with veterans day tomorrow we've got a look into a truly inspirational story in fact officer todd reed and mesa served his country overseas and ended up getting severely injured while doing so and thanks to technology and more importantly his determination and the love of the game he was then able to serve his community karen brown has more on this story when todd reed runs up some stairs hits a softball during the wounded warrior celebrity game at salt river field or has proudly worn his mesa pd uniform for the last 20 years he'd never know the former army ranger was missing his right foot it's caught people off guard when they ask me if you could turn the clock back would you and i tell them no i wouldn't i was doing exactly what i wanted to do serving my country in 1991 during operation desert storm reed stepped on a land mine the last thing i wanted to do was die over there you know laying on this dirt path when i was in walter reed one of the first things i asked my doctor and my wife was in the room with me i said am i going to be able to play softball again and he looked at me puzzled and he said most people are more concerned about what they're going to do for a living i said oh i'm not i'm not worried about that i said if i can play softball again i can do anything for a living it took him only four months to get back on the field and within a year he had joined mesa pd all with a prosthetic in the past 20 years between playing softball and the police department chasing people and going over walls i've probably broke in about 25 or more he's retiring next week you know the city and the police department have just been so supportive it's unbelievable as have his wounded warrior teammates and the fact that we're all missing body parts and we constantly razz each other we constantly joke about it the thing is we don't want people to feel sorry for us you know we're very blessed we you know we were injured serving our country
