Let the store manager explain in detail what happened. >> Hello. >> Hi, Don. >> How you doing? >> I'm good. >> So, this is your victim rights for sure. And then they know that whatever you take home is not free. They know they have to purchase whatever. >> So she was caught also this is the everything that she's she took and just put it in a bag and left with it also. >> Okay, sounds good. So just right there the So first uh that's you can use that pen or whatever pen you want. Just state your name right there. It was reported that the female suspect had no knowledge of the police's involvement in the case. So, the manager prepared a plan to call her in and catch her by surprise. >> What time is she supposed to be here? >> At 11:00. >> But she's going to be at 11 cuz I got a I got a um she tried to call out because I think she freaking. So, I talked to in the comments. So, she told me if I can send her Uber, but she don't have any money. >> Um she put it down and then she put it on. >> All right. You you saw you got that right. >> Yeah. Just try to >> down. >> But the when when I was Well, I want to maybe do her next day, but I just want her taken by you guys cuz I don't want her I mean, she don't get out till 5. Wouldn't y'all be able to come back if I call back? >> You know for sure she's going to be here? >> Yeah, she's coming. But she was she was trying to call out cuz I think she kind But I was like, I got to go. I got to go to appointment and all that. feel back. Okay, then I'll come for you. She's >> It turned out that the employee was expected to return for her next shift. The moment she showed up was precisely when the police swooped in to catch her off guard. >> All I know time for me to go. I'm going to go through the box. How about yourself? >> They come back down too, man. >> What is this? >> You're being detained. He's going to talk to you. >> What's your name? >> Okay. You're going to need two two cups. >> Yes, please. >> I'm about to get you to get associated. >> All right. I'm going to come out this way. >> I'll just talk to you. >> Is this your phone? >> At this point, she was taken to a corner for questioning. Surprisingly, the presence of the police didn't seem to phase her. And she showed no sign of guilt upon hearing the charges against her. >> Yeah. >> Unless you really not have to hold you. >> I'm just going to read you your rights before you ask any question. >> Yeah. So, I'm just going to read you your rights. Just say yes or no. If you understand, I ask you a question. Okay. >> Okay. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Uh-huh. >> Anything you say may be used against you in court. Do you understand? >> Mhm. You have the right to talk to a lawyer before and during questioning. Do you understand? >> If you cannot afford a lawyer and want one, one would be better for you before questioning without charge. Do you understand? >> Okay. >> Has anyone threatened you or promised you anything to get you to talk to me? >> No. >> Okay. So, do you know why we're here today? >> Obviously not. >> Okay. So, there's footage of you taking some money from the register and putting it in your pocket. And then there's also a video of you taking items and not paying for them. So, do you know anything about that from yesterday? >> Taking money and putting in my pocket? >> Yeah. >> No, I didn't take any money and put it in my pocket. >> Okay. Well, there's video of you doing it. So, >> of taking money and put it in my pocket. >> Yeah. >> Yesterday around 4:56. I didn't leave home with any money with >> Well, the register was short, too. So, >> I didn't leave it with any money yesterday, though. >> Okay. And what about the stuff that you didn't pay for? >> What stuff? The stuff that I had. >> Yeah, that stuff. >> It was paid for. There's a whole receipt. >> Yeah, there's there's a receipt listing things that you didn't pay for. >> A whole receipt of what? >> Of stuff that you didn't pay for. Be turkey. >> Do you have anything on you that we need to know about? >> No. No, you didn't take anything today. >> No. >> Although she denied everything, the woman offered no proof of her innocence. In fact, she simply let events unfold, only continuing to complain. >> It's going to be petite theft. >> Petite theft. Since you have prior convictions, it's going to be a firing. >> What in the world stealing money yesterday from the store? I didn't even leave here with a dollar. How you doing, sir? >> How you doing? >> Oh, wow. >> Can I get my stuff? >> What stuff do you have? >> My bag. >> Where's your bag >> inside? >> What does it look like? >> They know what it look like. >> What? What does it look like? Cuz they don't at the jail. They don't want anything else. >> Except it has a bag. Well, don't um it >> don't worry about it. I'll just have my boyfriend pick it up. >> Yeah, because if not, you're going to have to pick it up from property and evidence, which is far as [ __ ] from here. >> Okay, don't worry about the deal. >> I need that key. >> I got to I got to stay here. So, >> yeah, I'll bring it with your property. Oh, you want me to leave it here with the with the bag? >> Yeah. And I need a um I need a way to get his number. So, cuz I don't know it by heart. >> Where is it in your phone? >> No, it's Well, my phone is at home, but I need the his job number. So, I need somebody to look it up. It's on her um >> Hooters. >> No. >> Hooters. Where? >> Kirkman. >> Kirk. Okay, we'll get that for you. I'll write it down for you. Okay. >> Please and thank you. >> Showing no hint of guilt, the woman ignored everything, treating the situation as if it were completely normal. >> I don't want it on cuz I'm going to get hot. >> Hold on. Policy. We have to make sure that you're safe. So, >> this arm got injured. Can you not put it so tight? Because I >> That's That's That's as tight as it's going to go. It's not going to go any tighter. >> So, if it's better if you turn around, face me, and then sit with your butt on the chair. >> Do what? >> So, look at me and sit back and keep scooting backwards. That's probably better for you. >> I'm too short for that. >> You want me to You want to pick up? >> Um, if it's possible, you can give them to Tara. >> Tara. >> Okay. um the girl with the red and burgundy dress and tell her to put them in my bag and I'm gonna have um >> Okay, >> my boyfriend come pick it up. >> Your boyfriend going to come up here about 12:30. What's his name? >> Eli. Oh, this is uncomfortable. This is ridiculous. Finally, the woman was charged with theft. No matter how casual or confident someone acts, theft caught on camera will always have consequences. Next, the manager still believed she was loved, even after embezzling from the company. >> Are you going to fire you? >> Oh, I already know what I'm think about it because everybody else loves me and wants to hire me. So >> on November 7th, 2023, police received a report from a pet boy auto parts store about a serious fraud. The manager had exploited her position to steal company property for over a year. Let's see from the store owner how much the total loss amounted to. >> $97,000 over the past year. Most of that was tires. $57,000. So, basically, she has a friend that owns a rental car company on Orange Avenue, and he brings his cars here. She writes a ticket, puts the tires on his cars, and then deletes the ticket. And she said he pays her $50 a piece for the tires. And they average $170 a piece is the one she's given him. >> What's this guy's name? the guy that she said he goes by CJ, >> but she said she thinks this is his real name cuz she also gave him an engine that's worth over $25,000. >> She wrote up this ticket, but he has the engine. He took it. This is not paid for it, but she believes this is his real name. Okay. >> So, yeah, like I said, I can give you copies of all this or give you originals and make copies for myself. But um in addition to all the tires, she also been uh defrauding us through lift. She's been ordering lift rides, charging them onto bogus work orders for herself, her kids. She's having lift go pick up her kids at Harmony High School in St. Cloud and drive them here after school and then she's getting rides for her boyfriend and for CJ. So lift rides was like $1,800 in fraudulent lift rides. The >> this is all over the course of last year. She exploited delivery rides to transport her children and friends and even carried out transactions without payment to please her acquaintances. >> A break job to the guy that where she loaded all the tires last week into the Mercedes. They also did a brake job on his car for $1,462 and that wasn't paid for in >> So what vehicle came here for that brake job? >> Uh it was a Mercedes. Um >> same one they're loading tires into or different. So that's the Well, that's the only one I saw cuz that was the most recent. >> Okay. >> So I saw her do that on it was Friday uh evening where they waited till the store she's the assistant manager. So as soon as the store manager went home for the day, she had that guy back the Mercedes up to the first row door and then she she helped roll the tires out and they stuck them in the back of the >> Did you get a tag for that car or does that show any of your camera? on it. It may be on a Let's see if it's on a ticket. >> Say it was Mercedes. >> Yeah. So, apparently assistant store manager over the course of the last year has been mainly stealing tires, having people, some guy named CJ, who has a rental company, >> but it was a temporary tag. So, there is no tag on it. But she said that the tires were not for him, but sometimes she said she uses this guy to do courier services to like deliver maybe merchandise to other pet boy stores. >> So basically she called him and said, "Hey, I need you to take these six tires to my friend." Which basically she stole them for another friend. And the guy with the Mercedes basically just delivered them. Inside the store, the suspect continued questioning with other officers. And despite being caught in all her actions, she showed no remorse and [music] kept bouncing her legs. >> Right here, we have all these special order tires. Basically, you weren't here. You know what that means more than I do. I barely know what that means. Um, but these, correct? This is your employee number 489154. Slow west, right? So, only you have access to that. These are the tires that you ordered and they're saying that they never made it to the shop. That those are the tires that they never shop. >> Okay. >> The order came from from there is up to everything else. >> Okay. >> So, would these be the tires that you would have given? What's the name of the individual that you're working with? >> Uh CJ. >> CJ. Um would these be the tires that are part of that? >> Yes. >> Okay. Gotcha. >> Okay. So really just doing this because >> one you need the extra cash and because as being a single mother you need the help in order to transport your children. How old are they? >> 15 years old. >> 14 15 17 can take himself but obviously not old enough. >> Well no one has his license in the back. >> Oh working on the car here. >> Okay. Regarding the man she had previously helped, she seemed to have no intention of hiding anything about him. >> Doing the best he can for the lifts. Um, or tires. How How have you been getting him the tires? >> Um, usually he comes pick him up or he drops off the car. >> He I'm sorry. Drops off the car and you just put the new tires on the car. Do you personally do that or you make like a work order and one of the workers do that? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um he's going through hard times as well, but he had every opportunity to pay it this like a week now. >> No, honestly, he's actually been working um he's been doing lipstick, not lipstar for security for us. >> Okay. >> Oh, so he's also a Pep Boys employee. >> No, we hire people outside. >> Oh, okay. I guess you got anything? >> Yeah, sorry. I just missed the the engine part they were talking about. >> So yeah. So the engine was here. Was that you ordered that? You ordered that for his car or that was just you guys happen to have the part? >> Okay. But he >> he is being impatient. >> Okay. So he just came and picked it up and threw it in his car and had somebody else put it in or you guys serviced it and put it in? >> No, he has it somewhere else. I'm not sure he knows. >> Okay. So you could reach somebody from like the back or was it >> The police also asked her if she knew what fate the store had decided for her and she seemed to still think of herself as a good person despite the incident. >> Had they talked to you about what's going to happen? Like are you they going to fire you? You know >> Oh, I already know what I'm talking about because [clears throat] everybody else loves me and wants to hire me. So he he's very personal like this. >> What else do you have to say? >> Um Huh? >> What did he have to say about him? >> He said he's disappointed and he goes, "Why didn't you come to me?" And I'm like, "He come to me." >> Yeah. >> I'm right now. I'm supposed to be a PTO. >> Yeah. >> Has this happened on any other stores? >> No. >> I don't know. >> You don't know? >> No. You guys said that. >> Am I walking with you? Do you have any other items here? >> Do you want to give us those who don't know? >> In the end, the woman was charged with grand theft and scheme to defraud. Abusing trust and exploiting one's position can lead to devastating consequences. No matter how justified one feels, dishonesty harms everyone and eventually catches up. Next, this man recklessly committed wrongdoing just 3 weeks into his job. >> Came through stolen deposit in the amount of $1,600. They wanted y'all to pick him up and arrest him. >> So, let's be straight with each other. >> Did you take that money? >> Yes, I did. >> Okay. >> On August 22nd, 2025, police received a call from a store reporting that one of their newly hired managers had stolen a bank deposit after just 3 weeks on the job. Officers arrived at the scene and another manager also gave her statement. >> Hi. Offices. >> Um, so my boss had me call y'all. Chambers stole a deposit in the amount of $1,600. They wanted y'all to pick him up and arrest him. >> Is that proof that he stole it? >> We have proof on camera that he stuck the deposit in his pocket on Sunday. I have saw it. My boss saw it and lost prevention have saw it. >> He's about to run. I can tell you that. >> What's his name? What's his name? You know your call because of him? >> Yeah. >> 1643. Get some change. >> Do you know his birthday or anything? >> Uh, I have to look it up. Hey, the police is here. Um, can we email this video to them? Cuz they want to see what he put in their in his pocket or something. But I'm going to let them see it. But everyone want to eat me. >> Yeah, we're going to have to the secretary's office, I guess. >> The male suspect was reportedly working privately with his boss inside the store and was unaware of the police presence. The police had a safety plan in place to apprehend him. >> Our captain's on the way. Uh, I don't want to go to the back and him run out the front and he's not fully certified yet, so I don't want something to happen to you just in case. Not the biggest guy I've ever had to tack on. >> Is that's not the point. It's more so >> liability. >> Yeah. I don't want you to have to. >> I don't want you to have this confus. >> Uh have y'all spoke with him? What has he said? >> I spoke with him on I just told him coming back in. He said he took it. Um >> Oh, he admitted to taking it. >> He told my boss no, but we saw it. He called me outside. He said he took it. If they'll give him an option to pay it back on Tuesday, he will. They don't want to give him an option. They wanted him arrested. So, >> according to the woman's statement, the suspect fully admitted to all his actions, even revealing his plans to her and disclosing his criminal history. >> What makes you think he's going to run? >> Oh, he told me he's been running. He said he wasn't going to stay here and go to jail. He's been in prison before. >> You know what he's been prison for? >> Drugs. >> Drugs. How was I? >> My god. >> He admitted it to you this morning. >> Yes, he just admitted it about 10 minutes ago. >> What did you say? >> He said that he Good morning. He said >> this is the captain. >> Hey, Captain. >> How are you? >> I'll be better if I have to deal with y'all. >> He admitted it to her. He told her that he was >> He said he took you. >> Where is he at? >> He's in the spoke with him yet. Um, what's his name? >> Ambers. He's been to prison before. >> Okay. >> For drugs. >> Okay. Um, did he admit it to you? >> He just told me standing out here that he took it. He said he's not going to tell my boss cuz he don't want to lose his job. They saw on the camera at 8:44 on Sunday morning. He wrote the bag up and put the bag in his pocket. He left here at a little bit before 3:00. He told us that he took the deposit to the bank. But another one of my employees picked him up. She dropped him off at the airport. a motel or something here. >> Okay. So, he said he took it. He said he couldn't help himself. He got back on cocaine. >> He offered to pay it back. >> He said he'll pay it back on Tuesday, but they don't want to. >> There's nothing I can do. >> Yeah, we can't do that. Have you seen the video of >> uh No, I didn't want to leave up here. >> You wanted my boss number? >> Um, >> what's his name again? At this point, the police approached the suspect while he was visibly panicked. >> Hey, Mr. Chambers. Yes, sir. >> Um, we'd like to speak with you. Okay. You know what in reference to? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Did you take $1,600? >> No. >> Why did you tell the other manager that you did, sir? >> Oh, you got >> There's a video. >> No, sir. >> Okay, you don't mind. I'll pass you down real quick. You ain't got a box cutter or nothing. Now, let me patch you down. Rodri, it's on video. So, be straight with me, dude. I know you done been to I know I know all that. >> And and we we want this to go smoothly. We ain't want >> We ain't want anything more than to handle our business. Okay, dude. >> Yes, sir. I' I've been doing this a long time and I I understand that people get in positions. Okay. Yes, sir. >> And and I understand that you may have a cocaine, bro. [snorts] >> Okay. Is that true, Roger? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So So let's be straight with each other. Did you take that money? >> Yes, I did. >> Okay. >> The admission was made without any sign of remorse. And shortly afterward, he was handcuffed just as the store had requested. That's a big old man. Be sure be sure you double lock them cuffs so they don't shut down on project where you stay in that little one. Mom, you can call her. Who's your mama? 64850. Put him in the car. There you go. This man was charged with grand theft. Being new on the job does not exempt anyone from responsibility. Lacking integrity from the start can lead to serious consequences. Next, this woman risked her entire future just to get by. >> I have been stealing from the Dollar Tree. >> What exactly have you been stealing? >> I don't want to go to jail and I'm not that kind of person. On May 7th, 2025, police responded to a report about a woman, Britney Zelinka, who worked as an assistant manager at a Dollar Tree store and had been shoplifting at her own workplace. Here's what happened next when they arrived at the scene. >> So, what's going on? This female from the store, she was cash and return to the system. >> Okay. >> She was interviewed by false arrangement on the phone. She had medical. Okay. She's in the office right now. >> Is the dollar the dollar the pressure? >> Oh, really? >> And I think the best thing for her is to go outside of the box, go through the system, and say what she has to say until she can get the help. She's in the office right now. just cut the water back and it turned out really good. >> Hello. Hello. >> I'm deputy with the sheriff's office. What's your name? >> Britney. >> Britney. >> The suspect appeared with a deeply remorseful expression. And at that moment, she began to admit her actions, revealing that she had been stealing not only merchandise. >> I've been stealing from the Dollar Tree. >> Okay. What exactly have you been stealing? >> Merchandise and >> merchandise and money. Okay. have to read this to you because you know I have to cuz I'm going to ask you some specific questions. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you >> Yes, I am. >> Mr. You advise you stealing money and merchandise. Has has this been an overtime process? >> I said the last two months. >> So for the past two weeks you've been >> two months. >> Two months. I'm sorry I'm I'm hard of hearing with this radio. Um, so for the past two months, you've been taking money in merchandise. How would you go about taking the money away? >> Um, posts. >> Post voids. >> Post voids. Okay. Can you explain post voids to me? I'm not entirely sure what that is. >> Where someone would check out and get all their stuff and then they would pay for it and I would just go back and void it. >> So, you would void the transaction and take the cash amount that they gave to the register and take that money for yourself. She only appeared remorseful because she was caught. As in reality, she had no idea of the total value of what she had taken while committing her wrongdoing. >> How much do you think you've taken as much valuewise? >> $1,500 worth of merchandise >> just in merchandise. >> Maybe 700. $700 in merchandise. That's just a rough estimate. You don't give me approximate. And you think you've taken $1,500 in cash or you've known you've taken $1,500 in cash. >> Um I think I've taken like I don't know how much in cash. >> If you had to rough guess, what do you think? >> Like 600. >> So 600 in cash, about $700 in merchandise. About $1,300 stolen. So the question arises, what was the reason behind her actions? >> What's the reason behind it? >> Um, I was staying at this hotel and they were getting pushy with needing stuff >> and I felt like I had to. >> What do you mean needing stuff? >> Like they need cleaning stuff. The people next to us always needed food and I didn't know what to do. They were just very aggressive people. >> Was it the the hotel staff or the people that were living with you in the hotel? >> It was the hotel staff and the people in the room next to us. >> You say us. It was someone else that was living with you at the time. Who was living with you at the time? >> My husband. Michael. >> Your husband. Are you still married to Michael? >> Yes. Okay. >> Okay. So, the stuff stealing stems upon the demand of the hotel staff wanting to >> Yes. And we left the hotel and I'm willing to pay everything back. >> Yeah. >> Cuz I don't want to go to jail and I'm not that kind of person. We can understand that everyone faces difficulties in life. But due to her actions, the store manager made a decision on behalf of the store. Just want to confirm confirming again. You want to press charges against her? >> Okay. >> Mr. Williams, can you explain why I'm here today? here because uh the associate written uh assistant manager uh did some post boys fraud post boys and returns plus take merchandise from the store and it came out to an amount of 1,500 uh that we can see and she admitted to >> um I know that is more but we can't do nothing about that. >> Okay. Um and now explain postvoids to me. >> Post voids is a system that we have through a registered data if the customer do not want it or the customer says I need to go to the car and get the money. Mhm. >> It stays there. They can cancel the transaction and the merchandise will stay in the building. >> Okay. >> And the viewing that we had done, we can see that the post boys are being done with the customer leaving with the merchandise. >> Okay. So, a customer's paying >> paying >> even though it's paying gets voided and then somehow the cash disappears. >> That's correct. Okay. So, and Britney was an assistant manager here and she was committed in these post voids. Besides her admittance, is there any identification number, employee number that links her to these posts? >> Only her ID number. >> Her ID number, which is associated with dollar store that is given to her when she gets hired. >> That's correct. >> Okay. >> All right. Um, when did you first started noticing that? >> I got a phone call from Ranger to investigate it Sunday. >> Shortly after, she was escorted to the patrol car for arrest and a phone call to a family member was allowed. >> What's his name? >> Michael. >> Michael. Okay. Hey, is this Michael? Hey, this is Deputy Sheriff's Office. >> Hey, so here's what's going on with wife. She is going to jail um because she is being arrested for two felonies, which is one scheme of the fraud and grand theft due to the fact that over a systematic period of time over the course of a month, she has accumulated over $1,000 worth of money and merchandise. So, and the Dollar Tree rest, so she is going to jail today. Um I'll get you there in a second. I just want to explain everything to you. Um, she'll see a judge at 9:00 a.m. in the morning and she'll have a fresh appearance and it'll set up from there. Okay. Right here. I'll let you stop for a second. >> Hello. >> Yes. >> Okay. Get in and out of this. You're going to be in here for 24 hours. >> Finally, the woman was charged with grand theft and felony organized scheme to defraud. Even personal hardships do not justify theft, and such behavior carries serious consequences enforced by management and law enforcement. Next up, the assistant manager supervisor also brought her to tears of remorse. >> Like, I'm a good a good woman. I I really fell in some bad times that I made the worst [ __ ] decision of my life. >> On October 3rd in Florida, police arrived at the scene after receiving a report from Dollar General about a theft of up to $5,000. The suspect was believed to be the assistant manager who had been secretly stealing money over several months. Here's what happened next. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Where is she at? >> She's in the office. She has to tell you you're coming. I stepped out to call you guys. She's already admitted to it's um 4,900. It's right sitting under $5,000 worth of >> money. She's admitted to it. We already have a statement. >> Do you already have her statement? >> We already have a wet statement and the reimbursement form and everything. We get all that before we call you guys. >> Okay. So, um have y'all have y'all reported the the money missing in the past? >> No, we did. That's what we're doing today. We came to investigate it. We found it today. She committed to it. So, that's what that's policy to call you guys today. And y'all do y'all are missing that much money? >> Yes, she's already confirmed it. We have it. She took >> She she confirmed it. >> Yes, she has. >> What I'm asking is does someone confirm the deposit? >> My loss prevention is an issue officer. >> Okay. That's why the >> That's why I was making sure. I was like >> I'm the district manager, so we that's what we're doing today. We get all the investigation, do all the hard work before you guys get here. >> Okay. >> So, she's already wrapped up in a bug. >> Okay. Let me go ahead and uh call my sergeant real quick and then I'll just uh I'll I'll meet you back. Oh, >> well, it's in the front. I was just >> Shortly afterward, the police also approached the suspect. >> Hello. Hey, Miss Whitney. >> Hey, how are you? >> I'm fine. Deputy May with the sheriff's office. >> Um, so I'm I'm here cuz of Well, obviously I'm pretty sure you know why I'm here. Okay. So, um, do you need to talk to her anymore? Are you all done? I can talk to her now. And >> Okay. All right. >> Well, I'm going to read you a couple things. I'm going to read you something real quick, okay? >> All right. Cuz right now, I'm starting my investigation, okay? Based off of what they've told me and what you've told them and stuff like that. I don't want to start asking you a bunch of questions >> and you not know your rights, okay? So, um, so Miss Whitney, you have the right to remain silent. Okay. Knowing your rights, do you want to talk to me, too? >> Assume so. >> I'm sorry, I can't hear you. >> I would assume so. >> You So, is that a yes? >> Yes. >> Okay. Here, I'm going to what I'm going to do. Can you Can you spin the chair that way? I can see your face. I'm sorry. >> Although she had admitted to the crime, the woman lacked the courage to face the consequences. When asked to turn and face the police, tears began to fall. >> All right, Miss Whitney. Um, so tell me what's going on. Why? Why am I Why am I here? You >> made a bad choice. Okay. What What choice was that? And instead of looking for help, I tried to go through the store. >> You tried to get your own help. Is that what you were saying? Like with So tell me how you did that. Tell me what happened. >> Um, pretty much I had a situation. I had a bill that had to be paid. So I took too much money. >> Okay. I've been trying to pay it back a little bit by a little bit, but I didn't know >> what you mind. What? I asked what bill? >> Um, I had some medical bills. >> Medical bills and stuff. >> Yes. And just everything on top of house bills that I had really fell on some hard times and I didn't know what else. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Under personal financial pressure, the woman sacrificed her highranking position. Shortly after, she was also questioned about how many times she had carried out the theft >> that you can remember. >> It's been a minute. I think that's why it's been taking so long. >> Okay. >> Have you taken it over time or just like one like >> like one one deposit or like how did that work? >> It was it was like [clears throat] probably like once or twice. So now here I am trying to put the deposits back like they know. >> Mhm. >> And [clears throat] >> so let me ask you this. How how much did you take in total that you remember that? >> Um he's saying there's 496850. >> Does that sound about correct as far as like how much you took? >> I mean it would have to be. >> Yeah. Cuz you took you took that much. >> Okay. Was it like you said once or twice? Um, >> I mean, for me to just have two, you know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. Two deposit. Yeah, I know. Sometimes the store makes you you drop it after so much. Yeah, I I get that. I used to run Subway a long time ago, so I know how the deposits and stuff work like daily or or hourly or whatever. Um, okay. So, you say when was the first time you took it? Just give me an estimate if if you can't remember a specific day. I mean, just >> I'm just I probably wouldn't really, but I started getting sick a couple of months ago. So, >> the woman affirmed that she had tried to return the money, but could not recall how many times she had done so. In addition, she was asked how exactly she carried out her actions. >> How did you do it, if you don't mind my asking, how did you take the money as far as >> I mean, I just took it out the store. >> Okay. Are are you like a keyh holder or something like that where you have access to the deposit? >> Yes, sir. So, you took So, you took the money, you took it out of the store. Um, and then obviously you took it with you or whatever. Okay. >> But pretty much all I've been doing now is just trying to balance the deposits out until I got the money back paid. You know what I'm saying? >> Okay. >> And apparently, you know, it caught up. >> So, they c So, they caught it and they >> Okay. All righty. Um Okay. Have you ever done anything like this before? Not I was way like I'm a good >> a good woman. I I really fell in some bad times and I made the worst decision of my life and if I would have known I'd be where I was I swear to God I would have done that [ __ ] like I have kids and stuff. >> Okay. Do you have your ID on you anywhere or? >> No, sir. Everything is >> I'll just go ahead and get your name and date of birth and stuff like that real quick. >> The woman appeared remorseful, viewing the stolen money merely as an advance she intended to repay. She continued to use this reasoning to insist that she was not a bad person. >> All right. >> Like I was still in the process of of of paying it back. You know, it's nothing I would have done. >> Okay. And I heard that you might have you you might still have some of the money or is that or is that just your money that you're trying to pay back? >> No, I um I still have a little bit of the money. >> You still have a little Where is that at? Over at the house. >> Um actually, yes, it is. >> It is at the house or it's not here with you anywhere like in your car or whatever? >> Not here. Uh at the house in the bag or it could be in my van. I have to >> in your van. Is your van here? >> It is. Okay. Would you give me consent to look for it? That way I can find it. Uh >> um yeah. >> Okay. All right. We'll we'll do that here in a moment. It's too hot for me to go outside and sit there and come back for this that whatever. Okay. So, we'll get this done here first and then um you have your keys on you. Is that your purse or is that someone? >> So, that's just my keys are actually on. >> At this point, the police allowed her to make a call to her family. Overwhelmed with emotion, the officers had to work to keep the situation under control. >> Mom, I don't know. I don't even know if I'll get a bond. >> I I don't think so. Not today anyway because of the amount. Um, but you can Don't quote me on that cuz I'm not a booking specialist. the booking specialists up there, they whatever you're getting charged with as far as the statute goes, they have a a a worksheet that tells them if it's a first appearance or if it's going to be But I believe it's a first appearance uh charge. >> I have to go to court first. >> Well, it's not court. It's you see a judge in the morning and then he gives you a bond. >> Okay. >> Um so more than more than likely I'm going to have to sit tonight until in the morning. like 4,000 and something. Mama, please. I'm already stressed out. >> I'm so sorry. Mom, >> did you let her know to go watch your kids and all that? >> Just please go and the kids. My purse is at the house. That card, that EBT card is in there. Um, just go ahead like Reggie going to have to know they going to get ready to take me. >> The woman was charged with felony grand theft. Her attempts to justify the theft as a temporary advance show how people can rationalize wrongdoing. Even trusted positions come with responsibility and deception has serious consequences. Worse, the manager believed she was not responsible for the money she had taken. >> I I walked out, we look taking my vehicle. I'm like, I don't have nothing. I COME TO MOUTH. I AIN'T GOT NO I DON'T TAKE NOTHING. I don't you know >> I'm not perfect. I've done stupid [ __ ] in the past. >> We do all do perfect. So we all do mistakes. >> On August 21st, 2024, police were dispatched to Dollar Tree after receiving a report that one of their managers had stolen bank deposits. See what unfolded. So, um I get an email like we verify when we're in our stores our deposits, but usually our treasury department finds like a missing deposit before us. Like within a week they'll flag on an email telling us that it hasn't been validated through the bank. So, I started to receive emails. Um quickly it was like two, then it became three, it was four. Um right now I have six um and it's going to be six in total. this store manager, she had just started here on July 29th. It was her first day in the store. So like she trained with us for 5 weeks at another location. Um and came here by 8:4 I'm missing my first deposit. So So July 29th she started at this location. >> Yeah. And then um you said she trained for 5 weeks at another location. >> Yeah. Um but like in the capacity of manager. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So she was >> But was she with the company before? >> No. >> Okay. So she got hired in brought in as a manager and then she was training. >> Yeah. So she finished. >> So this was like the first time being solo. >> Yes. Alone. Unattended. Right. >> The suspect committed the act just after completing 5 weeks of training. According to the statement when the bank deposits went missing. She even pretended to help locate the money. there was just very calm. And so I took him to the bank. Like I signed them out. I took them all to the bank. They're all going to be at the bank. And you know, even after he left, I continued to talk to her a little bit oneonone. Like maybe you changed purses or bags that you brought to work. Don't you want to go check your car? Double check. Like if you were taking multiples at a time, what could slide out at a red light? Double check. And she's like, I know they're not in there. Like I took them to the bank. and she's just very confident but not really doesn't care to help or look or you know do anything for it as far as that. And even like the day before because I was um across town I sent the man the store manager that trained her. She's right up the road. So I sent her on Tuesday to meet with the store manager and go over the deposits and I had her staff at the bank see if there was anything going on and she was very, you know, casual with her, really not too worried about it. Um, the biggest red flag for me right away was that store manager stressed to her like, "Okay, you're coming in tomorrow. You're scheduled at 12, meaning Wednesday. Um, make sure you go to the bank before you go to your store cuz you need to resolve where your missing deposits are. They should be validated by the bank right away the next day. You need to talk to a bank manager and not a teller. Um, find out what's going on." So, she didn't know we were going to be in her store on Wednesday, but like she came walking in with a bag of McDonald's food, didn't care. I asked her, "Hi, did you go to the bank before you came here?" >> And that was on Tuesday. >> Um, no, on Wednesday, like when I was physically in the store with her, >> but she was supposed to go there on Tuesday to >> She was supposed to go Wednesday, like before she came in, cuz she came in at 12:00 on Wednesday. >> As the store manager, she showed no concern when the money went missing. When the police approached her, let's see her attitude. >> Yes. So, she was talking about I guess it was six different deposits. Uh, what happened with those? Do you do you know which ones they are? >> Um, >> no. I guess like August 3rd, 4th, two on the 4th, one on the 5th, 7th, and 10th. Do you know what happened? Did you deposit the the one she was talking about? >> Like I like I told her, I say whatever deposit they leave in the safe. I think cuz apparently >> the one manager. Okay. Cuz >> to me, I'm not used to pick taking deposits and take to the bank. So, this is my first time ever doing something like that. >> And then when I go to the bank, the teller say I have to drop it in a dropbox. Even though they're there, but I have to drop it in the dropbox. >> Okay. So, and there's no care or nothing. So, basically just pull and drop everything in there. So, the days that I'm so from between from the weekends for Friday, [clears throat] Friday I leave from Saturday. So, they're deposits there from the I guess from the mid managers the night and then Sundays I'm off. So, by the time I come Monday, it'll be multiple deposits in the safe. Okay. >> Which I heard the night manager supposed to drop. She doesn't go drop it. So, basically, I have to take them and go drop them in the night deposit, which I truly do. Like I told Crystal, I said, "Well, I don't know. You know, y'all giving me a store one. Every I most everybody don't speak English. Nobody's dropping nothing. I come my first day, there was already five bags in the safe." >> She admitted handling the money, yet she showed no real worry, believing she would not be held responsible. >> So, and then yet we have to sign. Majority of them don't sign. So, basically, I'm signing cuz I'm taking everything. Like I said, I take everything I off in the in the night deposit. I don't know nothing else. This is my first time, okay? you know, that's what we're yall see me, you know, if y'all see me in the camera, >> okay? Like I told her, check the bank cameras. Like, I don't know. >> This is my first time. So, I don't know what was the deal. What's going on? What's missing? >> But, you know, like I told her, you need to search my car. You could search, you know, I don't, you know, >> you you came running. You said, "How can I help?" >> I'm a new person. You know, I just started this is I never had this issue. Never had this problem. I worked for City Trans for 5 years. Like, I never had issue. I've been work as a store manager. I never dealt with nothing with money. I don't steal money. Why would I take your money? I go to the store now. Y taking deposit. Y s they're sitting there is a issue. So basically I have to sign a a log which I don't know from previous people whoever whatever issue they had previous from the other managers. All I told her I just take put everything together and drop anything and that's it. >> You know I don't I don't know anything else. So they basically let me go because of my me cuz of my name of the log. That's pretty much it. That's what she told me. They just going to go ahead and let me go for it. >> What terminated? They did. Yeah. when she they gave me a suspension and then she finally said they made a decision to let me go cuz I had written broken on the law. >> Even though the police knew everything, their goal was to get her to fully admit her actions. Yet, it seemed hopeless. Even when they questioned her directly, >> right? So, at no point did you take it for like your own personal gain? Nothing like that, right? >> No. >> Okay. >> If I [laughter] mean, you take my back. I don't have any criminal history of me doing anything. I mean, well, parking speed, speeding tickets, that's I mean, that's everybody, you know, that's everybody. But when it comes to theft, what that's not me. I don't Yeah, that's why this right here was very shocking to me. >> To me, [snorts] I'm like, I don't take anything. I don't, you know, and then because I was training at the other store, they even I even took deposits there and drop at the store when I was at training and nothing was missing. So, to me, this is Yeah. >> So, what do you think happened there? >> I have I don't know. I have no clue. I don't know. For one manager, she was telling me, you know, it's just like letting me know just be careful in this store. That's pretty much it. Like, man, I don't know why the store managers didn't laugh in that store. I don't know. I I'm just new to Dollar Tree and I never had issues like this. Never had problem like this with money. >> So, the before we go talk to anybody, of course, we look up, are we dealing with a good guy or a bad guy? Of course, we looked up your history. You're you're a good guy. You came running to come in here to say, "Hey, I'm coming to talk to you guys. My day's busy, but I want to >> You can leave at any time, but you're making a a statement trying to help us figure this for a better word crazy situation. >> I mean, the same thing I sat down with with Crystal, you know, with loss prevention. I was in there with, you know, >> and Crystal had nothing but good to say about you. But she said, "We can't figure this out either." >> I can't listen. Like I told her, I said, "I don't know." I told her she could search my vehicle. She like, "Look, did they bag fell under the car?" I I walked out. We looked we checking my vehicle. I'm like, "I DON'T HAVE NOTHING. I [laughter] COME OUT. I AIN'T GOT I DON'T TAKE NOTHING. I don't you know." And who who do you primarily bank with? >> Me? I bank with Wells Fargo >> and [clears throat] then we have Bank of America with my husband. >> Immediately after, police accounted for the store's missing money. Upon learning the total, she seemed to fall into a stunned silence. >> What they don't have and when you add those up, it comes to that amount. >> 65 $5,700. Did you get behind on bills? Did you have to pay some home bills for it? You have kids? >> Where did the money go? Maybe you can get on a payment plan with them. >> No, I don't have any [ __ ] I'm still behind on rent pretty. I mean, >> rent is not cheap in the world today. >> No, it's not. No, I need to check my time. I didn't buy none of this in my town. >> Yeah, of course. So, they're patting the numbers a little bit. They're a mess to begin with. So maybe it's like 3,000. Maybe that's the payment plan we need to get on. >> Not even. >> So just why don't you just take us back to the beginning of how how did this even happen? When you take the deposits out of the safe, where did you end up going with the parents? >> The bank. >> You went to the bank or you took them to your bank? >> No. No, I don't think No, not to my bank. No. Did you take the money out and throw the bags in or what happened? >> At this point, police posed the question directly. With her arrogant attitude, she seemed to admit it, but only reluctantly under police pressure. >> What' you end up doing with the the money that I took? >> We're just trying to make make sense of it at this point, you know? >> Cuz at the end of the day, I'm not a bad person. >> No. And like I told you, you're criminal. There's nothing. >> I don't. >> You're clean. >> Yes. Um, >> everybody makes mistakes. We've all been there. >> Yeah, we do. >> I'm not perfect. >> I've done stupid [ __ ] in the past. >> We do all do perfect. So, we all do do mistakes. So, what is Crystal willing to do? >> We'll have to talk to her. I have to give her a call and um try to discuss it with her. Um, but right now, [clears throat] I just need >> But I'm not But the thing But yeah, for all that, I'm not taking responsible for all that. That's Yeah, I'm not that crazy of >> No. And and like I said, I'm not saying if you think it's a different route, that's fine. We can discuss that. But right now, we just need to know what actually happened. So, you take the bags. Did Did you end up depositing them? Did you end up paying your apartment or did you pay for any of your kids stuff? >> Um I get behind on my bills all the time working here. I have to figure out ways to handle it, you know. >> I was behind one time on my rent. That's pretty much it. And this [clears throat] was one of those like, hey, this might help me out just to make it through, right? >> That's pretty much it. >> Which what your husband do for a living? >> He doesn't escaping. >> He has no idea what happened. Okay. >> No. >> Finally, the woman was charged with grand theft and felony organized scheme to defraud. Even in a position of trust, arrogance, and denial can worsen the consequences. Next, this reckless mother went even further, recklessly risking her entire family's lives for the stolen items. >> Roll down your window, man. >> Roll down the window. >> Vehicle took off. >> Face away from me. >> Just kids in the car. >> How many kids are in the car? On March 3rd, 2025, police received an urgent call from Walgreens reporting a theft and a getaway in progress. Initial checks revealed that a woman accompanied by her two children had fled in a gray Chevy Malibu. When officers approached, they cautiously asked her to roll down the window, but things quickly turned [music] far more complicated than expected. Roll down your window, mold the window. Vehicle took off. >> All right. Traffic still light about 100 miles an hour. We're safely driving. Come on. Drive. Just drive. Just drive. A fast and furious style chase unfolded on the road with the woman's driving completely reckless, violating traffic laws, swerving dangerously past trucks, and worse, what the police had feared actually happened. >> We are a little bit of traffic. Crash, crash, crash, crash, crash, crash, crash, crash. >> Big crash, big crash. GET OUT THE VEHICLE. [screaming] HANDS UP. >> Sheriff to block the 308 westbound at 76 Street. >> I got you. ROLL DOWN YOUR WINDOW. PUT YOUR HANDS UP NOW. >> GO behind my squat. Yep. Go behind my squat. >> KEEP YOUR HANDS UP. >> GET OFF THE VEHICLE WITH YOUR HANDS UP. >> HANDS UP NOW. PUT YOUR HANDS UP NOW. HANDS UP. HANDS UP. PUT YOUR HANDS UP. >> GET OUT OF [screaming] THE CAR. HANDS UP. HANDS UP. >> TURN AROUND. Face away from us. >> Face away. >> She's talking to somebody in the vehicle. >> Start coming back to the sound of my voice. YOUR HANDS UP. HANDS UP. Keep your HANDS UP. DON'T PUT THEM DOWN AGAIN. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR. >> START WALKING BACK TO THE SOUND OF MY VOICE. NOW WALK BACK. >> WALK BACK to the sound OF MY VOICE. KEEP WALKING. DON'T PUT YOUR HANDS DOWN. Keep walking back. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. >> Keep coming. Stop. >> Come back. Further to the sound of my voice. Hands up. Hands up. Hands up. Face away from me. >> Just kids in the car. >> How many kids are in the car? >> Come over here, buddy. Come over here. Come over here. >> Fortunately, all the other passengers and the mother herself were safe. Yet, it was utterly blameworthy to risk lives over stolen items. At this point, the mother even continued to act in ways that endangered herself. [music] >> [music] >> Immediately after, police recovered the Walgreens items. According to [music] reports, the woman had scanned all the merchandise but never paid with a total value of just $23727. Yet, she was willing to risk her entire family's lives. At this point, officers worked with her to help find a guardian for her relatives. >> Okay. What's grandma's [music] name? Oh, but he's going to be >> Has he take any medications? Okay. Any allergies? >> Was he in a seat belt? >> Um, was he in a booster seat or anything? >> You want them transported to the hospital? >> Are they okay? >> They got a couple bumps, but nothing's jumping out. Obvious. Um, we'll let you know if we find anything. Okay. >> Yeah, you can transport. I don't >> where was he seated? Um in the back driver back driver side. Yeah. >> So they were both unrestrained it sounds like where they didn't have any seat belts on. No, they both had um the that middle seat belt on and the um so Destiny was in behind the passenger seat. She had her seat belt on. >> Okay. They're both They're both too small to be sitting in the back seat without a car seat. So that seat belt really didn't do anything to protect them. So they do have some bumps and bruises and some scratches. >> Okay. So it's up to you if you want them taken into the hospital. >> I say you >> you want them to go to hospital. Okay, sounds good. Now, we're going to take over the children. >> At the police station, officers allowed her to calm down before beginning the interrogation. There, she admitted to everything, including the theft and putting her family members in danger. >> So, you want to tell me what was going on? How did it start? What were you doing in uh Walgreens? >> I took some food and some baby from school. Okay. I know the amount of approximately of how much you took. >> Yeah, that's how I took it. >> Okay. Uh, and I'm guessing they didn't give you consent. You just took it away. >> No, I swiped my car. She said it was okay. >> Okay. So, when we pulled you over, did you know that you were pulled over? Did you see the lights and sirens? >> Yeah. >> I mean, you stopped. So, you stopped and you rolled down the window for a little bit. Um, and you started running away. What was the reason for running away? >> Cuz like I I really wasn't thinking like I was like thinking like I didn't want to go to jail. in my kids not having nobody in there. It's like me running away still did the same thing. >> So, did you recognize that you were putting your children in danger by running away? >> I wasn't thinking about like all the stuff that could have happened at that moment like it was like uh >> Okay. Were your children the seat belts? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Where were they located when you were driving away? In >> the back passenger and the back driver. >> Back passenger. Okay. They have car seats or no just here for a little bit. >> The woman Danielle Butler was charged with fleeing and eluding an officer, causing property damage, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of child neglect, misdemeanor retail theft, and bail jumping. Risking lives for a petty theft is never worth it. Danielle's choices not only endangered her children, but also herself, showing how momentary greed and poor judgment can lead to severe lifealtering consequences. >> You are needing you for something. On March 27th, 2024 in California, police suddenly spotted a vehicle matching the [music] description of a recent theft and immediately initiated a traffic stop. Here, what's happened next? >> How we doing? >> How are you? >> Good. Driver's license registration. Pro insurance. Also, ma'am, the reason why I pulled you over is you weren't wearing your seat belt. You put it on. Driver's license registration on you or you have your license on you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Can we see it, please? >> No. I'm sorry. I forgot >> I have my phone with me. I can give you my name. >> Your phone's on your hand. >> This is not my phone. This >> All right. Do me a favor. Unbuckle your seat belt. Go ahead and step out for me. >> What were you guys doing? Movement in the middle. You guys are doing further movements in the middle. Go ahead and unbuckle your seat belts. Go ahead and step out of the vehicle. >> Why do you No. Why are you asking me out? >> Cuz I'm stand telling you to step out. Come on. You're shaking. Get off the phone. Come on, step out. >> The woman behind the wheel appeared nervous, failed to provide documentation, and showed unusual trembling, heightening the officer's suspicions. >> I'm recording. >> Sorry. Come on. >> Show mine. >> And I do not want to be touched. >> Yeah, she she was messing the middle console. Both of them were. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> No, this Where's your ma'am? Where's your ID? >> I told you I left my phone. Oh, wait. I got it myself. >> I spilled soda on my >> No problem. No problem. >> That's uh Linquist, right? Lquis, >> you'll have to get his identification. >> You're from Naples? >> Yes. >> All right. Keep Let me Yes. So, listen. What it is, you weren't wearing seat belts. I'm going to warn I'm not going to sight you. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, um that's it. So, just relax and see. >> And I'm not No, I was I shake. That's the way I am. And you guys came to be honest you came at the car like aggressive and I don't understand why over a seat belt it was very very aggressive. >> So so that the reason why I pulled you over is you have no seat belt. Okay. Also this vehicle >> uh I got to check but um was probably more likely some type of retail theft. So we'll we'll talk about that a little bit later. Um you might not have Is this belong to you? >> Yeah, this is my car and it wasn't involved in a retail. >> Okay. Well, like I said, we'll talk about that later, but I pulled you over cuz you weren't wear seat belts, so I'll deal with that and then we'll go from there. Okay. >> The woman blamed the officers for acting aggressively and causing her panic, but when questioned about the car's ownership, she failed to provide any convincing evidence. >> Like, so like, >> were you here? You were here. You were here yesterday. >> No, I wasn't here yesterday. >> You weren't here yesterday. >> Your car was >> Your car was >> Oh, at Walmart? >> Yeah. Yeah. You know what that's about? >> Who Who was driving your car yesterday? I'm not sure. >> Okay. >> If I show you a picture, can you tell me who he is? >> Absolutely not. I'm not. No. >> No. Okay. >> I look, I'm not No offense, but I'm not a police officer. >> Okay. Okay. >> You know what I mean? >> And this is your car? >> Yeah, this is my car. >> So, it was used in a crime yesterday? >> No, my car was not used in a crime. That is for sure. >> What happened? >> I'll show you 100%. Hang on. Hang on. When questioned, she adamantly denied her car was linked to the Walmart theft. But officers held video evidence that was about to shatter every denial. >> That's your car, right? >> Y'all are harassing me. >> No, I'm not harassing you, man. >> What does that prove? >> Okay. What that proves is that that car, the picture of that car was taken by the manager at Walmart when an individual that was shoplifting got in it to leave. Someone that was shoplifting got in my car leaving Walmart. Absolutely not true. Do you have video from Walmart reading that? No. >> No. Because I was present in my car when this car left Walmart and there was no one that shoplifted in my car. >> No. >> Yeah. >> He was not in my car when he left. >> Okay. Well, >> I'm telling you he wasn't. Oh, if that's if that's the if that's what you're speaking to, >> our investigation shows different. >> Okay. >> Although confronted with clear images, the suspect stubbornly insisted it was only a misunderstanding. But by now, officers no longer believed her and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense. >> Why didn't they take a picture of the guy hitting in the random car? >> Where's that picture? Where's your video surveillance footage? I mean, obviously you got something to hide. So I mean I mean you know who the guy is. I mean it's >> I don't have anything. >> It it it's >> I told you I'm not a police officer. It's not my job to look at stuff like that and help you. I have a right to say no. You can ask. >> You have the right. But if you come to my county and you commit crimes here, this is going to happen every single time. >> I don't commit crimes >> and and we're going to know when you're here. >> I don't commit crimes. Well, obviously this vehicle, like I said, there's video surveillance footage of that individual going into Walmart. And like you said, it's not your job to help us identify the person, but obviously he used your vehicle or was in your vehicle. >> No, he did not use my vehicle. This is my car. >> 10:15. While checking the suspect's information and searching the vehicle, officers suddenly discovered she was carrying a dangerous item, forcing them to act immediately. >> All right, man. Put your hands behind your back. What am I being arrested for? I found something. >> She's reaching. She's reaching. Stop. Stop. Stop [ __ ] [ __ ] >> Stop. She's reaching for something. She's reaching. [screaming] OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. RIGHT THERE. GOT IT. GOT TO GET HER. [screaming] MA'AM. >> MA'AM. >> I don't know if she's got a gun OR SOMETHING. OH MY GOD. >> I GOT HER. You're hurt. Say pee, buddy. Yeah, pee my feet. Oh my god. >> The woman resisted violently, repeatedly reaching into her body as if to draw a weapon, forcing officers to use strong measures and uncover a hidden knife that made the situation even more dangerous. >> I didn't know. >> Why were you doing this? We're past that point. >> No, please stop. >> We're past that point. So, you're getting >> No, he's hurting me. >> Listen, stop. We don't know what you're reaching for. If it's a gun, A KNIFE. >> I'M NOT [screaming] MOVING. >> I'M ONLY MOVING because he's hurting me. >> I'm talking to you civily. >> [ __ ] insane. >> Listen, I'm talking to you civily. You talk to civil. >> Look at how I'm being treated. Civil. Look at my face. Does that look civil? >> STOP. STOP. >> YEAH. REAL [ __ ] CIVIL. >> OKAY. >> GOD DAMN IT. THE [ __ ] IS WRONG with you? The only act. We got one. >> Go ahead and search your >> I found a hard object. Did you find any hard object? >> No, she got a knife. >> A knife. Okay. >> Yeah, the knife. >> Would you come down? >> I figured you were reaching for something that was going to hurt us the way you were fighting. Cuz at that point, the gig's done. Everything's done. >> Why can't you just let me go for this? Look at my face. Please. >> Listen. >> Finally, the woman faced multiple charges. possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and resisting an officer. She was sentenced to 30 months of probation along with heavy fines and court costs. This case shows that resisting only makes things worse, and in the end, the price paid is always bitter under the law. Next, Walmart had better cameras than most banks, and [music] this case proved it all. >> A flower shirt, and she's got a basket full like $1,000 worth of stuff. >> Just let it go out. Now get over here. Bad day. >> What are you thinking about? >> That was >> On May 26th, 2024, police received a call from Walmart reporting an active shoplifting incident. The suspects were identified as a man and a woman who had removed price tags and concealed merchandise in bags. Upon arrival, officers monitored the situation through security cameras, patiently waiting for the right moment to move in. will be here. So, they were putting stuff into the bag and then also took some price tags off with some items that they have on. >> Pretty bad. >> These are always fun. They're always running. So, that's why I get here fast. >> This would be my first >> if they run. >> If they run. >> Yeah. I like to wait till like Well, they come separate cuz we got them separate. One runs other way, the other one runs other way. So if you have them together, you have like same general travel more or less, you know. >> Oh, there he is. >> Hot pockets. >> Oh, see they selected another vine there. >> Oh yeah, there's a lot closer. >> So they're Well, they're loaded up for sure. >> Yeah, probably level. 96 central watts if I wasn't in front of the UPS store. >> Oh, look. You're going to load up one in MSU stuff. >> Yeah, pricey. >> Those are so Those are so expensive. They're about $30 shirts. Yeah, they're Yeah, they're pretty pricey. >> Cool. >> The theft appeared to have been carefully planned. The pair split up, each positioning themselves in their desired sections, while the store's precise camera system allowed staff to track and document every wrongful move in real time. At least >> we're like more than 200 right now. >> Uh yeah, >> maybe. Right. >> Yeah. >> You guys are going to want to pursue, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I was They're like, "Why did you guys get here so fast?" So they're like, "I have to go." >> They always run. >> They just split up. So they're loading two carts. You know, >> it's that guy. >> That dude and then >> he's looking hard. >> That lady's going to go to liquor. So they're probably going to try and steal liquor. They loaded a bunch of >> Oh, what he's going to do? He's probably going to put liquor in that bag. >> There we go. Let me see. Oh, he's going to open the bag. There we go. >> Yeah. >> He going to run, bro. We got to do >> He's been waddling. He's going loud, dude. He's >> like 70s. She can run. >> That's her. Is she concealing stuff, too? >> Yeah. So, there's a backpack underneath there. Also, the glasses on her head are She took off the price tag. >> And he already took off the price tag to the backpack he just selected. >> Maybe he was just keeping him in his pockets for like easy care. >> One could only hope in the bag. I don't know. >> What is it? A bottle? >> Yeah. >> I mean, they know we have cameras. They were even able [snorts] to watch the television through the surveillance system, showcasing just how astonishing Walmart's security systems were. Something that clearly impressed the police. >> That's what we tell people. We're like, you know, Walmart has better cameras than most banks, right? >> Yeah, >> they're probably loading all that. >> So, that has a >> security >> that has a security thing on it. So, I wouldn't doubt it. They're just going to try and run. Hey, put in that bottle now. >> There we go. >> They're going They're going fast, too. Huh? Like, she's grabbing a lot of of She's going to go probably around. >> Oh, shit's adding up too fast. >> Huh? >> It should be like a 300 sound right there with all the meat she's like. Oh. Oh, yeah. She's sucking up on me. That's a good indicator right there. >> And they're just throwing stuff, so they're not even looking at price tag. So, that's like an other indicator. Yeah, they're not grabbing great value stuff like I do. >> Yeah, [laughter] I know, right? So, people that work hard for their money. >> Those are pretty good. >> Damn. Green chili is like six bucks. I don't know where to go. >> See, that's how you go. We all work. >> Where'd he go? Did you see him? >> He's too fast. He jked you out. There he is. >> More close. They've been getting um NMSU shirts and >> so I'm going to go full screen [snorts] for the scene. >> The surveillance continued as the suspects began showing signs of leaving, prompting officers to move into position and plan their intervention. >> That is a lot of cheese. For real. >> Do you guys take him to jail or just sight him? >> No, they take him to jail. No car. >> That's the entrance that we're at now. >> No, that's he's pushing to the other side. >> Go ahead. >> Boy, Henry, >> is he about to go out? >> Does he have a mask on now? Yep. He put his mask up. He's going to do it. He's going to push out now. So, he got his mask up. >> Go in this way. >> Okay. The gym side's over here. >> Yeah. So this not this entrance. >> It's not this one. No, this a grocery should be walking out pretty soon. >> Yeah, he's still looking at that same spot that he was at. He's putting the backpack on right now. >> Your adrenaline starts pumping just because you're like, "What the heck? Why are you doing this?" >> Got the backpack on with the mask on as well. >> The very moment the man confidently stepped outside the door was exactly what the police had been waiting for. What was striking was how familiar his action seemed, as if he was already accustomed to being arrested. >> Come here, man. >> You don't have to get on the ground. You don't have to get on the ground. >> Fine. Just relax. Do what we tell you. Okay. >> Just get up, bud. Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Thank >> Put your feet under you. There you go. I'll get your stuff. I'll get your glasses. So, I'll get him. Walk over there. >> We're going to take the backpack off. >> You understand why we're talking with you right now? >> You have an idea? >> Okay. >> We'll go over that in detail in just a moment. Okay, young man. >> All right. You guys trying to move him out of the way away from the GM side. So she >> Let's just do a quick search for weapons cuz there's a female that's with her. >> Oh, >> there's a female in there. >> She's pushing out right now. >> About to push out, bro. >> That same door. She's wearing like a a flower shirt and she's got a basket full like $1,000 worth of stuff. >> Just let her go out. >> The woman was even more brazen than the man. She pushed an entire cart full of goods straight outside. And just like the man, her immediate reaction suggested this was far from her first encounter with an arrest. Get over here. Bad day. >> What are you thinking about? >> That was the stupidest thing you've ever done. >> Do I have to get arrested or can I just I got a 16-year-old at home right now. >> That's too bad. She can go with CPS. [laughter] >> Can I just get a ticket and go home? >> No. >> We have a female detain, too. So, >> for 11:01. And you guys want to press charges? >> For sure. Press charges. Yes. All the way. Everything we can. Especially she tried to run. She knew she was wrong. Shame on that old lady. Dang. You too old to be doing that, lady. >> Uh, this is her personal property, right? We don't have any information that she might have something. >> I believe that is correct. There's alcohol in here, which is what he was suspected of taking. She pushed an entire cart of merchandise outside, valued at around $1,000, then quickly begged to be let off with just a citation and go home. She showed no shame at all, but it was already far too late for her and for the man as well. >> That old lady. Dang, you're too old to be doing that, lady. >> Uh, this is her personal property, right? We don't have any information that she might have something >> I believe that is correct. There's alcohol in here, which is what he was suspected of taking. >> Sorry. >> Well, I know you're sorry. It's too late for that. >> Doesn't really. >> Yes, >> I can go home. >> Nope. >> Listen, real quick. We're going to ask you questions. We're going to talk to you and all that good stuff, but you know, you have Miranda rights, right? You don't have to answer any of my questions or make any statements unless you have an attorney present. You understand that, right? >> Sure. >> Okay. And you can at any time enact those rights. You understand that, right? So, I'm not going to read it to you verbatim, but you understand. You're a grown ass man, right? >> Go ahead. >> Oh, that's nice. >> Like I said, you already remember you have rights, right? >> Are you a felon? >> You're not a felon. >> You're legally allowed to have firearms. >> It's inoperable. >> It's inoperable. >> Yeah. Don't worry. Finally, the woman was charged with shoplifting over $500, conspiracy to shoplift, and resisting arrest. Meanwhile, the man was charged with shoplifting, conspiracy to shoplift, and possession of a stolen firearm. Crime doesn't become acceptable just because it feels routine. Repeated offenses only prove intent, and cameras, evidence, and consequences will always catch up in the
