[Music] My name is Michael Gisham and I'm a forensic scientist here in the firearms unit. On a day-to-day basis, I carry out casework that has firearms or firearms related evidence. Forensics is is very important to investigations in law enforcement. We follow very stringent policies and procedures to make sure our work quality meets the highest specifications. We're the people doing the work generally behind the investigators and detectives. and you don't really see us until you really need us. The most satisfying thing for me when I get something, especially a firearm that's broken or not working quite right, and I'm able to take the gun apart and figure out what exact exactly this gun wasn't acting the way it was supposed to, what broke, what's missing, and how that relates to the operability of the firearm. Sometimes that can be super important, especially when you have cases where something has happened where they're saying, "I didn't pull the trigger or uh the firearm was uh dropped and went off or it did something unexpected and it has resulted now that it's come to me in the lab. The vast majority of the guns that we're working on here in Mesa are your pistols, specifically your modern polymer frame, semi-automatic, recoil operated firearms like uh your Glocks, Springfield, Smith and Wesson, Sig Sauer. Working with firearms, I know a ton about firearms. I know lots of different firearms and calibers and operability. I can definitely nerd out on that. [Music]
