I think I forgot this game. The the fishing ball. >> That's for That's paid for it. >> Well, we're past that right now. >> In today's video, we have a thief more concerned about getting her money back than the crime she committed. >> Um, she already concealed in the bag, but this cart right here, there's mixed items that are paid for or not paid for. >> My stuff that's paid for. What are y'all going to do with that? Cuz I paid for her stuff and my stuff. or another thief who thinks she's a lawyer. >> I'm the living person. >> I'M THE LIVING PERSON. UC1-308. I do not operate UNDER YOUR CALLABLE LAW. HEY, >> are you done playing games? >> You'll see it all in today's video. Nine worst shoplifterss caught stealing from Walmart in 4K. Next, these two women had six shopping carts and [music] nearly $1,000 worth of stolen items. >> She already concealed in the bag. But this cart right here, there's mixed items that are paid for and not paid for. >> My stuff that's paid for, what are y'all going to do with that? Cuz I paid for her. On the 4th of January 2023, police were dispatched to Walmart after receiving a report about two women allegedly concealing merchandise to avoid paying for it. [snorts] Upon arrival, loss prevention staff described their behavior in detail along with what the store's cameras had captured. >> So, it's this chick and another chick. Um, she already concealed in the bag. But this cart right here, there's mixed items that are paid for and not paid for. So, I can't tell you the amount, but it's a lot of merchandise. Okay. >> And I And this one's not standing for everything. But she already has [ __ ] inside the bag, too. I was just waiting for her to finish. The one walked away just [clears throat] over there. Right here. Wow. >> Moments later, police found the two women standing near the entrance, easily identifiable with as many as six shopping carts surrounding them. [snorts] Let's see how they reacted when the officers approached. You uh yeah need to sneak. >> Yeah. Keep going down here. Follow him. I swipe my car for her for her food. So I don't understand me. >> So I don't get that. >> I just got a call here, man. I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure he'll explain all that when we get inside. While the women were taken to the loss prevention office, staff began searching for the concealed merchandise. Notice how many items they were able to pull from just one small bag, showing just how thoroughly the staff had searched for the hidden goods. Just let her know that when I'm motioning basically >> how much >> Hey S. Um so right now we just have two detained at Walmart um for shoplifting. He has about five six carts worth of stuff that he has to go through. So um once he uh I guess gives me an amount. Um she'll search she'll search uh the females and I guess I'll have her transport cuz I still have to wait for the receipts and um >> Okay. He he doesn't have a an amount a number yet or anything. You still >> with six shopping carts filled with merchandise, it was certainly possible that some items had been overlooked. But finding so many unpaid items together in one bag was hardly a coincidence. At this point, one of the women tried to deny everything. >> Yep. I'll walk one out while you walk the other. >> Um, I got a question. Go ahead. My stuff that's paid for. What are y'all going to do with that? Cuz I paid for her stuff and my stuff. >> Whatever you pay for, you can have your money back if you want. >> Yeah, I want I want my money back. >> All right. He'll give it to you at the end. Okay, ma'am. >> And whatever you get paid for that was in my cart. >> May stand up. >> I have my medication, but I dementia and I have all of that. So, if you see something that I ain't purchased in my cart, I can pay for it. I have CO. Can you >> co? Can you? >> Yes. I told her. >> Well, um I'm done with it. Today was my last day. >> What do they say about? >> They don't hold back to your apartment. >> Huh? >> All the money. >> No, it was cash. >> Well, they'll give it to you. They also give it to you. How do they have a copy of what was paid for? >> They have the receipt. >> They have both of you guys receipt. So, how are we going to go back in our men accused of not going to let us come back in our money? >> Please forgive me. >> If you pay attention while denying everything, the women kept nervously glancing toward the merchandise, suggesting they knew something was wrong. Yet, even [snorts] as they were taken away, they showed little sign of remorse. >> Yeah. Come over here. Stay right there. My life is >> open. These tights are really hurting. Going to be off in like 2 minutes. Oh. Ma'am, excuse me. >> No, I can't lean back. The tight the cuffs are on my leg. >> Can you make sure I get all my money, please? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Hey, just so you know, she said she got co. >> Uh, what she said today is her last day. >> After all the merchandise was tallied, the total loss caused by the two women came to nearly $1,000, enough for her to be charged with felony theft. Denying what happened does not change what the evidence shows. When the merchandise, surveillance footage, and witnesses tell the same story, excuses can quickly fall apart and lead [music] to serious consequences. Next, this pregnant shoplifter becomes visibly frustrated about being arrested while pregnant. >> Was any of this stuff scanned? >> No. >> What was scammed is what she's got in her hand. >> Flipping it on us. Like, you're flipping everything. Yes, you are. I'm trying to tell you, explain to you. You're trying to marry my daughter in this thing. On the 18th of December 2025, police received a report from Walmart about a theft that had occurred. The suspect was reportedly a pregnant woman who along with those accompanying her had skipped scanning some merchandise. However, when approached, the woman tried to hide behind her friend in confusion. >> We did we make sure we got everything rung up? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Cuz Walmart's calling say there's some stuff not rung up from your guys' transaction from these from these two carts. >> Okay. So maybe I want to sit tight with me till we figure this out. Understood? >> Yeah, we have receipts for >> you guys all four together. >> My car's over there. >> Okay, but you're all two. You're all four together. >> Okay, let's put that back there and head back over here. Okay, you guys got IDs on you? >> All right, step back over here for me. You got ID on you, man? >> Headquarters. >> I didn't say go in the vehicle. I said step over here. Stand in front of the vehicle. >> Come on. Stand like a deer in headlights. Look. Stand over there. >> I was getting my ID, sir. >> Stand right there. >> I didn't say anything about going over the vehicle. Okay. If you need Where am I? >> Okay. Well, then you need to you need to communicate that. Okay. When I tell you to stand somewhere and then you go vehicle. >> Okay. Well, you need to listen to what I'm saying. Okay. We're investigating up there. >> That's what we were doing. Trying to get our ID. >> Well, then that's start over. Okay. You only move when I tell you to. Understood? >> Stand right here. >> Find any ID? >> Already gave both of you. Okay. Okay, just stand right here for now. We're investigating a theft. Nothing traffic related. Okay. At >> this point, you're not free to leave. You have the right to remain silent. >> After detaining the suspects, everyone was brought to the loss prevention office where the evidence gathered by employees began to shed more light on the case. >> They scanned the four bookshelves. That's it. >> So, the four tall large bookshelves were scanned. >> And he did the scanning and then he helped push one card out. She was in the handicap cart as I get my mouse to work. So there in the other door. >> So we got one large. What is that? There is that bed sheets there. >> Was any of this stuff scanned? >> No. >> What was scanned is what she's got in her hand. >> Okay. >> Another What are we looking at there? What is this here? Is that some kind of >> That's a Reesei candy bar thing. >> A Reesei candy bar tree. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And that's a whatever's in this Walmart bag. And then they bring up um >> all from one selfch checkout. >> Yeah. All from 35. >> Yeah. And then a blue Walmart bag full of full full property. >> There should be two Walmart bags. There's one here and one there. >> This has got shoes in it. >> Okay. Have to selfch checkout. That's on the uh >> this side. >> This side pharmacy side. Okay. >> All right guys. I'm going to give you a blanket uh Miranda warning. Okay. So listen up. All of you have the right to remain silent. Do we all understand? Is that a >> yes >> yes, sir? >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, obviously we're looking at it here on camera. There were several items not scanned. Sir, if you if you would, is there a reason we didn't scan multiple items? >> I don't know. I just I still scan it stuff and the gun wasing up and that's I that's >> gun between cars. >> So, the if the gun doesn't work, it's free. Is that what your philosophy is here? I mean, >> we were going between cart and card. >> Well, let me explain something to you. It's common sense is that if you use a selfch checkout, you're responsible for everything in the in the cart has to be scanned, accounted for, and paid for. Otherwise, it's theft. Okay? If you pay attention, only the male suspect and the woman had been detained earlier. Although the woman was released from the handcuffs because she was pregnant, police already knew who was behind the theft and were trying to get them to admit it. Instead, they continued making excuses as more questions were asked. >> All hers. Is that Did you guys pay for those for her at the selfch checkout? >> Yes. >> So, they're they're intended for her, but you guys actually completed the transaction. >> Okay. I guess like I said, if you guys if money's not an issue, why weren't the other things even attempted to be scanned? >> So, was the intention not to pay for those it the rest of the items? So, you're implicating that your daughter was a part of that. She knew that. No, not saying that. That was her stuff that we was paying for. >> The bookshelf. >> Paying it for her, >> right? The only thing I was paying for is the bookshelf. >> Are we just not answering questions or I mean what? >> I just did, sir. >> Well, I'm trying to be He's He's mumbling something. I'm trying to be as transparent as possible so we can get to the bottom of this. >> You keep just flipping it on us like you're flipping everything on me. Yes, you are. I'm trying to tell you explain to you and you're trying to bring my daughter in this face. >> Yes. >> That's what I'm trying to I'm trying to make sure she's not involved. >> My daughters, right? Correct. knew that that was my bookshelf. >> I was saying all the stuff that we had I was purchasing for my doctor, >> right? >> But there was there was only three there was only four things purchased of the four bookshelves. >> Yes, sir. Like and he was getting annoyed the scam wouldn't work. So I asked the dude the worker about the scanner but he had to flip them and he kept doing it and after he did it whatever and then he paid for it and then I was supposed to pay for the car but I had to drive the car. So it was just a lot going on. Like I said, it's more of a mixup because there are several items in both your guys' cart that weren't even attempted to be scanned. Okay, you guys, I don't know what's so hard to grasp about that. >> It was hard to believe the excuses given by the two suspects, especially after store employees revealed more information about their history. >> Well, prior got settled. >> They both been trespassed before. >> Not here, but they're trespassed from all the other stores. >> As long as you guys can print out something, >> I can show they've been trespassed. >> Yeah. cuz he did all the scanning. Correct. >> She was in the chair. The other girl was in the chair. The black guy was in the chair. [laughter] >> So, they're all kind of hopping out. Yeah. So, but he did all the scanning >> and they finally came up here. >> Okay. Well, they did go off. The other two, the younger couple went off and made another transaction. They showed me a receipt. They got some plausible deniability over. He said he wasn't really paying attention. They were purchasing the bookshelves for them. >> Yeah. So, I've cut them loose. And where he was the main scanner, it's going to be hard to show that she has, >> you know, culpability in this. Even though I'm sure she she knows >> she went out with stuff in it that wasn't >> in here. >> Yeah, she had the cut part. >> Yeah, >> we didn't take it out of the car. >> Okay. That was in the handicap. >> Okay. Yeah. I mean, I'm fine with sitting on both. >> All right. Oh, that's ours. They want to see. I need to get like an older one where they've been trespassed from previous Walmart. >> Cuz this back here >> that was just issued in April. [sighs] >> Oh, his expired indefinite as well. >> Both were escorted outside shortly after. Yet neither showed any sign of remorse, especially the woman who [snorts] seemed to make the most of her discomfort from being pregnant. >> Okay, we'll swing back over there by it. See if she's still in there. >> Anything else? >> Wait, put my stuff in my car so I >> Yeah, I'm going to search you before you get in my car. So, >> your uh rookie already take off for the day or what? >> Yeah, he was kind of earlier. He was kind of standing here right in the middle of the mix. I'm like, you you are you a suspect or what? Get on the passenger rear. Okay. How far along are you? >> I'm already in painful labor. This is tested positive and my baby. >> Well, once we get to the jail, you're going to be uh immediately seen by the nurse. Okay. So, if they want to release you, that's completely fine with me. You're going to get booked in on accessory to theft and criminal trespass. I need to pay you down the back of my hand. You just got a coffee here. Nothing else. You have pockets in your pants? >> No. Okay. Nothing else. Uh in your bra, anything like that? Yeah. Have you seen >> where we're going from uh from there when you get to the jail? >> If you want to call from [clears throat] the jail and they can come pick your key up from the jail, that's fine, too. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Hi, Mr. Back. You're clear for custody. Uh you're being charged with complicity to theft and criminal trespass. Okay. Hey, the criminal trespass stems from a an April 2025 incident at a different Walmart where you were trespassed from all Walmart property >> in the United States of America. You signed it. We have a copy of it. >> Yeah. So, uh that's where that that charge stems from. The complicity of theft is obviously being pregnant while uh Darren uh chose not to ring up all the items. Okay. So, that's what you're being booked in on. I'm not going to issue any paperwork and be held until court tomorrow. Okay. All right. >> The >> the man was charged with theft and criminal trespass. The pregnant woman was charged with complicity to theft and criminal trespass. Excuses become much harder to defend when the evidence tells a different story. When the truth is already being uncovered, honesty and cooperation are far better than continuing to make excuses. [music] Worse, the Victoria's Secret case involved nearly $100,000. And that wasn't even all the charges. What am I under whisper? >> Theft and identity theft. >> That's the gift cards. She's generating gift card numbers, dude. And she'll go in there with her phone and she'll scan hundreds. >> On the 5th of August 2024, police were dispatched to a residential area after confirming that a female suspect connected to a gift card fraud case was living there. But they would not expect to uncover even more secrets behind the case. First, here's what happened when it all began. Haley Brown, this is the Lynwood Police. You are under arrest. Come outside now with your hands visible. We have a warrant for unit number 10. All occupants of unit number 10. Exit the apartment. Do it now. >> [ __ ] aggressive. Aggressive. >> There's no ambiguity when you're under arrest. >> How do you be a negotiator? You're not a negotiator. >> I can't be. I negotiated the crap out of that larger male. >> Yeah, you did great. >> All right. Well, >> face to face, you were great. But to be a PA, all of a sudden, you get all >> dial it up to. Hey, hands up. Put your hands up. >> Here. Hands up. Keep coming. Stop. Put your hands on top of this. >> Turn around. >> Just turn. Turn around. >> Anyone else inside? >> Brown. Yeah, Haley's in custody. Let's walk over. >> What am I under rescuer? It's >> theft and identity theft. So, >> you have the right to remain silent. You say it can be used against you in the court of law rights. >> Yep. >> According to the investigation, the woman allegedly used a real gift card number [music] as a starting point, then turned it into a barcode on her phone. At Victoria's Secret, she repeatedly tried nearby numbers until one matched a real customer's gift card. It was almost like a guessing game. The victim would have no idea their money was gone because the physical card was still sitting safely in their wallet. But at this point, the suspect was still trying to appear innocent. >> Okay. So, you have a warrant to search my house. >> Correct. Who else is in there? >> My friends. Taylor's not in there. >> Okay. Who Who else is in there? >> I just told you my friends. It's not Taylor. >> What's that? >> It's not Taylor. >> Is Samantha in there? >> No. >> Okay. >> She's saying there's someone else in there. It's not Taylor. >> Where's Samantha? >> What's her name? My friends, if we need so many names so you can tell them to come out and not under arrest, >> they'll come out. If they need to come out, they'll come out. >> If we have to go in and find them in there, it's not safe for them. >> I understand that. If you tell them to come out, they'll come out. >> So, what are their names? >> Just say occupants of the house, come out. >> Okay, then do it again. >> This is like so extra. You could have literally >> Well, we don't know that, right? >> How do you not What do you mean you're here for What did you say? theft and identity theft. You act like you're here for like a freaking murder charge. >> How many other people are there? >> Three. >> There's three others. >> HEY, UNIT 10, WE KNOW THERE'S THREE MORE OF YOU IN THERE. You're not under arrest. We need to come out the front door with your hands off. >> I'm already in handcuffs. Can I just tell them to come out? >> No, it's fine. Just chill. >> Okay. >> Occupants. You're not under arrest. We need you to come out with your hands visible. >> Maybe you should tell them you have a warrant to search it and then they'd understand. Occup arrest. >> Do we have to like sit here while you search it or can we just go to jail? >> Uh, we'll talk about that. We'll probably get you out to jail. Are you interested in talking about any of the the fraud stuff? >> The woman would rather go straight to jail than stand there while the police search the house. She seemed to be downplaying the situation, but it also raised suspicions that she might be trying to hide something inside. Meanwhile, everyone in the house was being called outside one by one. >> What's your name? >> Bailey. >> What is it? >> Bailey. >> Bailey. What's any warrants or anything? >> No. >> Okay. Who's this other guy over here in the white t-shirt? >> That's my husband. >> What's his name? >> Tyler Newton. >> He has a warrant. >> There any firearms or anything like that inside the house? >> I don't know. >> Super cooperative. Yeah. Is Bailey who's Bailey? >> My wife. >> Your wife. Okay. >> And so, like I told him, I have a stupid misdemeanor warrant. >> I'm not even sure if you do or not because I just looked. >> And listen, but I'm willing to I'm willing to talk with you guys, work with you guys to handle this if you guys would just let me go with my wife today. Like I said, I posted my out of custody bail. >> Mhm. >> And um I'm working with Aladdin Bond. >> What about the fraud stuff? Oh, I mean the Bath and Body Works, the Famous Footwear, and the um you know, I if you guys can let me walk, I will sit down with you guys and tell you whatever you guys need to know about them. And we're not involved whatsoever. Not any shape or form. We just got here yesterday. We were here, my bad, I lied. We got here the day before the night before yesterday >> and um we were only supposed to we were only supposed to be here that night >> and um it ended up we were here [ __ ] 2 days. My wife's never been in trouble. You know, we don't do the whole fraud thing, but I can I can certainly help you guys with what you guys are looking for when it comes to her, what she does, how she does it. >> Okay. You don't have any weapon. Did we pat him down? >> Patt them down. >> Oh, yeah. We can take them out of handcuffs. >> So, are there any guns or anything like that inside the house? Where they at? >> Do you know what there are? >> Yeah, it should be a um should be a uh I'm trying to not talk too much. It should be a shotgun, an AR-15, and a 9 mm with a silencer on the end. >> Okay. >> All three of them should be advised, though. >> I that that Oh, what a god damn. >> Yeah, but they're not exactly designed to be >> I came crawling out the back door because I didn't My wife's like, "Babe, there's cops everywhere out front." I said, "I don't know what." >> The man was reportedly wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court, which may be why he was so cooperative. taking advantage of his willingness to talk, police continued questioning him and his statements began revealing even more serious details. >> Um, but I don't know like if are you looking to for the fraud stuff from like >> I'm looking for the fraud stuff. I'm looking for the guns. I'm looking for the dope cuz she's dealing right? >> Honestly, I mean >> I don't I don't suspect she's some highle dealer, but >> yeah. No, like she's not know nothing high level. She's not she's not doing nothing crazy like that. I mean, if she's dealing she's dealing a little amount. I mean, she's into the fraud. That's what she's into. She's not really dealing. >> What kind of fraud? >> Like, uh, mail theft, a lot of like going mailboxing. >> Yeah. >> And like peeling the whole entire >> like the streets where the mailbox, you know, you know how there's a like >> the cluster mailbox? >> Exactly. That >> like it's at apartments and >> that's where she gets a lot of her victims. >> Yeah. >> Okay. What can you tell me about the Bed Bath and Beyond and >> famous? That's the gift cards. She's generating gift card numbers, dude. And she'll go in there with her phone and she'll scan hundreds and hundreds of gift cards to try to to try to pay for the merchandise she has at the register, you know? Yeah. >> And then she'll take that merchandise. >> Does she show you how she's generating them or >> No, I don't, Dude. I couldn't even figure that out if I wanted to. >> Okay. >> I don't I I can't do numbers like that. But >> does she has she bragged to you about, you know, how how often she does it or >> I mean, dude, I mean, she's constantly constantly doing it, you know. >> Yeah, >> it's crazy. >> Uh, stand by. I'll come talk to you in a minute. Do you know how long that's been going on for for her? >> I would need I would have to ask my my my wife has it. She would know. She would know about how long it's been going. Probably I would say at least a year. >> Okay. >> I mean, >> um, what do you know about Samantha? Oh god. I don't know much about her. I know that they're just alike though. I mean, we her >> Does she do a lot of the fraud stuff too or? >> Yeah, but her and her sister don't really get along that well, you know. But see, it's it's funny though because I mean they try to >> when one gets in trouble, they try to pin it on this one. Then when the other one gets in trouble, that's just, you know. >> Like I know that there's something about Costco going on with them, too. Like >> Yeah, I know the Costco stuff. >> Yeah. And like her and her sister were the ones on video. And I'm not too I don't know too much about it. I just know that the how they got all that information was from mailboxing. I know that >> that's how that's this that's how the only thing is is with [music] math and body and stuff. That's not coming from mailboxes at all. >> The search of the house then began almost like a treasure hunt because everything police found inside was leading them toward an entirely different and much more serious case. >> What you got? Uh, bagged white powder here. Bagged white powder here. >> Decent amount. >> What was this again? >> And then >> what was that one again? >> If they say that's what it is, what it look like? Might be, but >> Well, what what did you tell me it was earlier? You think it might? We'll test it. But it's a hardcore user, but not at the news. >> I believe you. I'm just again, we're just I'm just telling the officer here what that might be. We will test it anyway, but it just helps us out a little bit. The stolen guns, illegal drugs, credit card making equipment, mail belonging to other people, stacks of cash, and merchandise from Victoria's Secret and Pink all pointed to a much bigger operation. Together, these findings supported the charges of organized retail theft, identity theft, financial fraud, possessing stolen firearms, and drug offenses that Haley Brown would later face. Criminal schemes can become far more serious when one investigation uncovers evidence of other illegal activity. What may begin with gift card fraud can quickly lead to stolen property, identity theft, weapons, and drug charges, showing how one trail of evidence can expose an entire operation. Next, let's head to the airport to see this man's shameless lies unfold without hesitation. >> So, do you want to take them out for us? >> These are the glasses. >> Yeah. They're valued at over $2,000. On the 8th of June 2026, what seemed like an ordinary day at DFW airport quickly changed when a store called for police assistance after a theft was reported. The suspect was reportedly a man who had fled after taking several Cardier sunglasses. So, officers began by reviewing the surveillance footage to identify him. >> All right, so it's this guy right here. He picked up a pair of Cardias that are right here. He brings them over here to look at. I'm rewinding it really quick so you can see. >> What time is that? >> This was at 4:56. It was a few minutes ago. So, he has them on right now. >> Hey, this is David Tum on a call. >> Uh, I'm looking for an individual with a black shirt. >> I'll send it to him right now. >> He's going to send me a picture. It was at 450. >> He should be walking around the store. >> Okay. Can we get a better picture? Can you go back so we can try and find this guy? >> Did we have a real good time frame that he left? >> Uh, yeah. Let me pull it up. What time did he leave? 4 >> 154 >> 154 >> 4 54. >> Shortly after, officers found the suspect sitting calmly and playing on his phone after committing the alleged theft. But once the officer showed him the surveillance footage, that sense of comfort would quickly disappear. >> Can I talk with you for just a minute? >> Here, if I can just talk to you to the side over here. But um >> anyways, do you want to grab your stuff real quick? >> Sure. >> Yeah. >> Do you have another bag with you or is that it? >> That's it. >> That's it. Okay. If >> I can have you just stand over here. >> Mhm. >> All right. So, let me show you a picture here real quick. So, I'm officer Der DFW airport police. Nice to meet you. What's your name? >> Ethan Anderson. >> Ethan Anderson. Nice to meet you. Is this you right here? >> I don't know. >> How about that? >> Maybe. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, that's you. >> I I would assume so. >> Yeah. Okay. So, you were at the the sunglasses the Texas Shade. >> Okay. Just what couple minutes ago? 10 minutes, something like that. And uh we have video footage of you um stealing one of the glasses. Okay. And in the video it shows that you put it in your bag. Is there a reason why you took those glasses, sir? >> No. >> No, there's no reason. [snorts] >> Do you have them in your bag? >> I mean, I can show you the video so we know that they're in there cuz we see it. Okay. So, do you want to take them out for us? >> These are the glasses. >> Okay. So, >> how does this play out? Yeah, I'll take those. >> He calmly handed over one pair of sunglasses, but in reality, he had taken far more than that. Still, before looking into everything else in his bag, officers first tried to understand what was behind his action. Oops. >> So, there's no reason why you stole them. You just you saw them, you liked them, >> you wanted to take them. >> I mean, you could talk to me. >> I I don't have a reason. >> I can see >> you don't have a reason. Okay. >> I was on the phone. was not really paying all that much attention. >> It is. I have it. Okay. So, it's >> on a heated phone conversation, >> right? >> Okay. So, this is theft, >> just so you know. >> Okay. So, we are going to place you under arrest for theft. Okay. >> You put everything in your bus. Okay. So, we're going to go and take this back to the store, but as you were, you can't you can't do that. That's against the law. So, you are under arrest for theft, and we're going to we're going to walk you out. >> Give him a second. Give him a second. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Here, we could do that out here. >> Is there any way I can not be arrested right now? >> Uh, no. No. you committed a crime. >> He claimed that he had been distracted by a phone call and took the items without realizing it. But that explanation was clearly hard to believe. And once officers searched his bag, things became even more suspicious. >> I'll just search it here. >> These are not it either. Y'all carry these These are his person. I'll put them down. >> I was just going to send him down. >> Did you buy this? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Thank you for cooperating with us. We appreciate it. Yeah, they're valued at over $2,000. >> Several more pairs of sunglasses were found in his bag, suggesting he may have had a clear purpose behind taking them. But now, let's hear how he explained what the officer had discovered. >> I didn't even go anywhere else in here. >> Okay. >> The duty free. >> Do you remember taking this one duty free? I don't remember doing it. >> Okay. >> But >> okay, I got you. >> Pay it. >> I got you. All right. Appreciate it. I'll go over there and get the value and everything for them. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Thank y'all. How's it going, y'all? >> Do y'all have a store manager? >> We do. >> Can I please get them? [snorts] >> Y'all carry this brand? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Well, we're going to have to check some cameras. >> Yes. Well, not for this. We caught somebody for something else and then they had this and it was my suspicion that they probably took it from here. >> How's it going off car? Um, we just arrested a subject for theft, not from here. This was found in their property. It is my belief >> that they took it from here. >> Yeah, I think so. >> Can you please check your cameras? I'll give you time stamps. It was around uh what time did they say? >> 4:51. >> At this point, to make sure the item found by the officer was actually stolen, they asked a store employee to verify it by checking the inventory and scanning its barcode. And the more they checked, the clearer everything became. >> That's all I need. And that it's not paid for. >> Yes. According to our cameras, he didn't he never made it to the cashier side. >> And I can check our >> Yes, please. If you could do that for me. Last call. >> Do you think it could have been taken right here? >> Yes. Yeah. >> Yeah. And it's exactly see 3 6 9 and with this one >> 12. Okay. >> In the end, the man was charged with theft. His excuses could not change what the surveillance footage and the evidence in his bag revealed when the evidence tells a different story. Trying to explain it away only makes the situation worse. But what happens when a shoplifter uses their knowledge of the law as an excuse to break it? >> I HAVE KNOWLEDGE. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. DO YOU KNOW YOU'RE LOOKING AT A BLACK QUEEN? YOU DO NOT GET OUT OF JAIL BY acting like this. >> Fantastic. I'm not pregnant. >> On December 24th at a Macy's store, a woman was caught on camera taking merchandise and removing anti- theft devices. The employees then brought her to the loss prevention office, but she seemed to think she was there to cooperate with them or something, judging by how strangely she approached the officers. >> One brought me water. >> Yeah, I need some water. >> Okay. Do you need water or you need paramedics? >> Yeah, cuz I feel >> you just need water. Give me some warning in the meantime. >> Okay, let's detain. >> Well, we can we can figure that out. So, just >> just hang to stand up and turn around for a second. >> You can figure out anything with their medical needs. Relax your arms. Relax your arms and you're being detained right now. >> What? >> For what? You're here for walking. Put your hands behind your back. Relax. >> Do not rip your hand out. You are being detained right now. Okay. I need to pay under your colorable law because I know my rights and I without understand I do not understand and I don't consent to nothing because I didn't do anything with her. >> Okay, great. Why don't you have a seat? >> Yes. Can I get >> Why don't you have a seat? >> Do we have any cup of water that we can get her? >> Okay. We're getting you your water, ma'am. It's We're here for you. Okay. >> Can you open it to me, please? >> Yes. That's what I'm doing. Can you hold on a second? >> Stand up again for a second for me, please. I'm just >> You're not the boss here. >> No real obvious weapons or anything in your pocket here. >> Traffic. >> Your water is open. >> Here. I will. You want to do it like that? Let's go right for it. >> You're not 1021. Your radio is not working well. >> Showing no shame, this woman who claimed to know her rights openly disrespected the officers and refused to cooperate with any of their questions. >> I do not understand. >> It's Britney. I do not understand. I do not understand. >> What is your middle initial? >> I do not understand. >> You're gonna have to give us your name. >> I don't understand. >> You have a middle initial. >> I don't understand. I don't understand. >> What is your date of birth? >> I don't understand. >> Someone inside. >> I don't understand. I don't. I do not understand. Not understand. >> Can you listen for a second? >> I do not understand. I don't understand. >> Listen for a second. >> I don't understand. >> Okay. I get what you're saying that you don't understand. Okay. You need to understand the circumstances that you're in. >> I don't understand. >> They're looking at the property that you have here. >> I don't understand. >> If you can relax for a second, we have a process that we can go through. >> My right. >> Stop. Shut up. Shut your mouth and listen to him. Mr. Willer, YOU'RE DOING YOUR JOB. I understand you. But I understand my the law. I've been studying. So, I'm reserving my rights. I'm in the process. So, I know what's going on with this whole bull crap of the law. I know what's going on. So just just once I get my rights, my civilian national rights, we're going to be okay cuz I do not understand oper. I don't understand you guys fault and I'm not in you guys jurisdiction. I do not understand UCC1308. Thank you. >> So So let's start where we're going to start. Okay. You're you're misunderstanding the situation. Okay. You're inside You're just listen. You're inside of private property. >> Beyond her claims about her rights, she refused to understand anything else. With $3,000 worth of merchandise hidden away, officers confronted her, but she only pushed her rights claims even further. >> You can have some >> Get your foot out of the door. Sit down. >> Oh, you're going to hit me and I'm and I'm in I'm in cuff and you're going to hit me. >> Sit down. Have a seat. >> I do not understand your law. He just read me some He just read me something on the paper and I said, "I need to speak to the chief. I don't understand. HOW YOU GOING TO FORCE ME AGAINST my will? I don't understand. HE READ ME SOMETHING. >> GET YOU OUT of this. >> Oh, do I think >> you think this this yelling YOU THINK WE'RE >> YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE CUZ YOU'RE WORKING FOR THEM. YOU HAVE YOURSELF DEEPER. >> I'm not digging myself deeper. I'M STANDING FOR WHAT I KNOW BECAUSE GOD'S GOING TO get me out of here. You think you're going to FOOL ME. YOU GUYS BEEN enslaving us for years. I'm not a dumb ass anymore. I was back then you caught me 5 years ago. I was stupid. >> I was letting you guys run over me. THIS WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW IS ILLEGAL. HOLD ME UP. YOU'RE VIOLATING THE SUPREME COURT LAWS. YOU ARE VIOLATING THE CONGRESS LAW. YOU ARE VI I JUST RESERVE MY RIGHTS. UCC1-308. >> That means nothing. >> It means have a seat when you >> YEAH, CUZ I HAVE MELANIN and you don't. I know. That's why you're mad. >> That's why you're mad. You know, >> you're doing a good job of getting under my skin. I'll tell you. [laughter] >> WE ARE THE CREATOR. YOU GUYS WERE CREATED. You know, you don't have melanin in your skin. Of course, I'll be mad, too. Yeah, I know. I'm a black queen and when I get done I DIDN'T GET ANYTHING WRONG CUZ YOU CAN'T SHOW ME ON THE CAMERA ME PUTTING ANYTHING IN THAT BAG stealing anything and you're holding me against my will. You holding me against my will and I just I just reserved my right and you did not understand. You did not take that in consideration. So >> she seemed to know the law well yet used it to justify stealing which was unfortunate to see. As officers moved to escort her away, she continued arguing, making the situation even more chaotic. >> Listen, I'm not Can you go? >> Come on. We're taking you to the hospital. You're not feeling well. Let's go to the hospital. >> Listen, listen. >> Oh my goodness. Are you kidding me? >> Yeah. Let's go. Come on. Don't do that. >> I'm going to echo cuz you guys don't want to let me talk. >> We're taking you to the hospital, right? Is this another phone? >> Hey, wait. Hey. Hey. >> Are you done playing games? >> Call the ambulance. Call the ambulance. >> Call the ambulance. Call >> the ambulance. >> We're going to call the amber lamps. >> Just sit there. >> Let me take this off. >> You just dragged me. I'm dizzy. >> Good lord. Did you go to the school of giving people a hard time or what? Yes, sir. >> Yeah. I mean, you you're doing a great job, but you're still going to go to jail and you're going to catch more charges because of all this. >> All right, so why don't you just stop talking? We're going to get you the ambulance. >> You're going to get water. >> Yeah, the ambulance will get illegal. Oh my god. All this is on camera. Yeah. >> Yeah. It's all you. All your act is on the camera. >> Yeah. >> And you guys don't have >> We wish you a merry Christmas. We wish you Well, I'm just getting some cool air. >> We wish you a merry Christmas. Happy. >> Watch out. She's in a >> She's getting up. >> Yeah, she's in a dash. >> The woman certainly gave the officers a Christmas to remember, though not necessarily in a good way. And it seems she still wanted to make an impression because her disruptive behavior was far from over. >> Trying to do everything we can. >> You're not going to pass out. Stand up. You're not passing out. You're telling us you're going to pass out. You're not passing out. >> Just put her there. >> All right. We'll just There you go. Sir, we saw the photo. They not telling you, >> sir. I told them I was pregnant AND THEY DRAGGED ME THE WHOLE WAY. >> YEAH, WE'RE GONNA DRAG YOU AGAIN BECAUSE you're not helping us. >> You are You do not get out of jail by acting like this. >> I'm pregnant. >> Fantastic. I'm not pregnant. >> The woman was charged with retail theft and sentenced to time served. She may have believed that repeatedly asserting her rights could help her avoid the consequences, but knowing the law does not mean you can use it to justify breaking it. Her refusal to cooperate only made an already serious situation more difficult and chaotic. Next, the father claimed he had forgotten as an excuse in front of his family. >> I think I forgot to scan the the fishing ball. >> What makes you What makes you think you forgot to scan that? >> I forgot it was in there. >> I forgot it was in there. >> So, if it hasn't been scanned and you go past the final point of sale, they won't let you purchase it. >> On the 1st of June, 2025, police approached a family right after they finished their shopping trip. There would have been nothing unusual about it if the father hadn't been caught skip scanning merchandise. Here's what happened next. in the car. >> Oh, man. You take a seat for me. >> We're not involved, man. >> You take a seat for me, man. >> Move this just a little bit more. >> All right. We saw we don't know what's going on. So, can you just sit down for me? >> And then I got to read you something real quick. >> I wasn't trying to steal anything. >> Okay, that's fine. Just let me read this for you real quick. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court or in other proceedings. You have the right to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions to have him present during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you free of any cost to you for any questions if you wish. Do you understand those? >> Yeah. I was trying to stay >> with those rights in mind. Do you wish to speak with me? >> Huh? >> You wish to answer my questions? >> After the officer read him his rights, the man seemed to feel more pressure about the situation, prompting him to start admitting to some things he claimed he had forgotten. >> I mean, I would like a scan done cuz >> Okay. Was there anything that was not scanned for or scanned paper? >> I think I forgot to scan the the fishing ball. >> What makes What makes you think you forgot to scan that? when I was scanning it. I don't know if it danged or anything like that. Do >> you have your license on you, sir? Some form of ID? >> No, it's in the car. >> Okay. I got self here. >> But that's about it. And I just forgot to scan it and I'm coming. I'm coming back to >> your What? >> I'm coming back to come get it cuz maybe maybe I didn't scan it. Maybe I didn't want to walk back to my car and get the money. But maybe that that's about it. >> Okay. So, you maybe you didn't scan that, but you were going to come back and scan it. Yeah. >> No, no, no. >> Go get the money and come back. >> I forgot it was in there. >> I forgot it was in there. >> So, if it hasn't been scanned and you go past the final point of sale, they won't let you purchase it. >> Okay. >> Can I get your first name? >> Franklin. Jeez. Okay. >> Yep. So, he's this. You'll talk to this officer. He's >> Sorry, you can sit down for me cuz we're >> But the officer wasn't convinced by the man's excuse that he had simply forgotten. The more closely they examined the merchandise, the more suspicious his explanation became. So, right now it looks like something got separated over there. Has not been >> on the receipt. >> Let's pay for it. Let's pay for it. >> Well, we're past that right now >> because you don't drive and I'm the only one that drives to go home. >> I'm not taking you to jail if that's what you and then I didn't know what was in there. I knew what was in there. I just thought it forgot. >> You didn't know what was in there? I don't understand. >> The pole. >> What about all the other stuff? that's not been scanning like the the Capri Suns and the cheese balls and pizzas and Gatorade. You know why those scanning all the stuff on the chairs? You know why that stuff wasn't? >> I I know I stand there, didn't I? I had that little thing and I was just pressing it as I go. You know, I kept saying ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding. >> No, I wouldn't do that cuz my wife just got a job here. You know what I'm saying? >> Mhm. >> We all make mistakes. We're all human. >> Yeah. So, has this happened before? >> No. >> Okay. So, if we look at your cards, we're not going to see this happen ever before. >> What? This one? >> No. So, this type of behavior, right, where stuff wasn't scanned, we're not going to see that. >> I don't think so. >> What we'll do is we'll search the car. We'll verify that this behavior doesn't continue. >> Okay. >> No, it's not going to happen again. Okay. >> Well, I say not again, but previously, cuz we have access to every purchase that you've ever made previously. >> Okay. The family was reportedly shopping for 3 hours, so they should have known exactly what they had carefully selected. Yet, with many other unpaid items still being found, the man continued pleading for mercy without any shame in front of his family. >> Did you guys get the Marlo sweet tea and the Kinder egg here today, too? >> Uh, I think so. >> Okay. If not, I'll pay for it right now cuz I don't know. Remember when I was scanning? What? >> Okay. Can you put everything else that I forgot to scan? Can I pay for it? >> No. >> No. So once you walk past the final point of sale and it hasn't been purchased, they they know why you purchase it again. Okay. Grapes are on there, too, right? >> And you guys have never been stopped before. >> No. How much do you know how much is a fish? You know, I'm I'm not sure. I grabbed it. I was going to pay for it for real. All right, guys. I just I'm just asking a question. I forgot that was in there. Okay. I was just >> All right, man. I got to take a picture of you. Okay. Just look at me, please. >> All right. So, what's your name? >> Sarah. >> Sarah. Okay. Sarah. So, obviously, you know, you work here, right? Um, so the issue today is you're involved with somebody that has been stealing from here. Just this instance today. Whether or not you agree involved or not, I have to do the same. to what he's saying. So, just so you guys are aware, none of those are report. >> Wait, I scan, didn't I? I I didn't scan all that. >> I get another picture. >> At this point, his wrongdoing was clear, but instead of arresting him, the officer made a different decision to deal with what he had done. >> Franklin, what's your phone number? Guessing. Yep. >> All right. Don't worry. >> So, this is a notice to appear for retail theft on July 7th at 9:00 a.m. at the Pasad County Courthouse in Pin. >> What if I can't? >> If you don't show up, you'll get a warrant, but you can call ahead of time. If you have like >> Where is that at? Cuz I don't know where Pasad County Courthouse. >> Oh, right there on Okay. All right. >> Court Street. Yeah. >> Um, you can call ahead. like this is like over a month's away. Um >> yeah, >> but yeah, you can call something that gets thrown out because I >> forgot to scan everything. >> That's up to them. I just give you this. You go talk to the judge and he decides from there. >> Okay. Because Okay. >> All right. So, I just need you to sign here. It's not admitting guilt. It's just saying that I read that to you. >> Okay. >> And then you have your copy of the suspect. >> That is your copy? >> I got a copy of this, but I don't have a copy of the >> Oh, right there. Yes, I want to make >> that been explained. Trust me. >> Yeah, they got all the pictures [clears throat and cough] and everything. >> Yep. I got pictures. So, >> you guys are done with some You guys are done with them. Sierra, >> you're done with them? >> All right, you guys are good to go. Okay. >> All right. >> In the end, Franklin Wormowski was charged with one misdemeanor count of retail theft under Illinois law. Trying to avoid consequences by claiming you simply forgot to scan an item becomes much harder to defend when multiple unpaid items are discovered. Honesty and cooperation are always a better choice than continuing to make excuses when the evidence says otherwise. What do you think about cases like this? Despite their arrival, she appeared unusually calm, acting as though nothing had happened. >> How you doing? How are you? >> Sounds unrelated. I'll handle that. >> I didn't say anything was wrong. I said, "How are you doing?" That's all I said to you. I'm greeting you, saying hello. That's it. I didn't say you did anything wrong. If you want to continue shopping, go ahead. >> Where's the bathroom? >> Where's Where's the bathroom? >> The bathroom's in the front over there by the recas. Where goes all the copper right here that allegedly that they were concerned about. It appeared she was only looking for a restroom as an excuse to avoid the officers as the shopping cart full of merchandise had already been abandoned. When officers approached her again, her panic gradually became visible through her behavior. Do you need a you need us to call you an ambulance or something? >> I don't need [ __ ] >> You sure? In reality, she had no intention of using the restroom as she soon began displaying even more bizarre behavior. All right, miss. I'm going to I'm going to call your ambulance. Okay. Something's going on here. >> It's fine. It's fine. >> Something's going on here. I'm going to call your ambulance so you can get checked out. Strange behavior does not excuse refusing lawful orders or resisting officers. A situation that could have ended with simply leaving can quickly escalate into multiple criminal charges when someone chooses confrontation instead of compliance. [music] >> Get your hand behind YOUR BACK. >> DON'T YANK ON ME AGAIN. >> YOUR HAND BEHIND YOUR BACK. I kicked him. Yeah, I kicked him in the face and sergeant had red and bleeding on his lips and everything. So, >> on the 26th of April 2025, officers were dispatched to a Walmart after receiving a report of a woman shoplifting. All right. Put your hand behind your back where you're under arrest. >> You're going to get tased. >> You understand me? >> The woman was then escorted away, but despite everything she had done, she still showed no sign of remorse. >> There you go, Stephanie. Stand up. Stand right here. Face the car. Anything on you, Stephanie? I usually in front of the camera. >> Oh, that's okay. >> No, they want to me. They're >> just the phone that's on you. Stephanie, is there anything in the purse illegal? >> I got marijuana from the tobacco shop. You're allowed to have marijuana. That's legal. >> Then you ain't got nothing to worry about. >> Any weapons in there? >> Nope. >> Okay. Nothing illegal. You can't take into the jail. >> Nope. >> Okay. >> Uh she may or may not be combative when we get her out. I'm not sure. Okay. >> Um, she was she I mean she attacked one of both of our officers. >> Who was it? >> Like kicked him. Yeah. Kicked him in the face and sergeant had red and bleeding on his lips and everything. So, >> okay. >> Even after being taken to the police station, her behavior only got worse. Despite already being in handcuffs, she continued acting aggressively, escalating the situation once again. >> Come on, I'M WORKING ON IT. >> GOOD THINGS. PUT YOUR HEAD on the back. >> Knock it off. >> MAKE IT. >> GET OFF OF ME. >> KNOCK IT OFF. >> GET OFF OF ME. >> 55 just being a kab. >> You know, we don't have to do this the hard way. You opted for it. All right. And whose glasses are these? >> I think. >> Yeah, they're mine. >> Oh, they're broken. >> You owe me glasses. >> Okay, >> listen to me. If you're willing to change out, they'll change out. If not, you're going under a stranger chair. It's your choice. I have no problem getting up. >> Okay. >> That's not what I'm asking you. Are you going to change out? I don't know what that means. Are you going to change your curl arms? YEAH, I'LL CHANGE MY CLOTHES. OKAY, cuz we have to fight you again. You're going in the restraint chair. Do you understand? Do you understand? You don't answer. You're just going to go in. >> I said yes. >> I'm not talking again. Not to her. >> The woman was charged with two counts of fourthderee felony assault on a peace officer, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, persistent disorderly conduct, and criminal [music] trespass. A situation that begins with a simple trespassing complaint can quickly escalate when someone refuses to cooperate and becomes violent. [music] Every act of resistance only adds more consequences, turning a minor incident into a much more serious criminal case. >> What do you mean by stupid? >> I committed a crime sto. >> You committed felony retail theft because at the threshold of $750, that is a felony amount. Okay. On the 22nd of October 2024, police were dispatched to Target after receiving a report of a theft that had occurred. The suspect was believed to be a woman who had attempted to take more than $1,200 worth of merchandise while paying only about $50 for some of the items. To get more details, let's hear the employees statement. >> Yeah, she basically just went around the store like selecting a whole bunch of apparel, putting a whole bunch of apparel back on shelves. Um, and then she started concealing it in bags that she had selected. And then, uh, she put the bags on the bottom of her cart and I think one was in her cart basket. And then she walked through the check lane, took out like six clothing items, paid for about $50 worth of stuff, and then tried to extinguish the rest. >> And you guys watch it on camera the whole time or in person? >> I watched in person. He watched on camera. >> Okay. And so that's not including the $50 she paid for. >> Yes. >> That is including or not including? It is not in court. >> Okay. And where are the items you paid for? Still with her? >> Yeah, they are in the office. >> Okay. She give you guys IDs and whatnot? >> Not yet. >> Shortly afterward, the officer approached the female suspect. She then gave a full statement about everything she had done. >> So, why am I here? >> What do you mean by stupid? >> I I stole himself. I tried to steal stuff and I wasn't thinking. And why are you stealing stuff? >> I have no idea. I really don't. I was just talking. I have no idea. It was stupid. I just My head's been everywhere and I didn't think I have a checker waiting for me for 30,000. I have no re There's no reason why should we I know that I messed up 100%. >> And these are just what all did you steal? >> It's over there. Yes. >> I'm just saying what was it? Like >> stupid clothes. >> You're just selecting random items. >> Smart. It wasn't smart. >> Okay. So, you paid for these items here? >> Yes, I did. >> How did you get here? I drove. >> You drove? Okay. >> Okay. So, you drove here and you're from Palm Bay? >> I'm not from Palm Bay. I'm from what I meant like you live in Pal and what made you come to go see a friend in dealing with an abusive boyfriend? >> Oh, sorry. So, were these items for you or for >> Yeah, they were for me. >> Okay. >> I wasn't thinking. I literally wasn't saying that. I I was not thinking. Sorry. >> I feel like a scumbag and I'll never do it again. I know that for a fact. >> Jacqueline, I got to say I've been been doing this job for a very long time. And you're the first person that I've ever had [music] commit a retail theft over $1,000 or first person ever. >> Are you serious? >> That I've had. Now, there's been others, trust me. Wow, that's I'm sorry, sir. Sorry, guys. I'm really sorry. But I hope you guys know about that because this will never happen. I promise you that. This is so stupid. >> She tried to claim that she had only stolen the items by accident, as if that could somehow lessen her responsibility for what she had done. Even more strikingly, she calmly admitted to the actions she had committed. What changed your mind when you were walking through the store that you thought it'd be a good idea to try to take these items? >> I have no idea. I have no idea. There's no excuse for it. >> Okay. >> And I know that. >> So, you just walking through the store, you selected a few items. You're like, I'm going to pay for those and the rest of them. >> Literally was talking to the girl with the juggerning. I mean, there's no there's no excuse for it. There's really not. And I feel like >> So, you did try to hide the items and conceal and pay for just the $55 worth of stuff. >> Yeah. Basically, I think Yeah. So, you knew you were only going to pay for a few items while you tried to scoot out with the rest of it hidden in your cart, >> but in a very deep way. But, I mean, there's no excuse for what I did. I know that. >> No, there's no excuse. >> And it's this is a life lesson in life. I know that. I really do know that. I'm sorry. And I feel I do feel horrible about it. But I'm sitting here with you guys. This is a scumbag thing to do. Even better than this. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> No, sir. >> Never been in trouble anywhere before? Never sir. >> It seemed like she thought it was no big deal, but her attitude had to change when the officer explained the charges she could be facing. Um, so when it boils down to it, the state of Florida and the Title Police Department don't take retail theft very lightly. Okay, you committed felony retail theft because at the threshold of $750, that is a felony amount. Okay, so as long as you stay cooperative with me, okay, the handcuffs will stay in the front. Okay, so that's as long as you're cooperative. If you become uncooperative, then I'll put them in the back and stuff like that. >> Yes, sir. Please understand. Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> Okay. I'm begging you. >> Put your palms together out like this. >> I'm begging you. >> There's nothing that's going to change that. You committed a felony retail. >> Call my fiancé. >> We'll we'll work on that here in a little bit. >> Sorry. You couldn't I think my fiance has $400. >> It's It's already passed that. It's already exceeded that. Regardless of whether you had the money to pay for it or not, you should have done that before you went to walk out of the doors. These guys, this is this is their job. >> Okay, so this is what they get paid to do. Walmart has the same people at every location. Okay, this is their job. >> You attempted to walk out of the store with over $1,200 of merchandise that you were not going to pay for. You paid for $50 of it. So, yeah, you get to keep that. >> I'm sorry, sir. Please. I'm begging I'm begging I'm honestly I'm begging you for the bottom of everything. >> Begging me is not going to work. I told you here at the state high school, we don't take retail theft lightly. Shortly afterward, the woman was allowed to make a phone call to her fianceé. He also tried to suggest a way to change the outcome, but clearly there was nothing he could do to prevent her arrest. >> Babe, you're on speaker. I'm being arrested for for theft. >> Why? >> Cuz I just I was made I made a stupid decision and I can't I can't get through. Can I talk to Can I talk to them, >> baby? >> Yeah. >> Can I talk to them? >> Hello, it's Officer McIll Police Department. >> Hey. Hey. Do is there a way I could pay it and and y'all could just give her arrest? >> No. So, she committed a felony retail theft and we have no leniency when it comes to felony. It's over $1,200 worth of merchandise she attempted to walk out of Target with. So, I'm I'm a reasonable cop. Okay. I'm That's why she's allowed to make this phone call. Most cops would not allow her to make this phone call. to tell her she could call you when she got to the jail. This phone call also served as a purpose as a courtesy to let you know that she's going to jail and that you need to get something done with her vehicle because if not then Target's going to eventually tow the vehicle which is just going to add on to the total uh it's going to cost you. >> I I got your key. Is there a way is there a way she could leave the keys with Target and I will get them? >> That's up to I'm I'm here with two other employees. Is there a way that the keys could be left with you guys so he can come here and retrieve the car? Yeah, you can put it up with guest services. >> Okay, they will put the keys with with guest services. Okay. >> Can Can I double check with her? >> Yeah, she's right here. >> Yes, babe. This is so stupid. >> Hey, what what's what's our bond going to be? >> Uh up. It's going to be over 2,000. It may be 25. They've just recently changed the bond schedules, so I'm not >> What's that cash for? So that I know. >> Well, cash would be whatever the bond amount total would be. So it' be 2,000 or 2500, whatever it ends up being. What? What do I What am I going to have to pay a bonds for? >> A bondsman is typically 10%, but you would have to call a bondsman and let them and and and figure it out. They make their their thing. >> I can't pay the bill. I know. I'm serious. >> Okay. Um All right. That's >> So if it's 2,000, it's $200, give or take. >> All right. Um pay the bill, >> baby. >> I can't. >> Shortly afterward, the officer continued speaking with the loss prevention department about catching her in the act. According to the employees statement, it became even clearer that this was not an accident or an unintentional act at all. >> There's a large number of apparel selections in her cart already and she would put back selections and then select without looking prices. >> Okay. And then you would you observe as she was >> um observed her foot back merchandise and take other merchandise and sell merchandise and bags. >> And those are the three bags that were out there. >> Mhm. >> And she was just filling them full. >> Yes. And then uh she went through one of the check lanes and um only paid her about $55 worth of stuff. >> And there's a items there in the buggy currently. >> She also uh ripped open the headphones package and took the headphones out and was holding them in her hand. >> Those were the red ones that we saw. >> Okay. And you followed on foot? >> Yes. >> And you were watching here? >> Yes. >> And you kept eyes on her the whole time >> with the cameras and what? Okay. All right. And you raise your right hand the other right. There you go. Can you spare a statement about the whole truth? Mother, the truth. What we got? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. >> The woman was charged with felony retail theft after attempting to leave Target with more than $1,200 in unpaid merchandise. Shoplifting may seem like a small decision in the moment, but the consequences can become far more serious when the value of the stolen merchandise reaches the felony threshold. Taking responsibility before crossing that line is always better than facing the legal consequences afterward. >> Why you grabbing me? >> You have a warrant for arrest. No, I don't. You've got a warrant. Don't do this. >> Why do I have a warrant? >> Get off of me. >> Don't kick me. >> On the 28th of January, 2024, police received a call from a Kroger store reporting that a woman had placed merchandise into a bag and left without paying. Officers soon located and approached her, and she already seemed to have an excuse prepared for her actions. >> What happened? >> What do I mean? I got cold on you. >> I got cold on you from Kroger. >> Oh, I had the tissue underneath >> and uh I I had a a paper towel >> and I put it on top and then I forgot and I woke back. I said, "Oh, I forgot how much it is." Then I had the tissue underneath. >> Uh-huh. >> And I gave it back. >> Okay. That's not their version of it. >> What's their version? I was only in there for 5 minutes. >> Okay. Do you have a receipt for all the stuff? >> What stuff? >> Did you take anything from Kroger? >> I didn't have this. Yeah. Juice. I've been had this. >> You what? >> I didn't have this in my cart. >> You already had that? >> Yeah. I had this in there in my cart and this in my cart. >> Okay. >> You have an ID with you? >> No. >> She had no receipt to prove she had purchased any of the items. At that point, the officers confronted her directly about the alleged theft, and her attitude quickly became more tense. >> Why? cuz we were called on you, your exact person, for a theft in progress from Kroger >> from the tissue. I gave the tissue back to her. >> Well, you took it out of the store. So, that's a theft. So, you can either cooperate. Listen to me. You can either cooperate with us or we'll take you to jail. All right. So, give them your name. >> I'm cooperating. I did not take the tissue out. I gave it back to them. >> So, regardless of whether you gave it back to them or not, it's still theft. You still took it. >> I didn't take it out the store. >> Okay. Took it past points of sale. Okay. I have a paper paper towel. >> Explanations are fine for after. Right now, I need your name. >> I have paper towel and I had tissue. >> What is your name? >> Monnique. >> Mon'nique. What's your last name? >> Smith. >> Can somebody go talk to the people at Kroger? They were in the parking lot by the uh >> by they teach you how to vote. >> Kroger doesn't call us for [ __ ] Okay. So, we're going to go talk to them. They're going to tell us what happened. And so that's what >> 31 to 30 I can take care of. >> The best thing you can do is cooperate with us and tell us. >> I am cooperating. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Don't feed us on some [ __ ] cuz they got cameras. We'll watch all that. >> Okay. And you can see I gave they paper I priced the paper towel. >> This is mine. >> But you didn't go in there with that stuff. >> Yes, I did. >> Okay. >> Cuz I was in there for earlier before I went to TJ Maxx. >> No, I don't. Yes, I do. >> Let me see your receipt. >> I was in a lot of stores. At that point, the officers confirmed over the radio that the woman had an active arrest warrant. They then moved to arrest her, but she did everything she could to make the process more difficult. >> Why you grabbing me? >> You have a warrant for arresting? No, I don't. You got a warrant. >> Why do I have a warrant? Don't wait a minute. Wait a minute. Relax. >> If you don't relax, I will charge you with resisting. If you do not relax, I will charge you with resisting. Let go. Let go. If you when I tell you I tell you to cooperate. This is not relaxing. >> I have a warrant for my arrest. >> Yes, you do. >> When I when they ran your social, they just told me you had a warrant. >> All right. All this could have been avoided except for the warrant. You just >> Why do we know I have a warrant? >> I don't know. I haven't been able to get that far cuz you haven't been straight with me. >> I mean, you didn't let me know. >> Don't move. >> You're doing this. >> You're moving around. That's why. Stop moving. I'm trying to loosen them up. >> You Okay, wait a minute. Now relax. >> I have relaxed. I'm about ready to put you on the ground. >> Y always do. And I broke my arm before. Relax. I broke my arm before. >> Now I can get a thumb in there. Now look, let me put my arms together because I haven't been through this. Okay, now let my arm go. >> You were not the one. Okay, I'm not going to trip you. I'm preventing you from moving cuz you've not been cooperative from the jump. >> All I was trying to do is investigate a theft investigation and you have stopped me at every turn. >> Oh no. You say I got a warrant for my arrest once I gave you my my thing. >> You might have both. You do have a warrant, but I was trying to figure out the theft thing before. >> Okay. So, when is the warrant? >> I haven't been able to get that far because you have not been cooperating with me. Okay. >> Yes. >> When is anything on your personal legal or dangerous? No. Anything in a cup, poker, or stick me? >> No. >> Okay. Separate your feet for me. >> When is the warrant? >> We don't know all that. >> Can you put my tablet in my bag, please? >> Everything will go with you. After successfully handcuffing the woman, the officers searched through her belongings for receipts that could prove her innocence, giving her a chance to back up her claims. However, it seemed there was no one to clear here. >> Where's the receipt at? >> Not that bag. >> This bag? >> Yeah, >> this bag. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> No. Matter of fact, >> the stuff TJ Maxx, too. We got stuff. >> There ain't no receipt in here. >> Run in. No, he bought that for me. >> You been out stealing? >> Yeah, he went in the car. He bought that. That's his stuff. >> Who's he? >> Yeah. >> Who? >> That's my boyfriend stuff. >> Okay. All right. >> Well, we'll check on it. >> You've been out stealing. I'm not a fool. >> You act like I'm an idiot. >> I'm not acting like you're >> all right. Well, you are. >> Not much. >> You're You've been out stealing today. >> I just didn't I had days. Okay. All right. What What are they looking for? I couldn't hear him. >> They're wanting to know how much products you've got. >> We got all kinds of stuff. >> We got all kinds of meat and frozen stuff, some cereal, some juice, some tea. We got fell off stuff. >> And you threw toilet paper at him, so I'll just charge it with robbery. >> You want to cooperate? >> I threw toilet paper at him. I had toilet paper under >> You tossed it, Adam? >> No. Toss it to her. >> My guess is to get away. >> No, I took the toilet paper down back down the road. >> All right. >> Down the aisle. Well, you're going to get charged with theft, too. You can't produce a receipt. >> Her story kept changing as she tried to explain the merchandise. Meanwhile, the officers found more items with brand new price tags still attached, leading them to suspect she had stolen from more than just one store. >> Hey, he got him some stuff. >> It's all that TJ Maxx stuff. >> That's all. Yeah. >> No, that's mine. >> It's all got fresh TJ Maxx tags on it. We're going to call it TJ Maxx stuff for now. >> Usually, when I give something to somebody, I usually don't give them stuff with the tags on it. >> BJ, he just came out. That's mine. That's oil from mine. >> He didn't come out with TJ Maxx bags when he bought all this stuff from TJ Maxx. >> Yeah, he had a bag, but he gave me mine and he left. That's mine. >> I got stuff at the home. That's all my stuff. >> And that's my stuff, too. >> Okay. Well, that stuff's not right now in your stuff. [snorts] >> That's either going back to the store or it's going in our property until you can prove ownership. >> Nice. All right, let's go. You don't have to see this car. >> We need to hold on to that up front. You have anything in here? >> Oh, no. Put that back in my bag. Just sit it back cuz I never get my stuff back. I never I never get my phone or my tablet back. Put it just put it in my bag and keep it all together. >> So, it's not staying on your phone. not staying on your ride. >> Up to that point, the woman remained tense, but was still somewhat cooperative. However, her frustration continued to escalate and before long, her behavior became completely uncontrollable. >> Get in the goddamn car. >> You now I see why you got thrown to the ground. >> Yeah. Well, throw me to the ground then. >> Get in the car. >> Get off of me. >> The suspect was charged with obstructing official business and misdemeanor theft. The theft charge was later dismissed, but she was found guilty of obstructing official business, sentenced to 5 years of probation, and ordered to pay $362 in court costs. Arguing, changing stories, and refusing to cooperate only make a police investigation more difficult. Even if an initial charge changes later, obstructing officers during their duties can still lead to serious legal consequences. >> You're not leaving because if he's pressing charges, you're going to go now. >> Okay. Okay. Thanks. Let me cancel my Don't put your hands on me. >> Then don't try to walk out. >> On the 15th of February 2025, officers were dispatched to a restaurant [music] after receiving a report of a woman who had no intention of paying for the services she had received. When they arrived, the suspect appeared agitated and explained why she had acted that way. Um, >> we'll talk to her, see what she wants to do. She said she's not going to pay, so see what she wants to do. And you're not going to pay. >> I ate. I'm trying to pay. He don't want to take what I'm trying to pay. I don't want the 12 wings that he they brought out. I only ate one because that made my stomach hurt. He don't want to take it all. >> That's not how ordering in a restaurant works. >> Okay. He can press charges. That's fine. >> You understand the concept. If you order something, you pay for it. >> They got it wrong. >> They made my stomach hurt. What? People is crazy out here. People is crazy. According to the report, she only wanted to pay for the portion of the meal she accepted and refused to pay the full bill, which was why the restaurant declined her partial payment. But was that really a right she had? Her sense of entitlement became even more obvious afterward. >> And you can press down my name and stuff, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Bye. No, you're not leaving because if he's pressing charges, you're going to go now. >> Okay. Okay. Take me. Take me. Please. Take me. >> Let me cancel my Uber. Don't put your hands on me again. >> Then don't try to walk out again. >> Record. >> Go ahead. I'm recording, too. >> Put your hands on me again. >> If you try to walk out again. >> Put your hands on me again. >> If you walk out again, Sorry. Crazy. I shouldn't have came and I [ __ ] I should take you. I don't get no I really don't. >> No. Stay right there. >> Okay. What's the I'm ready to go now. I'm ready to go. >> You don't get to dictate how this goes. >> I'm ready to go. The way you can dictate how this goes is to pay your bill for what you were. >> I'm not paying it. So go. >> Well, then you're going to stand right here. >> I'm ready to go. [music] >> At that point, the officer returned with the total bill for the services she had used along with the restaurant's account of her earlier behavior. It turned out she had never intended to make a partial payment despite what she claimed. >> All right. So, she was rent dropped to $77. >> Oh, no. >> Yeah. So they hold on. Stay right there. >> So yeah, right now they say you're not paying. >> Okay, that's fine. Let's put you guys behind your back. >> Yeah. You want to just get this for the off light right here real quick so I can get a light? Uh I just got to see just shine your light. >> His ass is one of his ass. made my stomach hurt. Like I said, I could be pregnant right now, [ __ ] >> Yeah. And he offered to drop that charge. >> I'm not paying that. I I paid I ate six wings and I ate 20. No, I'm not paying that. >> He and he took that off the bill and then you refused to pay. That's what my partner literally just >> $77. He did not take it all. >> You didn't even look at the bill. How you going to tell me? >> Oh, I know. >> Right here. >> If there had been a problem with the food from the first few bites, she could have complained to the restaurant. But according to the report, she ate almost the entire meal before complaining. Even after the restaurant offered to remove the wings from the bill, she still refused to pay, making it a theft of services case. Even at the police station, she showed no sign of embarrassment. You want me to take it? How you doing? She was charged with theft of labor or services or use of property. [music] Refusing to pay after receiving a service can quickly turn a customer complaint into a criminal case. If there's a genuine problem, resolve it through the proper process instead
