Wait for my >> On the 9th of September 2024, police were dispatched to a Home Depot after receiving a report of a woman detained there for suspected shoplifting. But when officers arrived, the situation quickly became tense as she began denying the allegations. >> I wasn't shopping today. I was trying to call my friend at number cuz I my phone's not working and I just said to them, "Two people are in here right now shopping, looking a major amount and I was waiting to get my card from the person. I was just standing right there waiting for them to bring the card to me. I swear my life said I'll pay for it. I can't [laughter] I can't cuz I can't afford to get arrested. I can't." Okay. That's why I'm [ __ ] paranoid right now because my boyfriend and I [laughter] can't afford this right now. >> You have a picture. >> I know. My phone's not working. >> No. >> $55.96. >> What? What? 500? What? >> Let me talk to him. >> Yo, please guys, >> just let me just breathe right now. I can't figure out what's going to figure out what's going on. selected to put on put it inside a tote. She went in that all the time though plumbing fitting and then walked out the door with the tote with these concealed inside of it. >> But people lock people put things in there all the time. I see people doing that all the time. Like I don't get it. I don't get it. Are you going to arrest me? >> Ma'am, just wait. >> Please don't wait. >> You said you had names of other shopping. >> Yes, I told them. I said they're in here right now. Did they pass us when they were walking in here? >> We'll get that information, too, so that that'll help. >> Despite denying any wrongdoing, she kept a suspicious grip on her bag, raising the question of what might be hidden inside. And as the officer asked her to separate the bag, she became increasingly panicked. >> I'm getting arrested then. >> No, listen. Just Just stand up for a second without me. >> Can you listen to me? [laughter] >> I'm sorry. >> All right, listen. Treasure Lex, put your phone down. You're not being arrested here. We got to figure out everything else going on, okay? But I need to put you in handcuffs. No. All right. Doesn't mean you're arrested. It's a procedure. We have to manage arrested. >> Just stand up. Listen to me. Ma'am, >> can you just listen to us? >> I'll stand here. I'll stay here. Please. Just don't. >> You're going to have to stand up regardless. >> I know. I'm not. Please. >> Ma'am, we're not wait. We'll do it. Please. >> Put your phone. Just put your phone down. All right. Now, I'm getting >> Not yet. [clears throat] We got to figure out where everything's going. We got to do our investigation, right? >> Let me talk to you, please. >> Yes. Yes. Do us a favor. [laughter] >> Before you arrest me, please. >> Okay. Go ahead. Say whatever. >> Listen. You're not being arrested. Okay. You being detained. There's a difference. Okay. I need to put you in handcuffs. Do you understand that? It's something I have to do, but doesn't mean you're going to come with us. All right? So, I just need you to stand up and put your hands behind you for me, please. Can you do that for me? >> Can I just say something? >> You listen. Let me do that and then you can tell me everything you want to tell me. Okay. I just say first before you please I just got in trouble with you guys not too long ago like couple nights ago cuz my >> listen don't worry about that. We're going to Listen, today is about today. So listen to me, right? >> I did a year for shoplifting. Oh [ __ ] >> Listen to me. What's your name? What's your name? >> Valerie. I can't right now. >> Listen. My name is Officer Sh, right? >> Listen. You were asking me if you're getting arrested or not. Yes, you are getting arrested. >> Please for shoplifting. That's what I'm saying. But I didn't leave the store. >> It doesn't matter. once you conceal items. >> Yo, I see people. Valerie, listen to me. Listen to me. We're past that. I am helping you, right? >> You said you have information about other shop [laughter] and they're here right now. >> Okay. So, you could give us that information and that will help you cuz we tell the judge that >> she showed no intention of providing the information the officer requested, which appeared to signal resistance. The officer then took action and the situation quickly descended into chaos. >> Come on, let's go. Let's go. Why? Why are you doing this to me? You are horrible. >> I was even [laughter] leaving. >> I was even leaving. >> Okay, let's go. >> We're going to get to come back and get another minute. Let's go. >> Why? You just said I'm Now I'm getting I'm not getting arrested yet. You said I'm detained. >> Come on. >> And I told you >> now you're saying I'm arrested. >> Yes, you are. >> What the [ __ ] Why are both of you Why am I arrested now? What's the difference? >> For shoplifting, >> but please going to go like Am I going to go to jail though? >> No. >> No, you're not going to go to school. >> How do you know? >> How do you know? Can I have my bag? That's my bag and my my phone and everything. What the >> I'm just saying. >> Are you going to walk normal? >> Yes, but please get yourself. >> We're going to grab yourself. Let's go. >> Are you going to walk? >> Come on. >> Hey, sir. Sir, >> can you grab the receipt and stuff and then just meet us in the front? >> Thank you. And then >> how do you know I'm not going to go to jail? Because >> well, it all depends when we get there and how you're acting right now. >> I'm going to ask. >> So, if you're cooperating with us and if you give us other information, I have so much information. >> Well, that's going to help me right now. >> Let's go. Let's give you information. >> Yes. And that bag in the box. >> Okay. >> Which bag? I've got >> That's hers. All of it. >> Yes. >> Yo, can I at least fix my shirt, please? >> Here, let me help you fix your shirt. >> No. >> Fear of going to jail completely took over her. She repeatedly begged to be let go, even admitting during the chaos that she had been arrested before. >> I wasn't even leaving. [ __ ] Out of here. Let's get up. I'm going to go to jail today. Sorry. >> Huh? >> What' you say? >> I'm probably going to jail now. >> Listen, you said you uh >> you dealt with us a couple days ago. >> Yes. >> And how long were you with us? >> How long? Like for like six, seven hours. >> You listen. You going to come in? You going to do the paperwork and you leave? You said that during the other night. >> Well, I wasn't here the other night. >> It went hours. [screaming] >> I went hours. I need to help you. I can't. That's why I became a CI and now you're doing it. You don't get it. I can't afford this right now. I just got arrested for all this the other night for this guy said we stole his car when we didn't. We had proof and my boyfriend went to jail for it. [gasps and laughter] I need help. I wasn't leaving. I I'm tired of going to jail. I just did a year and a half. And that's why I'm not doing stupid like this anymore. I saw a marion on a no injury. >> The more panicked she became, the more she tried to convince the officer that she never intended to steal. This time it seemed her circumstances became another excuse she turned to. [laughter] You leave me with hours. Please, mister. Please. I can't. You don't get it. I'm going through so much right now and now I have another I can't do this right now. I have money on my cash app like I could show you. I was going to pay for it in my car. [snorts] Mister, please [laughter] [panting] I need something to drink. Okay. >> Are you ready? >> Miss, are you guys going to put me in the cell? >> What's up? >> Are you going to put me in the cell? >> We might not even have to do that. >> Please don't put me in. [laughter] I'm going through so much [ __ ] You don't get it. >> [panting] >> Finally, Valerie was charged with shoplifting under NJSA 2C 20 to1B2 after allegedly attempting to steal $56.95 worth of merchandise. Denying what happened does not make the evidence disappear. When confronted with the consequences, excuses and panic can only make an already serious situation harder to resolve. Even more shocking, the woman had reportedly carried out this behavior dozens of times. >> Our case, we have about 21 incense for it's around $650. >> I forgot to pay for it. That's it. I didn't want to pay for it. >> On the 22nd of October 2024, officers were dispatched to Target's loss prevention office after receiving a report of a theft. A woman [snorts] was being detained there for allegedly shoplifting. But things became more serious when employees discovered this was not the first time she had done it. >> Just some stuff was stuck under her purse in her car. She has never made an attempt to scan the stuff. These are the items here. Three items, a book, shorts, and a water bottle. We do have a prior on her. This is our case. We have about 21 incidents for it's around $650. We can file on that separately, but that's just what we got her for today. That's it. Okay. on or yeah, she saved all the videos. She'll send that over to you or can I take a look at >> Do you still have your kids with you or are they >> Yeah, I forgot to pay for that. I was here. I was here. My little thing out of the car. I forgot to pay for that. 313 county child and parent has been reunited 390 will be section here first. >> So right now there's a book under this purse and there's a water bottle under that and the shorts are right here. This time the woman reportedly had young children with her, but she seemed unconcerned when the officer mentioned them. She [snorts] also appeared to show no remorse. >> My kids outside. >> Okay. Are they Do they have like the car or >> No, my daughter has my granddaughter. She don't she don't drive. >> Does your son drive? >> My son came in his own car. >> Okay. >> Those pants were right here. >> Okay. >> My daughter was putting stuff in the scanning the stuff. The book put up on under my purse. I forgot to pay for it. That's it. I didn't see it. >> Okay. >> I'm waiting to pay for it. >> Okay. Um, where are your kids now? >> They're outside. >> They're in the car with you or >> Oh, dang. I don't know. They outside. >> Okay. How old are your kids? >> My granddaughter is 3 years old. >> Okay. How about the the other kids that are with them? >> My daughter is 26. He don't drive. Okay. >> How about your your son? >> My son is outside. He came in his own car. >> Okay. How old is he? >> He's 21. >> Okay. Can you call um one of them and let them know? Um, we're we're probably we're gonna be taking you in. >> We're gonna we're gonna be, you know, bringing you down the headquarters. I'm giving you the chance to let them know so you can kind of figure stuff out with your kids. >> I forgot to pay for that. >> Well, I I'm I'm not going to sit here and argue with you. It's It's clear as day on video, so I'm not going to argue with it. So, I'm giving you the chance to talk to your kids to figure out so you can let them know and then we're going to be on our way. >> If this had been her first offense, the store might have simply issued a trespass notice and let her leave. But with repeated offenses, the consequences could be more serious under New Jersey statute section 2C20 to 111.3, which provides for extended imprisonment for repeat retail theft. The officer then placed her in handcuffs. >> All right, she stand up for me. Have that phone. >> Can I walk with you guys? >> Yeah, but I'm putting in handcuffs, though. >> You have to. >> Sorry. It's It's >> I don't want to leave you like this. >> I apologize. And And I'm sorry, but that is what it has to be this way. Let me just grab your phone and throw it in your purse. >> Oh my god. Just turn around for me. >> Thank you. What's that? >> Oh, don't stand there for me. >> You don't have anything on you, right? I don't want to I don't want to bet you down. All right. Just put me in here. Before taking [snorts] her to the station, the officer gathered her information and made arrangements for her vehicle. He also warned her to be truthful before asking the questions. Just lean back on. Sorry. >> Right there. Where we going? >> What's it? No, this is Middletown. So, we're in Middletown. >> All right. All right. Tigers. That's probably her right there. Somewhere in the handicap. I don't know. What car is it? >> I'm going to ask her. All right. Question for you. You're I know you said you have your license in your car, right? Where's your car? My son took my keys. >> Your son took the keys. >> Okay. Um, >> so you don't know who I am yet? >> No, I don't. >> Can we go this time? >> Okay. We're going to figure all out in a second, but I got to kind of identify who you are because if you're giving me fake names and everything else, it's going to be another charge and then that just increases the chances of you going up county jail. So, we can make this very easy and you can give me your actual name or you can get another charge and we can make this hard. So, I'm going to take my pen out. my p my pad and I'm going to get your name and as long as it's the right name. >> Lopez. >> Sandra Lopez. Is that your name? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Have you had any contact with any police in the area? >> Like have you had any police contact at all? At all like for anything? EMS calls, anything? Okay. >> It seemed the woman was cooperating, but her information turned out to be false despite the officer's earlier warning. Yet, she showed no shame in lying. >> He says he doesn't have the keys. Oh, >> I mean, you're prolonging this. I mean, you obviously know what the keys are. >> I think you're getting back. >> I'm trying to make this quick and you're trying to get >> All right. Well, >> you you lying to me is just making this go f uh longer. >> My no register over. >> No. Yeah. What do you think? >> Your keys aren't in here. Or at least I don't see them. >> Okay. No, they're not in there. >> Where are they? >> Let me see. >> I'm I'm not uncover Can you give him my purse? My daughter. Give you give my daughter a purse. Nothing is there. You can check them in my purse. >> This is your purse, though. >> Yeah. I'm saying, but where you want to keep my purse? Nothing is in there. >> You just said the keys are in here. I'm saying you don't want me to give my purse to my kids. >> I'm not giving you your the purse to your kids. What? >> Cuz this is your personal belongings. It's going with you to headquarters. >> It don't matter. >> I I don't It doesn't matter to me. It's coming with you. >> Oh my god. >> So again, where are your keys so then I can get your driver's license? >> Let me see by my my Can I Can you >> No, I'm not. Cuz you already been lying to me and all this other stuff and you're making this a lot harder than it need to be. All I'm trying to do is get your keys so I can get your license and we're going to leave. You're complaining that we haven't left yet and it's because you keep lying to me. Where are your keys? >> My keys are right there. >> Where is right there? >> Let me get my purse. Before I open my purse, I can check for my license. See if I have any. >> No, that's not my keys. >> Okay. So, where are your keys? >> Can I get >> I'm not uncuffing you. >> Can you call my daughter? >> No, I'm not giving anybody your >> All right. So, can you open my wallet? She was charged with shoplifting under New Jersey statute with the store reporting 21 prior documented incidents. Those cases could potentially affect the severity of the charges if they are separately established and meet New Jersey's aggregation [music] and repeat offender requirements. Repeated theft can turn a seemingly minor shoplifting case into a much more serious legal matter. And when the evidence is already documented, lying to officers only makes the situation harder. Next, this repeat shoplifter even kicked a peace officer. >> All three times that you shoplifted this one? >> You got all three times. Look it up. Look it up right now. Sir, >> I have >> I I I want a warrant. >> Oh, now you got a felony. Now you got a felony. >> On the 27th of February, 2026, deputies were dispatched to a Waw Wa after receiving [music] a report of a woman shoplifting. But this was already the third time she had done it there that morning. Here's what happened when the deputies arrived on scene. >> Stop. Backpack off. >> Chands behind your back. >> Food. >> Just causing a scene. >> Saying I'm going to punch people screaming in the middle of the store. >> I wasn't going to punch anybody. >> I don't care. >> I ain't saying nothing about punching anybody. You can you can look up the receipt. You can look at the video. We have the receipt and everything over some Walmart. Oh, waw wa. >> Yeah, absolutely. We have the receipt and everything. >> We have the receipt that I paid for >> all three times that you shoplifted this. >> You want all three times? Look it up. Look it up right now. >> Sir, I have a >> I I want a warrant. Look it up. >> You want a warrant? >> Yes. Look it up right now. >> She's >> I paid for all the that I bought right now. I bought a >> Here, sir. I have no fighting me. No. No. You [ __ ] Look at this. >> Bought a drink and bought a sandwich. What the is wrong with you? >> Stop fighting me. >> Oh my god. Look at this. >> Look at this [ __ ] >> I can't deal with you right now. >> Calm down. >> Okay. Okay. In a drink that I paid for this. >> As long as I paid for this. What is wrong with you, [ __ ] >> Calm down. In this shoplifting incident, the woman reportedly took a $2 sandwich. But what she did next made the situation far more serious aing drink and a sandwich. Y give me that [ __ ] Give me that. He's laughing this [ __ ] I Yo, what the Give me the [ __ ] Give me the >> Are you kidding me? >> Give me the You [ __ ] >> You car. >> Now you got a felony. Now you got a felony. >> Now I got a felony. >> Back up. >> I got to [screaming] back up. >> I'm sorry. >> Back away. You got to stay away from me. >> I just need to get away from you. the only person. >> I don't care. You're going to go to jail. Get away from me. >> Just go. Let them do what they got to do. >> Battery only. >> After successfully detaining the woman, a deputy returned to the store to gather more information from the loss prevention staff. >> Hi. >> Hey, so you have shoplifting? >> Yeah. >> Like 100%. >> Oh, 100%. >> Perfect. So, first she grabbed a bag and filled it full of crap. >> Okay. >> And which I wasn't 100% sure on. And then I saw her >> grab some beef jerky and stuff and stick it in the bag. >> She walked up here and pretended like she was going to bring up a bag of nuts. >> Okay. >> And then she goes, "Oh, it didn't give me a receipt." I said, "Well, you actually have to bring it through in order for it to give you a receipt." And I said, "You also need to pay for the beef jerky that I saw you stick in the bag." >> Mhm. >> She goes, "I paid [music] for that." I said, "No, you didn't." >> What bag? the orange backpack. >> No, she had a one of our Waw Wa shopping bags. >> Okay. >> Have a great day. >> And then she goes, "I paid for that." And he took it out of the bag cuz he knew that she didn't pay for it. >> So, he paid for that and the nuts. She came back in a little while later. Well, she grabbed the receipt and then she slammed it on the counter and she goes, "Look, I paid for it." >> I was like, "Okay, that's how we're going to be." She left. She came back a few minutes later, used the bathroom, blah blah. She came back in like four times. Then she came back in right before I called you guys, grabbed a mango juice and a wrap from the express case and walked out the door. >> I said, "You need to pay for that or I'm going to call the police." This is the third time. >> Mhm. >> And she kept going. >> So I I called you guys. I was like, "I'm done." >> Okay. >> She made it around the building. He started walking back in when I was on the phone with you guys. And he goes, "Are you calling the police on her?" I said, "None of your business." Mhm. >> He's like, "Can you not call the police on her? It's been a rough night." I said, "I don't give a >> Back with the suspect, she continued screaming and insisting she was innocent, showing no shame." But the longer the officers listened, the more the truth began to come out. >> Hey, >> keep kicking this door. I'm going to hog tie you. All right. >> So, you calm your ass down and relax. I don't care about shoplifting. >> All right. >> It's not going through your >> I don't care about the shoplift. >> That's nice. You have a felony. Congratulations. What the [ __ ] do I have to do? Look at my camera. >> Holy Christmas. Where did her boyfriend go? >> She's not kicking it. It's her hands. >> Is that what it's doing? >> Yeah, it's their hands and the handcuffs. This was specifically mentioned. This is our phone. All right, chill for a second. I'll be right back. >> Try to see if there's a way to converate with the officer, but >> over what? >> This is the mother and everything that's saying. >> Good morning. >> Good morning. >> I am so sorry. He has been having a rough an amazing family. We're all military people. >> I understand. Well, I I'm not entirely sure what popped off this morning. This was a a simple uh shoplifting that I probably could have issued a notice to appear for. Uh she flipped the lid. All she's been doing since is screaming and kicking. She kicked the corporal in the chest. Uh he's wanted looking to charge her with a felony battery on law enforcement. >> Okay. I promise you she's >> okay. But I got a bag full of stuff. So she stole out of Wawa as well. What do you want me to do with that? >> I'll pay it. I I don't mind. I'm just very >> As they reviewed the receipts, the employee pointed out even more stolen items. With so many incidents tied to her, it was becoming clear that she wasn't as innocent as she kept claiming. >> Okay. I Yeah, that's that's I was like, they don't just call for nothing until they know our >> procedure and what probably cause for you know. >> Yeah, he brought her back in when I called you guys to pay for the wrap and the mango juice. >> Okay. And that's all on video. >> Yeah. >> Perfect. >> Yeah, because and then she that's when she got aggressive and she's like, "See, I paid for it." >> And we have all that. >> Oh, yeah. >> Beautiful. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. I just got here. They're They're going in to check what is and what isn't stolen. >> And I We know everything. >> Those are the three items I know for a fact that she stole today. >> There's like a cold Arizona tea. There's watermelon. There's >> But those are the three items that I physically saw her take. >> They were in here a lot of times. Her specifically at least five or six times. >> The other stuff in the bag I I know she stole, but I didn't physically see her take it. >> Okay. >> Have a receipt. All that other receipt is from my other grocery store from last night. >> Where's the receipt? >> Oh, it's not in my bag. I will give you the receipt, but you go back home. >> You didn't give us the receipt, but you need to go back home. We'll do that and I will get her to the county jail. >> Okay. Here. I got this stuff and everything. >> So, the receipts that he has. >> Well, you you paid for the stuff. >> Yeah. You paid for this. You paid for it before she walked out of the store with it. >> When she had paid when she had went. >> So she took all the stuff. He went back in and paid afterwards. So she passed all points of sale. So >> you only had the receipt of three items, [ __ ] Because that's all I paid for and all I got from this gas station. You're not understanding. That's all I got. >> Look at the Look at the camera. I I am looking at >> Look at the camera. That's all I got. >> That's all you got? >> Look at the camera. >> I did. >> Look at it again, [ __ ] >> In the end, she was charged with retail theft, disorderly conduct, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer without violence. A small theft can quickly become a much bigger problem when you choose to resist and escalate the situation. Cooperating with officers may not erase the consequences, but fighting the arrest can add serious charges. Next, this woman even asked God to help her escape the consequences after 10 shoplifting incidents. >> It's been under ringing, which means not paying for everything at the registers, putting it in the bags. Carrot, you know, >> if it's bananas, >> bananas, watermelon, >> broccoli, broccoli crown. the other. >> On the 17th of August 2024, police received a report from Walmart about a shoplifting incident. There seemed to be nothing unusual as employees appeared to already know the woman. First, here's what happened that day. >> Um, this is Danielle. >> Okay. >> She lives in town. Um, it was brought to our attention a while ago [snorts] and she's been under ringing, which means not paying for everything at the registers, putting it in their bags, carry it, you know, and not paying for it. I reviewed a lot of video going back probably 30 days or more. She's got nine cases against her and I'm still doing the paperwork for it and she did it again tonight and we're in the process now figuring out. The reason why I called you guys so early is cuz she called her husband. I don't know the guy. I don't know if he's coming here. I don't know what's going on. So >> he he just asked if he could pick up the food that I paid. That's all. He's not coming here right this second. >> Okay. So basically we'll get to he process her regular and she'll have you know she'll have we want we want her to be arrested for this. Um, like I said, it's her ninth. This is her 10th time. >> Okay. And you don't have a total on anything yet? >> I have a total on her other stuff, not including the meats that she where she was taking. >> I'm talking about this incident right now. >> You don't have that ready. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Well, I guess I'll wait until you you can figure it. >> That's good. >> Faced with the employees allegations, the woman had little to say in response, seemingly acknowledging what had happened. She then went on to reveal her previous criminal record herself. I've been arrested one time for a job listing. >> Anything else? >> 188. >> Okay. You probably don't quote me on it, but there's a good chance you're not going to county tonight. >> Not >> I don't know. We have to run at your PSA. It's pretty much a score of what uh if you're going to if you're prone to commit more criminal acts or anything like that. So, if you shuffle it once, there's no reason to do it again. Well, obviously you've done it numerous times now. >> So, you're saying that I'm probably not going to go >> I'm saying you probably will. I don't know. >> Oh, I'm sorry. I missed it. I'm sorry. >> Yeah. >> You don't have any kids with you, right? >> No. >> Okay. >> They're bites. >> Your husband's with your kids. Do you have kids? >> Yeah. >> Your husband's with them? on there. I think on >> Is that Is that >> No, no. We're just making sure someone someone has uh >> Oh, yeah. No, they weren't with me. No. No. >> With her repeated shoplifting, the consequences could go beyond a fine and lead to up to 90 days in jail. But that's from the legal side. As for Walmart, she would face more than just a trespass notice at this store. >> All right, Danielle, can you sign this for a real quick trespass notice? You're going to sign right here. What is it? >> You're no longer allowed to come into Walmart >> anywhere, anywhere, whether it be here, Washington, state, anywhere. >> 5:46. >> Danielle, finish up what you're talking and you're done. >> Yes. Thank you. I don't know if you guys got that. >> You know what this stuff? >> Yeah. Yeah, I'll look at it. She pretty sure >> I see if it's bananas. >> Oh, bananas. Watermelon. >> Broccoli crown. Yeah, they're all they're on here. What's the receipt? I said that was this was >> from constantly using her phone to praying. She seemed to be trying every possible way to find someone to help her, from friends to God. But clearly, no one could take responsibility for her, especially as the employee pointed out signs that her theft was deliberate and planned and those items at the selfch checkout. >> It's the same thing every single time. >> Okay. >> Um, minus the fact, I mean, again, I can't prove it, but it irritates me. She would fill a bag up with meat and uh, she would never pay for the meat. meat was always in the back. Okay. I can't think I can't prove how much it was or anything like that. All right. >> That's a loss for us, but >> Gotcha. I said, "Well, we review a video. I was reviewing video with Jose." I said to him, I said, "You know, you notice she never buys meat. Never buys meat." So, I started to look and I would see her pick meat. Mhm. >> Then I started to notice the bag was really heavy when she was moving it around and I was like she concealed me. >> Gotcha. >> I apologize for >> I appreciate it. Daniel >> was uh did she conceal? Look, she never took it out of the bag. >> What the meat? >> No, the stuff tonight. >> Oh, no. She uh what she does is she um she goes to the register. She moves really fast. She'll put some unpainted stuff right here and she'll scan a box of Legos and she'll put it on top of there and then just move it all in. >> She'll move everything >> where she'll grab handfuls of stuff. It' be really hard to keep track and she'll scan like some of them and put them all over there. >> Okay. >> It's always the same thing. >> I'm uh I'm going to hook her if you just want to >> wait for the receipt at least. >> Daniel, stand up for me. I just turn around. Hands on your back. I'm just going to move here. >> If you're wondering what she was praying for, she was probably hoping to be arrested temporarily and then released because that was exactly what she hoped for when she was on her way to the station with the officer. >> Yep. >> Can you just um tell me cuz the the other time when I got shoplifting at shop, right, I I I want they had to take my fingerprints and pictures and stuff. I don't have to do that again, right? Because I already have it in there. No, every time you get arrested, unfortunately, you have to get That's what I'm thinking back. I'm fingerprinting >> fingerprint photograph and then I'm typing up your charge and then I should be on your way. It looks like a small amount and >> Oh, I thought that Oh, okay. I thought that the reason that you have to do that like is like one time. I thought like you didn't have to take a picture every time, but I didn't know. >> Yeah, it would be nice because people who obviously more read repeat offenders than you. Like we have to we sometimes we fingerprint photograph the same person 10 15 20 times. >> You would think that at least the fingerprints don't you? >> Yeah. >> But for whatever reason it's just how >> Yeah. >> how it is. >> Um you I know you can't guarantee. But do you think you do think so that I might be able to go home tonight? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Like I said for some weird wild crazy thing. I I don't want to be 100% sure. But >> of course I understand. I want to follow you. At least we can do a little better. >> Yep. >> Danielle was charged with shoplifting $51.7 worth of items under 2C [music] 2011 B1. After she was placed under arrest, Officer Hy transported her to the Lacy Township Police [music] Department for further processing. Repeated shoplifting can quickly turn a seemingly minor theft into much more serious consequences. No matter how many excuses or pleas are made afterward, [music] the responsibility still falls on the person who chose to commit the offense. Next, this man took his chances by stealing from the same store three times in a single day. >> Chris, >> put the bag down. Put the bag down. Put your hands Put your hands up on there behind your back. Under arrest. On the 20th of October 2024, police approached a man as he was attempting to flee through the back door of the store with multiple unpaid items hidden in his bag. Once caught, he quickly had no choice but to accept the arrest. Chris, >> put the bag down. Put the bag down. Put your hands Put your hands up on there. Put your hands behind your back. A little rest. You also have an open war on as well. Take this bag and move stuff out the way. You have anything on? Just going to pull through. No. No. Okay. What makes this suspect even more notable is that he had already come here twice that morning for similar offenses. It may explain why he had outstanding warrants when he could commit these offenses without any shame. The officers then proceeded with a search of his person. >> We have all the merchandise. >> 34 back in service. >> They just put out a warrant >> from the swarm. Stay left for a minute, please. >> So, do you want me to take it? >> Should be good. >> Search. >> Oh, yes. Second >> 200. Can you guys report that firework? anything that's going to pull you right there. >> He was then taken to the police station. From his expression to his demeanor, he remained unusually calm. As if he had simply accepted whatever was coming or believed he had done nothing serious. I can't hear you. You got to speak up. All right. Yes, Sergeant. >> I'm in the process. >> Take your sweatshirt off. >> Yes, sir. Okay. Earlier that morning around 8:30, the same suspect tried to steal nearly $300 worth of hygiene products, but fled after returning the bag when confronted. Security also linked him to a theft of over $500 the previous evening. Yet, despite the close call, he boldly returned to the same store just after 10 that night. The suspect was charged with shoplifting and taken into custody. Authorities also discovered two outstanding warrants and transported him to the county correctional center. Returning to the same store after multiple theft attempts [music] only gives law enforcement more evidence to work with. A close call is not a second chance to repeat the same mistake. Next, this woman shoplifted from Walmart three times in a single day. >> Stop. The video before that I did not do that. [music] I thought I was paying for all this. Are you serious? >> On December 24th, officers waited near Walmart's loss prevention office for a woman suspected of shoplifting. As soon as the theft alarm went off, they began approaching the woman who had triggered it. >> Come here. >> Well, I'm not doing nothing. >> Okay, then listen. >> Okay. No, no, no, no, no. I don't What the >> Just relax. Guys, this is ridiculous. You need to talk to me first. This is [ __ ] No. >> I cannot see nothing. And this is ridiculous. >> This is ridiculous. Please stop. I would really greatly consider. >> You're going to get your bag. >> No. No. No. >> You need to relax. >> No. No. Ma'am, >> this is Ma'am. And >> I do not consent. >> Okay. You don't have to consent. You don't have to consent to an arrest. >> I'm not guilty. Stop. I'm not being >> or no. Right now you're being detained. >> Why though? >> Investigation. Now you're being arrested for resisting. >> Wait. Wait. No. Really? No. Please don't. >> Now you're being arrested for resisting. >> What? No. Please don't. >> Yeah. >> The woman immediately resisted, turning this into what could have been the fastest arrest the officers had ever made. But even after she stopped resisting, the tension was far from over. >> You stop. I told you put it. Stop. I told you put your hands behind your back and you resisted. Now you got a charge for resistance. So now you're under arrest. Okay. Do you have anything in your pocket I should know about? >> Face the wall. Face the wall. Stop. Stop. >> Please. Please. Do this to me. Please. I didn't do anything. I put the basket back. Please stop. Please. Please stop. Don't take me to jail. Please don't take me to jail. >> Please. My birthday. >> Happy birthday. >> Please. You're hurting me. >> You're hurting me. >> Okay, I can let go if you relax. That's it. >> You guys stop and let me talk to you. >> You're not trying to talk to us. You're pulling away. >> But you're hurting me. Please. >> Okay. I'm not talking to you. >> You're not listening to a naked. >> Well, I know you. >> No, I didn't. >> Okay. Well, we were telling you you're going to take So, >> you can't me and I do not. Please >> stop. Relax. >> Please stop me. >> Her pleading and whining did not stop, but she also seemed to use it to her advantage as she later ignored the officer's questions and made it difficult to obtain her information. >> What's your first How do you spell your first name? >> I'm so sad. It scares me. So, >> how do you spell your first name? >> Oh my god. >> Okay, so you're not going to tell me your name? Please, please, is there anything I can do? >> So, I'm going to give you a chance to tell me your name. >> Okay, please. Is there anything I can do? >> Is there anything I can't do? Please, because I don't want to go to jail. Please. >> Please take me whatever you need to, but please do not take me to jail. Please. >> Are you talking about this receipt? >> I don't know which one's going to be. Well, she just had one just now. >> No, she just had the cash on her >> that she did a return with. >> What time were you here early this morning? >> I don't know. Early now. What time did you get here now? >> Probably like 10:00, 11. >> It's 11:15. >> What time are you here? >> No, earlier today. >> I know, but what time was she? >> 9:30. >> No, you haven't. Are you serious? You really can't that? >> Yes. >> No, I haven't. I put that with all my I put that on everything. On God everything. I've never been to jail. Are you serious right now? You think you're taking me to jail before? >> I've never gone to jail before. >> I'm going to search you. Okay. Stab me on you. >> Hang on. Just turn around. Stop. >> No one's hurting you. Stop being exaggerated. >> From the arrest to questioning and the body search, every step became unnecessarily complicated. But that wasn't all because she was reportedly known for stealing from this store before, making this incident far from ordinary. >> Right. Mind you want to talk to me? >> No. What? >> About the shoplifting last night? >> What? >> About a shot lifting that occurred last night between 11:00 and 11:10 p.m. >> You don't want to talk to me about it? >> What are you asking me right now? >> Do you want to talk to me about what happened last night between 11:00 and 11:10 p.m. when you were here? >> What are you asking me? >> Okay, so you do want to talk to me. I need a yes or no if I ask you. Okay. >> Whatever. >> Um, why did you take off with $400 and six? $46.3 cents worth of items yesterday without paying for it? >> Which part? The part you getting caught or the part you taking the stuff? >> Part of me taking stuff. >> Huh? >> I'm taking stuff, dude. >> About you taking stuff? >> Yes. >> Okay. But we have it on video camera. So, is there a reason why you walked out with all the stuff without paying for it? >> Oh my god. That's [ __ ] >> He's not very smart when you come and shoplift with the same bright blue hair. You know what I mean? >> Dude, oh my god. [laughter] >> Okay. Do you want give any statements about the shop looking last night? No, >> I didn't. Okay. It wasn't me. I >> You want to see the picture? >> Yes. That was not me. I It was not me who did that [ __ ] I promise you. I promise you. [laughter] >> I stupid pain. [crying] I listen. I mean, look at everything. Same shirt, same jacket last night. >> That was my friend. >> I was I was in Please. I didn't do it. Look at the video before that. I did not do that. I thought you came for all this. Are you serious? >> You guys need anything for me? >> So, right now, >> this is a I can't talk to you if you keep crying. >> We're We're adults here. I get that you're upset, but you got to listen to me, okay? >> You understand that? Just Just take a deep breath, relax. Crying's not going to help anything right now. Okay. >> The woman was also found carrying a significant amount of meth, making her trip to jail even more certain. At this point, [music] the officer explained the situation to a man believed to be her relative who was at the scene. >> Yes, ma'am. Cuz this is the third time of you coming here within not even 24 hours. >> Oh my god. >> You can't just keep shopping, especially shoplifting for $106 worth of stuff >> for what? >> And pretend there's no consequences. >> Wait, for what? Yesterday, last night 11:06, you shall promise. Okay, that's something that has be something you're going to argue with in court. Go ahead and take a seat for me. >> Okay, but this way I promise. [laughter] >> That's fine. That's perfectly fine, man. Go ahead and take a seat for me. >> Oh my god. Can you get me some water, please? It's so cold in here. >> Yeah, that's usually what happens with the weather in December. All right, sir. >> As of right now, we are she's going to go to jail because of the shot today. She shot about $68 resisted and then she has the two grams of meth. Okay. Uh >> if she wants to fight the charge for the shoplift thing from yesterday for the $46, >> she can do that in court. She's going to have to talk to judge, man. So, it's not up to us. We have no say in it. Uh once she talks to the judge, >> just because it's a holiday, she might not talk to the judge till Monday. Um so, I don't know. >> I don't know. They have one on call today to be honest with you. If they do have one on call today, they'll give her a bell and then they'll let her bounce. >> In the end, the woman was charged with shoplifting and criminal trespass. One act of theft can quickly become much more serious when resistance and additional offenses are involved. Cooperating with officers may not erase the consequences, but resisting can create even more legal trouble. >> The bag was less full when she came in and full when she came in. Full when she left. Then she'd be going out and then she looked at me and I said, "I can't handle." On the 7th of March 2026, police approached the woman as she left Kohl's after the store reported suspected theft involving her and others. During the conversation, she immediately explained that she was dealing with a problem with her gift card. But was this simply an excuse to deny the suspected theft? >> Ma'am, do you mind if I talk with you for a second? >> Yes, sir. >> How you doing? I'm Sergeant Reigns. I'm with the police department. Hello. >> The store inside was calling about some suspicious activity. Mentioned a lady with a large shoulder bag like yours was on the phone was about to walk out of the store and they thought you may have taken something. No, I just got on the phone because they just tried to do my card and they said that there's nothing on it, but there is something on the card. I just got on the fifth. So, he said I needed to call them. He just told me to call the people. >> Okay. So, it's a gift card. >> Yes. He just told me to call them. So, that's why I'm on the phone. >> I'm on the phone trying to talk to them now. >> Okay. All right. Do you mind if we maybe walk back inside and talk with them together? Try to figure out what's going on. >> There's nothing going on and I'm not going back inside because I didn't do anything. I was just at the counter. I was just at the counter and he just told me to call these people and I'm just walking out the door. So, how am I having suspicious activity when I just tried to purchase something? >> Well, that's what I'm trying to figure out. The store called us, right? I wasn't here, so I I don't know for sure, but they called and said that it appeared that you and some other people who were in a car that's over there by the Wendy's were working together to try to distract them and steal some stuff. >> I'm not I'm double by the Publix. I parked down there, so I don't >> That's fine. That's why I was just asking if you wouldn't mind walking with us just to talk with everyone together. >> Plenty or anything, but I did not do anything. And I don't feel like I'm being targeted for something that I didn't do. I'm in there trying to purchase a shirt and some shoes. >> Meanwhile, [snorts] an officer inside the store was getting a very different story from the employees. >> What did she take? Uh, she the bag. She was with a male who walked out with a bunch of stuff, too. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> The bag itself she took. >> No, no, no. She walked in with that. >> Okay. >> She walked in with that. >> So, did she take anything? >> I don't know. I I I told the operator there. I could not I can't verify she took anything. They were together, though. So, she's with a guy and the guy walked out with a full card. >> Do you know exactly what he took? >> I approximately like shoes. He got a bunch of different stuff. Put shoes in. I get video and pulled >> and they said I can't use my card. >> Okay. >> So, that's the only thing I'm trying to do. So, I don't feel like I did anything wrong. There's no reason to even have have to go through all this. >> Okay. Is there a receipt for the gift card or something else? >> Receipt is for the gift card because that's what I was trying to purchase the shoes with. >> Did he give you like a reason why it wasn't working? >> No, because he said he said once they do the thing he said um once it's on I have to call the 800 number. He said because it'll show it was showing that look at that. That's fine. I just got on the >> Yes. Can you hold on >> trying to return something? >> No sir. >> To the card or >> No, sir. That was that's what I got when I the return was done and I was trying to purchase something and he said that they was coming up zero balance. He said I have to call him. He said they'll hold the shoes for me and I can come back and I said okay. So I was going to go call and >> I'm confused you. So obviously you're trying to buy someone with the gift card. What's the receipt for for the other? >> That's what I got the gift card. >> Oh, okay. >> That's where the gift card purchased. That's where they where they gave me the store credit. >> It seemed the whole situation might simply be a misunderstanding over the woman's gift card. But another store employee soon revealed a much more serious detail. skinny African-American. I believe was a white shirt. Very thin white beard. >> A white beard. >> Yeah, like a thin white beard. >> Okay. And was there just two people or more? >> They just came in together. I don't There was I believe there was a third waiting in the car out there. So, there probably is two in the car cuz when I went when I went to get a cart earlier, I saw a guy waiting by the car which is on that side. So, that's I'm guessing that was >> the lady who's outside right now with the big shoulder bag. >> Is do we know for sure that she didn't in >> I I cannot confirm it, but she is one of our habitual ones that we have. I I so I don't know for sure. >> Do you know her name? >> I don't. >> Okay. >> I think the other she was in the other day if I remember correctly. >> She was saying something about trying to use a gift card tonight. >> She tried. >> Okay. What was she trying to buy? >> Um up here pair of shoes. >> Okay. But she didn't but we don't know that she walked out with anything or did anything. Right. >> No, but I the bag was less full when she came in and full when she came in. Full when she left. And sheep going out and then she looked at me and I said anti >> on the Yeah, the thing beeped on her foot. They were It looked as though it was another male out there and he looked like he had dreads. I don't know for sure that. >> Okay. >> Like longer dreads. >> When they next >> Okay. >> Take it. >> We can sort that out in a second. Let's we'll deal with her real quick cuz Yeah, it would have been nice if you mentioned that earlier like she beeped on the anti- theft thing and she walked out because that changed things a little bit. >> Police then confronted her with the allegations they had received. Now watch how she reacted when faced with those accusations. So, the issues kind of clarified a little bit. Again, he believes that you were working in concert with these people that are over there in that car, >> whether you were or not. Uh, also though, he mentioned as you walked out that the anti- theft device that's there in those little columns that the tech stuff with tags on it from the store went off as you walked out and your bag appears fuller now than it was when you first came in the store. >> My bag was full when I came in. >> Okay. Be that as it may, based on everything he's telling us here, it appears that you stole something today cuz there's no other reason that alarm would go off. >> No, I did not. And I walked in the thing, so I need your bag. So we can search >> my bag because that my bag this is this this is my personal stuff I came with >> Miss Denita based on everything we have here I got probable calls to search your bag if you don't have to search my bag >> then you're going to be arrested for resisting and then we'll search the bag after is that what you want to do >> when I walked in. Hold on. When I walked >> her voice grew faster and more anxious while she continued making a phone call that raised suspicions she might be contacting an accomplice. That was enough for police to make the decision to arrest her. last time. Arrest her. >> Don't arrest me, bro. Okay, here. Sir, please don't arrest me. Please arrest me. Please, sir, I'm going to give it to you. I told you, sir. I was trying to No, I was telling you to ask him about it. Don't arrest me. >> Don't arrest me. Please. >> It's too late, Pat. >> Please, sir. Please. Please don't arrest me. Please don't arrest me. >> Go that reverse. Yep. >> Please don't arrest me. Please don't arrest me. >> Please don't arrest me, sir. >> I got this hand. >> Please don't. I want to I want you to ask them what I came in with. I came in with stuff, sir. I came in with stuff. >> I came in with stuff, sir. Can you please not arrest me? >> I was going to give you I was going to Listen, I was going to give you the bag, but I was telling you to ask him. No, I was going to I was texting you to ask him if they came in. >> Ask him. >> No, sir. >> Listen, can you please stop? Can you please stop? Can I please stop? >> Okay, I'll do a car. I'll do anything. >> You're under arrest. Walk to the car before it gets worse. >> I'll do I'll do anything to get out. We're walking. >> I'll give you I'll do whatever. I'll do whatever. >> We can talk about all that in a second. Okay. >> There's a lot of stuff. >> I don't want to be arrested tonight. Please. >> Well, then you should have listened. >> I was listening. I wanted you to know that I I had something already when I came in. He was standing right there when I came in. It beat when I came in. >> There's no reason that your >> It when I came in. >> No, he said when you walked out, it beeped. And again, that only >> Sasso, can you unlock this? >> When I when I walked in and when I walked out. >> Okay. Have a seat in the car for me. >> Sir, please. >> Sir, please. We'll get all that in a second. Right. >> After her arrest, officers searched her bag and what they found provided evidence that was difficult to deny, forcing them to confront her with it. >> Well, everything in there, the way it's packaged, is still on hangers and in the bags and all that. >> I take my [ __ ] out. Every time I go shopping, I take my hand. I don't like bags. >> Okay. Well, why would you bring all that with you tonight? >> Because I was going to try to take and do a return also. >> Why didn't you do that while you were in there? >> Because I always do it when I get all my stuff. I do it at one time because they have the return there. >> Well, that's what I'm saying. And when you were up there trying to buy stuff and you had the issue with the gift card not working, why wouldn't you just go ahead and do the return at least and then worry about the gift card later? >> Because he told me to make sure I didn't get the call first and I was going to go ahead and call. >> Well, but you can handle the return. And if you have all that stuff and you save everything else, why wouldn't you also save the bags that you got when you bought the stuff at Kohl's? >> I listen, I don't get bags, but when I go in the store, I don't usually get bags. I don't. >> Okay. So, all that stuff in there that's brand new and and pristine. No dirt, no nothing, no lint from the bag. It's It's all stuff on the fifth and stuff like that. >> So, you just bought that all on the 5th? >> It was on the 5th. >> Did you buy it here? >> Yes. >> Okay. What'd you pay with? >> I paid cash. >> Gotcha. What time are you here? >> I don't. >> Before you answer, let me ask you this. Cuz obviously they have video footage. Every customer that's here all day long. So on the 5th >> when we check, is it really going to show you buying that stuff? >> Show me. Yeah. >> Is it going to show you at the register paying for all that stuff that's in your bag? >> Show me. >> Okay. Somehow I doubt that. And then you don't want to believe anything I'm saying. >> Why would you buy it all and then 2 days later come back to return it? >> Cuz it's the wrong size. >> Oh, okay. Who'd you buy it for? >> My cousin. >> Gotcha. And is there a reason your cousin just buy it for you or buy it for herself? >> Excuse me. >> Is there a reason your cousin didn't just come and buy it for herself? >> No, it was going to be a gift. It's a gift. Oh, >> okay. >> So, put your feet in there. >> Whose car were you guys in tonight? Jaylen's or Andre's? >> I I don't know who to >> What kind of car is it? In the end, the 45-year-old woman was charged with resisting arrest without violence and felony petty theft. She was later adjudicated guilty on both charges, serving 25 days in county jail, followed by 2 years of probation. Denying the evidence does not make it disappear. When the facts and evidence contradict the story, continuing to lie can only make the situation worse. >> Why? >> Because >> Because why? Give me a reason. >> We have to figure out what >> Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. >> On the 12th of July 2026, officers were dispatched to a store at a station after receiving a report of a woman suspected of shoplifting. But when they approached her, officers immediately noticed that she appeared to be hiding something. What >> is it? >> It's It's this right here. I'm paying for it when I'm when I need >> No, you concealed it. That's what you did. >> I'm holding in my hand. My hands are freezing. Feel them. >> I don't want Why are you doing all that? >> What do you mean doing all that? You're touching me first. >> Check it out. Here. >> Should I hold it like this? Here, I'll hold it like that. Okay. >> What else do you have? What else do you have? >> Nothing. I have my stuff on my back. I've changed my back pocket. >> Nothing in that arm? >> No. >> She denied stealing anything. But was she simply making excuses after being caught? She then suddenly insisted on going to the register to pay, seemingly trying to avoid the officers. >> You want to pay for that? I'm going right now to the register. >> Okay. >> Okay. I'm not I'm not >> Why are you acting so weird? >> Why are you harassing me? >> I'm not harassing you. I'm handling something. >> I Cuz I want to I've had a horrible week. I want to eat. Can you please let me go to the register and pay for my name? >> Okay. So, why have you been back here for so long? >> Because I'm on the phone. >> You don't know anymore yet? >> Why? >> Because why? I have breaks and I need to go pay for my stuff. >> You're not leaving right now. >> Why? >> Because >> Because why? Give me a reason. >> We have to figure out what the store wants to go. >> What? So then go find out. I'll wait right here. >> The store wants me to leave. I will leave. >> My supervisor's talking about >> Okay, perfect. >> How long How long you been here? >> Huh? >> How long have you been here >> in New Jersey? My >> No. Waw wa >> I don't know. >> You don't remember how long you been here? Like inside the store? I a little while. >> Okay. Doing what? >> I was in the bathroom washing my face. >> Okay. >> And take and um and then >> and what you can tell me what you were doing and I came out here and I was on the phone talking about you wash your face and listen to Did you take anything? >> I was standing at the sink any narcotics? Did you take anything? >> No. >> The officers kept the woman there to learn more about what had happened, but the longer they questioned her, the more agitated she became. She then began getting emotional, emphasizing that she was going through difficult circumstances. >> You've been here for how long? You don't remember how long? >> No, I don't know. I've been here for a little while. I've been waiting for an answer, my bill. >> Who are you trying to get to come pick you up? >> I'm walking. I'm trying to get somebody to send me money. They just sent me the money. I want to go buy my phone. >> Okay. Can you show me that what they sent you? >> 20 bucks. I'm not showing you. It's my phone. They sent me money. It's >> It was just a question. >> But But it Why do you need to see it? You know, you're asking for things that that I don't have any reason to give you. >> Okay. >> If I have the money, I could pay for it myself. If they allow me to pay for it, they'll be >> If not, then I will leave right now. >> Okay. Well, we'll wait to see what they want to do with you. >> Well, can we talk to them? >> My sergeant is talking to them. >> I This is ridiculous. >> Where is your supervisor? >> He's over there. >> Well, then let's go talk to him. You didn't want to talk to him. He was right here. You didn't want to talk to him. You didn't. >> So, we can talk to him now. >> Now you want to talk to him? >> Yes. I'm requesting to speak to a supervisor >> cuz we're on your time. >> Yeah. You work for me, don't you? >> Protect and serve. >> Okay. >> Okay. You think so? >> So, where's the supervisor? >> He's over there. You're not going over there. >> Okay. Are we going Am I leaving or am I am I able to buy my stuff? >> Nope. >> Once he comes back. >> Okay. So now I have to stand here even longer even though they don't want me to. >> Her attitude continued to change as her emotions escalated and she soon became increasingly uncooperative. Even refusing to provide the officers with her personal information on your right now. >> You need my name. >> We do. So they want you. >> There you go. >> What's your last name? >> It doesn't matter. You don't have a right to ask me for my information without any No. No. I gave you my name. I'm going home. I gave you my name. My name is Lauren. Goodbye. >> Don't Don't touch me. There's no reason for you to touch me. Is there a reason why I'm being detained? >> Yes, we're handling a shop now. They want you. So, we just need your name. >> Okay. So, my name is Lauren. What? >> Corner. Let's confirm that and you're on your way. >> Okay. Go ahead. >> All right. We're going to confirm it. You're on your way. >> Okay. Bye. >> Okay. Go ahead. How do you do that? >> Oh, okay. Go ahead. Lauren corner. >> H O R N E R. Yes. You [snorts] don't have ID on you? >> No, I do not. >> I'm trying to make it easier for you. I want you to go, too. But >> my wallet got stolen. I don't have it. >> Okay. I'm sorry for that. >> We're not here to bother you. >> It sure feels like it. [laughter] >> When we get called out here for you wrong, >> but you're [ __ ] stopping me from moving from one little spot. You're putting your hands on me without permission. You're asking me for my identification for noing reason. I know my race and I know that I can leave. You said I have to. >> Her emotions continued to shift and the officers realized it was becoming difficult to get any more information from her. At [snorts] that point, they took action, but they never expected her reaction to turn the situation into chaos. >> Please, no. No. What? What am I under arrest for? No. >> Come on. Stop. Stop. >> No. Please. I will lower my voice. Do not touch me. >> I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. Please don't touch me. No. No. No. No. No. Please. Somebody record this. I didn't do anything wrong. Oh my god. >> Please stop me. >> I can you can you tell me why I'm being arrested? >> I didn't take anything. I know. My god. Oh my god. They're arresting me. >> Please let me call my mother. >> No. I For what? I didn't do anything. Oh my god. They're telling me I steal. I told I steal the camera. Somebody do something, please. They're gonna beat me up here. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. This is ridiculous. [gasps] >> Please kill me. Somebody. I didn't do anything and they're telling me. >> All right. Come on. Get him. Let's go. I can't do anything. >> You're okay. >> And you arrested me for shoplifting when you proved that I didn't take anything. >> You had it in your sleep. >> I didn't take it. >> You don't need to take it. >> I was holding it in the store. How is that? >> The woman was then placed in the police vehicle while officers continued to find more merchandise in her bag, which they suspected was also stolen. She had >> initially it was just these two that we saw on the camera and then when I zoomed in she had one of these two. >> Okay. >> And then all these came out of her pocket. >> Okay. Okay. >> Yeah. We're going to >> I got these four. I got these. >> Yep. And then I'll take that. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. >> All right. Whatever. I'll talk to him later. >> Here. Just swing your key over. >> No. My father's a neighbor. He couldn't tell. He said before. >> It's our policy. >> Takes one person to ruin it. In the end, the woman was charged with resisting arrest, criminal trespassing, shoplifting, [music] and of course, possession of drug paraphernalia. This may have also explained her unstable behavior. Emotional reactions and excuses won't make a situation disappear. Cooperating with officers and being honest can help prevent a simple investigation from escalating further. >> You're going to go here. You're going to put your hands behind your back. Okay. >> Want to see them? >> You are done. I have a sickness and you are hired for no damn reason. >> On the 1st of June 2024, officers were dispatched to a makeup store after receiving a report of a woman concealing merchandise in her clothing. But that wasn't all. Her behavior also appeared highly unusual. Something the officers quickly noticed when they arrived at the scene. Just >> want her out. That's it. It's okay. >> All right, ma'am. You ready to go? >> Hey, look. Ma'am, make a right. Ma'am, >> you need your stuff. He said, >> "All right. Well, that stuff is going to be checked. If there's any proceeds, you're going to be arrested for shoplifting. You understand? >> Are you intending on purchasing anything? >> Does it look like it? >> I don't know. That's why I'm asking you. >> Do I need >> I don't know, but we will search it to make sure you have anything. Okay. You look like my stuff. >> Okay. >> Okay. Well, you're not going to leave just yet. Okay. Do you have any proceeds or anything on you? Because the establishment said that they witnessed you taking things and putting them in your pockets. Okay. >> Do do you understand what she's saying? What she's asking you? >> She's asking you, "Do you have any items?" >> All right. >> What else do you have? >> Were you going to pay for that or no? >> Get to the register yet? >> Okay. >> All right. What else? Do you have something in the bag as well or no? too close. >> No, that's fine. >> She seemed completely unfazed as she handed over the concealed items one by one. Then, as if nothing had happened, she even tried to walk away, forcing the officers to stop her. >> All right. So, [snorts] ma'am, is there anything else that >> Okay. Okay. For shopping, you're going to go here. You're going to put your hands behind your back. Okay. >> Let me see. Let me see them. Don't move around or you're going to be charged. We're not doing that. We're not doing what you have. I have a [snorts] sickness. >> Like, what the doing? >> Which items? Where is it? doing too much. >> I acting a little too rough. >> Come on. >> Bless you. >> Come over here. >> Come on. No. You don't know. Okay. First of all, I have powers. You know that [ __ ] right? This is this is doing too much. Come get your seriously. This stage thing my powers. >> As officers restrained the woman, they continued searching her clothing after noticing several hidden compartments. But that was clearly not what she wanted. And she only made the situation more tense. >> Like another pocket. >> Yeah. Like hidden pockets. Like it's like in the holes. >> That's all separate. Hold. >> Yeah. We're going to have to >> take this. What are you doing? Listen. >> Stop touching her face. If you touch me one more time, you're doing too much. You're doing who's doing too much. They are drinking. I'm not too much. Stop acting as stupid as >> for example like we feel stuff. >> So what is this? >> You guys are worse because you don't know how to Try to find a P for this right here. >> You drink your >> You can come and stop this. >> You're embarrassing yourself. She continued [snorts] to display clear signs of erratic behavior. And it didn't stop there. She kept acting as though her own supposed authority was above the law. >> You powers up. This is not how you do it. This is not how you do it. I don't know what you do, but I am powerful. You are done. I have sickness and you are hired for no damn prison. Embarrassing yourself. Yes, you are. Get no money. the time. I don't have the time. This is Drake talking dumb ass actors that I hired. I know who the is serious. So keep going keep your dumbest. >> I'll be there in a minute. >> You don't like me. Okay. All right. You are dumb. Why would you hire real cops? >> All right, you're a fake cop. >> No, I started off this night. This was so if you doing this [clears throat] >> just let them just let them drink. But you need to come here. Cut this off. >> You're wasting your time. >> The escort then began or what the officers described as an embarrassing performance. But for this suspect, embarrassment seemed to be the last thing on her mind. >> Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. >> Oh, I didn't even see that. All right, let's go. >> When are you going to apologize? Why are you doing all this? Great. >> You trying to embarrass me? >> Yes. Why? Like this is how you embarrass somebody? >> Um, yeah. I'll write up. Got you. Stay. You're all fire. >> Put the seat belt. >> Sit down. >> Clearly sitting down. >> Put your leg inside. >> How does the cop work? >> Don't turn for a second. >> Where's the station at? Look. Look over there. Where's the station at? Where's the station at? >> Put your leg inside. >> What's your badge number? >> Put your legs inside. Stop. >> At the station, officers searched her again, but she only made the process more difficult. >> You get down. [laughter] >> You have to cover her twice. >> Check your shoes. Take your shoes off or I'm going to take it off twice. Take your shoes off. I'm going to ask you one more time. Well, I'm going to do it for you. >> I can't [ __ ] be over [ __ ] Like, did you have fake? I can't deal. So embarrassing. Like serious. >> The woman was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and retail theft. Resisting and escalating the situation only makes a shoplifting case worse. Cooperating with officers can help prevent a minor incident from turning into additional charges. >> Damn. Like, y'all would not let me be brave. >> I have been up against bigger fish. I'm sure you see it. >> On the 24th of July, 2025, police received a report of a theft that had occurred at an Old Navy store. The suspects were reportedly two women who left with seven t-shirts without paying. Officers arrived at the store to confirm the information provided by the employee. >> How you doing? Got a call. I guess we got we got some video from something that happened last night. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. >> Let's go. What's going on? Some They stole some stuff last night. >> Yeah, I wasn't here. I'm just calling you. >> What do you know what time it happened? >> 7:56. >> 7:56. What time did they leave? >> She left at 8:20. >> 8:20. >> Mhm. >> And it was a female. >> Two females. >> Two females that came in. White, black, Hispanic. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then I know you're pulling up. Do you What's the value of everything that was taken? >> The value >> total before tax? >> 7475 without 69.86. >> 69.8. What? >> Perfect. All right. >> You say I made a video. >> I have to look it up. >> Sure. Yeah. And then if I'll give you like a link, I'll send your if you have an email. This way you going to send the video footage to. >> How was it for? >> That's okay. Okay. I mean, I'm sure she has other footage, but it's kind of hard to see, but no, probably. >> What seemed like a simple case turned out to take 2 months of searching before officers could identify the suspects. One of the two women eventually appeared, and she immediately became uncooperative. >> Hey, what's your name? >> Okay. Can you do me a favor? >> You got a warrant from >> Can you turn the car off for me? Turn the car off for me, please. >> No, I'm going to pull off came back. Stop the car. >> All right. Stop the car. >> Miami Springs. Like y'all would not let me be brave. >> Come on. What's up? >> You're under arrest. That's >> Please stop moving. I just need to >> just stop moving. Answer the phone for my mom. >> Stop talking for one second, please. Is that your mom? >> Yeah. >> You want to talk to her? Okay. Did you want her to pick your car up? >> My house is right there. >> Have her pick your car cuz we have to tow. We can't leave it here. >> Mom. Hello. I don't want to your phone. >> I don't know. They just I guess they was watching me or whatever the case may be. >> They not, you know, they're not going to tell me right now. >> I cannot win. Hang up my, you know, I live right there. >> Where do you live? >> Like, >> we can't Listen here, just so you know. >> You can't move it. It's in the street. I don't want to tow it. >> Right here. I live right there. >> It's fine. We don't We can't tow it. We don't I don't want to tow it. >> Okay. >> Have mom come. >> I'm going to She too far. I'm my you see this ultimate right here? My house right there. >> Her refusal to comply with the officer's requests was what led to her being handcuffed on a resisting charge, but she still didn't seem to realize it. Her attitude continued to escalate, forcing the officer to speak up. >> Mom, tell Frank, I'm trying to get my car out of the road. Like, >> you can't be making calls while you're under arrest. Are you out of your mind? >> Just answering the phone. >> It doesn't matter, >> bro. Like, listen, I' I've been too I've been really nice to you up to this point. Your attitude is dictating what you're going to get. Okay? I've been nothing but respectful. I've been trying to work with you. You can't be making phone calls. You can't be talking to people. I don't know who's on your phone. That's an officer safety issue. You're right. You're right. >> Okay. Just give me a minute. I promise you, we're going to work with you. Okay. >> I have charges for you. That's it. >> I will explain it to you. The detective who wrote the charges is going to talk to you. >> I don't know. >> Maybe you can get this taken care of, right? And get this slate knocked clean. We didn't want to do it at work and screw your work or your job. You're right. >> All right. >> You're right. >> Can I just cuz I'm pretty sure my mama I'm just trying to stand right here to see it. >> Your mom. >> What does she drive? >> She drives a Honda. But my house right there. You see that sign? >> Cuz I was thrown off. I'm like what the like and then I ain't want my neighbors and you know. >> All right. I can understand that. >> So sit down, cross your feet. Let me let me get you down so you don't fall. >> Listen, we got a female officer coming. We're going to get things taken care of and then we will ensure that your car gets to where it needs to go. We're not going to tow your car. It's not part of our process. Okay. >> Can you call my boyfriend? He I need >> When we get to that when we get to that point, we will get to that point. We will let you make a call. All I know is that the detective will explain everything to you. He's here. He's aware that we were looking for you today. We told him that again, we weren't going to go to your job. We were just going to >> did that. >> We were just going to wait for you to get home or at least on your way home. >> I'm still trying to >> We didn't want to do it at your job. We kept you away from the job. >> MD total MD number 1707. >> Where y'all see me at? On 23rd school. No, your tag. You got We knew you got a >> very Yeah. >> Yeah, >> that tag. I can see that tag a mile away. It looks like every other car, but that tag is going to be >> E. That's how it is. >> That's my supervisor. >> The officers tried to find a way to avoid towing the woman's car and wasting unnecessary resources. But with her arrogant attitude continuing, they changed their decision. >> Here's my promise to you. I'm not towing your car. I'm promising you I'm not towing it. We'll figure out your car. I'm not going to leave my key on my pouch. She got my bank card. >> I'm not going to leave your car right here. We're going to figure out how we're going to get your car to your house. I promise you that. Okay. >> Why my mama got to take the car? Call Bula. Bro, that's not reasonable. Like, come on. Y'all know my mama don't got to get the car, bro. What they got to do with me? But what they got to do with me? Like, y'all know my boyfriend can take my car. >> Do you want to have a seat? Can I talk to my boyfriend? I don't want to sit down. I got to pee. >> That's not my sense. >> You know, I'm being respectful. Babe, >> we're done. >> What? I did. >> Just have a seat. This my mom. This my mom. Let me see. Cuz she said she passing right away. She said y >> have her come down here. I'm not playing these games anymore. Otherwise, I will tow this car. >> What they got to do with me, bro? Like, I ain't >> already I already explained it to you. >> So, you going to tow my car? >> Yeah, we're going to >> just let you know we're not allowed >> to do that. The way the car is right now, it's it's >> you're obviously seeing, right? Like it's the same way. >> Yes. >> Okay. Same way we left it. I didn't I didn't key it. I didn't move it. Right. >> Yeah. Okay, we are liable if if we move the car, we get a flat tire, any of that crap, and you decide to sue us, >> we'll get you out of here. >> All right, thank you. >> All right. >> As for the other suspect, officers contacted her and gave her 45 days to turn herself in, but no meeting ever took place. So, the officers went looking for her. >> Hi. You're supposed to turn yourself in. You're under arrest. >> Here, I'm going to give you my handcuffs. You don't mind just transfer over to us and >> Hello. >> Hey, how you doing? >> It was me you were talking to on the phone. >> Okay. >> Lying. I I we tried to do this to you know I left it up to you and I told you I was going to come get you. >> No, let's actually let me identify that car. That's not stolen, is it? >> Yeah. No, my sto You got hit with that accident right over there. Go all the way around. >> Yeah, we we heard it going out on the radio. I was like, they're going to be in a minute. They can't even get through. >> Car's not stolazer on it from 2023. >> What happened to turn yourself in? Well, if you say it. >> Well, if you said it, we gave you the opportunity, right? >> You said you said you were going to do it. >> Y'all know good. >> All right. See, this is why we have problems, right? We try to we try to give you opport We tried to give you We tried to We tried to give you an opportunity, right? We tried to give you an opportunity. >> Give me no opportunity. All right. Good. Come on. >> We're done. You know what? Come out. Come up to the look up in that the thing and >> Okay. Yeah. Let me see. Hold up. Let me see. >> No. >> She didn't seem to show any remorse when the officers appeared. And even afterward, she showed no shame when admitting to another concerning traffic related violation. >> Yeah. Who can in my daughter car? It's in my daughter car. >> I just don't want you to leave your driver's license. It's I don't have driver license. >> Well, ID card. >> Are you saying it's in my daughter? >> Okay. >> As long as you know where it's at. >> Yeah, it's in her car. >> You don't actually have a driver's license? >> No, I was in the process of getting >> Why is it all for law enforcement or the police? >> It's my life. >> Okay. Cuz it's your life. You can't you can't break your job. Pick me up. Take me to jail. All that other you talk about like relevant like tag. >> Okay. Yeah, y'all got bigger fish than to fry, baby. I mean, >> how do you know we have How do you know what fish we have in front? >> Y'all can't even solve murder cases. >> Okay. >> Kids getting everybody else's fault. >> Everybody else's fault. >> This is what happens when you're nice to people. >> I have been up against bigger fish. I'm sure y'all see it. I'm sure you see it. I'm telling about this. >> Tried to be nice to you, man. You tried me for here's what's going to happen. Here's what's going to happen. You're going to get some tickets. >> There's consequences. Thank you. >> In the end, Dandra Thompson, 32, was arrested on one count of retail theft in connection with the Old Navy case. Her mother, Latonia Verdell, 51, was also taken into custody in connection with the same theft, although the transcript does not specify a separate charge against her. Being given an opportunity to turn yourself in does not make the consequences disappear. Ignoring that opportunity can only lead to further trouble when officers eventually catch up with you. >> Against uniform law, I hate that plane. >> Jesus [ __ ] only. >> On the 2nd of September 2023, officers [snorts] approached a woman who was kneeling beside her bike in a parking lot after she was reportedly involved in a theft at a nearby store. But as soon as she noticed the officer, she quickly walked away. >> Hey, police, stop. >> Stop. >> I'm fine. >> You're not free to go. >> I didn't do anything. >> Okay, you're not free to go. All right, so stop walking away from me. >> Oh my god, let go. >> Okay, >> why don't you set your stuff down and talk to me, please? >> No, because I'm going to buy something. Please stop. >> Put your stuff down. >> No. What did I do? >> Right now, you're being detained for investigation of theft. >> No. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back. >> I didn't mean to do anything. What did I do? >> Like I said, you're being detained for investigation of theft. Okay. >> Stop. >> No. Please. Please. >> Okay. Like I said, you're being detained, not arrested. Okay. >> No. You suck my time. >> You have any weapons on you? >> No, I don't. >> I don't want to go shoot. >> What's your warrant for? >> The woman was then escorted to the car and her emotions began to escalate, making it seem as though she was the victim here. >> [ __ ] my life. Don't be >> I'm not taking you anywhere. I'm just putting you in my car right now. What's your name? >> Taylor. >> Taylor what? >> Wyatt. >> Taylor what? >> Wyatt. Quiet. >> Okay, go ahead and step in here for me. >> Here, let me get this out of your hand real quick. Okay, you're not going anywhere just yet. Okay, [laughter] put your put your feet in the car and I'm going to go get your stuff so it doesn't walk away. Okay. >> No, I'm paying for it. Did you get paid for I told her I had a juice? >> All right, I'm going to advise you of your rights right now. Okay. >> You're under arrest [laughter] on your warrant. >> No. No. Oh no. I don't want to go. Stop. This is going to be okay. >> No. [screaming] I'm supposed to see my kid. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything used against you in a court of law. [screaming] >> I hate that. Please. >> Amid her panic, the woman was still able to plead for mercy, making it seem like she was completely familiar with this kind of behavior. >> Do you understand these rights I explained to you? [laughter] >> No, I don't want to go. Please, please, please. I hate that place so much. >> Something about your something I read that you not >> Please. >> I can't talk to you. Okay. >> So, I swear I said it was in there and she rang it up. I'll pay for it. Please. >> Turn around. >> Please. Please. No. No. No. No. Don't take me. Officer, please. I hate that you please. No. I was just getting it taken care of. >> It's non possible. So you can't get it taken care of. >> Yes, I can. [crying] >> No, my love. Why? Please. >> The officer then checked the woman's information in the system and got an unexpected result, making the situation even more serious. >> Why don't you care? Do I look like I'm a bad person? >> I never said you were a bad person. I never called you crazy. All I said was that you were detained for investigation of theft. And then you have a warrant. Okay. After I arrested you on your warrant, I searched your purse. I found what looks like to be drugs in there. So, you're being booked on theft. You're being booked on controlled substance possession, and you're being booked on your warrants. Okay? That's the way it goes. The jail accepted you on your warrant? >> No, they always do. >> Cuz it's a DV warrant and it's not possible. >> No, I don't want to leave. >> But it didn't stop there. At the police station, she was searched again and officers discovered a little secret hidden on her. >> Earlier today, you [ __ ] I hate this [ __ ] blank. I've only been on one cuz I said I would pay for it. I I see it was missed on the [ __ ] receipt. I was literally doing that and I was like, she didn't pay for it. >> Okay, I'm going to take this handcuff pill. [laughter] Yeah. >> What was your name? >> Taylor Wy. >> Can you see my name today? >> W Y A Tress. >> No. >> Let me get your jewelry on. >> You need help? Can I help you? I just can't do this, dude. [ __ ] hell last time. >> Finally, the woman was charged with misdemeanor theft and possession of a controlled substance [music] along with being taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. Panic and excuses won't make the consequences disappear. Once officers uncover more violations, a simple theft investigation can quickly become much more serious.
