Look, these nails. I wear these nails. This lip. I I keep moisturizer stuff on that. >> I I just spent $175 here for groceries. >> Yeah. >> And I scan everything. >> They confidently denied any wrongdoing, but they seemed to forget that their every move had been recorded. >> She puts her purse in a bag and conceals stuff inside her purse. Like, it doesn't matter. >> Their [snorts] gamble was over. They had been caught. And an arrest was now inevitable. He's lying to you. Let's stop it. >> I need two nothing. >> They're they're they're obtainment, Julie. It's 282. And much more in today's video. What happens when shoplifterss push their luck at Walmart and other stores? Let's start off gently with this case. >> I wear these nails. This lip I I keep moisturizing stuff on lip. I didn't even trying to say that I'm bad from the store. >> Puts her purse in a bag and conceals stuff into her purse. Like it doesn't matter. >> So she grabbed that pink. >> On the 15th of March 2025 at a Target store, a woman was detained in the loss prevention office on suspicion of shoplifting, but she was not willing to accept the accusation. Even when [snorts] an officer was called in, she was already prepared with excuses to defend herself. Come on, sweet. What happened? >> I never even I don't know. What am I supposed to do? My ride's outside. >> Okay, give give us like 2 minutes. What did they say? >> They said press charges for me about about something. >> How did they say they were How did they say you were scared? >> They said that I um they didn't even say I was good. They just said that I put some stuff in my purse and I already have some stuff that I bought from I just thought I was wear these nails. I wear these nails. This lip I I keep moisturizing stuff on that and they trying to say that I'm back from the store or something. >> Okay, give me two seconds. So I got to get I can't go to jail. >> Okay. >> Okay. I'm just going to play that right now. Okay. Okay. >> Um, so we don't have to worry about that. So this up here, okay, I'll just leave that here for now until I >> Would her story be convincing enough to persuade the officer? Well, every story has two sides, but it seems the store had a much clearer account of what happened, especially with evidence to back it up. >> Um, >> h your camera. >> Yeah, my camera. Why wouldn't I? >> Um, so she was >> she's 18. >> Really? >> I'll just I'll just I'll show it to you. I don't think anyone can focus, right? >> Look, I got the math right here. >> No, she don't turn 18 till May. >> So, I was right. [clears throat] >> Close enough. >> And she puts her purse in a bag and conceals stuff into her purse. Like, it doesn't matter. So she grabbed that pink purse, put in a cart, put her purse inside the cart, I mean inside the other purse, and then start putting other stuff inside the stolen purse. >> Boom. >> Yes. >> 1910. >> And that bag is $90. >> What are you just got out of work? >> Yes, I just got off. >> Worked at >> I work at Aelia. >> Oh. Oh, yeah. Okay. >> I like the little porch. Yeah, but it's just well depending on how old are you. So you're turning you're like 17. >> The woman admitted that she was still under 18, which could be an important factor in how her case was handled. Perhaps she knew that because even as the officer confirmed the evidence against her, she showed little to no remorse. >> If there is some sort of if they have camera footage and all that stuff and did obviously do something silly, just obviously try not to do it again. Don't get into the habit of doing that cuz eventually it catches up. >> So, um, >> thank you for being so patient and kind and talking to me cuz I would I would >> I know when whenever we walk in there, people get all worked up. >> Yeah, >> it's not the craziest. It is, >> which makes people like, okay, we have to detain you now cuz you're doing a lot. It makes people >> technically you're being detained, but you're not in handcuffs. You don't need to be anything else to be detained if that makes sense. >> I understand. >> Yeah. This is easier to do than to go in there all >> right >> being mean and just accusatory. Everyone's got their own side of things. >> So, I know your ride's waiting for you, but it will just be just a few more processes. >> Oh, okay. >> What's um What's the current address for you? Okay. For where you get mail. >> How much was it? $166. I put the total amount. >> I trust them. >> I feel like she has to be with all these transactions. $120. >> Y'all want the items? >> That just helps. >> Y'all want stuff back. >> If she's got more. Yeah. >> Yes. if she has more. >> Additionally, some items had reportedly not been returned to the store, prompting employees to ask for further clarification about those products. >> All right, so what are what is it that we're >> We're just going to scan them. She got a bunch of items in there. She says from a different store and they register RPOS in our >> No, there's two two items that were that she said were in there. >> That one, >> right? >> Yeah. Just need it to focus. >> Okay, that's ours. >> Okay, that's ours, too. >> Is there anything else that you have? >> No, I don't want you to see as long as the other stuff. What else would have been total that they Cuz they're saying there was $100 worth of stuff. >> $100? Like what else could be $100 worth of stuff? All that was some fa not fake stuff. It was a lip balm and I don't even know what else. It's like a lip balm or something else. >> And that stuff that was in the purse. >> Mhm. >> That's what they stopped you for. >> Mhm. But how could that be over $100? Like what? Come on. >> I got you. I'll look. We get a receipt of what it is. Okay. [clears throat] >> I got you. Doesn't matter. Regardless of the total, if it's not over $500, which it's not, >> it's just a misdemeanor. No matter what, you could steal a dollar bag of chips and it's still the same charges if you stole $499 worth. >> Since this was her first shoplifting offense, the officer explained how the case would be handled. But interestingly, she seemed embarrassed when others could overhear the details of what she had done. >> All right. I got to read them. Okay. >> Okay. Don't read it loud. >> Where did the other officer go? >> I'm going to go get some papers from you cuz I don't want to do it outside and all that. >> Okay, I'll read it quietly. >> Okay, so right here says you're you're hereby giving notice you're not authorized. >> Hold on. >> Hello, sweetie. >> I'm reading the B form now. Get signed so they can go ahead and make so go ahead and make a copy. >> Okay, I'm coming. >> All right, so this is B form. Um you're here everybody given notice you are not authorized to be enter on the property below this uh target 1907s Victory Drive. This demand is given regardless of whether you are a guest or friend of a resident or employee of said property. You're hereby instructed to leave said property and not return. If you're found on sale property, you will be charged with criminal trespass ocga 16721. Uh so this ban is effect permanently. So you can never come back to this target. All right. >> All right. So you got to wait right here. He going to come back in and bring some more paperwork. Okay. >> In the end, the woman was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting. A first [snorts] offense may seem like a minor mistake [music], but it can still carry legal consequences. Being young or having no criminal history may affect how a case is handled [music], but neither makes theft acceptable. Taking responsibility early is far better than making excuses when the evidence is already there. Next, not just one, but three women were suspected of shoplifting. >> What if I'm going to do those? >> Put her in custody. >> What? Yeah, I'm pissed off. I ain't gonna lie. I'm highly pissed. You're correct. You're very correct. I on my phone. >> On the 17th of December, 2024 at Dick's sporting goods, security staff discovered that three women had allegedly attempted to steal from the store, even making their way to their car before officers stopped them in the parking lot. However [music], it seemed that getting them to cooperate would not be easy. >> What's up, guys? Hey, the business call. Were you guys trying to take something or something like that? >> We were just looking around. We weren't trying to take nothing cuz we black so we we have no idea. >> Cuz we black so that's why we trying to steal. >> I don't think it has anything to do with race. I think it's because they get stuff stolen every night and >> we don't steal, baby. We work good jobs. >> For some reason they thought you guys were stealing. So >> well someone don't get they don't get paid for thinking they got to get paid for knowing, you know. >> Okay. You guys have your IDs on your ID real quick and I'll get you out of here. >> For what? We not being over. >> What do you mean? So I don't >> You just walked out. >> No, you did not. >> Well, three of you walked out. >> Don't lie. Get >> I saw three. Are there three of you in here? Cuz there were three girls that just walked out the store that I saw with my own eyes. >> Don't ask me. >> What do we need our identification for? >> Because they called us. So, I'm making contact with you to make sure we're good. And then I'm going to check with them and then we'll get you guys out of here. >> You don't need to check them for what? >> Yeah. Were you honking? >> Huh? >> You can get my ID cuz this >> Okay, that's all I'm going to do. But I'm having an officer check with the manager to make sure we're good. And then I'm trying to get your IDs and make sure everything's good and then you guys will get out of here. It's all I'm trying to do. I'm not trying to make this more difficult than it needs to be. >> I don't even have my ID on my wife. You You >> can I just get your name? Yes, that works good, too. >> Yeah. Can I get your name? >> She wasn't there. It was just us three. >> Okay. The three of you that were in the store, can I get your ID to make it easy? >> I told you that could >> I can't see. >> I don't have no ID. >> Okay. Can I get your names? Can you roll this window down so I can at least see you? >> Meanwhile, the store employees also explained what had happened from the store's perspective. However, one detail complicated the case. No merchandise had actually been taken. >> Hi. So, guys, >> uh the three females that left right when we came in, they were just in the middle of the store, telltale sign, they grab bags, start loading up Stanley's. Uh they we had like all of us start to help them. And then I started calling the non-emergency number and they definitely noticed. I think they put everything through down and left. >> When they left, nothing went off and I didn't see any bulky stuff in their coach. >> Yeah, I have another officer talking to the three females right there. So, um, nothing was taken or not that I saw. >> No, we didn't see anything concealed. It did not go off when they left. >> Okay. >> So, it was definitely in the bags. Oh, they were they were for sure going to >> they kept saying that >> 010 ask them if they need help. >> That's just howative procedures asking literally any you see someone shopping you ask them if they need help. >> Yeah. >> If they feel harassed they're definitely trying to do something. So >> Okay. All right then. So as of right now you guys >> or three of them left. Correct. >> Well the officers with them. Um but nothing was taken from out the store. The sensor didn't leave. You guys didn't see any concealment or anything? >> No. After they were >> No. You dropped everything. They were shielding me. >> What? What were they grabbing? Stanley cups. >> It was those bo those bags right there. There's a section of them in the middle of the store and all they grab them and start loading Stanley cups in it. Okay. >> And you know if there's three or four of them doing it with four bags. >> That's like $500 $600. So >> all right then. All right then. I'll be right back. Okay. Returning to the suspects, officers discovered that one of the three women had an outstanding warrant, making the situation even more serious. >> Watch your feet. >> That's negative. I'm still trying to mess with him. >> Hello. >> Open the window. You got a warrant. You're under arrest. >> Who? >> You. You. >> Get out of the car. >> I got a warrant. Miss court date. Step out. >> What? Who? We'll >> put you in cuffs and we'll explain it. >> My name is I guess my ID right now. >> Going to jail for lying about your >> step out of the car or we're going to take you to jail right now. not go to jail. >> Okay, then get out of the car. >> I cannot I I do not have a warrant. >> Okay, I'm going to ask you again to step out. >> Can you please get my real name? >> Okay, I will. What's your real name? >> My ID over here. >> Where? Where's your ID at? >> On the side. >> Where? >> This is my real name. >> What? Pull her out. >> I'm going to jail for >> She's under arrest. >> Why is I'm going to jail? Okay. Okay. Let me just give my ID. >> What if I'm going to jail for those? >> Put her in custody. >> What? >> No. >> Yep. >> Why? Oh, I'll get for your name. >> Where did you put your ID? >> Can I get my Okay. Can I get my phone at least? But when I do, I'm going to get >> Yeah, you'll be able to get your phone. >> I'm going to get out of stuff, right? >> Right here. >> Well, you what? >> I'm going to get out. >> You'll have to see a judge in the morning. >> A judge in the morning. >> Oh my. I cannot I have my kids. They have school. I cannot do this. >> I cannot do this. >> I just put her right there. >> My kids have school and stuff. I cannot, you know, judge in the morning. Did you give your real name? >> Yo, >> it seems all too familiar. Was I have kids? Just another excuse to avoid the consequences. Meanwhile, another woman grew increasingly frustrated, acting as though her civil rights were being violated. >> You got your ID? >> No. What? First of all, sir, you need to ask your officers what's going on. I didn't go in the store, >> so I don't They asked for their information. So, no need for you to come at me aggressive. No, none of that. I'm not aggressive. They asked for information. It was already given. He came right here. I told him he thought it was me. I told him no. What's going on? >> He came over here. I don't know what's going on. >> But when I when when an officer stopped you and he asked you to step out of the car. >> He never First of all, he you can run body cam back, sir. We not going to lie to you. He never asked. >> So, what's going on? >> Nobody. He came. First of all, he came. >> You know what? Hang on. Why don't you step out for me? >> Why do I have to? cuz I asked you to. >> We'll have her 95, but she's saying she lied about her name. So, she'll be 95 for obstructing. We'll have her real name here in a moment. >> So, come on. >> What What is going on? >> I'd rather talk to you away from everybody else. >> Okay. I don't know. >> Seems like you got the sense of the group. >> Okay. I don't know what's going on. I'm not going to lie. We was at my house kicking it, smoking it. They wanted to go to some stores because our pores later and I took them to the stores. You can ask the officer. I was in the car the whole time. He said that three of you guys just walked out. I said that it wasn't me that walked out. And he said, "Is it three in the back?" >> And I don't think anyone's accusing you of stealing anything, right? Did somebody take something? >> No. No. You could check the car, sir. We can give y'all permission. Nobody ever took nothing. >> Okay. >> It was never in the car. >> And we don't want anybody in trouble. It doesn't have to be. Right. >> I said the issue with Who's this? Your cousin? >> This is my cousin. >> So, okay. Here's the issue with that one. >> This is a 95. She's on Indiana. Yeah, >> she she gave a false name or a real name. I don't know. >> Did you give your real name to him? >> I never He said that he didn't need my name because I didn't step inside the store. So, I never gave him my name. >> Okay. Um would you give us your name? >> I don't know. He said that they got a call about somebody in the store, but she can't go to jail. She got to get home to her kids. She gave out the wrong name. >> Well, you know, you you can't to give it out the wrong >> I know, but she got it like, "Can y'all please get a break?" You never took nothing. I don't know what went on inside of >> the woman in blue, who was the driver, denied any involvement in the incident. However, she still had a secret to hide, which prompted the officer to question her again later. >> You ain't going to believe this. >> You got a warrant. >> For what? >> I don't know yet. Did you know that already? >> I know I went to court. I got court February. >> Why you paying me? Why >> I didn't know I got a court? What is this? >> I even let you sit back in the car. >> I don't know what >> here. Don't go back in there. >> You're making me look foolish. I don't want to do that. Right. >> All right. Did you know you were going? >> No, I didn't know I was going. I was sitting in the ci like I don't got this. Come on over here. I got a guy that's going to come over here and transport you here. Okay. >> Like just take it. >> Where you don't just hand me stuff here. >> No, hold it. >> Whose car is this? >> Janice. >> What? >> Calm down. >> No, because I got a warrant for what? I got >> I don't know yet. What the >> county? >> A Will. It's out of Will County. A Will County of what? >> What are you? Why are you changing? You were just a very nice none of this [ __ ] If nobody didn't take it should have been no point. None of this [ __ ] Yeah, I'm pissed. I ain't going to lie. I'm highly pissed. You're correct. You're very correct. I on my soul. My eyes blue. I'm I'm pissed. I got to do >> my trip is booked. I got [ __ ] to do. >> Where you going? >> I'm booked for some [ __ ] I got to do places to be Will County. Come on now. I just went to court for them. What are we talking about here? I literally just went went to court for them. What is we saying? Why they ain't take me to jail if I got a warrant for Will County. I been got to pay for squash all type of [ __ ] G. Like now I got to say the whole deal for some that I already been to court for that Will County. Like that don't see all that. All right then. >> Come on over here. >> Hang on. Face that spot car. >> There you go. >> Right here. Do you have anything sharp that can poke me, stick me, hurt me in any way? >> Yes. No. >> No. No. Didn't I just tell you I did? Stop asking me question. Don't ask me no more questions for the rest of us. >> Both women were charged with obstruction and taken to jail on outstanding warrants. Honesty and cooperation can make a difficult situation easier to resolve, but lying about your identity can turn it into a more serious problem. Even when you believe you have done nothing wrong, resisting reasonable police instructions or providing false information can lead to consequences you could have avoided. But what happens when shoplifterss think they have escaped after making it all the way back home? >> All right, I have a photo of you, man. Okay, there's a photo of you and and grabbing the >> cuz we already did I already had did it. That's what I'm saying. >> No, it's supposed to scan. You got to scan the the stuff. You didn't you didn't even scan it. On the 17th of August 2026, a Walmart reported a theft involving a man and a woman who allegedly fled with $145 worth of unpaid merchandise. All signs pointed to an apartment, prompting officers to head there to make the arrests. >> Doors open the window. You want to knock or you? >> Yeah. Thanks. Let me know if you want. You want a third? >> Well, no. >> I'll be here if you guys need. >> You take one. I take one. >> 61. If you're not busy, can you stop by here? Z police. >> Zion. Police. [clears throat] >> 27. Do you need me over there? Are you good? >> Yeah, you can come. We 11:01 both of them if they open the door. [music] >> 207. We're in the back. You guys could go to the front. >> I need to speak with Brandon or Angelica. I know you can see me, man. Just open the door. >> Did they really think talking through the peepphole would be enough? Clearly, it only made them look like they were trying to avoid the police. But even when they finally came out to explain their side of the story, things still didn't add up. >> So, what happened? Why are you taking the stuff from Walmart? >> Do you still have the stuff? >> I don't have nothing. >> All right. I have a photo of you, man. Okay. There's a photo of you and and kept grabbing this item and then you guys took a run. Okay. Where's the stuff? >> I don't have any stuff. So, what do you mean you don't have this stuff? >> I don't have no stuff. >> So, where did where did you put it? Where did you leave it? >> I left it over there. >> You didn't leave it over there. You on the camera. You start running to the car. They took a picture of that car over there. >> I don't have no problem. I don't have >> Where's Angelica? >> Let's go. >> Where's Angelica? >> She in the in the back. >> All right. Let me talk to her, too. >> What's going on? you go from 19 building or the building on the west side. >> Come on. >> So, we'll we'll talk to you right now. So, where's the stuff? Where did you leave it? >> Huh? >> It got it up. >> Let's go over there. Let's go and then we'll talk to her right now. Okay. >> Yeah. >> You want to leave your vape here? >> Just wait for it to come out and just go straight. All right. 22 information >> holding a crashing property damage delayed report available. >> This is this is the thing I saw you on the video. You stealing the stuff. You grab you and Angelica went over there and grabbed the stuff. The loss prevention they tried to stop you and you then you kept you grabbed the stuff and the receipt for >> No, no, there's no receipt. You both know that you guys grabbed the stuff and walked around the grocery and then just took off, right? Because of that, you're going to be under arrest for a retail day. >> 21 in custody. >> Shortly after arresting the male suspect, officers also located the female suspect. She was quick to defend herself, claiming that she had already paid for the merchandise. But rather than clearing things up, her explanation only raised more questions for the officers. >> Where uh we're going to go and talk to him back. Okay. So, where's the item that you guys took? >> Where are the items? >> Yes. >> Yeah, we have it on I have an affirm account where we could pay later. >> Do you have the >> Yeah, I can have um I need a phone though. My phone. >> Where's the phone? >> I can borrow my phone. >> I need to see the receipt. Okay. Can you show me? >> Um it has the $100 balance on it and it tells me that I can go ahead and pay. >> So, why you guys took off running? We didn't take off our >> Yeah, there's a there's a video. There's like >> down the stairs. >> Down the stairs. >> Yeah, that's where our arrival was at. >> No, no, you didn't. Yes, we did. The video shows that you grabbed the the plates >> and then he grabbed the other big box. You guys put in the car. You guys walked away and then from there >> the lost prevention kind of stopped you and then from there somebody Oh, I had the receipt. But the guy >> Brandon grabbed the big box and took running and then you grabbed the little one and you start running. >> Yeah. He told me I can come back and show him the receipt for >> Where's the receipt? If you have the receipt, I could we could release him. Okay, that's >> But I need to see the receipt now. >> I got to get a phone. >> Where's the phone? >> I got to ask my friend to borrow from man. >> Here, what's it called? >> Affirm. >> Affirm? >> Yeah. >> Hey, I have a question. Do you guys know anything about affirm? >> Yeah. So, supposedly you could pay online and they could grab it and I could leave. >> Yeah. So, you have any >> Is it a scan and go or what's it called? >> Yeah, it's a scam. You could take they do it's on the app too. >> You got to log in if you know. >> Yeah, I know. But um you should load them right here. >> I think >> Okay. All right. All right. Thank you. All right. Uh where's the items at if you have if you plotted? Where are they at? >> Um well, we we already >> from 20 weeks to 11:01. >> Hold on. >> Time for Where's Where's the item? >> We had um bought them we bought the items for a gift. >> So where they at? Um, the friend has them. >> What friend? >> Our friend that we got him for. >> Where? >> The woman couldn't provide the receipt she kept claiming to have. Even the man in the patrol car seemed increasingly worried as her story began to fall apart. >> Man, if she doesn't find a receipt of it, >> what's that? >> What happens if she can't find a receipt? >> No, she uh I think she has it. >> Yeah. >> And she's showing it my partner right now. >> And what if she can't What if she or whatever? My partner will come back and talk to you. I just, like I said, I just got here. I don't even know what's going on. >> You got it. >> No, I'm stay right here. >> All right. So, the Affirm app does it show anything that uh they could pay online cuz supposedly she said that Affirm is a credit that you could pay and they use on the go, too. Can you guys check that or no? So, you guys you guys only work for on the go. Is that the name of the app? Hold on. Let me double check before I Hold on. Is that the app you said? Is that the app you said? On the go. Okay, hold on. But is it on uh Walmart app, right? It is only on Walmart's app. Nothing else that you know of or is that how? So, here's the thing. So, the guy said the lady who told her like the ladyelica told him like, "Hey, I have the I have Hold on. Somebody's calling. Hold on. I have that. One second." Yep. Just give me a second. I'm confirming. Supposedly, she has the app to pay for it, and she says she paid for it. >> More than 10 minutes passed. Yet, the woman kept coming up with excuses for why she was still searching for the receipt. At this point, it almost seemed like she was testing just how long the officer's patience would last. >> Can you find it? >> No, it I have to swap it to his number. Look, my phone literally just broke. >> So, Walmart said that they they already talked to many managers. They only have >> Walmart's approp. I have the um credit card that goes go in. >> So what what's the phone that you use? >> Um I used my friend's phone >> cuz you didn't use no phones on the on the on the uh >> because we already did. I already had did it. That's what I'm saying. >> No, it's supposed to scan. You got to scan the the stuff. You didn't you didn't know you had to scan it. I thought you could just buy it. >> No, I didn't. >> No, no. I thought you could just buy it because we have the I have the money. >> I saw the video. I didn't see you grabbing no phones. Okay. You just grab the item and put it in a card and you guys walked away. Okay. You give his phone and you're going to be on the arrest for a retail test. Okay. 27. The female's in custody. 61. You could take him. Dispatch. >> Inside the patrol car, the woman continued making excuses to downplay her responsibility, seemingly showing little to no embarrassment over the situation. >> What happened? >> Would they be willing to get the merchandise back? >> She's asking if you guys want the stuff back >> and not press charges. >> Yeah. All right. Well, all right. Uh if Yeah. So, they're going to call someone because they bought it as a gift. So, babe, I'll let you know then. So, this is how it works. A firm, the one you have. >> Mhm. >> A firm you could use it. So, you could order it online and they will [music] bring it up to you that you got a designated spot that you have to go and they'll give they'll go and give it to you. The other one on the go, you have to scan the items and then from there I use scan the items. You got to scan [music] it and then go to the register and then you can go. >> Okay. Cuz I Yeah. On the go. >> And I had the the phone on your on you at all at all times. >> But if you had the phone and they told you [music] to stop, you should have just show it to them instead of running away. Does it make sense? >> Yeah. The woman was charged with retail theft and obstructing identification, while the man was charged with retail theft. The lesson is that trying to talk your way out of a theft rarely helps when the evidence tells a different story. Making excuses and failing to cooperate can only make an already difficult situation worse. But what happens when the shoplifter turns out to be a store employee exploiting the checkout system? >> Because I have money in my bank account. >> Yeah. >> To cover the things that I purchase. So I don't >> like when you you bought a fan like a ceiling fan. >> I know. He brought that to my attention and he said it rang up $16. >> On the 13th of July 2024, during a routine inventory check at a Walmart store, loss prevention employees discovered a small amount of merchandise missing for unknown reasons. An investigation was launched and the evidence pointed to one suspect, a cashier working at the very same store. At this point, sheriff's deputies were also called to the scene. >> So, she'll just grab things and then just change the the tag or just not pay for things in general. >> She she has tickets switched to a number of things like the um >> the clock and the >> the clock she didn't even >> or the fan, >> but whatever whatever like a it's just a decorative trick. But she she swapped that one out for uh some kind of a whistle. >> Just know that one she did scan. It's it's whenever she has like two of anything or more than two of anything, it's usually pretty pretty fair to assume that she's not going to scan at least one of them. I don't care. She's she's pulled the trigger on it, but that's not where the UPC is, right? So, she she she'll bagged one and scan the other one or she'll scan one and bag four of them. Um, there was big. >> So, that could have been a $150 cart that she may have only paid 75 bucks for it. >> She ended up with this one. She ended up paying $170 something. And that big pack of chicken, too. She she uh didn't buy uh I want to say it was 187 and some change I think of [ __ ] that she just skipped or didn't understand. >> It's understandable how an employee who knows the checkout process so well could potentially exploit it to commit fraud. But things wouldn't be so straightforward, especially when she wasn't willing to agree with what was happening. >> Becca at 547 mark time for Miranda. Because I mean I I honestly I did not pay attention. I mean I would never steal anything and that's why I offered to pay. I don't care what the amount is. I have a job that I can pay for things. A lot of times I don't pay attention. So, like in the videos when you have like the the box fan that you bought. >> Yeah. I mean, really, literally, I I didn't pay attention to the receipt. I don't ever keep receipts. I don't even look at the receipts when I get home. I don't look at them when I'm walking out the door. >> I mean, but I mean, I believe what he's saying. >> So, I mean, I was willing I I was whipping out my credit card. Hey, if if this is what truly happened, then I want to make it right. >> Okay, >> there's I mean, >> so according to her, was it all just a mistake? But it seemed the deputy was still far from convinced by her explanation. >> Maybe I need to start paying closer attention to how things are wrong. But I've never switched price tags, nothing. I would never do that. But like wouldn't you know like if you bought a like a ceiling fan and it >> No, because would it rang up like a lot less than like >> No, because I don't even check the I don't even check I mean I'll print the receipt just in case I need to bring it back, but I don't even check the receipt on how much I spend. It comes across on my phone. So if you bought something was like supposed to be $50 and but you really paid 300 you wouldn't pay any attention to that >> that it really would have been 300 >> like if you paid $50 for something but you're like well that's you wouldn't think that's weird like that thing's $300 like you wouldn't >> I know I would have stopped if I would have noticed something like that but he said there were multiple occasions where you know he's he's saying I mean I even heard him in the hallway >> right I'm saying but you said you don't pay attention to No, I do not pay attention. I just swipe it and I go on about my business. I because I have money in my bank account. >> Yeah. >> To cover the things that I purchase. So, I don't >> But you find that odd like >> But literally, I don't even look at the receipts. >> So, you may just pay $300 for something, not have any idea. >> If it comes across my phone and I think it's outrageous, then yes, I'm going to go back over and check the receipt. But if it's not outrageous then or I mean you know like I don't know if I can show this to you but >> nothing was concealed but the merchandise was paid for at less than its original value. This case appeared to be a variation of ordinary retail theft with the suspect being an employee herself who could potentially be charged with retail theft under Florida statute section 812.015. But what was even more concerning was that with a discrepancy of more than $500, she still couldn't provide an explanation. >> So all the things that they've brought up to you, you have no like >> No. >> Even like when you're in here grocery shopping, like not working. >> No. >> And you >> because I mean I I just spend $175 here for groceries. >> Yeah. >> And I scan everything >> and the video like shows differently though. But I don't see how that could be because like I said, I scan everything. I use the >> turning the thing like the barcode. >> No, no, not at all. See, look. That's how >> I mean that doesn't make any difference to me. Like >> that's how I check my account. I don't look at receipts. I know. >> You don't look at things whenever you pay. >> No. >> No, not at all. >> After you get done like shopping, you're not like, "Oh, I spent $140 here today." You don't look at that. You just scan your card. And >> basically, that's why I offered to pay because I mean, I'm an honest person and I want to rectify the situation. I don't steal. I would never steal. And I mean, if things are not ringing up, I'm not precipitating that. >> I mean, you know, I'm sure there are people that do do that, but not me. >> Okay. And honestly, I mean, you know, when I have the money to pay for things, even if I don't have the money to pay for things, I'm not going to go shopping. >> You see where I'm coming from? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, all this stuff you know, re No, you don't know anything about it? >> No, sir. I I don't know what else to say. >> Okay. Besides the fact that I would like to be able to >> Well, I don't that's up to them and I don't think that they're willing for you to >> What made the situation even more ridiculously unreasonable was one of her transactions. She had scanned a ceiling fan, but the price it rang up at was what really caught everyone's attention. >> Like when you bought a fan, like a ceiling fan. >> I know he brought that to my attention and he said it rang up $16. But honestly, I did not check the receipt. I I I walked right out of the front of the store with it. >> Right. But come on now. Like that's not believable. Like >> how is that not believable when I don't look at receipts? Typically when I go shopping, I don't ever >> You don't look at the screen and be like, "Oh, $17 today." >> You just get done scanning stuff. I I immediately I don't know you know what kind of um situation that you're witnessing but I immediately take out my debit card. I put it in the machine. I scan my Walmart uh discount card and then I put this in the machine and then I press print. That's it. I don't ever look at anything because I have the money to purchase. >> Right. But it's just not believable. Like honestly, like >> you're saying it's not believable, but that's what it is. I've never done anything. >> You would think that you'd spend $16 on a ceiling fan. >> I did not look at the screen on how much it cost. I I thought it was like $99. All I know is I picked it up. I wanted it so I scanned it >> and then nothing after that. You don't look at your because you said you >> I don't look at the screen. I don't sit there and >> notifications on your phone that gives you like look at that like oh wow that's >> No, it just comes across my phone and that's how I can account for how much money I have in my account. >> In the end, the woman was referred to the state's attorney's office for possible retail theft charges. [music] Repeated checkout discrepancies can turn seemingly minor mistakes into a serious legal problem. Knowing the checkout process does not excuse exploiting it. And offering to repay the store does not automatically eliminate criminal liability. And now let's move on to the next case and meet a woman who had to learn her lesson the hard way. >> What I do? >> What did I do? >> Oh, no. I'm saying what did I do? I was getting my letter out of here. >> You do and your children have issues, too. I want to make sure your children are taken care of. >> I'll figure that out. I just don't want to go to jail. Can I go home? >> On May 20, officers were dispatched to Walmart's loss prevention office after receiving a report of a theft at Target. The suspect was reportedly fleeing in a white Honda, but the loss prevention employee seemed quite familiar with her. >> Starting early today, huh? >> Oh, yeah. >> So, I got my body camera recording. Um, >> what'they get? >> Um, you've seen it before. >> Yeah, I've seen it before. I um apprehended her or I tried to just like two days ago and she gave up the vacuums that she's trying to steal. >> Yeah. >> We have other um known thefts on her and she's also involved with Cornelius Martin. I don't know if you know. >> Do you know who she is? >> We don't know her name though. >> Okay. You have a photo of her? >> Yeah. Photo. >> Yeah. Let me see if I can um >> I know Courtney Martin. I think I've seen her before. It's just Can I find the name? Do it. So, give me a little bit of time. If not, dude, just keep your tracking and then you have all your cases and once we get them, we'll hit her with >> I'll call you back if I see her, too, cuz she's been more active since cuz my boss just was in court with me this morning. >> So, now he's got her back. >> Um, >> meanwhile, based on the information provided by the store, another group of officers quickly located the vehicle involved in the incident. Let's see how our female suspect reacts. Lower your window. >> Put it down all the way. >> Put your hands out on the dash. >> Yes. Both of you guys put your hands out on the dash. >> Sorry. >> What did I do? >> Look. >> What did I do? >> Oh, no. I'm saying what did I do? I was getting my letter out of here for what? What did I do? Just >> keep your hands on the dash, please. >> Oh my god. What did I do? >> Oh my god. What did I do? Can I ask you guys a question? >> Yeah. >> I'm not I'm not trying to I'm not trying to just I'm not I'm not doing none of that, baby. >> Relax for a second. >> I'm not trying to do none of that. >> Just relax. >> Do you have to hold me? I'm not I'm not doing anything for just a minute. >> I'm not doing anything, man. Come on. >> What did I do? >> Huh? >> Can I please ask you guys the question, sir? >> Is she sitting in your lap or something? >> Yeah, she jumped in the car. Did you jump in the car? >> All right. They're detained. A black woman in a black jacket. He was fell out of the car. She was apparently sitting on the passenger's lap. They're saying she jumped in the car in the parking lot. >> Can I ask you a question? >> You're being detained. Okay. >> Okay. But I I'm asking what did I do? >> So, right now, you are a suspect in a shoplift. >> Oh, I did I did take some I did take some uh what's the name? Some socks. I did it some socks and stuff. I did. >> Just hang out for a second. Just Just let him finish real quick. And just so you know, you're being audio and video recorded. >> Okay. So, I'm going to go into jail. >> I don't know yet. Okay, >> I I I I'll give it back. I just got the socks. Please snap. Please, I got my kids at home right now. >> Every question about the incident seemed to be ignored, and she even resorted to bringing up her responsibilities as a mother. The way she kept pleading only made her behavior seem even more suspicious. >> Nothing. Nothing? >> No. Nothing pregnant me? >> Nothing, sir. Nothing. >> All right. What's your first name? >> Shenica. >> Shenica. >> Shenica or Jenica? >> Shenica. >> Shenica. Okay. Just relax. We're going to talk. It's not a huge deal. Okay. >> I might get my kids at home. Please. I'll just feed my kids. That's all. >> We're going to lie right back to my car. Okay. >> Okay. >> Please don't have to go to jail. >> Huh? >> I I I don't know if we're going I don't know if we're going yet. >> What did I do? I didn't do that. >> Well, we just talked to you about it. >> I know, but I'm saying >> so just hang out for a second. Okay. >> I understand. I'm about to faint. I don't want to go to jail. I don't think >> we said you're going to jail. >> I swear I got kids at home. >> Jenga, stop. >> Stop. >> Okay. I don't have nothing on me, sir. >> He has to make sure. Okay. So, just hang back my hand. Okay. >> Huh? Hang back for a second. Okay. >> Back of your hand. >> Yeah. This is in the back of my hand. Okay. >> Okay. Yeah. Go ahead. Yeah. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. There's nothing on me. >> But do you hear what I'm saying? >> Yes. But I want you. >> So, just before we go any further. So, you have the right to remain silent and just just hear me out and you're not going to jail. Okay. Stop. I have to read you your rights. So, cuz I'm going to ask you some questions. >> Yes. >> Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say, it can't be easy against you in the court of law. You have the right at this time. Talk to a lawyer and have him present while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one be appointed represent before any question if you wish. Do you understand your rights? >> Yes. >> Having these rights in mind, you still wish to talk to me? >> Yes, I do. >> Okay. >> What did you take from Target? >> I got some uh what's your name? Some pants and a t-shirt and to to to get take it to my my friends so I can get some money for my kids to eat. >> That's it. >> Okay. Where's it at? Where is it? >> It's right um It's right in the back. >> It's in the back. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Whose car is it? >> Whose car is that? >> Yes. That's hers. >> That's her car? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then what what what did you take besides pants, socks, and >> That's it. That's all I took. >> S socks and shirt. >> Yeah, that's it. >> Okay. >> Is it in your bag or is it in a shopping bag? >> It's in the bag right there. It's in the Target bag right there. >> Target bag. Target bag. Okay. >> Okay. Is there any other anything out there for sure? >> Nothing else. >> You got to simmer down. >> I know, but I'm scared cuz I got my kids. >> She seems remorseful. Perhaps believing that playing the victim and pleading for sympathy will help her walk free. But things aren't that simple, especially since this isn't her first time being caught stealing. >> Do you have any warrants or anything I didn't know about? >> You know what? I do have a old one that it's been years. It's from >> Just tell me what is it? >> It's from years and years ago. It's from a That was a long That was like seven, eight years ago. >> Okay. Hang tight with me for a second. I'll be right back. All right. >> But this is you, right? >> Sure. >> Okay. I just making sure. >> You recognize anybody? >> I do recognize. Who do you recognize? >> Lady in the middle from what? uh from the can target in the past. >> Okay, perfect. >> Um and what all did she conceal on her? >> Bunch of men's clothing and some other clothing or her jacket. >> Anything other than uh the Target bags? >> Um just the Target bag. Um I know she put stuff into her personal bag and whatever is in her jacket and she take it out. I'm not >> Okay, perfect. Uh stay here for a second. >> Yeah. No, I think they're good to go. Okay. >> Um, do you want the people in the vehicle trespass for as well? >> Uh, yeah, you can trespass them >> for life. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah, if you could just ID them and trespass them. >> Before taking the woman to jail, officers wanted to make sure her children would be safe at home if she were taken into custody. Unfortunately, this quickly became another thing she clung to as she continued pleading with the officers. >> Hi, how are you? I'm officer Gary Camp. Please have a body camera. You're being recorded. So, just so you know, you are under arrest for shoplifting. And uh miss, just to let you know, you are trespassed from Target for life. If you go back there ever again, there's a potential >> at home. Please, I I promise I won't go back. I got kids at the house. >> We can go over there and check on them. Who's with your kids right now? >> Nobody. They're at the house alone. My sister and Please. What did I do? I didn't take Did I take a whole bunch of stuff? I mean, what is the problem? >> Have you Have you guys read her yet? >> I read her already. >> Okay. So, you left your children alone? >> No. I left them at my at my friend's house. How How old are your children? They're they're young. It's so Listen, what? I can't go home. >> Well, hear me out. Shoplifting is not the crime of the century, right? But at the same time, if you committed a crime, you go to jail, right? >> I understand that, but they said like, man, I ain't do nothing. I understand that part. What I mean, I got I I got issues, man. >> You do. And your children have issues, too. I want to make sure your children are taken care of. >> That part, man, I'll figure that out. I just don't want to go to jail. Can I go home? >> I know you don't want to go to jail, but they don't have their stuff stolen, either. Right. >> I know. And I will I will never This is a lesson learned right here. But you you hit him earlier in the week. >> Who? Me? >> Yes. They have the video. They have all the cases. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. But I I took that. I tried to. No. No. I didn't I tried to I I didn't >> They had to stop you from stealing back. >> They They did. They did. But I That's why But I And I was like, you know what? After that night, I said I was never going to go back. I promise you. >> So, here's the deal. You're under arrest. We're going to get this stuff back. Um uh And you understand you cannot go back >> because you stole it. >> I know, but I'm just saying I can't give it back and go. >> No, you committed a crime. >> Okay. >> You're an adult, correct? You have children. >> I hear you. I hear you. I hear you. >> Right. When your kids do bad stuff, they have to be held accountable, right? >> Where am I going with jail? Am I going >> You're going to catch jail? >> Can't see jail. >> Yes. >> The little small jail. >> What's that? >> That little small >> That wasn't the end of it. Even while being escorted away, the woman continued coming up with different excuses, seemingly unwilling to take responsibility for her own actions. >> Did you already get her info? >> Yeah, she's all she logged in there. >> Here's all property info. >> Are those those are hers? Those are shoes. >> These ones are stolen right here. >> That might be for bag. >> Oh my god. >> I don't care. >> Hey, miss. Is this your purse? Do you have anything in here that's yours? >> No. >> Okay. >> You have anything that want you want to follow you to the jail? Maybe a phone or >> No, I'm Please. I can't. I got asthma. I bad heart. I'll tell you. I can't I can't I can't breathe. I can't breathe. >> I'm not I cannot breathe. No. No. No, no, no. I can't breathe. No, no, no, no, no. I can't breathe. No, no, no, no. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. To the hospital, please. >> Can I go to the hospital, please? >> I can't I cannot breathe. My heart's >> I have I have a bad heart. I got a heart. I got a bad heart. >> My heart >> I got a bad heart, man. Please take a video. I know, but I got a bad heart. Okay. Whatever. >> For what? >> Sounds good. All right. >> Uh-uh. You guys got famous. I cannot >> That was for me. That was my >> No. Please, please, please. I cannot go back in that car, man. I'm about to >> Hey, I can't do it. No, I'm scared. Please. >> What was that? >> Please. >> The site form. >> Oh my. Not yet. I can do it. Yeah. Oh my god, >> I don't have anything. What are you doing? >> All right, I'm just checking you. >> In the end, the woman was charged with shoplifting. Taking responsibility means accepting the consequences of your actions instead of relying on excuses or sympathy to escape them. When someone repeatedly makes the same mistakes, the consequences can become far more serious, especially when their choices also affect their family. Next, a woman gets grabbed by officers twice in a single day. What did he tell you? >> Drop your bag. >> He's lying to you. >> Let's drop your bag. >> I didn't do nothing. Drop >> your purse off. >> They're they're they're obtaining Julie. >> On February 11, a woman hurried out of a beauty store and ran toward an officer standing nearby. However, the officer was already waiting to approach her because she was suspected of being involved in a theft at the store. Here is what happened next. >> Drop your bag. >> What did he tell you? >> Drop your bag. >> He's lying to you. Let's stop the act. Put your hand. >> I didn't do nothing. >> I didn't do >> Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. >> There you go. Put your hands behind your back. >> There you go. There you go. >> No. >> There you go. >> Stop. Stop. >> You guys have to talk to me before. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Right now, you've been detained. Okay. So, talk to me and listen to my commands. Okay. >> I'm not going to >> let your phone go. Okay. Let your phone go and everything else. Hold on. Let me drop the purse. >> Water. Okay, stop. >> Smells like Sarba to me. >> I just went in there and did a texture of you, bro. >> Let me see this bag. >> My phone. >> I know. We're not going to take it. >> We're not going to take I'm going to put it right in front of you. So, >> let it go. Let it go. Yes. Let's go, ma'am. >> That's perfect. >> Let this go. Let this go. >> What? What's your problem? >> There you go. I'm trying to put this right here. >> Miss, >> you don't listen. stand over here. >> This woman should have been an actress. And why is that? Because right after the chaos she caused, she suddenly went silent and began playing the victim. >> Oh, that's water. >> What am I under arrest for? >> Right now, you're not. >> So, you're being the team right now. A few questions for you. Okay. >> I didn't do nothing, bro. Can you listen to me? What's your name? You don't want to talk to me. >> All right. So, I'm going to tell you something important. I want you to pay attention. Okay. You do have a right to remain silent. Anything you do or sacred against you. I >> didn't do nothing wrong. >> I'm trying to tell you something important. >> I ain't do nothing wrong. >> You going to talk to me? Yes or no? >> I didn't do nothing wrong. >> Okay. You're not answering. I went into Ultima and I to spray some for pum on myself and that [ __ ] came out and he's all I'm calling the police on you for what reason? I didn't do a thing wrong, bro. >> What's your name? >> [ __ ] what my name is. >> I didn't know your name. If you don't tell me your name, then you're going to be arrested for concealing ID. >> What's your name? >> Veronica Erene Garcia. But I have a medicinal car for PTSD. >> He can look through the entire thing. But I don't understand why you're putting me in half cuz you detained. >> Was this just the frustration of someone who had allegedly committed a theft? Either way, it didn't affect the officers who soon explained the consequences she would have to face. >> Boy, what's going to happen, Veronica, is you're being trespassed from Alta. Well, that means you cannot go to Alta at all. If you do go there, they call us, you're going to get arrested for criminal trespass. >> For what reason? >> Because they have the right to trespass people. Okay? So, listen to me, Aronica. You're not going to jail. You're going to go do whatever you got to do. Okay? But if you go back to that property, which is Alta, >> you're not allowed to be there. You're going to get arrested. Do you understand? That is the point. You're not going to argue back. >> Okay. Okay, fine. >> If you do argue back, I'll change my mind. >> Okay, fine. I'll never go in there. >> Your bag, you're free to go. Bye, Veronica. >> Veronica, get out of here, >> Veronica. This is their property. >> This is not their property. >> This is their property. Get over there. Want me to switch my mind? someone. >> Why would I change my mind? >> Okay, can I ask? >> Get over there. >> No. >> Perhaps being allowed to leave was exactly what this woman should have accepted, right? But her sense of entitlement wouldn't let her back down. Instead, she chose to stay and argue, making the situation even more tense. >> They work there. >> You let me I'm talking trespass. Get the out of here. >> No. >> Why are you going to jail? I'm I'm tired of you. >> If you resist, I'm going to charge you with resisting, too. >> I'll stop. >> No. Then get the out of here. I'm giving you the chance to go. Go. Go. Here's your trespass. Get the out of here. >> They're saying I was trespassed. >> You're being trespassed. Garcia. Here. I'll explain it to you. Okay. >> So, you >> gentlemen, they're saying I was trespassed for what reason? Bro, >> let me explain to you. >> Ali walked and was I I will show you the >> Look at the cameras, bro. >> Miss Garcia, listen to me, okay? You're officially being trespassed as of right now. Okay. as of today's date. >> Okay, I'll take I'll take this and Okay, go. >> So, for the next three years, should you come back, you could you won't be a tourist. Okay, >> I'll live that long. >> Have a nice day. Stay safe. >> Okay. >> You might think that was the end of it, but unfortunately for the officers, it wasn't. Wearing the same familiar outfit, the woman returned to the store later that evening, forcing them to respond to the scene once again. And this time, she certainly wouldn't be leaving so easily. Miss Garcia, you have been trespassed from this location. >> I'm I'm on the sidewalk. >> You're You're right. >> This guy is telling me I'm >> Take your purse off. >> They're They're They're obtaining. Julie, >> it's 282. >> What are you [screaming] doing? >> Drop your phone. Drop your phone. >> No, >> sis. Here you go. Let me see. Joey, >> stand up. Mermaid to tell I'm on the sidewalk. >> Joey, take over your purpose. >> No, I'm not doing anything wrong. Okay, please. >> Okay, stop. >> I'm asking you very nicely. >> It's a white guy and a No, I'm not doing nothing wrong. Okay, you guys have to give me Oh, >> you you I'm not doing >> Let go first. You're resisting now. >> I'm right here. I buy five and now they're saying I'm rusty. >> Yes, you want. >> They want mying money, guys. >> I don't want your money. We make enough money as it is, miss. We don't need yours. >> Okay. Okay. Stop. Why are you acting like this? >> Miss Garcia, please take Let go of your purse. >> You have been trespassed. >> What? >> We literally just >> Trust me, I'm walking on the sidewalk, bro. >> Right in front of Alta Beauty. We >> But I'm not doing nothing at Ulta Beauty, bro. You're being >> Okay, you have to work with me. >> No, you're not. We worked with you plenty. >> Joey, Julie, >> Miss Garcia, let go of your purse. >> Come on, bro. I ate up your purse. >> But the trouble didn't end there. After the woman was arrested, officers conducted a search and discovered several items that the suspect shouldn't have had in her possession. You hit me, Mike. >> I'll double check her bag for you, dude. >> Yeah, she has something some things you shouldn't have. >> I have all white though. Oh, your what? >> My three phones. The new one. The >> You only have two phones. >> The new one in the box. >> When did you get another in the box? >> You said in the box. >> It's a boost. I have receipts for everything. You take >> You're not listening to my question, so I'm not going to deal with you right now. >> She even has a copy of her trespass. Then this will just have to destroy Sir Can this [ __ ] piece of [ __ ] In the end, Veronica Garcia was charged with criminal trespassing and resisting an officer. A trespass warning is not something to take lightly, and refusing to leave can turn a situation that could have ended peacefully into an arrest. Cooperating with officers and respecting property restrictions can help prevent unnecessary escalation and additional legal consequences. >> You don't know. You don't know the last part of your social. >> What else do you have in your bra? Okay, >> there's a baggie on this side. Oh, >> okay. Hey, don't grab for it. >> On the 18th of April 2025, officers were dispatched to Target after receiving a report that they had detained a woman there. But they had no idea that this woman would be far from easy to deal with. From the moment they approached, she was already using suspicious tactics to avoid them. >> Can you take your bathroom? I got a Please. >> Okay, you can leave your purse here. >> I don't. >> Okay, just leave it here then. Okay, just leave it. Leave it here then. >> Leave it. If you need to go to the bathroom, leave your purse here. Just sit it down. >> Just set it down so we can hurry up and go to the bathroom. >> Everything's on camera. >> Then leave it in here. Do you have to go to the bathroom or do you not? Okay. Then leave a person here. If you need some >> Do you need an ambulance? >> Do you need medical? >> Do it's a yes or no. Do you? Yes. Okay. Okay. For what reason? I need to tell them. >> I have strokes. >> Okay. So, do you feel like you're going to have one? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Sit down. >> Which one do you want to do? Either we need Okay, then put down your purse >> so we can walk. >> I will look for the mail, please, and cameras. I got to grab my Oh god. >> Ma'am, you weren't hurrying to the bathroom very very quickly. If you got to go, you got to go. So, come on. >> Okay, ma'am. I'm coming. Put your phone down if you need to go. >> Take my phone. >> Do you need to go to the bathroom? >> It's fine. That's fine. I'm pissed on myself. Call the ambulance, >> please. >> I'm not saying you can't go to the bathroom, but you're making this difficult. I just wanted to >> sit down your stuff and let's go to the bathroom. >> I just wanted to Is that okay? >> With what's going on right now? And >> she kept insisting that she needed to go to the bathroom, but she also insisted on taking her purse with her, which seemed rather suspicious. Then reviewing the surveillance footage began to reveal part of what she had been doing. >> When she exited, she had it in her hands and she went straight into the back seat with both of the bags. >> Sorry, we were in the middle of dispatching a fire call. Did you want her all the way? Tell her. [snorts] Do you have any ID on you, ma'am? >> No. No. >> No. Can you take a picture of this lock or something? They're asking for description, but that's like >> And he just entered the store. He was in the driver's seat of the car. >> Who you calling? >> Yeah. Who recon? >> Who are you doing? >> Ma'am, you were under a criminal investigation right now. >> What are What are you doing? >> Uhuh. >> What are we doing? >> Hey, what was >> you're You're okay. >> She did not seem to realize how serious her actions were. Officers also asked her for information while she was being medically evaluated, but it seemed she had excuses to avoid answering their questions. >> You don't know. You don't know the last part of your social. She was >> you okay? >> Do you have a Oklahoma driver's license? A >> ID? >> You have a Oklahoma state ID? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> But you you don't How old are you? >> Um years and 4.4 months. >> And you don't know the last four years? So now listen, I had a car wreck. >> Okay. And I >> Okay. >> I my memories. >> I want Okay. So, I'm going to be real with you. I don't know the >> how in-depth all this is or what we're doing right here as far as what items this could be as little as a citation. >> Okay. Or if you are telling us false information about I know but let me just say about your identity that's a felony. So it's big difference. Okay. >> Okay. And you don't know the last for your social. >> There you go. It automatically >> locked. Door is heavy. >> Hey. Hey. What's going on? >> She alone. >> She kept trembling while talking. Was it simply anxiety and nervousness or was something else affecting her? The search conducted on the medical transport vehicle would provide part of the answer. >> Hey, did you get me? >> That's not you? >> No. >> Okay. What's your name? >> Sarah. >> Sarah. Okay. Well, Sarah, you're under arrest. Just letting you know. So, you're not going to have your property. >> Yeah. Let's take your phone. >> Okay. >> What What do you have in your bra? >> Don't Hey, please. What else do you have in your bra? >> Okay. >> There's a baggie on that side. >> Oh, >> okay. Hey, don't grab for it. Keep your hands down. >> Okay. Calm down. No. Listen. Why? But why would you care? >> I'm not trying to find him. >> Okay. Well, then just common sense would say don't grab it. >> Okay. So, >> where did you see the baggie at? >> It was on that side right there. >> That side like >> we're at exactly I'm not kidding with the other. >> Okay. Well, we're looking at a felony. So killing me. >> Yeah. A couple minutes worth of heads up. You're in custody. So >> So if there's more that's going to be found on you, >> I don't have >> Okay. So right now you're going to go to Integress Edmond. >> Okay. And then you're going to go to That's was on the right side and this was on the left side. >> It didn't stop there. Another woman reportedly connected to the suspect was believed to be outside the vehicle. Officers tried to approach her, but it seemed she was already prepared to stay on guard. >> Well, as we're walking up, I see those bags going through the back of the car. >> I'm putting I It's a bunch of bags back there. Like >> Well, I saw Well, I saw the Target bags. >> Okay. I'm putting that back there. I see y'all standing right there. I don't have nothing to hide. >> Okay. >> Nothing. >> Okay. Well, cool. If we get the bags, you should. >> Well, hey, we'll just open it up right here. >> Okay. We'll go ahead and open it up. Okay. >> These are my bags. >> Okay. So, >> I have two bags. I >> see two bags. >> Yes, sir. That's all. I don't have anything. >> How long have you had them? >> How long have I had them? >> Yeah, >> I bought them about a week ago. >> Okay. >> I don't have anything. >> Okay. Well, >> you check my car. I don't have anything. >> Okay. Who's your Who's your buddy that's inside? >> I know her by Scrappy. >> Go ahead. >> Yeah. >> I'm not locating anything on her. Can you answer the last four? >> You have fields f e i l ds. >> But what was even more suspicious was that officers could not find her name in the system. And when she continued giving different versions of her name, officers were quickly able to draw a conclusion. >> My name is Telicia. T A L I S H A. >> That's not how you spell >> I T A L I S H A. >> Okay, I'll tell you what we're going to do. We're gonna do this. So, >> so you're giving me incorrect info and you're also stealing stuff. >> Don't scream it out. We're in a parking lot full of people. >> I haven't taken anything from anyone. >> Okay. False information. >> No, I did not. I said Telicia Fields. >> And you spelled it T A Y L I S H A. I heard it. He wrote it. Okay. 74. I heard it. He heard it. He wrote it. >> My birthday was just Wednesday. >> Okay. Well, you you still >> you're you're my age, so >> I'm trying to be Wednesday. >> I know exactly when my birthday is. >> Oh, man. You absolutely do. >> I swear I didn't. >> Okay. Well, it's all on camera. I'm not going to argue about it. >> Well, okay. Well, it's fine, too. But I haven't said anything and I haven't taken anything. >> Well, you took those two bags. >> No, no, I did not. >> Okay. And your friend's also in there stealing right now, too. >> Okay. That's her business. She said she was going shopping. >> Okay. >> I have nothing. >> Okay. So, why are you here? cuz she had rides with her. >> She said she was going to the store to go shopping. >> In the end, Sarah was charged with felony shoplifting, providing false identifying information to a peace officer, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Once officers have surveillance evidence, arguing against what the cameras captured rarely makes the situation better. Giving inconsistent information can create additional legal problems, while staying calm and cooperating with lawful instructions can prevent a difficult encounter from escalating further. Set this down. Serious. I'm pregnant. >> Listen. This is It's not It's not up to me. Okay. Go ahead. Set this down. Listen to this. >> Please not pay them. I won't pay them. >> It's It's too late, man. It's It's too late. >> On the 12th of September, 2025, officers were dispatched to a store at the airport after receiving a report of a theft. The incident involved a victim who had reportedly lost a wallet, and surveillance footage appeared to show a woman wearing a white hoodie involved. Here's what happened when officers approached her. Get off the phone for me. >> One second. >> Let's walk right over here. Okay. So, let's be straight with you. Okay. I got you on camera. >> Okay. Where's the wallet at? >> It's in my bag. >> Can I have it, please? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. We're going to take it back. Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. These are friends. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Was it in a wrapping already? >> No. >> Okay. Do you have a driver's license ID on you? Yeah. Where would like to just right here? That's fine. Come over here. >> Can you do me a favor and find out? Okay. >> Cuz you guys went into the the clothes store. That's where you >> Yeah. We went to Coach the price of the bag and it came back out. >> Okay. That's what we're investigating. But she didn't even go in coach. >> Her friends had no idea about the wrongdoing she had committed. And with the evidence provided by the officers, she could no longer deny what she had done. The officers then made their decision. [snorts] >> I'm sorry. >> Well, unfortunately is we're w So I need you to go ahead and set this down for me. Yes, ma'am. I need you to set this down. I'm >> serious. I'm pregnant. Listen, man. This is It's not It's not up to me. Okay, go ahead and set this down. Listen to this. >> I gave her >> You're going to make this You're going to make this a lot worse. Take this off. >> Stop. >> Yeah, that's fine. That's fine. But listen. Hey, stop. I'm going up. This is about to get a lot worse. You better stop. >> I have to go. >> You better stop. >> Put your hand on your back. >> Drop it. Drop it. Drop it. >> To my friends. >> Listen. Put your hands behind your back. I'm not I'm not playing with you anymore. >> Drop it. Let go of it. >> She I explained you already. >> What did she take? >> Oscar, >> she's already She's already g back to me. >> He took my stuff. He took my stuff. >> He Please just take my stuff, please. I got all my belongings, my >> passes. >> The woman appeared embarrassed to have her friend witness what was happening. She repeatedly asked her friend to take her belongings while even ignoring questions from the officer. >> Where's Where's the Where's my new on your phone, right? Nothing else. 763. >> Texas 387ated like this is crazy. >> She stole something. You're irritated. >> Yeah, cuz I didn't know. >> Well, now you know. >> Okay. >> I can be irritated. You might want to help me. I can be irritated. >> I can be irritated. >> You need to be respect. >> I know my rights, too. >> I'm not doing nothing wrong. >> You need to be respected. >> But I know my rights. >> Okay. Bye. >> Straight up that way. >> Can I call my baby father? >> As soon as you get to to the home facility, they'll let you get any phone numbers out. >> What they going to do? We got your dad whenever you're ready. >> The officers separated the suspect from her friend, but she still seemed unwilling to say much about what had happened. So the officers explained what she would have to face next. >> Okay. So So what will happen is you go to our home facility. Okay. Come probably tomorrow morning, you will speak to a judge. Okay. The judge will take it to tell you from there. Okay. >> So it the wall is under under $100. So there's a class B C misdemeanor. It's not >> I can buy the wallet. >> It's too late. We stole the wallet. Okay. >> I can buy the wallet. >> It's the the the um store has already said they want to press charges. Okay. >> I will buy it. >> It doesn't It didn't change the fact you stole Walt, right? It's not yours. Are you >> Yeah, please. She doesn't have a driver's license >> or it's in her bag. >> So So your friends can get your stuff to at your destination. They'll pick up stuff. Yeah. >> You're from Texas. >> Washington. Maryland. >> Where's your driver's license out of? >> Huh? >> Where where's your ID or driver's license out of >> in my >> No. No. Like what state? DC or >> Maryland? >> Maryland. It's out of Maryland. I don't know. >> Oh my god. Can I call him please? >> Once once you get there listen there's nothing you can say or do is going to change this. Okay. >> Nothing can change what's already been decided. The officer told her when she tried to mention that she was pregnant. But she showed little remorse. Continuing to beg and offer to do things that were already too late. >> Please not pay them. I'll go pay them. >> It's too late. It's it's too late. >> I you shouldn't have stolen. >> Okay. I have to go. >> No, >> I was on. >> I I appreciate that and I'll put that in the report, but doesn't change the fact that you're still walk. >> So, I I tell you regardless. I mean, I got you on camera. So, >> please go. Please. I have to go home to my daughter and I'm pregnant. Please, I'll pay for it. >> I'm sorry. >> I'm not the one to apologize to. >> Well, can I go talk to him? >> No, ma'am. >> Please, I want to go home. I'm not from here. Continuing [laughter] to plead and portray herself as the victim, the woman only made the emotions rise even further as if she was determined to gain the officer's sympathy at any cost. >> Made a choice. Choices have consequences. >> If there's a actually on that card, see if there's a serial number or anything. >> You made a choice. This is your choice. You're an adult. Right. >> Yeah. >> Exactly. So, it's okay. Listen. You just learn your lesson and you go on your life. This is not the end of the world. You know what I'm saying? >> It's not nice to be hung up. >> It hurts. >> Okay. He'll >> hurt. >> Okay. He'll he'll adjust them. Okay. >> I'll adjust this. >> Just like that's an easy fix. You're going to have to go through this. Can I get my Can I please call my baby father? >> As soon as you get there, >> we got we got to get everything situated. >> I appreciate that. It doesn't change the fact what happened. Okay. I I will put that in the report and the judge will read it and go from there. You tell the judge that too. Okay. >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft of property. Trying to justify your actions after being caught does not erase what happened. Once the evidence is clear, taking responsibility is a better path than making excuses or repeatedly asking for sympathy. What do you think about cases like this? Share your thoughts in the comments. I'm sorry. >> What can I say? >> On the 9th of January, 2024, police were dispatched to Walmart after receiving a report of an ongoing theft. And upon arrival, they sought clarification in the loss prevention office where everything appeared to have been clearly laid out by store employees. >> Yeah. Know, we have we have footage of her ticket switching, putting another ticket on another item. >> Mhm. Um, we've had uh >> she's she had I don't know if she bought it earlier or not, but I have consumption. She dipped it or she tossed the product into an aisle and then she just started eating it and everything. >> Okay. But we can't prove that. >> Yeah, we we just have for sure ticket switching >> and concealment. >> And conceal it. Yeah. >> Yeah. She grabs whatever that is right over here and then she'll conceal it in her purse. >> And is the part of her concealing it on video, too? >> Yes. I uh you'll see right here real quick. >> And she had like a knife too. That's why we also called you guys or switch whatever it is. >> That's fine. >> Yeah. She will go to clearance and you know the yellow tickets that are marked down or whatever. >> Yeah. >> She'll go to clearance and then get a couple items from clearance and then she'll walk around take that uh ticket off and then when she gets a chance put it on stuff that she has in her cart. >> What items has she done that to? >> She has like this box thing. I don't know where she at. >> Do you have the video of that of her grabbing and putting it on? >> It should be on 26. >> Yeah. >> Immediately afterward, police approached the suspects who appeared completely panicked as if they genuinely believed they were innocent. >> Hi, how are you? >> Hey, how's it going? Behind your back. Charles behind your back. >> What's happening? I got take this off me. >> Excuse me. >> Why? >> You're being detained right now. >> For what? >> Excuse me. >> For theft. That's what you're doing. >> Can you please help >> for theft? >> What the heck is going on? >> He literally just paid for everything. >> Yeah, I definitely paid for my >> Excuse me. So, we'll we'll see what they do. >> You guys need to see >> Yes, we'll take all we'll take everything. >> Why? I don't want that. >> If you haven't committed any crimes, then yes, you >> Let me just double check these before you sit down. I don't steal, dude. I got money, but no reason to steal. >> Okay. Like I said, we'll figure it all out. >> Okay. The man denied his involvement, but was that truly the case when the woman later made several statements that revealed her actions. >> Wide step apart. >> So, I did put a couple of things in my bag. >> Sorry. >> You can just take him out, right? And then it's fine. >> Okay. Now, now >> go to jail for see me if she if if >> you'll go to jail for that. >> I mean, what if I pay for him real quick? >> Why didn't you pay for him? >> Because I didn't ask. I'm sorry. >> A crime get arrested. pay. I'll pay for whatever you had the chance to pay for. >> I'm sorry. That's just for [laughter] >> Yeah. >> I mean, I didn't take nothing. So, >> Okay. >> No, I mean, >> yeah, she scanned it for 94 cents. >> $94. >> So, it cost $94, but she scanned it as 94. That's like saying, "Yeah, >> I killed him, but I'm sorry about it after just cuz we're sorry about doing something." No, you can't. >> The woman only admitted that she had slipped a few items into her bag and claimed it was not worth charging her, but the price tag switching was also brought up by police. >> I mean, I got clearance stuff. >> Were the clearance tags on them already when you picked them up? >> Yeah, we went shopping in the clearance in all the different clearance areas. I'm going to explain something to you guys real quick. Okay. The officer is going to question both of you about everything that happened today. >> Before you give the answers, I want you to stand up. >> You stand up. >> Oh, yes. >> Yep. Come over here. >> Look at all these cameras. >> Okay. We've been watching you the entire time. Have a seat. >> So, before these officers start asking you questions and before you answer, keep in mind that that's all those cameras. You've been watched the whole time. Excuse me. So before you give answers about tags are already on things and you just paid clearance item for them, you might want to think real long and hard about the answers you give. Okay. All right. Yes, we're good. Wow. >> It's all right. I'm serious. >> I mean, it's not I mean >> I know. I'm sorry. >> What can I say? You know what I mean? >> Stupid. It's stupid stuff. Like, I mean, I didn't even I'm since you did I guess obviously see what's going on. You clearly see I didn't do anything. Can I >> The officer is going to talk to you about all that. >> Okay. >> That was the face after everything was exposed, showing not a trace of shame. And it seemed the man was not a firsttime offender either. I I just came out of prison like not too long two years ago, but I don't want to go back to jail. I've been good, dude. I >> What were you up for? >> Huh? >> What were you in for? >> Well, it was in for from my baby mother and me. I was for 13 years. It was burgly, but it wasn't it wasn't a real burgly. I was my own house. I was with my baby mother for 13 years. We had three kids together, you know. My oldest son about be 18. My son's going to be uh 13 and my daughter my daughter is um 10. She's 10. Me and her are still right to this day. But she just, you know, we're going through a separation and she's a little um psychotic. But if you look up the police report on that, it's not even it's not mother drama. >> It's a baby mother drama, not baby drama. I >> So was he with her at any time when she switched tags? >> No, near the end in a sense. And this area, but the whole time it was just her doing all the stuff while he was in this area in the auto section doing whatever he was doing. >> The man was confirmed innocent in this incident and was later released. your belongings. Pay for it. I paid extra. >> So, for right now, I just need you to collect your stuff. You're more than welcome to wait outside to see what happens, but for right now, you are free to leave. >> Okay. Is there any Is there any possible way that she would be free? >> We'll talk about that outside. Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Yep. We'll talk about that stuff outside. >> So, this is what's going to happen. And we have a program it's called APAD. It is for first time offenders. So she's a first time offender in theft. >> Yes. >> She'll be APAD eligible, meaning she's going to get almost like a court date for community service. Okay. Uh and as long as she fulfills all her obligations, uh it won't count against her record. >> So she won't be arrested today. >> If I'm waiting for dispatch to confirm. >> So uh I'm assuming you guys came here together in a vehicle. You want to wait in your car? You want to wait out here? >> I would like to wait and see what happens. >> Okay, I'm going to close this door, though. >> That's something you should have talked to her before this [ __ ] happens. I mean, I'll pay out. >> I don't, bro. This ain't my store. >> I get it. >> This ain't my store. You know what I mean? That's that's that's Walmart. Walmart wants to continue. So, we're going to the I mean, do they want they're not willing to take >> That's what we're That's what we're going to talk about. All right. Just wait right here. Returning to the woman, she seemed to accept what had happened, even believing that there was nothing [music] she could do to change it. >> You wish to answer any questions? >> I mean, if you have questions. Yeah. But I'm pretty sure you just already decided what's going to happen. So >> So he just needs a verbal yes or no if you're willing to because >> it's fine. I don't care. >> Well, you know why you're here. You know why you're in handcuffs. Okay. Um we have reason to believe that you committed theft here at the Walmart. Yeah, there's there's video evidence of of of you putting an item in your purse. >> I did. >> There is video evidence of you putting tags on merchandise that did not belong to that merchandise and paid a cheaper price. >> I didn't switch that. He didn't know about that, honestly. >> And that's why he's not in cups. Okay. So, did was this a spur of the moment thing? Did you plan to do this or >> No, I just I was just >> You saw somebody else do it before. You're like, "Let me try this out." I I had a friend who had done it and it seemed like a phenomenal idea, which I'm sorry that's ridiculous. I'm sorry, but it >> I it's obviously not a phenomenal idea. No, >> I won't do it anymore ever again. That's crazy. >> So, when you walked into the store today, was that your plan >> to switch? >> Not really. I know, but once when I hit the clearance aisle, it kind of just >> In the end, she was charged with theft and ordered to pay a $500 fine. Underestimating the consequences of theft is dangerous. Thinking it's a clever trick can quickly lead to legal trouble, public exposure, and lasting repercussions, even if one believes it's minor or harmless. >> Put the bag down. Put the bag down. Put your hands Put your hands up on there. Put your hands behind your back. under the arrest. >> On the 20th of October 2024, police approached a man as he was attempting to flee through the back door of the store with multiple unpaid items hidden in his bag. Once caught, he quickly had no choice but to accept the arrest. >> Chris, put the bag down. Put the bag down. Put your hands Put your hands up on there. winding back. No rest. >> You also have an open wall on as well. Take this bag stuff out the way. You have anything on this little piece? >> No. No. We got ID. What makes this suspect even more notable is that he had already come here twice that morning for similar offenses. It may explain [snorts] why he had outstanding warrants when he could commit these offenses without any shame. The officers then proceeded with a search of his person. >> We have all the merchandise. >> 34 back in service. They just put out a warrant >> from the swarm. Stay left for a minute, please. >> So, do you want me to take it? >> Should be good. >> Oh, yes. Second >> go on. >> Firework. You don't know anything that's going to pull you right there. >> He was then taken to the police station. From his expression to his demeanor, he remained unusually calm. As if he had simply accepted whatever was coming or believed he had done nothing serious. I can't hear. You got to speak up. Wow. Yes, Sergeant. >> I'm in the process. >> Take your sweatshirt off. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Earlier that morning around 8:30, the same suspect tried to steal nearly $300 worth of hygiene products, but fled after returning the bag when confronted. Security also linked him to a theft of over $500 the previous evening. Yet, despite the close call, he boldly returned to the same store just after 10 that night. The suspect was charged with shoplifting and taken into custody. Authorities also discovered two outstanding warrants and transported him to the county correctional center. [snorts] Returning to the same store after multiple theft attempts only gives law enforcement more evidence to work with. A close call is not a second chance to repeat the same mistake.
