the public safety support specialist program which is a mouthful to say is commonly referred to as the ps3 program it's a fantastic program the amount of work that it takes off of the plate of an officer so that an officer can respond to a critical incident has become a force multiplier for us and what we really need is something to increase our numbers so without actual police officers to increase the numbers we're able to support that with taking away some of the work that officers normally do using our ps3s some of that work includes stolen car recovery or reporting it seems a simple thing to do it's challenging process to get through and when we're taking a police officer who could be responding to 911 calls off of the street to take a report for a stolen car it removes the safety from the community we recognize it's important work it's important that we supply that service to the community and so using the ps3s we're able to get the job done while we keep officers on the street able to respond to the 911 calls when i answer calls the response that i get is that people are actually happy that someone came to their doorstep someone answered their call someone listened to them someone was able to take a report someone's able to meet their needs and so and that's what i call service and so and that's what i call good public service i have to say 99 of my calls people are happy to see someone show up at their doorstep and and take their call and listen to them listen to whatever problem they have and and try to at least work toward getting a solution we have the time we're not in any urgency yeah like by meaning like yeah we want to hurry up because we're not going to take hours on a stolen vehicle report but it's not like an officer like they got to cut it hey we got a hot call we gotta leave we got the time we gotta we got the time we have the time to speak to the victim to get statements to do follow-up um to take a breath and be like okay i got you tell me what happened it's really just a separation of how we triage calls it's been incredibly effective what we've been able to do is use our officers trained to respond to 911 calls to respond to 911 calls while taking our ps3 specialists and having them respond as accurately to lower level property calls [Music] you
