[music] Now the Grinch, feeling bold, thought he'd try something new. To Mesa PD, he proclaimed. Yes, that's what I'll do. He marched to the station, all grumpy and green, ready to show he could join the team scene. First stop, dispatch with screens big and small. Just answer the phones, they said. That is all. But the moment he tried, he tangled each line. He hollered and muttered, "These buttons aren't mine." He mixed [music] up the channels, the calls, and the chatter. Turns out for the Grinch, details don't matter. Next came the [music] academyy's obstacle course, where agility, strength, and endurance are force. But the Grinch had some issues and hit a wall. He rolled down the hill like a big fuzzy ball. Next came vehicle training. with a course wide and clear. A big open lot, they said. Nothing close, nothing near. Just follow the lines and avoid every cone. It's simple. It's easy. Just stay in the zone. He hit one in the corner. He hit two in the back. He hit cones in locations, not even on the track. And the Grinch slumped down low with a grumbly moan. Maybe driving's not meant for a guy made of green tone. Then the air unit tried him up high in the sky, but the Grinch turned bright teal when the Hilo flew by. He spun in the seat, yelling, "Let me off this thing." As the helicopter wobbled like a door on a hinge, the crew kindly said, "Ground jobs might be better." And handed him back his nice try sweater. Next up were the motors, all shiny [music] and loud. The Grinch puffed his chest, feeling terribly proud. But the moment he mounted the bike with a grin, he zoomed 30 ft, then spun right back again. He wobbled and shrieked. I'm losing control. As the bike [music] drifted into a training patrol pole, defeated and droopy, he slumped on the floor. I'm no cop at all. I can't try anymore. But an officer walked by and said, "Grinch, come with me. There's a job you're perfect for. Just wait and you'll see." They brought him to kids at a community event down the street where small hands waved wildly and smiles were sweet. The Grinch greeted them with excitement. He laughed and he played and the gloom in his heart slowly started to fade. He taught them about public safety helped brighten their day. And the joy in their eyes melted Grinch ice away. And right at that moment, oh yes, it is true. His heart grew one inch. Then one inch more grew. He'd finally found where his talents belonged. In serving the kiddos, where kindness stands strong. Now the Grinch wears a badge on a vest of bright blue as a community action officer. Loyal and true. He failed many rows, but he learned something grand. There's a place for each heart in this wide helping land. And the Grinch, while he's happy he found his right niche, giving back to the children without one single hitch.
