Could anything like this have been triggered only by simple thefts like a dramatic chase? >> 398 radio 1 in foot pursuit of the subject. He just ran from me. Heading towards PLB. >> Or was it all just a series of unbelievable lies they tried to come up with at the moment? >> I'm mentally ill. Okay, if you're mentally ill, you shouldn't be spitting at people. >> I didn't >> I'm a snake. >> It's not to take I wasn't trying to take anything, honestly. Okay? My intention was not to steal anything. >> It was all a desperate attempt to escape the evidence the police had already gathered. >> All these clothes. >> Not seen. >> No. And he's got that big thing on the bottom, too. >> Here are moments when skip scan thieves realize they've been caught at self-checkout in 4K. We hope this video [music] brought some entertainment to your day. We are This is Law. Don't forget to like and subscribe to support us in creating more videos like this. Let's begin with the woman's lies in the surveillance footage that completely dismantled her story. >> So, why go through self-checkout, purchase the tote, and then try to leave the store? >> Yeah, just wait for it. >> [music] >> Holy cow. >> On the 26th of October, 2025, officers responded to a report from a Walmart after store employees detained a woman suspected of shoplifting. Before we confront the suspect, let's take a look at the surveillance footage the store had captured earlier, showing the same woman wearing the very same uniform. >> Yeah. So, there's also going to be some personal items down there like dog food >> Mhm. >> that she puts the tote of candy on top of the dog food. >> And doesn't pay for that stuff. >> I got to backtrack and make sure there's no chance that she could have paid for it, but it's like it's at the bottom of the the basket. She covers it up with a heavy tote of candy. >> So, this is on a 30th, correct? >> This is on the 30th. >> Okay. >> So, there's a tote without the lid. >> Okay. So, she's throwing all in. She puts it in the back. >> Yeah, pushes it to back. Obviously, I need to do the full video to make sure there's no chance she's paid for it, but it's at the bottom of the basket. There's whatever one of my associates actually does her job for once and takes the tote the top of the tote off and sees all this stuff. >> Yeah, let's wait for it. >> Holy cow. >> Yeah, there's [snorts] LEGO sets on LEGO sets on LEGO sets. >> I need to page an associate. Can I please have backup cashier assistance? >> So, that's all inside of there. But again, I won't not speak out of turn. I want to make sure that I that she didn't at any point pay for this already. But that's pretty suspicious in our line of work. That's pretty rare to see people >> What date is this one? >> This was 8/27. >> Oh, okay. >> And our our logs on this on the secure platform only goes so far. So, that's all inside of there. Again, I won't not speak out of turn. I want to make sure that I that she didn't at any point pay for this already. But >> Clearly, this was not the first time the woman had engaged in shoplifting, but what you may not know this time, she was stopped by the store's loss prevention team. To justify her actions, she came up with an excuse of her own. >> Were you just getting off work and stuff? Okay. >> So, I'm getting stuff for PD for that. I lost my keys in my brand >> Oh. >> So, I was going to ask the lady at the front if she could help me. >> Okay. And then I don't know if you have keys and stuff. Okay. >> So, I'm flustered cuz I got a phone call, too. >> Okay. Yeah, and he'll he'll chat with you about it and we'll try to figure out. Do you So, you're you're just literally coming back from back into Sholo. Okay. I got you. Okay. >> Do you have your weapon on you? >> No, I took it off. >> Okay. >> So, is that all personal stuff on you? >> Mhm. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right, we're done here then. >> So, I'm going to take you out there. Special courtesy, I'm not putting you in handcuffs. But we're going to take you to your car, put you in the back. I'm going to take your bag just to make sure you have nothing on you, okay? >> Fair enough. >> And then we'll we'll chat down at the PD and stuff, okay? I'm I'm pitched behind you, so. We're going to walk around here real quick, so. She's still She's got a patrol car here. And Melissa, you said you you didn't have your duty weapon on you or anything like that, any of that stuff, okay. All right. Just making sure, just making sure. So. >> If you noticed, she was even wearing a law enforcement uniform, meaning she fully understood what constituted criminal behavior. That made her explanation even harder to believe, and officers immediately began questioning the credibility of her entire story. >> I'm just really flustered finding out that a family member had passed, and then like I said, I'm trying to find my keys to get out of there. It just >> Okay, so a few questions I have is uh so the tote you have, how come you were putting it inside and putting the lid on it? >> Cuz I'm going to fit another tote in there with candy, if that makes any sense. It just fits side by side. >> So you put in the car two totes. >> Yes. >> Candy, okay. So you said you came here and you're buying it for the department. What were you buying for the department? >> Candy. >> For what? >> Uh it's the trunk or treats. >> They're trunk or treat? When is it? >> Uh we have Wednesday, 13th and the 10th, and then I have the 10th or the 17th, the 24th, and then the 29th and the 31st. >> So is this your department paying for that? >> Yes, they gave me $500. >> So you have 500 cash on you right now? >> Uh no, I was just going to use my card and then they >> Your bank card? >> Yes. >> So do you have any cash on you now? >> Uh just 100 bucks. >> Is that personal or city money? >> That's my personal money. >> Your own personal? >> Yeah. >> So even though when I was you heard loss prevention how they're saying you went to the general merchandise, they came back there, came back around this side. >> walked through to go talk to him about keys. I I realized I didn't >> So the whole thing you know, the reason you went back and back and forth is because you can't find your keys. >> Yes. >> The officers then confirmed her story with Walmart employees and reviewed the surveillance footage from the incident. When they returned, they decided to give her one more chance to come clean and tell the truth. >> Went to video and saw the video on that. And I just seen where, you know, each time going through there concealing the items. And then you Why'd you grab an extra Walmart bag? When you checked out? >> I did I? >> Yeah. >> I didn't realize that. >> Well, even in your bag you got a bunch of empty Walmart bags. >> those are for poop for my Belgian Malinois. So I keep >> So you keep them when you buy, but you don't recall grabbing one today? >> I usually just grab one and I use it to pick up the dog poop. >> I mean, here while you're leaving, why would you grab one if you didn't need a bag for your items purchased? >> I sorry. >> Okay. Well, and then initially you told me you came here because the trunk or treat didn't So you gave me Well, none of the stuff you had with you were nothing with candy or nothing like that. >> Well, yeah. So I was going to do my stuff and then come through and get the candy stuff cuz it's it's really heavy to carry in a tote. The candy bags are are >> Well, I'mma be straight with you cuz the other officer went in there, watched the video, all your interactions, everything you did, and it and doesn't appear that nothing would happen accidentally today. >> Well, I I asked if they could help me find my keys. I asked if anybody had left keys. I don't know if you've asked and talked >> Yeah. Well, no, I did. I I did ask him and verify keys and stuff like that. And he said no one turned in any keys, no one nothing like that. And they And they even at the point that they brought up the fact that every time when you went towards exit, you put the phone up like you you're on the phone, then you put it back down. And so >> No, I hung up the call. I it's I just >> Okay. >> my mom. >> Okay. So I'm just saying, you know, it just doesn't look good the whole thing, but I just ask you to be honest cuz here's the situation here. And this is the what the what I was told cuz I'm here new here from Phoenix. >> The woman continued to stick to her false story, prompting the officers to confront her directly with the allegations. Of course, [music] every accusation was backed by solid evidence they had already verified. >> So you went to self-checkout, right? >> Yes. >> And what did you purchase at the self-checkout? >> I just got the tote. I was >> Why not the items inside of the tote? >> Completely I don't know how they got in there. I didn't I know, but >> Then you tried to leave the store? >> Yes. >> And you got confronted by asset protection? >> Yeah, I was trying to go to talk to that lady to see if she could hold my cart. >> Mhm. >> I was looking for my keys. Honest, looking for my keys. >> I understand that. I understand that. Um I believe that you're looking for your keys. Right? >> Yes. >> But here's the deal, you did a crime today. >> I know it doesn't look good. >> Mhm no, it's illegal. It's not that it doesn't look good. It's it's shoplifting. >> In the end, the woman was charged with shoplifting. What do you think about the way this woman tried to defend herself? [music] Do you believe she was actually a real law enforcement officer, or was she simply wearing the uniform to give herself confidence while committing the [music] crime? Let us know what you think in the comments below. Next, this giant shoplifter shed tears of belated regret after trying to play games with the police. >> Okay, put your hands behind your back then you'll be under you'll be placed under arrest for shoplifting. What is your name? I'm not sitting here to play games. >> On the 23rd of October 2025, police received a report from Walmart about a shoplifting incident. The suspect was believed to have been a woman who fled immediately afterward. But with the description they had been given, officers quickly found her in a nearby area. Here's what happened next. >> Right there. >> Ma'am, please. We're just uh investigating a theft from Walmart. >> All right. >> So at this time you're just detained until we figure out what's going on, okay? You match the description. They said a female with gray sweatpants, gray sweatshirt. Okay? So the other officer is speaking with them. Do you know what I'm talking about? What happened? What may have happened? Are we going to speak? Okay. Do you have your ID on you? You have no ID? What's your name? >> I'll spell it for you but I don't know >> You have to give your information. What's your name? >> My adult >> Okay, put your hands behind your back then you'll be you'll be placed under arrest for obstruction. What is your name? I'm not sitting here to play games. >> She seemed to have used her Miranda right to remain silent as a way to refuse to cooperate. After being warned by the officers, she finally began giving her identity but her answers raised serious doubts about whether they were genuine. >> Which one? Which one what? >> I have two names. >> You have two names? >> Yes. >> Okay, what is your name that would be on your proper uh if you have a license, what would that name be? So we can identify you. What is it? Candy? >> Yes. >> What? Okay, I'm asking >> want to make it up for my name. >> I'm trying to hear you. I can't hear you. You had your head turned that way. >> Candy, c a n >> What is it? C a n >> C a n d i e >> d i e What's your last name? >> House. >> House? >> What's your last name? >> Hey, drop the attitude right now. Spell your last name. >> House. >> Spell your last name. I can't spell this stuff. Thank you. What's your birthday? Your social security number? Okay, where do you live? What's your address? D D as in dog? >> The officers ran her name through the system but nothing came up. They then asked for her second name, yet it also seemed far from credible. >> What's your other name? >> Diamond. >> Diamond? What's the last name for Diamond? Can you spell it? >> D i m o n Would that have the same date of birth, I would assume? But that one's not on any sort of Do you have your ID? I think she witnessed it. >> I thought they said off duty officer. >> You can't find anything? >> No ID. >> Do you have an ID? Have you ever had an ID? Ah, we'll find something. That's fine if you tell us the right name. We'll Yeah. >> She didn't want to give ID right off the bat, so I'm assuming there's something to it. >> Yeah, well, she said she used to have an ID, so >> While waiting for the second name to be checked through the system, >> [music] >> the officers took advantage of her growing cooperation to question her about the incident. She then began admitting everything. >> Did you take anything from Walmart? Yeah. Do you have it on you? Left at the door? Well, we try not to take people to the county. I don't know how they do it over in Wayne. Have you been arrested before? Yeah, a lot or >> Same thing, shoplifting? >> So, it goes by your score, you know? Have you Do you know that or not? What's that? So, we're going to I mean, we're going to do our best not to take you to county. >> The woman didn't appear remorseful as she admitted to the theft. In reality, though, she seemed to be trying to stay composed because moments after she was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car, tears of belated regret began to fall. >> I'll give me a fair place in front of your back. You're placed under arrest. I'm sorry? This is why you're placed under arrest for shoplifting. >> [sighs and panting] >> 20 20 20 25 82 you stop. >> All good. Thank you. >> [snorts] >> In the end, the woman was charged with shoplifting. >> [music] >> Don't mistake staying calm after getting caught for escaping the consequences. Taking responsibility before it's too late is always the better choice. Before the next shoplifter, take one last look at this intoxicated woman who pretended to be mentally ill and see what shocking she did. >> If you're mentally ill, you shouldn't be spitting at people. >> Got you. >> I'm a spitter. I did. >> Is that the housekeeper? >> On the 23rd of March, 2025, officers were dispatched to a Buffalo Wild Wings after receiving reports of a woman causing a disturbance inside the restaurant. To understand exactly what she did, listen to the staff's statements as they describe the shocking incident in detail. >> Yeah, bossman, good thing you got gloves. She's full of pee, flipping everybody off. >> She did what? >> Cussing. Yeah, she the bar. She's being nasty. She peed all over the floor, boss. Started cussing out the manager. >> Okay. Same, yeah. sorry. >> What's going on? All right, she's >> So, what? >> There's a lady at the bar. She seems like she's on drugs or something. She took her pants off in the middle of the bar and peed all over the floor. Um she's been spitting at people. She's spitting at me. >> [laughter] >> And >> Yeah, she's a fool. Yeah, she's going to be in the blue shirt. But, I'd be very careful. She's pissed herself all over the floor. >> know who that is. I don't know her name. >> No. >> [laughter] >> At first, I just thought she poured things out, but I didn't realize she was urinating. So, then I asked her to pull her pants back up and let's go. And she's just absolutely refusing. And then I guess she just started spitting at everybody. Spitted at her and at you. No, I didn't. Yeah, I was Yeah, she tried to spit. Do you know her? >> I don't know her name, but I know she's from the theater. She lives right here on Elford somewhere. >> Immediately afterward, the officers approached the woman who was still sitting in the middle of the nightmare she had created for the restaurant. Without hesitation, they made their decision. >> Hello, ma'am. Can you step up? Step up. Come on. >> Can you stand up? >> Stand up. Careful. You're going to fall in your pee. >> Wait, my pants are pulled up. Pull your pants up. Take a step up. Her leg's hurting. Okay. Come on. >> Okay. Come on. This is yours. Huh? Okay. Come on. Okay. Come on. We're going to go over there. >> I am crazy. ill. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> I'm mentally ill. >> Have a seat. >> Have a seat in there. >> I'm sorry. >> I'm mentally ill. >> You're mentally ill? >> What are you diagnosed with? >> I'm mentally ill. >> Okay, have a seat. >> Have a seat. >> Have a seat and then you can swing your feet in. >> Come in. >> I'm mentally ill. >> Okay, get in the car. You might believe she was suffering from a mental illness that caused her behavior, but that was only the excuse she relied on. The officers had other evidence suggesting she was fully aware of what she was doing. Come in. Take a seat. >> I'm mentally ill. >> Okay, if you're mentally ill, you shouldn't be spitting at people. >> Thank you. >> I wasn't spitting at you. >> You weren't spitting at nobody? >> No, I didn't. >> Okay, have a seat. >> Have a seat. Come in. We don't have time. >> I think I broke her nose. We dealt with her before. >> Oh my gosh. >> Have a seat. >> Oh my gosh. >> Samantha, what is your last name? >> Archuleta. >> Archuleta? What's your date of birth? >> I don't remember. >> Yes, you remember. What's your date of birth? >> I don't remember. >> So, you know you have to give us your name and [clears throat] date of birth, right? >> That's concealing identity. What's your date of birth? >> I'm not sure. >> You're not sure? >> No. >> So, you know you're mentally ill, but you don't know your >> I said I'm mentally ill. >> What are you diagnosed with? >> I'm mentally ill. >> What are you diagnosed with? >> I'm mentally ill. >> Do I identify? >> That's not a diagnosis. >> I'm mentally ill. >> That's a statement. >> matter. Go ahead and grab >> Huh? >> I'm mentally ill. I'm mentally ill. >> Did you buy any drinks from the bar? >> I'm mentally ill. I'm mentally ill. It doesn't matter. >> Okay. Well, then it is that you're going to go to jail. >> Even more telling, the woman soon began pleading with the officers over her case, raising even more suspicion that she had been pretending to be mentally ill. >> You're not Samantha, you're Sandra. >> Can I go home? >> Well, you're going to get charges for concealing. You don't care? No? Okay. Ready? Step out of the car. Come on, step out of the car. >> Can you just leave me alone? >> I can't hear you. >> We can take the cuffs off once you get out. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm mentally ill. >> Okay. Step out of the car. You're drunk as well. Come on. I'll help you out. Step. Step. Come on. We're going to go that way. Do you hear? Right here. You're going to receive a citation. Okay? Just wait. >> Okay. You see that citation? >> Right here. >> Right here. >> Here. You have to sign it. Come on. >> just leave me alone? >> Okay, sign this. Grab the pen. >> If you don't sign it, then you're for sure going to to jail. >> Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Let me tell you where. Right here. >> Where that empty line is. >> Okay. Thank you. That's yours. >> Take that. >> If you don't go to court, you have to go to court by 3 days, by Wednesday. If you don't go to court, a warrant's going to be issued for your arrest. Okay? I know you're so drunk that you're not going to remember. >> to go home. >> Okay. Okay. I'm going to put your stuff in there. >> The officers were convinced the woman was intoxicated, not suffering from the condition she claimed. They then helped escort her home. But even then, [music] she never seemed willing to drop the act. >> Put it on the other side. >> [laughter] >> Come on. Let's go. Let's go. >> Come on. You're going to go home. >> We're not going to leave you [clears throat] out here. >> Right here. Come on. >> It hurts >> [laughter] >> so bad. What hurts? Okay. Well, let's get you to your apartment. >> [laughter] >> Okay. You're almost home. You're almost home. >> There you go. >> Thank you. Thank you so much. >> We're going to wait till you go inside. >> Okay. >> Make sure you get inside, okay? >> I'm crazy. >> You're not crazy. >> I'm mentally ill. >> Okay. >> Get inside. >> I really really wish. I really wish. >> [laughter] >> Is that the house key? >> Yes. >> This one is? >> Yeah. >> Okay, step to the side. >> Right here. Step over. There you go. >> Thank you. Thank you so much. >> We saved your life. Don't forget to go to court. >> I won't. >> Okay. >> You have the paperwork right there. >> On your hand. >> The woman was charged with criminal trespass and concealing identity. A single reckless decision can damage your credibility, and pretending to avoid responsibility often makes the consequences even worse. Next, this man even claimed that he understood the law. >> All right, you got What what is what's the charge? >> Hold on. >> And I'm ex law enforcement, so >> Oh, yeah, well, that's that's too bad. >> I know too bad too bad to hear that. >> Hey, I know how to build nuclear but I know how to build a bomb. >> On the 24th of March, 2024, officers responded to a report of a theft at the Oakley store inside the airport. The suspect had already fled the scene by the time they arrived. Upon arrival, officers quickly gathered a detailed description of the man and immediately began searching for him before he could get any farther away. >> Sure of the guy? >> No, I don't. >> The thief you describe him again? >> He's probably your height. Like he's like 6 ft. He's skinny. >> Uh-huh. >> Black hat. He's look he's all black. He's black skinny. >> on? >> Yeah, like a white headphone like >> Did he look homeless? >> Yeah, beard. >> Nah. >> Was he alone? >> He was alone. Literally, I opened the doors back up. I put the door stop here. >> Did you see his face really good or >> Yeah, it was all he was black. >> I mean like a like facial hair or anything like that? >> Yeah, he had a little bit of facial hair, black black hat. Like he was all blacked out. He was black guy with black clothing, black hat, like he said the white I guess the AirPods. I have a sign here that says back in 15 minutes. So, I'm taking it off as I'm taking it off, he kind of just walks over there. And as he's walking I'm like, "Hey sir, how can I help you? Welcome in." The guy says around like "I'm taking these and you ain't doing [ __ ] about it." And I say, "Hey can I help you?" He's like, "You have questions about the glasses?" Like, "I can't I can't by my company be like "You're stealing, give me my stuff back." I'm like, "Hey I can questions about the glasses?" Like, "No, I'm taking them." And he just walked off. >> Which way did he go? >> That way. >> All right. Is that him right here? Is he I mean it's a yes or no question. I can't you can't work off >> Well, I'm visually impaired. >> Oh, sorry I didn't sorry sorry. >> I can't see from my here. >> All right. All right, okay. All right. >> At the same time, officers spotted a man walking past the store who matched the suspect's description and they quickly moved in to make contact with him. >> You done? >> Yeah, so what's going on? We got a call that what you call it? So, you went in Oakley's? >> What what do you mean? Store right there? >> Yeah. >> Which store? The the Oakley's store right there? >> This one. Mickey D's. >> No, that wasn't me. That wasn't me. >> That wasn't you? >> No, no, no, no. Oh, that wasn't me. Mickey D's. >> Hold on. Hey, what's good, bro? Did you go in there earlier? >> No, no. I was at Mickey D's. Was it you? >> You're here? >> No, no, that wasn't me. >> Okay. We're going to detain you for a little bit, okay? Just hang tight. And if if the ID is negative >> I work here. You good. >> Oh. >> Yeah, yeah. I'm working here. >> All right. So, what's uh what's the description of the guy, sir? >> Huh? >> What's the description of the guy? >> Well, he's actually 6'1". So, >> I'm 6'2". So, he's taller. >> Yeah, yeah, all right. So, did he just come in and swiped and left? >> So, I said yeah, so he can ID, but then he has to be really close. So, I asked him from here. I don't even know if he'll be an ID. Well, he won't ride anyways. All black everything, but that guy is too, but >> I want to see he went into cuz he >> Cuz he came from this way, right? >> After confirming that the man they had stopped was not the suspect, officers reviewed airport surveillance footage with the store employee. Within just a few minutes, the real suspect was located. >> Yes, you will stop. Stop. Come on over here for me. Yes, you are. Over there, please. Right here near the wall? Right here near the wall? Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your your back. That was just That was just Put your hands out. Like I ain't disrespecting nobody, man. You guys are all disrespecting me for what? >> He denied stealing the merchandise and made things more difficult for officers by refusing to cooperate. He should have known the situation would have been much easier if he hadn't resisted, especially since he later admitted that he was a former law enforcement officer. >> What I'm doing, sir? >> And I'm ex-law enforcement, so >> Oh, yeah? Well, that's that's too bad. Too bad Too bad to hear that. >> Hey, I know how to build nuclear Well, I know how to build a bro >> Oh, you know how to build a nuclear jail? You want to make me an enemy? All right. I know how to nuclear fusion. That's what I studied, bro. I'm an engineer. >> Do you think the man really believed those claims made him seem too honorable to commit theft? Yet, moments later, he contradicted himself by admitting that he had taken the missing pair of glasses. >> Hey, I know if the if [laughter] the glasses The glasses Okay, the glasses are in there.
