is really startling when you first saw that video for the first time. What went through your head? >> Shocked. Shocked. Sickened. And just think somebody lost their life over this. He couldn't survive it. And I'm and I'm guesstimating 40 that that that the investigators will be able to tell you more from the traffic crash damage when they get into the car. And it's an older vehicle, so it's instead of like a newer vehicle where you have all that stuff in there. So >> just from what I saw, it's like she didn't even care. What was her demeanor? It just seemed like >> that's why we showed that. That was her demeanor. >> That that was her demeanor. You saw it. That's why we made sure we put that in there. And then obviously during when we questioned her, she made statements about wanting to kill herself. She's the one who told us about um you know, dumping out half the Gatorade bottle and filling it to the top with vodka. I think they were the exact words if I'm if I'm not mistaken. So, and then of course she made the the the I want I want to I want to end my life. That's why she got Baker acted. >> She obviously had to know what she's doing or what she did because from that to where she ended up, she was really trying to get away. I think from when and this is just my assumption from what the witness told us she was trying to get away because she goes in the ocean. She goes southbound and the nature stops her from going any further, you know, and again, we said this yesterday. Suppose it was Sunday. Suppose it was Memorial Day weekend. I mean, it just happened to be on a Tuesday, a Monday afternoon, and the beach was not crowded. But what what would have happened had that been that that's one of our more busier places? You kids there and everything else. And be honest with you, that's one of our fears that's down there. If you're a terrorist or you're suicidal, what better way to get on the beach and than mow people down before we take you out or before you take yourself out and you have all these casualties. We're vulnerable down there, you know, especially on Easter Sunday, uh, where they were doing services down there. That was one of our fears was that in the climate we live in today, somebody gets on there with a truck or a car, they're going to cause a lot of carnage before anybody's able to put an end to it.
