It started with the lies they told to justify their actions. >> My heart in I can show you. Like seriously, I didn't try to steal this. If I was going to steal it, I would have just won it. >> I paid for the Legos. >> You take it switch them. >> I didn't switch anything. I didn't >> until the deputy uncovered everything. >> So, the register is where we have like the best type of, you know, camera coverage. >> The the video they clearly didn't scan it properly scan it. >> None of them showed any shame in admitting their mistakes. Please, please, I'm begging you. Please don't do this to me. Please. I did not try to steal nothing. >> Here are the times when Shoplifter doesn't realize CCTV caught her. Starting with the woman who pretended to pay in an attempt to fool the store employee. >> I really have to go. Please. I have an 8-month old son. I have to go again. >> I understand. >> And I'm not trying to steal everything. Please. Please. I'm begging you. Please go. On the 1st of September 2026, officers were dispatched to a Target store after loss prevention had detained a woman who had taken $600 worth of unpaid merchandise despite both of her payment cards being declined. When officers approached, she already had a story to deny stealing. >> My card in I can show you. Like seriously, I didn't try to steal this [ __ ] Like if I was going to steal it, I would have just walked out the [ __ ] door. I would have never took the time to ring everything. I put my face on a self spanner. You know what I mean? Like that's [ __ ] And I my first one card declined. So I used my other card. And when I pulled that card out, it said approved. And I'm in a hurry because I have to go get my eight-month old son. Okay. >> And I have people sitting outside. So it said approved. I didn't wait for a receipt. I didn't wait for nothing. And he ran up outside on me and when he said, "Your card, your stuff declines." I stopped immediately. I didn't have no problem coming back in to redo it. >> It was a mistake. It wasn't me. I'm not trying to steal nothing. >> Okay. It was a big mistake. >> Okay, >> please don't charge me with this. I have to go get my son. >> I get that. Um, >> it's it was a mistake and he can go through and redo everything. I scanned every single item. >> Okay, >> I really was not stealing nothing. Why would I ring $600 and stuff? >> People do a lot of different things. So, >> I just don't have time because I have 800. >> I get that. I understand that. Unfortunately, we're in this circumstance now. Um, do you have the ability to pay for this? >> Yeah. The woman used her responsibilities as a mother as an excuse, claiming that her actions were simply a mistake. She even continued using it to pressure and make things difficult for the officer. >> So, I really have to go, please. I have a 8-month old son that I have to go and get. >> I understand. >> And I'm not trying to steal. I didn't try to steal nothing. >> We're in this circumstance. What car are they in? There's another officer here. He can go up to the car. >> Um, they're they're in a white SUV. >> A white Chevy Tahoe. Do you know what lane >> grocery side? >> Okay. But that's the problem is that we're in is right now we're we're almost on the cusp of proving intent that you did this. Okay. >> That I intended to do this. >> Yes. >> How? >> With the knowledge and capability. That's that's the problem. If you don't have a way to pay for e >> I don't have a way for it. I just probably don't have enough. Maybe some bill came out. Maybe something came off my car or maybe I didn't unlock my car. I just didn't realize it that I didn't that it declined. Okay. >> Because when I pulled my card out, it said approved on the small screen and I just said, "Okay." I put my code in. >> I mean, it it says declined. >> It didn't say card approved or nothing. It just said approved. Understand where I thought that it went through. >> I understand you're you're in a hurry, but I and and I'm following what you're saying, but without the capability of paying for this and ringing >> I do have I'll have my aunt pay for it. But I'm I'm saying you didn't have the capability of doing it. >> But if it declined, why would I try it again? If I know that those two are going to decline, you said I didn't realize that the first time it declined. My first round declined. Yes. Then I went to another card. >> Mhm. >> That I know has the money on it. >> Right. >> That declined. Why would I try another declined payment when I can go to my aunt that I know for sure positively has that money? >> Okay. >> You see what I'm saying? >> I'll pay for this and we can go. >> There's no charge. There's no nothing. Please, I just have to hear my son. Please, please go and get the payment >> right now. >> The woman repeatedly asked to go to her vehicle outside so she could get money to pay. But when officers searched the area, they couldn't find any vehicle matching her description. This made the situation even more serious. >> So, here's the the deal is >> still out there. >> There's an officer out there looking. I walked around. There's no there's no white Chevy Tahoe with somebody still inside of it. >> Oh my god. So they've left me here >> and I don't even have a phone call anybody. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> Yes. >> For what? >> But it's been a long time. >> For what? >> Um for possession with intent to deliver. I was like 18, 17 years old. >> And then um last year for a burglary. >> Last year for a burglary. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I I told him I was honest with him like, "Yeah, I used to boost." I was like, "But I put I don't and I had a son, you know, I changed my life around." >> What? And aside from the air mattress, it's all grocery items. >> It's shampoo because I didn't bring shampoo when we came over to visit. >> Okay. >> Food. Food. >> Food. >> Perfume. >> Body spray. But they're cheap. They're like there's like buy three, get one, get one free. >> Okay. >> So, they're cheap, you know. And then there's um we needed an air mattress because the air mattress we were sleeping on last night went down to the floor and it won't hold air. >> Where you guys staying at? >> There was a cheap $36 air mattress. >> Okay, >> please. I swear I was not trying to steal nothing. >> I really wasn't. I wasn't trying to steal that. >> Okay, >> I can't I can't afford to catch no charges and none of that right now. >> I'm trying to be reasonable with you. We're trying to We're trying. Looking at the situation again, the woman had no ID, one declined card, no phone, no way to pay, and a vague story about the vehicle. It seemed like she was scrambling for excuses after being caught. Yet, instead of showing shame, she continued playing the victim and begging the store not to prosecute. >> So, we're at an impass. Um, you don't have an ability to pay for it. You walked out the store with the last point of sale. There is. I can prove intent. So, we're >> they have to arrest me. >> Write me some kind of war. If they want to prosecute, then I have to arrest you. >> Please, sir. Please, please, please, please have a heart today. Please. I really did not try to steal from you. >> Please. I cannot. >> Please. I was cooperative if I came back in and everything. Please. >> They left. You said, >> "Please, sir, have a heart. Please." >> And I would have, if I really done it like on purpose off the decline, knowing that it declined, why would I try a second form of payment? Just think about it. Think about it. >> That's your why. time. The first time you declined, right? If I was going to just planning on stealing, I would have walked out on the first decline, >> right? Why would I try a whole another second form? >> Understand? That's why that's why I was reasonable. >> I really was not. >> Which name? >> Miranda. >> Miranda. Understand? That's why I was trying to be reasonable with you. Okay. I was trying to find You said you had another form of payment. I was trying to find your other form of payment. It's not here. >> Please, sir. Please don't. I scanned everything. Everything is scanned. >> Please. Please, I'm begging you. Please don't do this to me. Please. I did not try to steal nothing. I swear to God. And if I can get a hold of my aunt, I will have her come say, "Can I give you my name, my address, my everything?" Listen, if I don't come back within the next 24 hours, I will come and pay for this. I will come and pay for this. Please, I didn't try to steal your stuff. Please, I didn't try to steal. Please. Please. I'm a food, baby. Please. My understanding is prosecute. Okay. >> Her please proved useless as the store still chose to prosecute and officers then placed her under arrest. >> You're under arrest. Okay. >> Oh my god. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> I got it. >> Oh my god. >> Both of these bags are right and the hat. >> Yes. >> There's no like in what do you call that? Like a notice to appear that you can write for me. >> Yep. Yep. That's We're going to have We have to take you back because it's the felony amount. I have to contact the states attorney >> and then I have to get We're going to It's going to be an NTA because it's not attainable, >> but I have to take you back to the States. >> You get processed. >> You're going to get processed. Yeah. >> When do I got to go to court? >> We'll we'll figure that out when we get back at the state. >> Do I have to stay all night at jail? >> No. No, no. >> You don't have anything on you. I'm just going to check and make sure you don't have pockets. Okay. >> Okay. I'm going to try to call my aunt somebody or can you call my baby daddy, please, and let me get back to the station. Let me get back to the station. You're you're going to get three phone calls. Okay. Do you know their numbers? >> I know his number. >> Okay. When we get back to the station, you're allowed three phone calls. So, we'll get back to the station. >> Okay. I'll follow. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I I can do that, too. I know. In the end, the woman was charged with class 3 felony retail theft and released with a notice to appear. [snorts] Her next court date was scheduled for the 1st of October, 2026, and she had not been convicted or sentenced. [snorts] Excuses may not erase the consequences of a failed payment and leaving a store with unpaid merchandise. When the facts don't add up, pleading for another chance may not change what happens next. Even more shocking, one shoplifting incident led her to admit to several other offenses. You can't do that. >> I'm going to pay. I have money. I own >> You can't conceal in your bag. >> Okay. Well, can I pay for it? I won't. >> No. Trespass. >> So, this is fentanyl. >> Yes. >> This is $200. >> Yeah. >> On the 4th of May, 2026, officers approached a woman who was shopping at Target. There was little to say after loss prevention caught her concealing items in her bag. Yet, when confronted by the officer, she had an excuse for her actions. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> They're going to trespass you. You've been concealing items in your bag. You can't do that. >> I'm going to pay. I have money. I got you. >> You can't concealer in your bag. >> Okay. Well, can I pay for it? I won't >> trespass. And you have our slippers on, too. >> No, I came in with these. I came in with I promise you check it. I promise. >> Those are obvious. >> I came >> I watched you put them on from the rack and toys. >> So, now Okay, take what? >> Take it. It's fine. It's fine. I don't I don't want trouble. >> No, no. We'll play this. >> It's fine. I'll put my my shoes on that I brought with me here. Literally brought with me. >> Okay, hold on. >> What? >> Listen to me for a second. >> I just want to pay and I want to go in. I'm sorry. I won't do that again. >> Okay. You either listen to me or I'll take your ass to jail. How about that? Cool. So, you sit up. So, sit. >> Stop moving. Listen. >> Would a reasonable person come in, take some other person's shoes on, stow the shoes they came in with underneath? No. Okay. So, some I've done this for seven years. That's This is all They're going to trespass you. You're not going to go to jail and we'll be done with this. >> Okay, >> cool. Let's do that. >> I'm sorry. Can I get this stuff back? >> Can we bring them into the We're going to just So, >> let's grab all No, we're not going to do it right here. We're going to bring it all back. Stop taking it out. >> I'm going to take myself out. You're not. >> Put it back in. >> We're going to bring it back to the office and you're not going to go to jail. Or we can do it my way. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> Cool. Then shut up and we'll take it back. How about that? >> The woman was then taken to the loss prevention office where the employees appeared certain about what she had done as they pointed out each stolen item she had taken. >> All the markers. [laughter] No, I watched you take them all out. >> I did not take >> I watched you take out. [laughter] >> So, you want all my markers? Even the ones that are mine? >> No, I need my markers. You know which ones are my markers? >> I didn't I put all the bags. I put all my >> But I have not just those mine. These ones, too. I just >> The ones you just grabbed, those are all >> Okay. But the ones that you grabbed, the colorful ones, those are ours. You grab three packs. >> Actually, I didn't grab any packs. I I said that. But you know what? >> The call that we got listed that you had all these markers already concealed in your [ __ ] That was a several minutes ago. So, I knew you had stolen markers before I even showed up. >> Stop trying to act like they're stealing your >> I'm not I'm not going to say this [ __ ] I thought I did them wrong. >> You have 700 brand new markers in your >> Well, I do have I do have markers in here. I literally do have three. >> I don't give a [ __ ] about the markers you have. I care about all the ones that you just tried to take that's theirs. Clearly >> I don't even >> I will say in the future it is so much easier if we don't do this I just take her to jail. >> Okay. >> So much easier. >> Am I able to prosecute or just stay? >> But it didn't stop there. The woman had every reason to fear going to jail as officers noticed something suspicious when she repeatedly struggled to provide her identity. >> If when so we we've already done this game a thousand times. Are you going to give me a fake name? >> Okay, the first thing there's too much there's just too much gray area when they're concealing in this store. Like, well, they might be paying, you know. >> Go ahead. >> I was just going to say the phone. >> What's your What's your last name? >> B. >> You know, it's a separate charge if you lie to us. >> I just hope I have warrant and everything. >> What is your What is your middle name? >> Social 533. >> No, no, no. Don't say that. >> Okay. just nobody ever should ask you for that. >> I'm telling you that I can tell you ahead of time, you know, because >> remember audio video recording. No one wants >> I know you're social when you know you probably let you know. I'm not going to lie. I lie to you, but I'm telling you already, you know. >> Okay. What's your What's your warrant for? >> It's a vehicle. It was a CC cap. I went to I went to the hospital and um I was check cap and and I didn't because I was in the hospital, but I haven't taken care because I have I have a daughter at home. So, >> like I said, I was just going to trespass. I know, but I don't know. >> How did you get here? >> I walked. >> No, I know the stolen vehicle. >> No, no, no. My mom walked. I I don't know her anymore. I literally walk. I didn't walk. >> And if you knew you had this warm, why aren't you taking care of her? >> Because I have a two and a twoy old daughter and I try to get her old enough to mean she's good. And then I throw myself in. >> You had a 2-year-old daughter and you decided to come here and try to steal. Very stupid. I know. I know. >> Very stupid. >> Okay. So 3 years you can't come back to this address otherwise you're going to get arrested for trespassing. So you do have the warrant. Uh not ready to go. >> Nope. You're not free to go. >> So we're going to give you we're going to give it 10 minutes. If they don't want you, great. If we don't hear back from them, great. Did he want you? Then you know the consequences. >> Um we're going to just go wait out by my car cuz I'm sick of waiting here. >> Hey, make it very clear. We're walking out with you. You're going to sit on the bumper one of our cars to try to run. We're just going to [laughter] >> I'm not going to run. >> Okay. Just want to make sure clear. Ask for it if you do. >> No way. I made sure made sure. >> The woman seemed to accept the arrest, even willingly walking toward the officer's vehicle, but it appeared she was mainly trying to avoid the embarrassment of being handcuffed in front of other [music] shoppers. >> Hold on. I don't want to run. >> This guy's super fast. >> Yeah. And I'm not very fast. I'm probably >> copy. Go ahead and put both hands up here for me. >> I'm not going to go anywhere. Ow. Okay, I'm not going to go. >> Where did those come from? >> What? >> Why are you turning towards me? >> I just wonder why he's grabbing me. Like, >> you're under arrest. They want you. >> Okay, that's fine. >> I don't You didn't freak out. >> If anyone's freaking out, it's you. How else am I supposed to >> I told you that I wasn't going to run? >> I know, but you still got to be in handcuffs when you're under arrest. >> Yeah. >> All right, let's keep going. >> All right. Okay. Okay. Please don't grab me. Like, I'm >> This is just how I'm supposed to escort you. Okay. Wait, so here's Can you just kind of just grab a couple numbers? My friend's over there. Can I get his number, too? >> I knew your friend was here. That's why you're trying to get the phone call the whole damn time. Uh-huh. >> Jeff, I'm going to grab your number. >> Jeff, you better not have warrants. >> No, you did. >> No, I'm backing my hand checking underneath your bra. >> Okay. Well, this is really evasive. Like, I should have told you guys I didn't have a bra on. I mean, I said bra. You guys could have like >> You have a coat with a bunch of pockets. So, I'm going to check inside and out. You go. Hold on a minute. >> No, it's okay. Actually, I have it written down. I just realized. >> Yeah, you're good. I'm sorry. I just realized I have >> She was quickly escorted into the patrol car, but the surprises didn't end there. She admitted she still had something in her wallet, pushing the situation to an even more serious level. >> All right, this is your chance. Is there anything on your purse that I haven't found? >> Yes, I have drugs in my purse. >> In your purse? >> Yes. >> Okay. Is there anything on your person? >> No. >> That I haven't found that I would find. >> What are you going to have in your purse? >> Um, in my purse. >> Okay. Are you >> Am I getting it poked with anything? >> No. No. There's paraphernalia. And there's >> Where what is the fentanyl in? >> Um I want to say it's in my wallet in the center thing. >> How much are we talking? >> Like like I picked up like two $200 worth. >> $200 worth? >> Yeah. I I have I have a I have a high >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> No. No. You going to press charges? >> No. No. No. No. >> Yeah. Cuz you press on me cuz I'm I'm telling you the truth. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Um, can you just um put it in my bra so that way when I get there? >> I'm scared that I'm like I'm not going to [laughter] give it. Okay. Okay. In my pocket. In my pocket. In my pocket. >> Nothing stays on your purse. It goes with you though. >> Yeah. I'll give it to you at the >> Because then my purse and see how big my purse is. >> No, no, no. We will make sure this is separate from your purse. >> All right. So, you said there's a wallet in here. >> Mhm. >> And that's where the fentanyl is. >> I think so. Yeah. Does $200 worth? Correct. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> What does $200 worth look like? Like a little bit or a lot of it? >> No. I mean, no, it's like it's a couple grand. >> It's your purse. Your wallet. Sorry. >> Wallet. >> Oh my [ __ ] Mine's my friend's ID. Can you make sure she gets it back? In my in my car. She And she called me asking, "Can you please make sure that I get my ID back?" Literally. >> Well, this ain't going with you. >> Well, I'm saying can you send it to her address, so she gets it back. That's all I'm asking. >> Is there going to be drugs in here? >> Oh, butane. Yeah. That's it. >> Yeah. >> So, this is fentanyl. >> Yeah. >> This is $200. >> Yeah. >> You spent $200 on this? >> Yeah. >> Instead of taking 50 bucks and buying what you need for you and your 2-year-old. >> Well, first of all, I have a heavy I do almost almost tea a day. >> The woman was criminally trespassed from Target, booked on an active warrant, and additionally charged with drug possession before being released. One bad decision can quickly turn a simple shoplifting incident into much more serious consequences. [music] Trying to hide the truth only made the situation worse when officers discovered the warrant and [music] drugs. Worse, these girls seem to use their lawyer father's knowledge of the law to mislead the deputy. >> So, I tried to warn you before. >> You gave me a long day of birth, >> right? You you'll probably be able to pick them up tonight or in the morning. >> Okay. >> Um you'll know you know where they're going. On the 11th of August 2026, deputies received a call from Target after two women were caught shoplifting and detained in the loss prevention office. When they arrived, store employees had already uncovered some troubling details about the two suspects. >> Shopping for like this. >> So, shoplifting both uh slippers going to be one from the right. Her name is Shanaya. And then these like you know little HBA products going to be for on the left hand name is Jayla. Both say they're 17 sisters no identification and then they are repeats two nights ago. >> Well just one. >> Okay on both. >> All right. >> Parents on parents on the way or mom? >> Uh okay. I guess I'll be able to talk to the parents then. >> Okay. I'm going meet y'all's first and last names if you don't mind. >> Are you wearing >> Do you have any ID? >> We have just cards like like have like cards. >> How old are you? >> 17. >> How old are you? >> Y'all are sisters. >> We're y'all look like twins to me. >> We're not We're not twins. We're not twins. We have different We have different >> Okay. Well, because they want to prosecute, y'all are going to be placed on arrest for shoplifting at this Target. Okay. >> Yes. >> All right. And you're going to be you want to tres trespass him right now? >> Yeah. You want to do a video or >> I'm recording? >> Okay. Uh, so as I explained earlier, you guys both will be trespassed from this location for 1 year. Um, August 11, 2027 is when you can come back to this target. Within that year, if you guys are seen on this property, I have to call police and you guys will be arrested for uh trespass. I got a job. >> No. >> Where do you work at? >> Um, I work at >> Both were identified as 17 years old and therefore not old enough to be held legally responsible as adults. So, the deputies began calling their parents to have a guardian present. In the meantime, the deputies also looked into additional information to make sure their ages were accurate. >> Senior, freshman, junior. you. >> Yeah. >> What's your GPA? >> 3.8. >> 3.2. >> 3.8 or 3.2. Y'all way too smart to be doing this. >> Well, mine was accidental. Like, it literally was accident. >> You don't accidentally walk out of Target with your [ __ ] Respect. >> No, it was like I have the slippers. Okay. Yeah, I get it. >> All right. Are you Oh, okay. So, the school you just started, right? What college you want to go to? >> Uh, Tennessee State. >> Out of state, huh? What school do you want to go to? >> You know, I don't think BR futures cover out of state tuition. >> No, it doesn't. >> Only Florida. >> Y'all athletes or something? >> No. Dance. >> Dance. Not really. But >> you know this ain't going to look good on college applications. Y'all know that, right? >> [clears throat] >> I hate to arrest kids with their whole future ahead of them, but y'all really ain't let us no choice. Come on. Both girls had bright futures ahead. Yet, they were putting that future at risk by adding a dark mark to their records. Meanwhile, someone claiming to be their guardian arrived, quickly exposing more lies. >> Since mom's out of town, I hope that won't be issue. So, what's your relation to them? Um, that's my niece and that's my that's her friend. >> Are they related? >> No. >> H Why'd y'all lie to me? >> They going to find out anyway. >> So, who's who's your niece? >> This is my niece. >> The phone? >> Yes. >> All right. >> They're going to find out. >> Who's your mom? Where your parents at? Mhm. >> Do you have a phone number >> for my mom's? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Do you have a phone number? >> Oh, yeah. >> What's your mom's name? >> When you go to the jack, they're not going to release you to >> to a friend. They will release it to your parents or guardian, but you don't need to be honest so that you don't have to spend a lot of time there. I don't think you going want to spend a lot of time there unless you like being in jail. I'm going to text you this number. If you could uh call on me, please. I don't have my uh this right. >> All right. Things became even more serious when the deputy called the school they claimed to attend only to find neither girl was listed there. Yet even after being exposed, the girls showed no shame. >> Is this the [ __ ] >> Is that your real name? They're saying you don't go that. >> She don't go to Sun Coast no more. She graduated. >> All right. She her dad just told me that she graduated. >> Stop. Stop. >> All right. Now >> now is the time for you to tell me before I waste these people's time. Did you graduate too? >> You graduated also. >> What's your dad? >> Uh this one? >> Yeah. >> High school. >> Yeah. >> It don't matter when they take that fingerprint. All that crazy [ __ ] They going to get you. I don't know what you >> She's still in 2009. >> 113 07. >> Why' you lie about your damn birth, man? >> You know this is all crimes, right? This is like the TV show. This this the stuff they was stealing. >> Yeah. So Bernie Hoodie, she stole this. And then the other one, right, she stole this. >> But like I said, she was this what she she took similar items the other night. >> Come on, man. [snorts] >> I I [ __ ] >> What's your number? So, I tried to warn you before I started. >> You gave me a wrong date of birth. All right. That's identifiable information. You know something to charge, right? >> Okay. >> So, >> Oh, wait. You're not driven out. >> No. >> Oh, you going >> you going to the big big girl jail? >> Yeah. Okay, >> that place sucked even more. >> And what's your date, bro? >> 08. >> Yeah. 087. >> Why would you lie about that, though? >> Their repeated lies left little room for leniency. And even when one girl's father arrived pleading for a break, the deputy refused to change the outcome. >> If I am to purchase these shoes times two, uh, would Target be interested in not calling charges? >> We can't. to start a policy because they're repeat offenders that we we have to prosecute. >> What was the what was the other >> two days ago? >> Two Yeah, two nights ago. >> What was that? What happened two nights ago? >> Uh same thing. So, basically, they go to stuff check out and just pay for some stuff, pay for other stuff. >> How much is the uh outside of these shoes, what was the other merchandise worth? Uh um we saw that at the register and then again when they exit the store also flash for un unpaid for merchandise. >> Do we know that they knew it was unpaid for at the time? >> How do we know they knew >> the the video? They clearly didn't scan it properly scanning it. And this is through self check on not the register. So this is them actively scanning their own their own items. Didn't scan those items. Yeah. Like I said, like um like I explained to officers, like I'm not going to follow two random girls that come to Target. >> I understand. Yeah. And I I understand. I'm just wondering if perhaps this could be a mishap or misunderstanding is Yeah. >> Uh you as opposed I was >> as opposed to jail. Can we issue a notice to appear? >> That's up to the officer's discretion. And um I I'm not going to do that, boss. >> Surprisingly, it raised questions about how they knew being under 17 could help them avoid the law despite this reportedly being their first offense. It later emerged that several family members were in law enforcement, as their father admitted. >> My dad, my grandfather, law enforcement. Mhm. >> I'm a her grandmother, law enforcement. >> Mhm. >> I'm a lawyer. Um, I don't want you to think that, oh, I don't understand the reality of the situation. These are two girls on their way to college. >> Mhm. >> Cleveland seemed to have made >> a mistake. >> A dumbass mistake. >> Mhm. >> Uh, if at all, you can extend the courtesy of issuing a notice to a peer. I assure you, I will make sure that they're taken care of, especially mine. >> Okay. >> So, so that type of thing, like I said, you know how that you're a lawyer. >> That's a discretion thing. >> You know, when if I have suspects that are compliant and cooperative and honest, >> that's something I'm inclined to do. When I have suspects that I warn, you need to give me your proper name, your proper date of birth, so I can identify you. And they lie about their identifying information. They she earned another charge, by the way, because they both of them lied about their age, so I wasn't able to pull I thought that they were minors. >> I couldn't even find them at first. >> They lied about the uh date of birth. They lied about um the what school they go to cuz they graduated already. They lied about the guardian. They had their friend show up to try to act like she was a guardian. and they told me that they were sisters. They lied about multiple things after I warned them some of the stuff you can eat an additional charge for. So, respectfully, I appreciate you, you know, as a father showing up and stuff, which isn't even necessary cuz they're adults, but I'm not inclined to offer this type of privilege or courtesy. >> The lawyer father would now have to wait for court to see his daughter again, while the suspects showed no real remorse, only regret for being caught. This is actually the most craziest thing. >> Like the most [snorts] target, bro. All right. Good job. >> This is so like >> sad. Yes. Very sad. >> Like we're so much better than this [ __ ] >> Like I don't even know. Like >> like this is so bad for some dumb. Like mind you all that stuff our parents will die. That's dumb stuff. Merch. That's dumb [ __ ] [ __ ] oil. I got one. >> Hey, what else did I get? >> Hm. What else? I got Oh, a clock. I need that. I mean, I get it. Easy. Bigger. Mom, I'm still the baby. >> Oh, fats. It's just his turn. >> He is for sure. >> Like he just like passed up like Daddy Lord. >> In the end, both women were charged with shoplifting and providing false identification. One bad decision can become much worse when you keep lying to cover it up. Once the truth is uncovered, those lies can create consequences far beyond the original mistake. Showing no shame, this woman even denied everything captured on camera. >> Yeah, she's just dragging us at this point. This is just so unlike her. >> I paid for the Legos. >> You can't switch them. >> I didn't ticket switch anything. On March 26th, officers were dispatched to Target after receiving a report of a woman actively shoplifting. While she continued stealing, unaware that she was being watched, officers and loss prevention discovered that this was far from her first time. >> Okay. >> How you doing today? Appreciate. >> So, she's back here. >> Oh, she all the way back. Yeah, she's just dragging us at this point. This is just so unlike her. This is normally what she leaves with like carts full of stuff. So, today is odd. >> So, for sure it's the Legos set in there and then uh >> for sure cuz the Legos it's been a while. So, the [clears throat] Legos could possibly still be in there, but definitely like that book that we saw and then the other stuff that she concealed on the aisle. >> What was it? The phone case and then a water bottle. >> Yeah, whatever. Cell phone accessory. And then >> hold the frame. Let me leave the frame. >> She dumped the No, the water bottle still in her cart or she dumped it on the shelf, >> but she definitely I think concealed that book. >> Shortly after the officer was alerted that the woman had moved near the entrance. The officer immediately moved in to detain her in the back. >> What? I Where are you? >> Got in your bag. >> Walk at me. Walk at me right away. We ain't got nothingbody. falling off. Hold on a second. >> You think she was stuff in the back? Come on. >> Okay. >> Don't let us Don't let us do this. >> She She's good to go. You can go if you want to. Oh, you can wait for her. >> Please hold on a second. >> You want us to pull you in or you want us to just be >> Yes, please. Please be okay. But I didn't. >> Can you put stuff in the back? I saw what you did. >> We have it all on camera. Just come on. >> It's all on camera. >> Hold on a second. Okay. We can look at the cameras. >> Yep. But I didn't um Can you please stop? >> You want to arrest you for shoplifting? >> Sir, I didn't mean to shoplift. >> Can I show you what's in Can you look what's in the bag before we do anything? >> I'm not even No, please. >> You can't bring it back. It might be a misdemeanor. Who knows? Okay. >> 45 Charlie one. We have one white female. >> Please don't do this. Please. Could she take the cart outside >> or the airplane? >> And the cart is >> cuz the Legos are inside the cart. >> I paid for the Legos. >> You can't switch them. >> I didn't ticket switch anything. I didn't I know exactly what I put in my bag and I like I forgot it was in there. Please get >> No, you under arrest. Stop. Okay. Thank you. The officer then began investigating the incident and quickly discovered it went beyond simply concealing items in a bag. The officer also uncovered another trick that reduced a $60 item to just $9.99. >> In the shopping cart you had you saw like a like a box with Legos? >> Uh well, she just picked up the shopping cart. >> She need to pay for those. Put those. Yeah. >> So what happened is she placed saw she had a a tan bag looking >> this right here. >> Yes. Well, her receipts right here. >> So, what she did was she price switched. >> I know for one of these items, she price switched. This cost like 60 bucks. >> So, what she did was what she Yeah. She switched the price. This is her bag, right? >> That's her bag. And yeah, that's my bag. >> Yeah, those are good. >> Okay. >> Cuz this these are hers. This is only hers. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, her book bag, she placed some items in her book bag. Okay. And she have been doing this for a few time. So, she hit different different targets. She tally over like 5,000 stolen stuff right now. So they know exactly which she is. And I we observed her on camera over and over putting stuff in her bag. So that's the reason why I know this isn't, you know, was in the shopping cart cuz she price switch this volume. This Lego is at 60 bucks. But she paid only $9.99. She price switch. >> How' she do that? >> The barcode. There's a way to price switch the price, right? But give it should be a misdemeanor. Give us like 20 to 30 minutes. Okay. >> So, I'm sick. >> Yeah. That's the reason why, you know, we just arrested her a minute ago >> cuz she you're gonna let her go. >> So, if it's a misdemeanor, she will be released. If it's a felony, she's gone. 500 and over is a felony. >> Okay. So, I'm going to go take care of the paperworks and I will I will I will uh we I'll be back to you. >> Can you let me know? >> Yeah. Yeah. I will stay here. >> Yeah. Should be no more than 30 minutes. Okay. The evidence made it hard for the woman to deny what happened that day, but the earlier incidents were a different story. She began denying them, hoping to lessen her responsibility. >> Like, please, is there anything I can do? >> Unfortunately, when you pass all points of sale, then we can no longer let you render payment for the items. And especially with your egregious shoplifting history at Target, we can >> I didn't do I've never shoplifted at Target. >> Unfortunately, we know that's not true. I I honestly don't I've never even been to this target before. Never even been here. >> I think you have. >> So, right now, I know the other officers didn't have time to explain, but as of right now, you're under arrest for shoplifting. That being said, we have a female officer that's going to come over. She's going to do a search of your person. That being said, seeing as how you are under arrest, ma'am, I'm going to search this bag. >> Search back. >> Yeah, this is the one she price. You get it for $9.99. >> Yeah. >> Is there anything else other than the items that you have in there that we know you took? Anything on there? >> Yeah. All right. >> You got your ID, man? >> Yes. >> The one that I put in there. That's it. >> Obviously, the MVP is >> that was already in there as well. >> Yeah. Yeah. You know, we saw everything you did on camera, right? >> That's That's fine, sir. But I >> Can we take one of these off? I'm not going anywhere. >> I'm going to let you send that message and then get your phone. >> May I look at my text messages? >> Like I said, cuz I don't want you for any reason, God forbid, you're texting somebody, waiting for us outside or something. All right. So, you message the ladies. >> The items were returned to the store and Target decided not to pursue further charges against her. The officer then gave her a final decision. another officer. Like I said, they're in search of person. Uh right now, as of right now, after that form is signed, you're no longer allowed on the premises. If you come back on the premises, you're going to be arrested for criminal trespass. Okay. >> Are you from your bank for the property? All target, right, Gabriel? >> No, it's just this one. But if you go to Target, you're going to get arrested again. It's just going to happen. Just fair warning. Yeah. Where my release get these crazy handcuffs? All black, too. >> All right, man. Get your stuff right here. >> Are we good, Gabriel? >> Yeah, >> we're all good. Thank you. >> You're welcome. Should I tell her to go? >> Yeah, if you just want to keep following that officer. >> So, she's banned from the property. Okay. She's not allowed. If she comes back, she's going to be arrested for criminal trespass. Okay. So, if you grab your stuff if you want and I know >> your friend, we're waiting. She was waiting on you. She's over. I think she's over. >> I already told her that she fancy. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. So, >> I have to go. >> No way. That's it. You're done. You're history. >> Your history? >> No. I mean, no, you can't go back in. >> No, no. I'm talking about my last week with my friend or >> No, no, no. You can't go back. >> What was happening? >> So, you were banned. >> No, no. I was I'm not going to go back in Target. I'm asking if I could leave with my phone. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You can leave me your friend. >> Okay. With her? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> In the end, the woman was charged with shoplifting and issued a criminal trespass warning. Repeated theft can quickly turn a simple incident into a much bigger problem. Once you're caught, denying what happened won't make the evidence disappear. Next. This man thought he could simply pay after hiding the merchandise inside his pants. >> I know, but I'm I'm paying for everything. >> Why'd you put in your pants? >> Why I listen? >> You think it's normal for a person to walk into store? >> On the 9th of September 2025, officers received a report from a Walgreens about a man allegedly stealing by concealing multiple items on his person. Here's what happened when the officers approached him. here. >> Hey sir, how you doing, man? >> All right. >> Hi. Talk to me for a second. >> You got in your pants right now? >> Yeah, I'm I'm paying for it all. >> Are you paying for it? >> I'm paying for everything. >> Is it in your pants right now? >> Yes. >> Hey, Kyle. This right here. >> I'm paying for everything. So, >> okay. >> All right. Do me a favor. >> Yes, sir. >> Let's take it out of your pants. >> Okay. We'll do it for you. >> Okay. I'm paying I'm paying for everything. In-law will use your cart to pay for things. >> I know, but I couldn't car. I'm paying for every everything that I have. >> What do you got? >> You have a key to open up cases. >> What's that? >> You want to go through your pockets? You good with that? >> Are they in your pants or where they at? >> What's that? >> I'll pay for it was likely just an excuse he came up with after being caught. Showing no remorse, he continued pulling item after item from inside his pants. Yeah, I'm paying for everything. >> That's why. [snorts] >> Come on, man. You got >> I know, but I'm I'm paying for everything. >> Why would you put in your pants? >> No, we're not doing this. >> I'm paying for everything, though. >> So, concealment is an element of death. >> I'm not I'm not stealing it, though. That's what I'm trying to tell you. I have the cash for it. >> I wouldn't steal it. >> You think it's normal to have stuff all the way down your pant, >> but once I go to the register and I pull it out, I mean, >> yeah, >> I mean, that's not how that works, right? [laughter] >> All right. >> G. [snorts] I don't understand why I can get in trouble for it cuz I'm paying for it. >> This is concealment, brother. >> But I'm paying for it. >> Concealing an item. >> That's not in your pants. >> I'm not an element of >> How is that a fact? I got I haven't even left the store. Told you I'm paying for everything. I don't understand. >> Let's just drop Let's just take these out. >> Yeah, that's fine. I told you I came for every wasn't going to leave with it. See if I was leaving it. >> I'm not. >> Just go and take two pairs of pants. They're all gone. All right. Got it all. Clearly, he was wearing two pairs of pants, making it easier to conceal the merchandise. This only further suggested that stealing was his original intention. Yet, he still desperately tried to convince the officers otherwise. >> Yeah, I would I wouldn't steal a [ __ ] I'm not >> Oh, man. That is it though. >> That's what I'm trying to tell you. I got the cash for it. >> Okay. Well, you're going in handcuffs. >> Oh my god. >> That's crazy, man. >> Stupid things. >> Were you here with anyone else by yourself? >> A car waiting on you outside, >> huh? >> How'd you get here? >> When's the last time you brother? >> Coming down right now. trying to get a fix or what? >> No, sir. You >> got anything in your car? >> For it. I don't I got When's >> the last time you used? >> I a couple days ago. >> Okay. Meth drug toys. >> No. >> What do you use? >> It's not illegal to be high. >> I know. I'm not high. >> What do you use? >> Okay. >> What's your name? So, heroin, right? Track. What's your name? [snorts] >> I got it. The man remained unusually calm, as if he had been through this before. He even seemed to understand the process, claiming he could simply pay before leaving, making it appear that he was no stranger to situations like this. >> I don't understand why I can understand if I left the store, but I'm paying for everything. I didn't pass >> Christopher. [snorts] >> Is anybody waiting on you? I mean, they're probably not here anymore. >> Oh, they're out there. >> Why? Listen, >> you think it's normal for a person to walk into a store, place 20 boxes of merchandise down their pants while you're pushing a cart that you could easily put those items into. No, because it >> because that's an element of theft because you're planning on stealing those items. So, stop. Just stop. Don't play. >> Okay, I've been doing this for 15 years. This ain't the first time. It ain't going to be the last. Quit acting like an idiot. >> If I didn't have the money, then I could understand that. Then I would have the intent. It's >> crazy. I paid for every single item. I was going to pull it out as soon as I came to the register. >> Yes, I was going to pull it from >> Before being taken away, he still tried to convince the officers that he should be allowed to pay for the items as if that would prove his innocence. He clearly knew what he was doing. >> I'm paying for the money. That's the thing. If I have the money, I understand that it's not your fault. If I didn't have the the if I if I didn't have the money, I could understand that. But I have now. So you use as a ploy if you can get off. >> No gas. >> No. >> It's not true. >> Where you live now? >> I'm homeless. >> You stay in the city. What? You stay on the road? >> Um, wherever I can stay in the car for now? >> What's up? >> You staying in the car for >> No. I mean, I was staying in a buddy's van, but we we got into it. Are you going to get sick on us at all right now or no? >> I'm going to jail for this. >> I'm not trying to work. I'm not trying to work this out. >> You search your car. We don't find anything in the car. >> Yes, sir. >> You search your car. We don't find anything in the car. >> In the car. >> Whatever vehicle you're in. >> I'm sure they're gone by now. >> Say, how's it name again? Brian, what's your first name? >> My name's Chris. >> Chris, it's Chris. Come with me up. Okay. Just going to have you sit in the back seat so you're not seeing around. Okay. Check it one more time. Okay. Nothing else is going to stand right now. We've been in there pretty hard. So, >> finally, Christopher Balaban was charged with felony retail theft and burglary. Having money to pay for something does not erase the consequences of concealing merchandise. What matters is the actions taken before ever reaching the register. Next, this mother would also have to be arrested in front of her own family members. >> Baby, I I brought the drinks out here in the bag of donuts and I one cup is gone out of here and one cup's gone out of Please don't understand. Come on. >> Oh my god. Today, >> on the 30th of April 2024, police were dispatched to a Dollar General after receiving a report of a theft. The suspects were reportedly acting as a group and they were all members of the same family. To get a clearer picture of what happened, let's hear the employees account when officers arrived at the scene. >> They come in here all the time. All the time. >> 664. And I was like, hm. Cuz she came to the back and started talking to me. I was like, hm. You know, she she made it look real obvious cuz she asked about a job. I was like, hm. Okay. So then I went back there to watch my camera. You wouldn't even believe what all they took. >> Not that they >> took two packs of Newport cigarettes, um, two drinks, two little drinks, a pack of donuts, and I don't know what all the kids took and like he went down the aisle. It didn't have the camera on it. >> Gotcha. >> I was like, "Oh, [ __ ] How you keep getting stuff in line and you put up stop right in the back and they come in and they >> was just unfortunately they got caught though. >> Well, good. I'm glad you let me know they got cameras. >> Do you have it on video? >> Okay. >> The employee then provided the officer with the camera footage along with more details about how the suspects appeared to know where the cameras were and tried to avoid being caught on them. I knew there was a camera there cuz you I mean we barely went by it and I was like I mean >> Oh yeah, I guess >> right here. Well, not that one. >> Yeah, there's a camera right here on >> Yeah. >> this right here that actually >> Mhm. >> Yeah. Like you got to know I would have I believe I would have tried to avoid the camera as much as possible and especially clear day. >> Yeah. Right here. >> Like four of them on us. >> Yeah. >> I I would rather take a chance with getting something out there. No, just two cents. >> Oh, >> just remember people are dumber than they look. >> I know. >> And the bad part always taught me if if you can't buy it, you don't need it. >> Exactly. >> The bad part is >> use your restaurant. >> Yes, ma'am. Was that right to the left? >> I'mma leave that. They're in awfully tough, which what really irked my suspicions was the fact that >> using the store surveillance footage, police were able to identify the suspect's license plate, which led them to a nearby home. They quickly went there to find the suspect. So, let's see how they reacted to the officer's unexpected arrival. >> So, what happened down there at Dollar General? >> At Dollar General? >> Dollar General. What all did you take from Dollar General? A drink. >> A drink and what else? >> Um, two drinks, actually. >> Two drinks. What all did you take? >> Two drinks. >> What kind What kind of drinks were they? >> A Mountain Dew and a cheap Dr. Pepper. >> And one other thing you took >> a bag of donuts. >> Okay. See? >> Where's your husband? >> My husband? He's at work. >> He's at work? >> Yes, sir. That >> the guy you were down there with? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. What? Do me a favor. Can I >> Can I Can I call him and and get him to pay it real quick, please? >> Oh, no. I'm I'm going to talk to him, too. >> Okay. >> Please don't Please don't I don't have Please don't >> Please give it to your son or something. >> Please let me call him and tell him what's going on. I I can't, sir. My kids are at home. Nobody's here with them. >> How old is your son that I just talked to? He's 14. >> 14. All right. Ask him to step out here, too. Look at you. >> Wait, wait, wait. No. >> The woman eventually admitted to the theft, but instead of accepting the consequences, she brought out the stolen items and tried to find an absurd way to change the outcome. >> Here's the stuff. >> Who? >> I don't. >> Which one of your kids was with you down there? >> I didn't We didn't have anything, sir. You can have everything. I haven't opened these at all. Well, that's not the problem. The problem is you is you're shoplifting all that and and I wouldn't have did it and I'm I needed I had nothing nothing to drink, sir. You can come in and look. >> Okay. Well, that one's been open. That one's been open. >> You can come look at We're past you paying for it. We are. >> No. Please, sir. Baby, please let me pay for this stuff. >> Would you give me Would you give me five minutes? Please let me for what? >> Please let me pay for >> for him to come down here too >> for for him to either send me the money real quick. >> We're not No, we're not. No, we'll pass that. Please don't. Please don't do this, sir. My kid didn't have anything. You can come look at my fridge. Please, baby. I I brought the drinks out here in the bag of donuts and I one cup is gone out of here and one cup's gone out of >> You wanted I wouldn't do that. Please come look at my I'm not doing that. No, >> you >> Oh my god, baby. I I don't know, but I'm so >> I don't have any clothes on. You can go like that. >> Baby, please. >> Don't go inside. Don't go inside. >> Watch. Oh, watch out. She might jump on you, you know. >> That's fair. >> She She don't bite, >> baby. >> No, she doesn't bite him. Good. >> Please. >> The officer had to reassure her children as their mother began to panic, but she kept clinging to the situation, using her children to portray herself as a victim and continue begging for forgiveness. Please don't do this, my kids. Please. >> You should You should No, no, no. You should have thought about that before you took your son down there with you. He didn't go. >> Then which kid went? >> No kids, sir. >> No kids went. So, >> what? >> No, I'm not. I'm on my knees begging him, please. >> All right. All right. I'm not going to sit here and try to go back and forth with you. >> Go ahead and hang up the phone or hand it to them. >> Can I please put some clothes on my body? >> You can go like that with that. Do not go. Do not go back. >> Let me get some shorts. Please let me put some shorts. >> You're buying different clothes anyway. >> My panties. No. Please don't. >> Come on. Come on. >> Can I please put some shorts on? >> Do not back away from me. I'll take one last baby. I got this robe on and nothing but panties. >> You can go like that. control over that. I don't know. >> Oh my god. Come on. >> Find out if they're going to take you. They're going to boo. Everybody calls me and [ __ ] I don't know. >> Baby, please come get me out. I don't I don't know what to do. >> All right. >> Are you coming? is not here. >> You go get me a pair of >> Is that Is that >> Is that one of the cigarettes from the two packs that he stole, too? >> What? No, sir. >> No. >> No cigarettes. >> You want to see it? Here. Yeah. Here, I'll show you. I'll show y'all. Don't worry. I took a video of it. That is him, right? >> You're saying you took some cigarettes? No one in this family appeared to be innocent, but at that moment, only the mother was old enough to be held responsible for her actions. Police then proceeded to place her under arrest. >> I like, "Hey, hey, hey, hey, look, look. Hey, little bit. Please, come here. >> Would you let me pay for it? Please, sir, >> unless unless they have somewhere they can go terrorizing my kids. Please don't. Come on. Oh my god, babe. I don't want to. >> Hey, give me one second. >> I don't know what to do, baby. >> Please, sir. >> I love you. >> I love you, baby. >> Do you have Do you have >> Listen, listen. Do y'all have somewhere y'all can go? >> I keep trying to find somewhere to go. I don't want to be away from you. >> If I if I will find someone to go, we will come back. >> Y'all got somewhere y'all can go. >> And I'm not going to leave until I know for a fact y'all have somebody come and get y'all. >> In the end, both parents were charged with misdemeanor shoplifting. Bringing your children into a situation like this only makes the consequences more serious for the entire family. Taking responsibility is always better than trying to use your children to escape the consequences. What do you think about cases like this? On the 25th of January 2026, officers approached a vehicle driven by a woman identified as Duran, who had allegedly pushed two carts loaded with unpaid merchandise out of Walmart before driving away. She appeared to deny everything, but what officers found inside the car told a completely different story. >> Yeah, you were. >> Let's find that ID then, Donna. I don't care. I need more than your name. I need your driver's license. >> Got a lot of merchandise in here. It's a lot of stuff in here unbagged. >> Where is your insurance at? >> Well, that's not very smart to not bring the right purse, right? >> What about this purse right here? >> Yeah. What about this purse in the back? This officer sees. >> Why don't we Why don't we look? >> Why do you have a big old empty purse? >> Even rolling down the window. Big empty purse is nicer. >> I don't know who you are. >> This whole box is >> You have tinted windows and your windows rolled up. Let's see what's in your hand then. Hand me what's in your hand. >> We'll just see what she what she took. There's a lot of loose merchandise throughout the vehicle. >> Why is all this stuff in the back not bagged up? The stuff you just got from Walmart. We're going to we're going to we're going to determine if you're good or not. >> Currently detained, ma'am. >> Give me my Give me my Give me >> You're not leaving. and turn the vehicle off. >> If you do not turn the vehicle off, I will bust this window out. >> You ain't going to bust nothing. >> Turn the vehicle off. >> I'm not going to bust nothing. I got I'm just I'm not You're not going to bust nothing. >> You ain't leaving. >> Yes, I am. >> You want to bet? >> Yes, I am. >> Try to drive off. See what happens. >> You are I don't need one. You are currently detained and that's called obstruction. >> No, I'm not. >> Yes, you are. Where'd you go to law school at? No, I'm not. >> Where'd you go to law school? >> She became visibly annoyed as officers inspected her vehicle piece by piece, showing no intention of getting out. Instead, she continued making suspicious movements inside the car. >> Cory, reaching around. Put your hands on the steering wheel. I wouldn't be in your face. I don't know what you're reaching for. >> I'm looking for my phone. >> You there? >> Yep. >> So, uh, apparently it was a whole car push out. >> Huh? >> It was a whole car push out. said all the merchandise that was stolen on the back passenger side of her vehicle. And they said uh he's Brad's getting ready to send me a photo. AP is not on right now while prevention is not on, but manager was the one that reviewed the camera and they tried to stop her and she just kept pushing past. So he's sending me a photo now cuz he's reviewing the camera. See if she's willing to get out or if we're going to have to get her out. >> Hey Joe. >> Well, she won't even roll down the window really. She rolled it down like half an inch. We want to cuz she's not going to come out. But I mean, if she does, we'll call you off, but I don't think she's going to get out. >> Yeah, we'll give her an ultimatum. >> Tell her to say, "Look, the manager who's reporting this." >> All right. Bye. >> The information coming over the radio confirmed the allegations against the woman.
