[Music] when I got appointed all you got was a badge and a call box key nothing you had to buy everything to buy your gun your bullets and the unifor starting pay was 160 a month and your uniform was $160 it was tailor made they were beautiful uniforms and there were the old Sam Brown they had that belt so a drunk could grab it and haul you around he got me sitting in front of a typewriter and that must have been a prop I can't that's you there that's you yeah you can't type this McNary here in the middle is a chief this is Paul Fontana he retired as a captain that guy he wouldn't take a promotional exam and uh he'd been on about oh I guess pretty close to 20 years and I just raped him over the coals and told him to take an exam and he did just bing bing bing he was top man in the first three sergeant lieutenant and Captain are you in there yeah that's me oh okay [Music] so you had them all unload their weapons to be inspected yeah the first inspection was a riot they never had any I guess for years Bachelor Bachelor okay he uh he retired and was chief of police at Tiger he organized their police department at tiger he was our first Chief okay that was before we had stripes on our pants oh yeah the Dave Johnson put stripe on our pants Dave Johnson did that okay when he was Chief oh yeah okay when I got on we had a grandma in our hats wire R there yeah and the and the hat stood up like that but every time you got in police car you knock your hat off every time you got off you knock your hat off and if you were if you were in uniform without your hat you got time off and that was under which Chief pardon was that under under um Johnson also or no no that was before the when the military ruled up to 1949 okay you know you're going to get a call about 3:00 this morning that's when I remember these names got to record and chief prey okay the state police at dthy M brought in to clean the town up they cleaned it up all right and the people were so unhappy they ran them out of town we had a heck of a time you know they were just getting Automobiles and our Police Department was was infiltrated with military people and so our uniform is military and like if you're caught with your hat off and your gun on your body you got some time off that's military stuff but they we couldn't get rid of the blouses until Eisenhower showed up with an Eisenhower jacket Jack then well if it's good enough for him it's good enough for for him please and I remember old Chief Jenkins then we had dad he was a nice Chief but he was a shaky like I am we call him old shaky anyway and the best and most comfortable holster was a cross draw fit right in here and then a car you never know you had a gun it just fit right there when you said out but the only thing was the handle was pointing at the drunk that you were trying to handle happy birthday to you thank you and I'm [Music] h
