[Music] the police department's Mission Vision uh is was pretty simple uh we wanted to be a worldclass police agency provide world class police service to our citizens and while our political mission was to build a better Mesa the law enforcement mission was to build a safer Mesa the police department itself is 1,50 men and women uh 800 are sworn positions we provide Regional Radio Service we have a full service crime lab that does everything including DNA we have a fusion center that is here in Mesa Police Headquarters that has uh seven different local police agencies represented the mission of the fusion Center is to provide actionable intelligence support our law enforcement Community enhance our crime fighting efforts and we do this by uncovering sources of information through databases and our number one database is cop [Music] link cop link has allowed us uh in the cars to to grab information from anywhere in the region uh you have part of a license plate you have a somewhat of a description of somebody a nickname scars marks tattoos things like that we are able to allow the officers to use coplink on their mobile digital terminal in the car uh to grab that information uh very [Music] rapidly smarter policing means really leaning on technologies that can still help us accomplish our crime fighting objectives and it's worked out very well for us because we're at historic lows in the city of mes almost 60e lows and each year gets better I probably use complink I would say just about every case that I have in some fashion or another sometimes it's just a simple little search sometimes it's more involved copling has made our job much easier and we are much more efficient now than we were before it's the most exciting change that's happened in the last 21 years for law enforcement the speed at which we're able to get information is increased exponentially and for an investigation that's the most important thing it's just really changed the whole mindset for law enforcement if you can find something like coplink that helps us do our job in a better more efficient faster way well that saves US money and what we call Value Engineering in the city is what coping provides to our officers on the streets it allows them to access information that used to take days weeks and months and minutes I think that it's opened communication doors and we Now understand the true value of collaboration the true value of something like coping fusion centers working with all levels of police departments and City management to make sure that we're addressing the problems as quickly as we can with the help of my staff uh and other partners in the region we're continually trying to push the envelope and really change law enforcement for the next decade and really that's what we're doing we're providing a service to a community we are a business uh that allows people to move freely and to be safe where they
