Find out in today's video. Walmart shoplifters [music] didn't think cameras were watching them. We are This is Law. Don't forget to like and subscribe. Start with this woman who irrationally convinced herself of her own innocence. No, you just did. Listen, I've never been I was not Ma'am. Let me ask you. Have you ever been to jail before? On March 23rd, [snorts] 2024, police received a report from a Winn-Dixie store about a woman suspected of shoplifting. When approached, the woman denied everything, but her actions afterward brought a shocking twist. Hi there. How you doing? Um let me see your receipt. You got that, honey? H261909. Can you log in on the system now? I got this I don't get tickets. 61 did you get? All right, so what we're going to do is I'm going to place you in I'm going to transport you back. I was going to call my mom. No, you just did. YOU JUST DID. TURN AROUND. MAMA, I WAS GOING TO TURN AROUND. You just did. Mama, I was just on a call. I'm not going to run from you anymore. You just did. Can I call my mom? Can I say anything to my mom? No. I was going to move to the side. You just did. You just did. Mama, I was going to the side. It was clear she could quickly play innocent about what she had done just to pretend she was not guilty. And although the officer tried to confirm the facts, she continued to deny it with even more inconsistent statements. So now I'm going to charge you with resisting. Mama, I was just going going to the side. No, you didn't. I was going to Do you understand I'm recording everything that happens? But you saw that I jogged. I moved over. >> You jogged. I moved over cuz all these people was looking at me, ma'am. I got you. Let's go this way. So even if you weren't going to go to jail, you are now. Damn, I went to the side. I was going to grab the money and go to work that It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Anytime somebody makes me even have to jump after them, they going to jail. Mama, I'm so sorry. I did not I didn't mean to Damn, I just lost my baby. Jesus Christ. Mama, please. I went to the side. I didn't mean to run. I got to buy your food I did it. Can I please call my mom? >> Yeah, the following rights in the United States Constitution you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will can and will be used against you in court. You have the right to talk to your attorney before we ask you any questions and have an attorney present during questioning. If you decide to answer questions now I'm so upset with you. Mama, if you I just lost my baby. You have the right to talk to your attorney before we ask you any questions and have an attorney and have an attorney present during questioning. Her behavior and denial showed that she knew exactly what she was doing. And even the officer began to question whether this was truly her first time. Listen, I've never been I was not the one from you asking Let me ask you. Have you ever been to jail before? Then guess what? You wouldn't have gone to jail today. You wouldn't have gone cuz you would have gotten a notice to appear. Mama, Do you understand that? But you turn around and try to take Yeah, of course I do. I listen So do you have anything else on you that I need to be concerned about? >> Listen, mama. Ma'am, I I don't have time for that. The officer immediately conducted a search on the woman and clear evidence was found on her shortly after. What's in your pocket? I got lettuce. I get what you're saying, mama, but I was going to So you So you have lettuce in your pocket. You didn't pay for that either, right? No, ma'am. Okay. Anything else on you to be concerned about? No. Anything illegal on you? >> No, ma'am. What is your What is your name? What Jeremiah. Jeremiah, what's your last name? >> Perry. I have a son he would He's with somebody right now. I was calling >> Okay. Do you Are you wearing a bra, Jeremiah? Damn, you so hot. You so hot. I PROMISE YOU GUESS what I That part I don't understand. Everything else you said I You saw my right. Can I call my auntie when I'm back here, please? She can know what's going on. Have a seat, Jeremiah. Have a seat. No, please come on. Don't go Have a seat. Mama, Have a seat. Immediately after detaining the suspect, the officer returned the bag of lettuce to the store and further confirmed that she still had other items on her with the same intent to steal. What are you doing here today for? I'm sorry. I had her. Sorry. I got a little bit of lettuce here too that she had on her. Okay, yeah. That's the bag that's tied up. That's the one that Yes, that's what she took. That's the one that So if you What I need is an itemized out of All right, got you. You going to get you in in a minute. Thank you. She's a shoplifter. No, she's not. She was putting it over there. I was pulling up next to that pole. All right, I'm going to step out here for me, okay? All right, I'm going to search you this time and I'm going to search you Make sure you don't have anything on you again. Uh I'm going to ask you just to be clear, make sure that you have nothing else on you, nothing that's going to cuz once you get to the jail if you get to the jail and you have something on you that's concealed or anything like that, it becomes a felony. Do you understand? Okay, go ahead and turn around for me. Where's the tissue at? I have it in my hand. >> Okay, okay. Are my phone and my keys in there? >> I'm going to get it. We'll get it. I'll get it. Just come over here, okay? It was clear she cared more about her belongings than her wrongdoings after stealing from others. Even when speaking about her family, she still insisted on twisting the story to fit her own narrative. It's clear. They said she was there working. What the freaking freaking I didn't walk out with I didn't leave with the stuff. It didn't It wasn't cuz she wasn't going to She stopped me. I didn't run from her when she asked me. She told me to put my put my hands up. I moved over to where we were. I wanted to go where the flowers at so everybody could see where he was. I didn't even Her hands was never even off of me. So why would they say I resisted? I I I can't outrun you. I don't work out. I'm not What's she getting charged with, sir? I run though. Uh petty theft and resisting without violence. So both are misdemeanors. All right. What I was telling her What I was saying to her, I wasn't here when originally this happened, right? But here's just just word of advice. Hopefully this never happens again, right? It's not a big deal. So it's misdemeanor charge, okay? It's not going to end your life or anything like that, right? You'll be out tomorrow, okay? But hey, here's the deal, right? Hopefully there'll never be next time, okay? I don't I think you're a good person. I don't think this is like a common thing for you. Clearly you've never been arrested before, right? Okay? But here's the thing, if you if you mess up and you slip up and you do something like that and then the police come up to you, don't resist, okay? Don't run. Don't do anything like that cuz then it just it ties our hands. I was telling her this earlier. I thought resisting means you're trying to leave. >> No, it's called it's it's a floor statute. It's resisting without violence. That includes running, pulling, bracing, everything like that. It's It's It's I got it three times. You can get it for whatever It's It's It's when we have a lawful reason to detain you, right? Which we do if you're stealing stuff and you do anything that we tell you not to do, that's resisting, okay? Um the groceries that you got, you paid with Apple Pay so they can't refund it back because it's Apple Pay. So do you want him to go out and get the groceries, too? In the end, she was charged with petty theft and resisting an officer without violence. A moment of poor judgment can be fixed, but trying to deny, resist, and twist the truth only makes the consequences far worse. The next woman wasn't a shoplifter, but she brought nothing but chaos with her. You're going to go in here cuz of yourself. Turn around. Hey, [ __ ] Hey, turn around. Wait, wait, wait. I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. On September 8th, 2025, police received a call from a store at a gas station reporting a fight that had broken out there and the suspects had previously been trespassed from the location. This was what happened when officers arrived at the scene. Did you guys see what happened at all? I don't know cuz I know you guys were all together. I wasn't trying to intervene. All I'm saying is I don't even know. All I know is that Whose dog is this? We don't know. We don't know because we We were walking that dog earlier, but we don't know. Okay, okay, you don't know. No, because me All I know is he said I saw her walking with a dog and then I saw him screaming. We were walking with a dog and I said What's going on? So who hit Did you see anybody hit each other? >> Nobody. The dog is his. I don't know. It's what? His. It's his? A boy. Can I get your name? No. I'm not testifying. No. Okay, so you're telling me it's his dog? I saw him I already I saw him walking with that dog and as soon as we got here I saw him heard Hey, you like my new dog? And You supposed He didn't say anything to nothing. Who him walking the He's tweaking out. He's tweaking about my dog. >> Hey, is it about my dog? Watch out. Watch out. Watch out. Watch out, boy. So, these individuals were believed to have come here searching for a missing dog, but things took a turn when they deliberately violated their trespass ban. At that point, the officers tried to hear their story in order to find a way to resolve the situation. This is about my dog. Hey, this is about my dog. You guys are adding more for me. I want to know if I can go so I can get Yeah, I know, sweetie. You told me, but all this extra [ __ ] is going on. Now you guys are worrying about extra [ __ ] instead of my [ __ ] dog. I want to know about my dog so I can get the phone and see you in court. Monday morning. Oh, wait. It's not I'll put that big No, you got to I got I got Hey, just stay here, okay? Just don't even It's not even worth it. It's not worth it. All right, just relax, all right? Huh? Okay, well, it it's it looks like he's probably going to. You got to go now. Wait. I'm going to drink water. Whatever. Whatever. It was clear that the woman in the white shirt wasn't even taking the situation involving herself and her friend seriously. Moments later, she walked into the store anyway, forcing officers to step in and warn her again. All right, guys. Where's your friend at? Where's your friend at? You guys have to go. They don't want you at the gas station, okay? So, you guys got to go. I wasn't even I don't care. Go. I don't care. Okay, you got to go. Go. No, you're not going to use the bathroom, so I need you to head out now. Or you're going to be trespassed. You're going to You're going to go to jail. Come on. Come on. Go. You can wait outside. Come on. You can wait outside or you're going to go to jail. This is my last warning. Go. Go. Or you're going to go to jail. Come on. You want to go to jail? I have to go pee. I don't care. They don't want you here, so go. I wasn't messing with anything. I don't care. They don't want you here, so go. I wasn't part of anything. You're going to need to go. Okay, what's your name? What's your name? What is your name? I don't care. They don't want you here, so what is your name? What is your name? The gas staff member, the manager, does not want you here. So, go. I don't think I think he wants to meet you. He doesn't want you here. Do you need to go in handcuffs to realize that they don't want you here? Her lack of cooperation became undeniable, forcing officers to take stronger action, but the woman didn't make it easy. Chaos quickly erupted. Okay, you're going to go in handcuffs, so turn around. I will. WAIT. PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR BACK NOW. >> [screaming] >> SHE EVEN UNLAWFULLY RAN INTO THE STORE'S BACK area where she wasn't allowed, and even more shockingly, after everything she had caused, she then tried to present herself to the officers as the victim. Get out. Now. Leave or you're coming with. >> [laughter] >> No. Please don't don't Please don't take me to jail. Stand up. I swear. STAND UP. WHAT? STOP HURTING ME, [ __ ] I I DIDN'T do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. STOP DOING IT. I HAVE TO PEE. I HAVE TO PEE. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG. I'm innocent. Why are you You just attacked him. >> [laughter] >> I didn't do anything My back. I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. I swear. >> [screaming] [laughter] >> I didn't do anything. I swear to god. All you did was leave. I'm innocent. I'm innocent. I'm innocent. I swear. Only the woman was deluding herself into believing she was innocent because her earlier actions had been completely wrong, and even her behavior at that moment only proved it was still ongoing. Stop. [screaming] I'm not going to tell you again. STOP. MY BACK. I'm sorry. >> Then quit moving. I don't have anything. Stop moving. This is my first time. Well, then maybe you should listen. You shouldn't have done anything. Have a seat. Have a seat. I'm not going to tell you again. You won't come out. Can you In the end, the woman was charged with criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, battery on an officer, and resisting [music] arrest. Her downfall came from refusing to take responsibility for her actions, proving that ignoring lawful orders and escalating a situation will only make the consequences far worse. In the next case, the shoplift escalated even further. >> [snorts] >> So, you've never been arrested for shoplifting before? Um yeah, it was it was here for that. Years ago? On November 13th, police were dispatched to a sporting goods store following reports of a theft involving three women. Upon arrival, several store employees were already on site and provided numerous statements and evidence regarding the incident. >> Yeah, there's somebody out with them right now. Um just I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Right. We have the box and the shoes that they stole. Okay. What do the shoes look like? I guess Yeah, he'll just show me the box. Okay. We I got you, man. I'm good. Okay, cool. How you doing? Yeah, yeah, we got Yeah, we got an officer out there right now. Um so, what was it that they were doing? I'm I'm Okay. Did she leave the old shoes? No. Okay. And they're they're Timberland boots? She's wearing them. Oh, she's wearing them. Okay. Do y'all have camera footage readily available for us? Is it going to take a while to pull it up? You got camera footage? Okay. The suspects were alleged to have stolen the shoes by swapping the ones they were wearing with the store's merchandise, a scheme clearly captured on the store's surveillance cameras. Blue leggings, gray sweatshirt is the one that had on slides and then walked out in the boots. All right, thanks, man. She is wearing them. Blue leggings, gray sweatshirt. All right, so they're probably just in the car somewhere. She had her slides in her purse. Apparently, she has the slides on again right now. Um so, just two things I'll need from y'all, how much the boots cost, and I just will need a name as far as to represent Academy in the report. That's That's it. Yeah. Um yeah, if you if you have a better picture of maybe her face. >> Yeah, I can get them out. Okay. I sent you a picture of her wearing the boots leaving the store. And they jumped back into that car, looks like. I'm having a bad day. The redhead walked in first, right? Redhead got in the car. And as far as y'all know, did they take anything other than the boots? Okay. Meanwhile, an officer approached one of the three suspects, and she admitted that the nonpayment had occurred. However, her account partly shifted blame onto her friend and sought to minimize her own involvement. All right, just talking [snorts] to my dispatcher. Um but tell me Tell me exactly what was going on. We got a little snow. I kind of I kind of got like a general idea of what you were saying happened. I think like >> [music] >> the lady called the boy over. Mhm. We were looking at the swift cams. And when we walked to like the back of the store to look at the slide Shoplifting. >> walked up. We walked past the line and he fell back. And he grabbed and grabbed me up. And I just thought I thought like well, they were both they both Well, we went and put everything back and we left. Okay. So, you did Hey, you guys didn't You didn't even pay for anything or Okay, I got you. Yeah, I I No, cuz I They told They were doing it to me. Okay. >> It wasn't one person. It was like five of them. I got you. Were they like following you around the store Okay. The police quickly determined that only the woman wearing jeans had actually committed the theft. At this point, they [music] confronted her directly. Miss Cooper, would you mind just stepping out for me? We're going to talk back here for a minute. Would you mind stepping out as well, please? Huh? Yes, you need to step out. All right. So, if you want to come stand over here real quick. No, why am I being detained? I got you. I got you. So, um I gave us the lie that we were lucky. Like No, I I get it. Um so, >> Exactly what I told you. They they are They are You guys are saying you guys didn't shoplift, correct? Not at all. You guys didn't steal anything, nothing like that. So, so [clears throat] here's the thing, okay? They are alleging that they saw you guys shoplift, okay? They're saying that you guys that you guys made off with a pair of black Timberland boots. They finally know what they saw. They don't know what they're giving the boots. I I got you. I got you. So, so let me let me ask you this question, okay? Let me ask you this question. This is your car? Okay. To make this easy, to to prove your innocence, would you give us consent to just look in your car for black boots? And if they're not there, we going to get you out of here. Look, see it was Can we Can we search your car for the black boots? And if they're not in the in there, then y'all are going to be free to go. The woman hesitated when asked to allow a search of the car, even though she needed to deny the act, which only heightened the officer's suspicion. What she didn't realize was that the police already had enough evidence to proceed with the search. So, here's here's something uh that bag right there is in the backseat. What bag? I need to speak to an attorney. You stand over there. I didn't tell you to come over here. Yep, gray sweatshirt. And there's the bag. >> And there's the bag. What bag? So, now we have probable cause to search your car. What bag? Oh, look right there. They're my work boots. That's okay. They're work boots. The black Timberlands? They're my boots. Huh? I stole them. 494 to 456. We have recovered the boots. They're work boots. Oh, the stolen ones. Those ones, however. And here's the gray sweatshirt. Here's the bag. [music] That bag didn't belong to my girlfriend. All right. At this point, there was nothing left to deny. The truth had to come out. The police even quickly discovered that this was not her first offense. So, you've never been arrested for shoplifting before? Um >> [music] >> yeah, it was two It was two years ago. Two years ago? How many times have you been arrested for? Just one? So, this is going to be a misdemeanor, okay? You just a misdemeanor shoplifting. You don't have to go to jail tonight, okay? I do. [music] Yes. If you had never been arrested for it before, I would I would issue you a citation for it. Can I please give me a citation? I can't. And the only reason why I can't I've never done shoplifting. I I know. I know. But, that was before laws changed and procedures had had changed, okay? So, here's what I'm going to tell you. Because you have already because you have previously been arrested for it. Policy and uh law and stuff like that states that I have to take you to the jail this time. Because you've been arrested for it before. If this was your first offense, I would just give you a citation and get you out of here, okay? That's just not the case anymore. For right now, okay? But, here's the thing. You'll be able to bond out tonight. There's a preset bond for misdemeanor shoplifting. I think it's I would go check. Don't quote me on this, but I think it's $500. Okay? 500? 500. So, let me read it out. So, that is Again, Additionally, did you notice that the officers found foil wraps in the car? This is often seen in drug-related cases. During the incident, one of the suspects tried to swallow them to hide the evidence, which has now left her in a seriously unstable condition. Can you look at me? Can you look at my nose? Look at my nose, okay? Open your eyes. She goes unconscious. We'll put her on Narcan. If she goes unconscious, what we'll do is I'll toss you the Narcan. I'll take her out of handcuffs and we'll put her in the recovery position. They're going to be coming from station eight, I think. We're going to be out here. You You watch her. Yeah. I'm going to What are you doing? Sparkle. You good? Prevent her from falling. Has she gone unconscious yet? Pay attention to her. Sparkle. Sparkles. Hey. 94 Central. Advise EMS to come to me. She's now deteriorating. Sparkles. We're going to push it. Stop. Stop. No, hang on. Hey. Sparkles. You need to answer us. Otherwise, I'm going to put a Narcan in your nose. Claire. The woman in jeans was charged with theft by shoplifting, and the woman in the blue sweatshirt was charged with possession and use of controlled substances. The lesson: Lies and attempts to cover up wrongdoing almost always backfire, creating far bigger consequences than the original act. Next, this man even prepared a hairstyle that was enough to conceal his identity. Hey, what's up, bro? Why is your hair like that? So, you wouldn't be detected on camera? No, my hair's always like this. On April 9th, 2025, the police received a report from Target about a man who was shoplifting inside the store. As soon as they arrived at the scene, the officers worked with loss prevention staff to review everything through the surveillance cameras. Has he concealed it yet? elbow right now. He's holding it. That looks like he has a bunch of more cards, a bunch of trading card packets in hand. He's holding it in the bottom right now. He's holding some more cards in his arm. They might be the empty boxes. But, he is holding on to his left elbow. Third box. After a fairly long wait, the male suspect finally intended to flee. But, what he did not know was that the police were also planning to catch him off guard. Hold on. Hold on. Hold [snorts] on. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. He's coming out my way. You all right? Yep, right here. Hey, what's up, bro? What did I do? Shoplifting and trespassing. I'm not trespassing. I'm allowed in the store. They They just They just dismissed the charges. So, they dismissed the charge. They dismissed the shoplifting charge against me. They dismissed the shoplifting charge against me. They dismissed >> still trespassing? They dismissed it. But, you're still trespassing on Target, dude. What? They They told me in court that it's not the case. They said that they dismissed the charge that I'm not I don't I'm not I'm allowed to go to Target. They didn't tell you to tell you to come back whenever. Why would they tell me that? They didn't tell me that. Why would they tell me that I can't come to the store? I didn't understand. I get what you're saying, no, but I didn't I wasn't aware that they They dismissed the charge. He believed he was being arrested due to a previous trespass charge in his criminal history, but in reality, it was still active. At that moment, the search on him began. Don't worry about that right now. Your trespass charge I had Okay, The shoplifting charge out. I had no idea that I wasn't allowed to be at Target. I'm not >> Mondo llama Oh, station yard. Oh, he's got another receipt. That looks old. Yeah, that's the tray underneath. Edwin, Edwin, real quick. Hey, hold hold up. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand your rights? Are these the only two receipts that you paid for right here? Where is the receipt for all the stuff inside this bag minus that >> The other thing I brought in with me, you can see on the cameras I brought it in with me. Yeah, I brought that with me. You brought the bag with all this stuff in? >> Yes, I brought the bag with the phone, the the cards and then the the phone, the cards and I even have a receipt for the phone in there. It's it's in there. The The phone phone for the receipt? That's a phone that's the receipt for the phone. I brought that with me. I was going to return it. I changed my mind. They don't have the one I wanted. So, you walked in with stuff that cost a dollar each. Yes. That didn't really cost a dollar, right? >> That was what I did wrong. Yes, I swiped the cards for a dollar. I swiped the cards for a dollar, but I had the [clears throat] receipt for the stuff I brought in with me. >> was everything? How much was the merchandise that you paid a dollar for? How much was it the retail value? I know you know because you're into that sort of thing. So, he admitted that he had made a mistake, but it was more accurate to say it was intentional as even his hairstyle raised suspicion for the police. Okay. Why is your hair like that? So, you wouldn't be detected on camera? No, my hair's always like this. I'm not on the other I've been watching all kinds of stuff. Maybe I think I know you. >> Every every time I come in this Every time I come in this my hair has been like looking photo is just it's clean. Oh, well, I put it like that in a ponytail afterwards. Yeah, but I mean I wear it sometimes up in like a top bun or I'll have it down like this, but it's always curly and I always have it it's it's 50/50. But, you'll see any other time I've come in this in the Target my hair is like this as well. Did you intend to come into this Target to steal all this stuff? >> No, sir, I did not. What did you intend to come here to do? >> and exchange the phone and then they didn't have one that I wanted to exchange it for and I looked around and I saw the cards, realized I couldn't afford it, so But, you go to Target all the time. You know they have cards like that. Well, they don't they don't always have them. No, they they're But, you know they sell them because you you hang out every Target Valley. Well, they're sold out all the time. Like they're sold out. The cards are really hard to find. Everybody The scalpers are buying them left and right and everything and I collect them with my son, so when I can get my hands on them I actually get them. I buy a lot of cards. For a buck? Well, no, I actually pay for a lot of cards. >> Okay, so let me see your phone. I got to check your lower half. During the search, the man continuously shared details about his situation as if he was trying to gain sympathy to escape the charges. I had all kinds of stuff. I just I And they dropped it. Yes, sir. I've only one A bunch of mom's sitting watching you. I promise you if you look at the my charges I only one time in Oro Valley I got charged and they dismissed the shoplifting charge. >> There's there's a bunch of pending ones. >> I didn't steal anything. There's a bunch of pending from Oro This has to come off. All right here in this bag. How does this come off? Over my head. Careful, please. It's got sentimental value from a family member who passed. Please don't snap it. I don't want to get I'm not worried about getting hurt. I just wanted it to get snapped. I'm not trying to pull your hair out either. No, I understand. I'm not worried about that. I just don't want the rose to break. My mother gave it to me and she passed away. See? Although he claimed he was in a difficult situation, the items the police later returned to the store showed that he had not taken anything related to basic necessities, proving that it was all just a scheme. Mondo llama, four of them. What's Mondo llama? Mondo so he Wait, those are Okay, so that's Okay, cool. No, no, they know these are these are the two receipts from the day. Look at the timestamp. These are all individual packaging or they come out of one box? Come out of one. These were kind of ones. He empty packaged four of them. Where's that Michael's getting it right now. Oh, he took all the cards out. Did he do more internal damage, too? Actually the boxes are We're going to have all the boxes. Yeah, yeah. Well, no, no, no, the thing is arguing that he's a project and schemes because I'll show you these packs. I didn't get that much. Just off the top, how much you got? I love the boxes. Bad cards Is that it? He was charged with trafficking in stolen property, aggravated shoplifting as part of a continued crime spree, unlawful use of a universal product code and use of an artifice container. Mistakes that are repeated with intention are no longer accidents, they become choices and every choice carries consequences that cannot be avoided. In the next case, the man even lost his job over dog food. Man, I'm about to lose my job. Do you understand? These are shrimp scampi. So, this this isn't the car you're driving. Who's On June 5th, police were patrolling as usual when they suddenly received an emergency call reporting a theft. The victim stated that her package had been stolen by a man right in front of her door. More specifically, this was what was captured when the call came in. Dispatch 911, what's the additional emergency? I just had a package stolen off out of my apartment complex and I saw the man as it was happening. Okay. What would you say the time lapse was? Uh probably about 5 10 minutes since this happened. Like was he what was a male or female? Uh it was a man, white black Hispanic or Asian? Uh black. He was uh driving a car a white Infiniti van uh and it was a white Infiniti van. Yes. Which way did he go? Um I'm not sure. I was in the apartment complex and he just drove out of the apartment complex. Okay. What color shirt was he wearing? I don't remember. I was up on the third floor watching this happen cuz my package was down below. I'm going to get somebody to you, okay? Okay, thank you. You're welcome. Another officer had also received the information in time and quickly located the suspicious vehicle that had been mentioned. As he approached, the officer's questioning was met with suspicious answers that only deepened the doubt. 32, final stop will be the public spark lot next to the restore. 32, copy. What's going on, man? How you doing? Great. How about yourself? I'm Officer Shaw with the Downey Police Department. Where you coming from? Just uh just did a job at I just Actually done with it. What was you doing there? I just did an did an installation. Installation? Did you have boxes with you? Boxes? Yeah. Yeah. You did? What kind of installation did you do? I just did a It was just a cable box installation. Where'd you put the boxes when you did the installation? You had them outside inside apartment? Yeah, both. Both? Yeah. All right, give me one second. Immediately after, an additional phone call was made to the victim to further confirm whether the person they had found was indeed the suspect. Hi, Catherine. This is Officer Shaw with the Downey Police Department. How you doing? Okay, what happened with what you saw with um the larceny? Uh so, you didn't see So, the package wasn't at your front door. Okay, you assumed that it was dropped off at the first floor. And then You did see it. Was the package gone when you went down there? Okay. And you Okay. All righty, give me one second, okay? So, what's going So, she advised that she had a package delivered at the first floor, but she was heavy, so that's why she left it there. She said she hears like somebody dragging something that sounds like her package cuz it was heavy out the complex and all she saw was when she looked out was him and saw him getting in the van, door closing and her package was gone. So, she didn't see him take it. She just assumed that he took it or he he saw who took it. So, we can ask him did he get a package? He said he did do a installation over there. So, he was over there. But I So, let me let me talk to him real quick. I'm going to try to get that rubber to him. Okay, yeah. Then I go Then let me know what he say. Okay. Once everything had been confirmed, the officers directly presented their accusation to the suspect, but what stood out was the man's hesitant reaction that followed. All right. So, the reason we stopped is because they're saying supposedly they gave me your description, your vehicle, stuff saying that you supposedly took a package in the apartment complex. Did you take any packages out there? I had a box. Okay. You didn't take no package? So, you might you you you don't mind if I if I take a quick look at your van real quick? All right, cool. You can step outside for me. You can open the open the back for me. We can go from there. Did you see anybody with a large box or package? Well, it was Yeah, it was a large box out there. Did you see somebody who took it? Do you have that package in the van? You have Do you have it? You do? I'm going to search your person real quick, man. All right. Actually, I You're down, right? Yeah, just two. Just two. Yeah, I'm on the other one. You sure? Yeah, so you're you're you're being arrested for for a theft, okay, man? So, you basically stole some somebody's package, okay? It was clear that he had been trying to come up with an excuse, which explained his hesitation, but in the end, he had no choice but to admit it. Shortly after the officers proceeded to search and successfully found the package inside. Describe the dog food for me. From Where'd you order it from? I ordered it from Chewy. Chewy? All righty. So, what we're going to do is we got the guy we did a traffic stop on him. We're over here in the Publix parking lot. So, we're going to come over and get all your information and give you your box back, okay? We got him in custody. All righty. So, give me 1 second. Stay near your phone, okay? I'm going to call you when I I'm going to come meet with you, okay? No problem. You want Brown and Brown, Marino? Huh? You want Brown and Brown? Yeah. 32. Can you start Brown and Brown for one? Hey, guy. Yes, she described a She described the dog food to a T. Okay. Yeah, man. It's called It's called theft. That's That's illegal. It seemed the suspicion surrounding the suspect's wrongdoing didn't end there, as officers soon discovered something else that made the situation far more serious. Yeah. Can you check for quick Shrooms? Okay. I'm going to search you real quick, okay, man? You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? These are shrooms, correct? So, this this in the car you're driving? Whose Whose stuff is it? I don't know whose that is. I never saw that before. Okay. What was in the back? You tell me what was it. I don't know. I never I don't Okay. Well, you're being charged with it, okay? Cuz it it is it is illegal. >> to be charged with it, so you might as well be honest. They mine. That's a company van. No, no cap. >> Company van? With all your clothes in there and all that stuff. >> Yeah, but that ain't mine. I don't do shrooms. Well, I'm going to tell you this, man. You are in possession of that vehicle. You're being charged with shrooms, okay, man? Shrooms and what seems to be a little bit of weed. Oh, more shrooms? Yeah. Okay. Oh, okay. Bro, that's not mine. You're in possession. I don't know. I never saw that before. I did the box, but I ain't take it. Where you get shrooms from? I don't got no I don't know. I don't take shrooms. Where did you get them from? I didn't get them. Bro, that ain't mine. He was charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance. Remember, a moment of impulse can cost everything once you cross the line. The consequences don't stay small. Next, the woman seemed completely unaware of the wrongdoing she had committed. I'm not trying to hear all that. Okay. I understand you, okay? I'm not about it. Tell her I'm not trying to play with her. I don't have I don't You do? On the 3rd of November, 2023, police were dispatched to a residential area after receiving a report of a car purchase using a fraudulent ID, with the suspect believed to reside there. Here is what happened next. Hello. Hello. Hi. I'm Officer Brown, Bloomington Police Department. Reason I'm out here is I'm looking into I got a call at a car dealership where you guys were at a car dealership a little bit ago. Yeah. Okay. I got to talk to you about whatever was going on there. I don't know if what I wasn't there, so I'm trying to get the story straight. Um they're concerned because they think some of the paperwork didn't match up or something. Does that make sense? I was just there and I was trying to get a car, yeah. Okay. Did you provide them any kind of like fake information or something like that? No. Okay. Do you have the Yeah. Could I see it? How's it going? Okay. What about the other license that you provided them? The driver's license? >> Yeah. Let me see that one. Victor 1, can you run me this person, please? She had used someone else's driver's license to try to buy a car, which is why the police requested to see it. However, the results of her search only raised further suspicion. This is the one I gave to you. No, I need the driver's license that you provided them. Oh, I think I dropped it in my mom's car when she came to get me. Okay. Where did you get that license? This is the one I gave to you. Where did you get it? Where did you get license from? Okay. Well, the state of Illinois hasn't issued you a license. I do have a license. Well, not according to the state of Illinois. Do they want me to bring it back up to them when I get it or can I I'd like to see the license that you have. My mom's not here. Okay. You see how this is a problem? I'm trying to get some cooperation from you. I'm not trying to cause a big scene here. >> I am sorry. I It's obvious that the whatever license you provided them is not your actual license because according to the state, you don't have a license. And it's not the same information that's on any of these that you've handed me. What information is different? The birthday. Okay. Okay. Can you provide me with that license so I can finish this up? >> license on me right now. I dropped that license right now. I probably dropped it in my mom's car. It was only three forms of ID I had on me anyway. Okay. At this point, the police confronted her directly with their suspicions. Yet, even hearing this, the woman showed no surprise. Perhaps she had anticipated what was unfolding. The issue here is you understand that you've committed a crime by doing that, right? By providing a false driver's license in order to try to get approved to buy a car. You understand that that's a crime, right? Yeah. Okay. Did you do that? Like because you you don't have a valid license, you're worried that because it's not valid that you wouldn't be able to drive away from with the car or Oh, no. I wasn't worried about that at all. I just grabbed the ID that's in my wallet. Okay. Well, you get you just gave me three IDs, and none of these are the ones that you gave them just a few minutes ago. Yeah, and my mom picked me up and I said I must have dropped it in her car because I didn't put it back in my wallet. Okay. Um would you let me come in and see if your that fake fake license is here? You don't mind? You don't have a warrant to come in here. No. That's why I just asked. What are you What are you trying to look You want to go through my house? Well, I mean, if that's where the ID is, I just would like to get that license that you had provided. Okay. If you don't have a warrant, you can't come in. Okay. The woman neither denied the suspicions nor responded when asked to produce the ID, making the investigation more difficult. The police then decided to take her into temporary custody in order to proceed. There's a whole new process for getting out of jail and bonding and stuff like that, and I'm going to work through that here in just a minute, okay? So, I'm not even sure if you'll be sitting there overnight or anything like that. So. All right. She's coming down there. I'm going to get down to the bottom and I'm going to put you in handcuffs, okay? Okay. All right. I'm just going to go and go call my mama. If you can, just tell her something. She's got a boyfriend or something up there. He's kind of giving me an attitude. No, he said he wanted a warrant. Okay. I know and he started getting a little attitude, so I just want to make sure I had somebody here. Okay. I appreciate you being cooperative with me. You want to go your hand there so I can get this hooked up? Before being placed in the squad car, she was searched by a female officer. Yet, at this point, she seemed to be joking about the situation, even talking more than she did during the investigation. Bro, she got a little attitude. I'm not trying to hear all that. I'm not bothered. I tell her I'm not trying to play with her. I don't have I don't You do? I don't have time. What did he say? >> [laughter] >> Uh Call my uncle. Call my uncle and tell him to send you money so you can come get me. >> Yeah, it's it's not like that anymore. You're going to go get an NTA. You're going to go get in processed through, get a notice to appear. They're going to get you court date. There's no cash bond. Yeah, you'll be back before dinner time. All right. Widen your feet for me, hon, okay? You want him to have your phone or not? A little bit more. Yeah. A little bit more, hon. Huh? Widen your stance for me, hon. The woman was charged with using a fraudulent driver's license. Trying to take shortcuts through deception can quickly lead to legal trouble. It serves as a clear reminder that dishonesty carries consequences and cooperation with authorities is far safer than resistance or evasion. What do you think about cases like this? Give me your information. Listen to me. I don't care. Give me your name. Give me your name. Was it resentment over being treated like a criminal? Perhaps that was why obtaining the woman's information was not easy at all as the other suspect also behaved the same way. What's her name? She's not giving it to you. >> No, that's why I'm coming to ask you. >> They don't got nothing to do with me, sir. You're being rude to me and >> Okay, we're going to We're going to Here's what we're going to do. We're going to give you a ticket, okay? When you approach people in certain situations, don't just treat them bad or just >> let me The woman saw herself as the victim, even though she was the one who raised her voice and obstructed the officers from the start. Watch how police handled this situation and leave your thoughts below. Have we ever met before? No. Do I know who you are and what you're capable of? No, sir. But sir So, when when everything has calmed down like this, I can have a civilized discussion with you, but I can't do that while I have you. I'm worried about her in the car. Okay? I'm going to give you the number to the act shelter. If you need a place to stay, call them. Okay? In the end, the woman was charged with grand theft and resisting without violence. Denial and anger only made the situation worse, showing that accountability and cooperation are often the only way to prevent a small mistake from turning into a life-altering consequence. Next, meet a Victoria's Secret shoplifter with no secret left to hide. >> this bag. No. Okay. Give me those bags. It's my purse. Yeah, I know. All right, we're at criminal. On March 26th, 2024, police responded to a report from a shopping mall about a woman who carried out retail theft at multiple stores. As soon as they arrived on scene, one of the store employees recounted what had happened. Are they Are they still here or no? Yeah. Well, I mean, she walked out that way, but God knows what store she probably like jumped into or she probably like ran out the mall or whatever. Cuz she seen me on the phone and when she seen me on the phone, she started like kind of like speed walking a little bit faster towards that way. I tried to call the Finish Line to see if they had seats like kind of kind of like outside of them, too, to see, but What was Remember what she was wearing? Yeah, she had a blue pants like nurse scrubs. So, blue nurse scrubs with a white shirt. Did you tell dispatch that? >> Yeah. I gave them all the description already. She had a full locker bag, so she came in originally to exchange something. She was looking at these shirts in the front. I had already seen her, so I came up to her. "Hey, how are you?" And then she was like, "Oh, I'm just looking." And then I was like, "Okay." And then I seen her looking for the other shirt and I was like, "Oh, what size do you need?" And she was like, "Oh, a medium." She was like, "But I can help myself." She was like She was like, "I can do it by myself." And then I was like, "You're already making it so obvious for yourself." But I'm like, "Okay." So, I was like, "Oh, okay." But no, I was like, "This is my job." Whatever. So, I grabbed the stack from her and I'm like, "Oh, I'm going to check the size for you." And she was like, "Okay, well, I'm looking for a medium." And she walked away from me. And I didn't have a medium, so I was like, "Oh, I have a large or a small. Which one do you prefer?" She was like And she was like completely ignoring me the whole time. Like she was talking like She was talking to herself the whole time. That's what she was doing. She was like, "A large." I'm like, "A large? Do you Do you want a large? Do you want a large?" And she just kept ignoring me. And then she My other sales associate that's here right now, she was like super nice. And she was like, "Hi, how are you? How's your day? How's your uh And I was like, "Oh, I was like, did I offend you? Are you Do you feel okay?" And then she was like completely ignoring me. Whatever. So, I already knew what she was doing. So, she grabbed the shirt that she had in her hand. I turned the corner to help another customer. And I turned back around. The shirt is not in her hand and it's not in the pile. So, I know she walked out with it. Clearly through that testimony, the suspect was completely professional in handling her situation. Even when the police approached, she immediately pretended to be confused as if she truly had done nothing wrong. From yellow shirt, blue jeans and blue pants. She called the police. Yeah. The store Sir, what store? Look. Let's go back and figure it out. Okay. Wait Wait a minute. Um just watch her. What store? Did she come in here drop something? I just walked in the store. We just called [clears throat] Attraction. What's the name of those store? Attraction. I'm not Quick and 12. I walked right here. I just walked right here. I just walked in here. Her rapid breathing showed she had run in here only to do something in haste. Immediately after, this store employee helped the police clarify the situation. Maybe this belongs to her. Victoria's Secret? No, um These are not ours. No. She got hit somewhere and she's running back. And she you saw her throw the stuff in? As well. It's not ours. No No shirt or anything? Shirt? Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> What are you doing? I'm not. I'm not. You want to be put in handcuffs? >> No. No. Okay. So, chill. I mean, there's no reason to take it to another level cuz we're going to get all this figured out. >> Right. Is there anything in this bag? >> No. Okay. Give me those bags. It's my purse. Yeah, I know. That's why I'm telling you to give me those bags. >> to give you I'm going to Thank you. No, does she have that bag? Hey, uh She dropped it. Detainer Detainer right now. Huh? Appreciate Give me all this here. Give me all that. Put your hands What? I didn't even do nothing. Immediately after detaining the woman, officers proceeded to collect her information. It seemed she had not faced the police for the first time. What do you think it is? It's right up there. This side? Nothing I'm doing. Right there. Yeah, under there. Um Yeah. In front of like Grey Hound. Grey Hound? We'll get a female officer over here and take care of you. We have uh You know what I mean? Napkins at the station. Um Do you have any more? No, I don't have any more. On three. You got it? Last time you were arrested? Mhm? Recently? Recently? Yeah, about a month ago. And have you dealt with that one yet? Nope. No. Um we'll get all your family's stuff arranged. You know, we'll make sure you contact uh you know, especially your grandma or your your mom. Let her Let Let her know what's going on. Um Cuz uh totaling all this it's going to be uh probably going to be a felony. Right. So, um but we're not going to leave your family home. All right? In fact, the store she stood in was merely the place she rushed into to hide the stolen items after attempting to flee from the nearby Victoria's Secret. At that moment, the store employee appeared extremely relieved and excited. Doug, can you step aside? this bag. Yeah. It's not her bag. Yeah. Thank you. I was just going to report We were just checking the doors where she was. I went back there. She made some wild and ran out of the store looking for her sister. Do you have Well, this is good. This is good. It's good, but Um do you have a place where you can just go through this, itemize it, and then Yeah, we're going to make a whole report and every single every single SKU will be recorded. Very good. >> Down to the very dollar. Can you do a cross SKU on the system? Um yeah, let me get my store manager. Okay, cool. For sure. Give me just a moment. Yep. Hi. Hello. It's I mean, I I don't know. There's a lot of items in here, but >> Okay. as far as valuation, if you could just uh give us an itemized list. Yes, we will. You know how much panties Oh my god. We were just looking through the drawers to see what Oh my god. Yeah, we noticed that she took panties. We went back to look in the drawer. We thought that she was missing, but we didn't know that she took uh beauty as well. The panties are She had a shopping bag also. We're going to We're going to You know our AP person? We'll for sure give you a case number. Okay. Can you give me a valuation or at least an approximation of the value? It was clear the suspect acted with such calculated precision that she took the items without the employees even realizing when it happened. The quantity of merchandise was far from small. People come in here and just uh loading up bags. We still get We still get two of them. There's two men that do it. Yeah. And they take the bras and then they leave them. They don't [music] take much. So, it's not a big deal. We just report it, give them a new one. Is that the only one she took from here? I'm sure it'll be just under the felony amount. But she probably has prior convictions, so that'll help. >> Well, we haven't gotten to the very sexy part, so these are just These are nothing. This is just pocket change. I'm sorry. The You said the the what? These panties are more expensive. Oh, okay. I got you. Sorry. No, I didn't know if there was a style that It is. We This is kind of like cotton and then we have like the very sexy and we have synthetic Oh, I got you. Yeah. etc. So, what does it have to be at? A grand? Is that what it has to be at? Um no, I believe the threshold is 750 now. Okay. Immediately after police confirm that the merchandise she stole amounted to approximately $1,000, but look at her attitude at that moment and let us know your thoughts about her. How we're at We're at $1,000. 1,085 so far. Okay. Okay. All right. That's another bag of Victoria's Secret. So, is that is that the second $1,000 amount? Well, no, he's going to go do it again. That's probably another $1,000. Okay. All right. Um Uh she's on private property. All righty. All right. You already told her she's trespassed before or what? So, yeah, you are trespassed for a year. We need that from today to that. Okay. You're not allowed in. It's always good to see you. Finally, she was charged with felony retail theft due to prior convictions and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Past mistakes never disappeared, they only made the next consequences heavier. Thinking confidence could outplay evidence only led to a harsher fall.
