[Music] thousands of untested sexual assault evidence kits some from cases more than 20 years old have been discovered in Police Department evidence rooms across the United States today these long dormant kits will now be sent to the crime labs for testing and Analysis the PO police FS work collaboratively Statewide to create change in the testing and retention of sexual assault kits we want all survivors and all portlanders to know we care about our victims and are working on the solution we are committed to The Prompt submission of the kits in our possession to be tested and established new policies and procedures to ensure this does not occur again as a rape Survivor I am sensitive to the fact that many survivors will be upset and concerned about what the testing of their kits will mean for them I am working with the Portland Police Bureau to make sure their process for victim notification about individual kits is as thorough and supportive as possible we created The Rose Project with that commitment in mind we have highly trained victim Advocates available to talk with victims either over the phone via email or in person if you think you have an untested kit we'd like to hear from you please contact The Rose Project at 503 823 0125 or at Rose Project Portland oregon.gov I want survivors to know we do have a voice in the criminal justice system and together we are changing policy procedure and protocol for investigating sex crimes making sure it is a victim centered approach you don't have to be alone in this process please call or email The Rose Project today
